The baby Lambo comes of age

Although critics initially derided the Gallardo as a copout for the Italian automaker, offering two fewer cylinders and a smaller on-road presence than the rest of the lineup, the “baby Lambo” quickly silenced the naysayers by selling well over 7,000 units in its first five years of production. Its performance was so impressive, the higher-ups from Sant’Agata Bolognese decided to usher in a new go-faster version for 2008, upgrading the Gallardo with fresh aesthetics and improved performance. The result was dubbed the LP560-4, and once again, customers flocked to dealers, catapulting the nameplate to the top of Lambo’s list of all-time bestsellers.

Yes, Lamborghinis can autocross

Lamborghini never built a car with autocross or rally racing in mind. Other types of racing, like GT3, for example, are covered by Sant’Agata Bolognese via its Squadra Corse arm, which races the Huracan GT3 Evo on various tracks around the world. Autocross, however, wasn’t and isn’t on Lamborghini’s list.

The topless Gallardo we all wanted but never got

Lamborghini is known for making some of the world’s most dramatic supercars and this sure is one of the most dramatic modern Lambos, not least because it lacks the usual amenities such as a full-width windscreen or side windows. Built as a styling design that harkens back to the old-time-y speedsters, the Gallardo Concept S previewed a limited-edition model that never materialized. However, one running and driving example powered by the 5.0-liter, naturally aspirated 512-horsepower V-10 of the standard Gallardo does exist and you’re looking at it now. If you’ve missed out on the Concept S the first two times RM/Sotheby’s tried to sell it, it’ll be up for grabs once again in Abu Dhabi.

The 10 Best Lamborghinis Ever Built

The 10 Best Lamborghinis Ever Built

Italy’s most iconic Bulls!

One of the most iconic sports car manufacturers, Lamborghini was born out of Ferruccio Lamborghini’s frustration over a bad experience with a Ferrari he bought and the way Enzo treated him. Having built tractors since 1948, Ferruccio decided he could do a better sports car and launched Automobili Lamborghini in 1963. But while Ferrari has produced over 50 nameplates to date, Lambo remained a lower profile carmaker. Sant’Agata has only produced 21 models up until 2018, including some limited-edition nameplates based on existing supercars.

Some became iconic from day one, while some gained notoriety as they became classics, A few of them remain somewhat anonymous due to the period they were launched or their subpar performance. Still, there are plenty of cars to choose from to round up a Top 10 list, and we did just that. It includes both modern and classic models, but I went for specific versions instead of nameplates, as these usually spanned over many years and included many different iterations. Check out my list below and let me know if I should’ve included other models too in the comments box.

It looks like a design that comes from someone who knows a thing or two about designing cars

The Salaff C2 turned a lot of heads at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, and for good reason as the model is the work of none other than Carlos Salaff, the American auto designer who’s responsible for designing the Mazda3, Mazda MX-5, and the Mazda Nagare and Mazda Furai concept vehicles. Years of working for a number of established automakers led Salaff to create his own supercar company. The first product to roll out of this new niche firm is the Salaff C2.

There’s no turning back after getting in the seat of this rocket

For the confused few who actually think that Lamborghinis are slow, Underground Racing has become the go-to place to get the supercar’s power figures up to “appreciable” levels. The North Carolina-based tuner is known for turning Lambos into certified eaters of worlds, and it just so happens that one of them is up for sale now.

Adventure Drives Showcases The Best Roads In The West: Video

The winter holidays have come and gone, and before you know it, the roads will look a whole lot more inviting. Now is the time to start planning that epic road trip that’s been swimming around in the back of your brain, and if you’re looking for inspiration, just hit play. Chronicling a six-day journey across the western U.S., this ten-and-a-half minute video features a nice mix of sports cars enjoying incredible scenery via winding ribbons of tarmac. This is driving nirvana.

Adventure Drives was responsible for organizing the event, offering participants a departure from the craziness of rallies like the Gumball and Bullrun. Instead, AD focuses on actually enjoying the journey, without the bravado of who got the biggest speeding ticket.

The video starts in Denver and ends in Napa Valley, bouncing between Telluride, Park City, Zion National Park, Las Vegas, Death Valley, and Mammoth Lakes along the way. The caravan is made up of the usual suspects, such as exotics from Lamborghini, Ferrari, and Porsche, but the roster also includes more accessible machines, like a Subaru BRZ, Audi A5 Cabriolet, and a first-gen Acura NSX.

There are plenty of videos out there showcasing the world’s great driving roads, but watching this, you realize you don’t need a passport to enjoy them. So – what are you doing this summer?

Underground Racing Gallardo Sets New 1/2 Mile World Record: Video

Underground Racing Gallardo Sets New 1/2 Mile World Record: Video

There are a lot of tuners out there, even when it comes to tuners that specialize in cars that are already insanely fast and expensive from the factory. But the list of tuners that can turn out 1,750-horsepower cars and then get customers to buy them is not a very long one. So it’s very possible that you’ve heard of Underground Racing before, as it is one of the few tuners that can turn street-legal machines into vehicles that can seriously gun for world records. That is exactly what they’re going for here, a world half-mile record.

We can’t say for certain if there are any caveats to that record, but the car does hit 234.8mph in the half-mile, and that is definitely mighty quick whether there are caveats or not. And in addition to that, UGR brought along a tuned GT-R that broke the half-mile record for GT-Rs at 227mph, not too far behind the overall record set by the Gallardo. Underground Racing has held the half-mile record for Gallardos since 2009.

Underground Racing TT Gallardo Is Incredibly Fast: Video

The Lamborghini Gallardo’s V-10 has proven to be an incredibly robust, nearly indestructible engine capable of handle enormous amounts of boost. Underground Racing of Charlotte, North Carolina has been pushing the outer limits of the Lambo V-10’s performance envelope for a few years now, building street-legal Gallardos with over 1,500 horsepower. But, the one in this video, owned by a man named Moe, has Underground’s Stage 2 Race twin-turbo tune that puts down a ridiculous 1,750 horsepower… at the wheels!

Moe recently took his ride to the WannaGoFast half-mile event in Virginia, where he placed first, clocking a top speed of 217 mph, and then drove it back on public roads to the hotel he was staying at. Turn your speakers up for this one. It’s pretty amazing to hear the V-10’s revs swell and then spike as the massive turbos spool up.

Ferrari 458 Spider and Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera Destroyed In Illegal Drag Racing

Ferrari 458 Spider and Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera Destroyed In Illegal Drag Racing

Illegal supercar street racing is a relatively recent phenomenon in China, yet there are already a few known hotspots for the activity. One of these is the Datun Lu tunnel, near Bird’s Nest stadium in Beijing. This was the sight of what looks to have been a pretty violent crash involving a Ferrari 458 Spider and a Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera, although thankfully no one was seriously injured.

The tunnel is apparently used frequently for this sort of thing because it’s virtually deserted late at night, is well lit and is new enough that the pavement is nice and smooth. The participants were members of the local Sport Car Club (SCC), and friends of the two drivers were on the scene immediately to offer help. The whole thing started when the Ferrari hit the wall on its way into the tunnel and spun out. The Lamborghini was right behind and when it swerved to avoid the Ferrari, it hit the barrier instead. Police are working out who owns the cars, who was in them and whether or not they were actually speeding at the time, or if it just looks that way from the wreckage.

Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 Police Car Does Donuts: Video

Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 Police Car Does Donuts: Video

It’s not everyday that you see a Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 do a bunch of smokey donuts, but this is even more unusual, for a couple of reasons. This is no ordinary Gallardo but an Italian State Police, car, with "Polizia" livery, a number plate recognition system and a lightbar on the roof. And the guy thrashing this Lambo is an actual Italian policeman, not a racing driver. The short donut session didn’t take place in traffic but on a wide stretch of asphalt near a circuit, where the Gallardo’s livery, lightbar and police siren probably scared the bejezus out of regular track participants.

Over the years, Lamborghini has donated a number of Gallardos to the Italian police, but its most recent donation consisted of that model’s replacement, the Huracan LP610-4. Don’t be quick to judge though, as Lamborghini cop cars are not just for show, but are also used for real police work, and then some. For example, the car is fitted with a defribillator, and the trunk compartment is equipped with a refrigeration system for the transportation of donor organs, for when the defibrillator doesn’t do the job.

It is said that only 30 police officers are permitted to drive the Gallardo Polizia models, and it seems that at least one of them is a fan of hooning the Lambo as hard as its carmaker intended. As long as he keeps it on the track and not on public roads, there shouldn’t be any problem with that. Until his boss sees the tire requisition form, that is.

Video: Why You Should Never Prank A Lamborghini Owner [NSFW]

Pranks can be a fun activity to pull on your friends or family who enjoy a good joke, but as these Czech pranksters figure out, it’s not smart to mess with another man’s car. Especially when it involves a Lamborghini Gallardo and poop.

According to the devious duo, the Lambo driver cut them off in traffic and waved a rather unfriendly gesture their way. The duo then decide it would be great fun to put fake poop on the Lambo’s hood while pretending like it’s of the freshest variety — toilet paper and all. Of course, the owner of the $180,000-plus Italian supercar didn’t find the same humor.

What he did find was his taser.

The acting member of the troublesome team then meets the ground with a thud after the taser’s two barbed projectiles skew and zap his back and leg.

While we’re all about finding fun and having a good time here at TopSpeed, the only thing these two dudes found was a cold serving of justice. Better luck next time, boys.

Video: 1,800-HP Lamborghini Gallardo Hits 224 MPH in 1/2 Mile

Video: 1,800-HP Lamborghini Gallardo Hits 224 MPH in 1/2 Mile

I have driven some very fast machinery in my life, including more than one Lamborghini Gallardo, but I have never experienced the kind of speed you are about to witness.

The U.S. 1/2 Mile is a half-mile drag race that happens yearly in Houston, Texas at Ellington Airfield. It is a hotly contested competition to set the highest top speed over the half-mile distance. Coming in to this year’s event, Underground Racing held the record at 217.1 mph, but there were lots of new cars looking to dethrone the tuning company.

As you can see in this video, that didn’t happen. In fact, using an Underground Racing-tuned, twin-turbocharged Lamborghini Gallardo Superlegerra with 1,800 horsepower, a brand new race record was set at 224.4 mph. When this Lamborghini crossed the quarter-mile mark, it was already going 177 mph. The car was going so fast, and there were so many vibrations, that is started to affect the cameras and caused some major distortion.

It was a good thing that the team brought such a powerful car, as the previous record was smashed by all three of the top finishers.

Considering that amount of speed that was gained from last year’s race to this year’s competition, I can’t wait to see what kind of insane machines show up for 2015. Now stop reading, hit play, and watch this Lambo blast down the runway.

Video: Chevrolet Corvette Stingray tested Against Exotics

Video: Chevrolet Corvette Stingray tested Against Exotics

The hype surrounding the Corvette Stingray is still going strong since its debut over a year ago. Gear heads and casual watchers just can’t seem to get enough of the Chevrolet’s sultry looks. Well, the folks at 1320 Videos thought it would be a great idea to pit the new C7 against some of the stiffest competition from around the world.

The 2014 Stingray and all the other cars in this video belong to Xtreme Xperience, a company that specializes in exotic driving experiences where regular people can pay reasonable sums of money to spend some time behind the wheels of such cars as the Nissan GT-R, Ferrari 458 Italia, and Lamborghini Gallardo. (You may remember our own Christian Moe attended a similar driving experience. with another company)

The informal tests take place on the straights of a racetrack. The rolling-start drag race pits the C7 against the fierce rivals for all-out speed. Starting at roughly 40 mph, the C7 and its challengers go full throttle until they run out of track.

Now before you watch the video, take a close look at the Vette. It sports the base, 18-inch, five-spoke wheels. That indicates it does not have the optional Z51 Performance Package. Missing are the five extra horses and pound-feet of torque generated by the performance exhaust system, the eLSD rear end, heavy-duty cooling system, and Magnetic Ride Control — among other things — that could potentially affect the Vette’s straight-line performance. Then again, and extra five horses or pound-feet wouldn’t likely help the Vette’s case when pitted against such things as the Ferrari 458 Italia. But we’d like to see this test done again with the C7 Z06...

The Corvette does emerge victorious in at least one race and had a few close calls, but you’ll have to watch the video to find out the results.

Hotel Valet Destroys A Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder

Hotel Valet Destroys A Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder

It turns out a Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder makes a pretty good bulldozer, as this closed-circuit video shows. A valet for the five-star Le Meridien hotel in Delhi, India allegedly lost control of the supercar as he waited for traffic to clear. It’s reported that damages exceed $335,000, including the Gallardo, the hotel, and the second car involved in the incident.

The video shows in good detail how the V-10-powered car gained momentum as it pushed a sedan out of its way before being stopped by a thick concrete wall. Thankfully, no one was injured other than the valet, who had reportedly worked for the hotel for 10 years. In fact, it’s likely the valet had driven the Lambo before, as its owner says the hotel staff had parked his car many times before without issue.

Unfortunately for the owner, the hotel is refusing to pay for the damages. Taking things into his own hands, the owner, who is said to be a businessman from Mumbai, filed a police report against the hotel and valet. What’s worse, high import taxes spike the Gallardo Spyder’s retail price far beyond what others around the world pay for the same car, hence the extravagant estimated cost of damages.

There is still no official word on what caused the valet to lose control of the Lamborghini, but perhaps he inadvertently dumped the clutch, got thrown back in the seat, and hit the gas. Either way, it’s a good possibility he’ll be looking for another job.

Spending a Day With Gotham Dream Cars

Spending a Day With Gotham Dream Cars

Thanks to my job, I have had the rare opportunity to drive several high-powered and expensive cars. From Porsche to Lamborghini with a few GT-Rs in between, I have spent a lot of time going fast. When I heard Gotham Dream Cars was coming to town, I didn’t really think too much about it. A few quick laps in a Lamborghini around an autocross course seemed to pale in comparison to some of the things I had done. Then I started to hear some of the other car fiends in the area talking about how exciting this seemed.

Even people I know of who aren’t that excited about cars were interested in this chance to experience the power and speed of a supercar. It makes sense though. Supercars are the most useless creation in the world of the automobile, but they still draw certain emotions from us.

It doesn’t matter how much you like cars or not, when a supercar rolls by, you likely pay attention. Maybe it’s the speed, the looks or the noise, but the majority of the world is simply drawn to them.

I decided that I would test this theory and I decided to head to the event. Aside from just experiencing what Gotham has to offer, I brought my wife. Thanks to me she knows about cars, but aside from the fact that she thinks Porsche 911s are pretty, she has little to no interest in anything to do with supercars.

Would she still enjoy this experience? Would she revel in the noise and the horsepower that all petrol heads crave? What about the other guests of the event? Are they gasoline-drinking speed junkies or just regular people drawn in by the allure of Italian horsepower?

Gotham Dream Cars is Making Supercar Driving Cheap and Easy

Gotham Dream Cars is Making Supercar Driving Cheap and Easy

As an auto writer, I do get the chance to sit in some cool cars like the Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder I drove in Gumball or the Nissan GT-R I reviewed, but what if you aren’t a writer and you still want to experience the thrust of a Ferrari? There are a few companies out there that do special track days and even daily rentals of exotic cars, but those experiences are usually thousands of dollars and you usually need to travel to a really big city or race track. What if you are one of the millions who just can’t tick all those boxes to try a car? I have a solution.

Gotham Dream Cars has a new program called Dream Car Sprint that may help you out. It’s a traveling program that visits nearly 50 cities around the country, and they set up a full autocross course for you to play on. The best part is the cost; $250. I have yet to find a cheaper way to bury your foot in the throttle of cars like the Ferrari F430.

They have other more traditional programs with varying costs, but this traveling circus of horsepower sounds the coolest. They are coming to a local spot near me soon, and I am going to give it a shot. Keep your eyes here to see what I think about that.

We are start the show off with Mark and Justin talking about what they have been driving over the last week. That means the Civic Si and the expensive Range Rover Autobigraphy. For news we discuss the continued recovery of Michael Schumacher, Nissan’s new GT-R based concept car and the possibility of an RX-8 replacement from Mazda. We also fit some Aston Martin news in as well.

We even take the chance to talk a bit about what will be happening at Goodwood.

After the news, we have a few questions to answer from you guys about company collaborations and special edition custom cars like Ferrari’s many SP models.

We wrap up the show with Own, Drive, Burn for a trio of far out supercar concepts.

2010 Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 Spyder - Driven

2010 Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 Spyder - Driven

It’s like every petrol head’s dream come true. The call came through and all I heard were the words “Lamborghini” and “drive.” My mouth gushed forward a "yes" before my brain could even process what was happening. I was going to be handed the keys to a Lamborghini Gallardo, the best-selling and most popular car in the brands 50+ year history. The exact model in question was an LP560-4 Spyder. With a 5.2-liter V-10 engine making more than 550 horsepower, and a curb weight almost 500 pounds less than a Nissan GT-R, it should be exciting.

Of course, there is always a pang of fear when it comes to situations like this. Lots of cars have massive followings and are supposed to be exquisite to drive, but I have found on more than one occasion that sometimes it is best to never meet your heroes.

As the entry for AnastasiaDate into the 2014 Gumball 3000 Rally, I wasn’t promised a lot of time with the car, but it was enough for me to make a decision about the car.

Was this a mistake, or did this tiny supercar drive its way into my heart?

Gumball 3000 Day 3 - "A lot of time, A Lot of Excitement"

Gumball 3000 Day 3 - "A lot of time, A Lot of Excitement"

The third day of the rally was going to be the worst. We had nearly 900 miles to travel, and our slow-moving follow car meant that most of the other cars would leave us lagging hours behind, limiting the exciting supercar scenery we would see. What actually happened though was that this final day became my favorite.

By the time the day was over I had new sunglasses, saw a Ferrari get crunched by a van, got stuck in an elevator, met some awesome famous people, met awesome people who weren’t so famous, and made some great new friends. I also spent some more time in the Lamborghini Gallardo and learned to play a Russian card game.

The day I was dreading the most turned out to be one of the most exciting. It just goes to show that anything is possible, especially when you are dealing with the insanity and excess that is the Gumball 3000.

Gumball 3000 - Meet the Lady Drivers of Team AnastasiaDate

When I got the call to do the Gumball 3000, I had no idea what car I would be driving, what team I would be on, or even who the co-driver(s) could be. It was such a crazy opportunity, I couldn’t say no.

It turned out, that I had been attached to one of the major title sponsors AnastasiaDate, I would be in a Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder, and that my co-drivers would be a pair of Russian models from the site named Alisa and Margarita.

A wise man once told me, "you could make this job up, but nobody would believe you."

To get a better idea of who I was going to spending a large portion of my time with, I was given a full bio for each girl. If you are interested in learning more about these two attractive women I spent a few days getting to know, I have collected some of their best answers to the survey as well as a whole collection of photos of the two of them below.

Gumball 3000 Day Two - "Let the Drive Commence"

It was only my second day of the Gumball 3000 festivities, but this was the first official day of the Rally. There is an entire collection of famous faces, blistering-fast cars and hundreds of miles for us to traverse.

As the morning started, we lined our car up on the starting grid with hundreds of other machines to get ready for the start of the Rally. Xzibit has been a large presence in the Gumball 3000 for many years now. He did not drivie in this year’s event, so he was asked to see every car off the line by waving the official Gumball flag to start the rally.

Other famous faces at the start line included Richard Rawlings from Gas Monkey Garage, and of course Deadmau5 is here in his “Purrari” 458 Spyder with Tori Belleci of the MythBusters as his co-driver.

When the Team AnastasiaDate Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder set off the line we all piled into our Mercedes Sprinter chase vehicle and our journey had begun. Time to head to Atlanta.

We Are In The Gumball 3000 Rally!

If you watched the live podcast this morning, you are well aware that I am heading to Miami to take part in this year’s Gumball 3000. As you read this I am likely in the air on my way to the sandy beaches and hot cars of Southern Florida.

While there are more than one hundred cars on this year’s grid, the one I will be spending my time with is a Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder. The car and team are owned by an online dating company called Anastasia Date, and two lovely ladies from the company are going to be the main pilots of the car on its 1500+/- journey to New York City.

The trip officially begins on Thursday, but there are lots of things to see and do on Wednesday, so expect to hear a lot from me.

After the jump I have included every social outlet I will be using, if you are interested in all the different ways to keep up with my live coverage. I have also included a photo of the lovely ladies who will be piloting the car along most of its journey. I was even nice enough to include some info about some of the other cool cars that are in the rally. Enjoy.

Feel free to Tweet in my general direction if you have any questions or comments about the car, the team, or the event. I may even try to do a live stream chat from the car if the cell signal holds up. Anything is possible.

Check the jump for the best ways to keep up with Moe during the rally, see some pretty cool people, and learn more about some of the teams.

2014 Lamborghini 5-95 By Zagato

2014 Lamborghini 5-95 By Zagato

Lamborghini and Zagato have a long history of working together, having collaborated on a handful of past one-off models, including the first Zagato-bodied Lamborghini, the 3500 GTZ. From it, a 50-year relationship was born and has culminated in the latest collaboration: the Lamborghini 5-95 Zagato.

Based on the Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4, considered as the best-selling Lamborghini in history, the 5-95 Zagato is essentially a new aesthetic look of the Gallardo LP570-4, designed by Zagato to evoke an instant classic look that shows the purest expression of Zagato’s unique coach-building skills. One look at it and you can immediately tell the noticeable differences between what a Gallardo looks like and what Zagato did to the 5-95.

Unfortunately, the supercar’s look is as far as the changes are concerned. Under its hood - and pretty much all mechanical functions - is still purely Lamborghini. What that means is you still get a 5.2-liter V-10 engine that produces 570 horsepower and 398 pound-feet of torque.

It would’ve been nice to have seen a little performance bump but we’re not complaining on how the entire collaboration came about. That’s one nice looking Zagato-commissioned Lamborghini 5-95, if we do say so ourselves.

Updated 08/07/2014: Zagato produced its second Lamborghini 5-95 which is now ready to leave the Zagato facility in Milano on its way to meet her lucky collector. This second unit is painted in a cool pearl yellow paint. (Farhan AlBastaki)

Barrett-Jackson Hits $25 Million in Palm Beach, Here are the Top-10 Bid-Getters

Barrett-Jackson Hits $25 Million in Palm Beach, Here are the Top-10 Bid-Getters

We all know that Barrett-Jackson is no stranger to the rarest, meanest and sexiest the automotive world has ever seen, and we know that the auction house is also used to eight- and nine-digit takes at the end of each auction. Well, the 2014 Palm Beach Auction was no different than every other one, as it pulled in a cool $25 million. Sure, that is relatively small by B-J standards, but for Palm Beach, that is a pretty good tally. Surprisingly, there was only one true supercar in the whole lineup this year.

This trumps last year’s $21 million, and makes it the second-largest tally since the massive $32 million B-J did in 2007. In total, there were 509 cars sold, and seven of those cars had their proceeds go to charities. These seven cars netted a total of $2.35 million dollars for their respective charities. All of these totals are well and good, but we are here to talk about the cars that really lit up Barrett-Jackson’s coffers, like the incredible $1,000,000 that the 2015 Corvette Z06 drew in and the nine remaining six-digit totals that make up the top-ten highest sales figures at Palm Beach.

Video: Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Super Trofeo Stradale Dyno Testing and Drag Racing

Video: Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Super Trofeo Stradale Dyno Testing and Drag Racing

We may be all hot and bothered with the new Lamborghini Huracan, but technically the Gallardo is still the Lamborghini to buy today. As a quick reminder of why the Lamborghini Gallardo rose to stardom to become the best-selling model in the Italian automaker’s history, we have a pair of videos that show off what the fastest and most capable Gallardo, the LP750-4 Super Trofeo can do.

The first video is a simple dyno run, but it lets you get a good close-up dose of V-10 wail. Final numbers are 509 horsepower. At the wheels. Just be a bit careful with the audio on this one, it starts mid dyno run, and it’s a little loud.

The next video lets you get a good look at what all that power can do. It is a set of three drag races with the first two being against a new 991-generation Porsche 911 Turbo. After more than 10 years in production, the Gallardo was getting a bit long in the tooth, but as these videos show, it certainly aged well.

Video: 2,000-Horsepower Lamborghini Gallardo Shoots Fire on the Dyno

+

In the automotive world you tend to hear the phrase “fire-breathing” and “explosive power” a lot when discussing high-end supercars. This video of a Lamborghini on the dyno brings those words to a more literal level.

The Lamborghini in question is no standard Gallardo. Rather this beast has been tuned by a group called Exelixis Motorsport in Greece, and they are claiming an insane 2,000 horsepower is being produced. Now unless I can see the dyno results for myself, I am going to take that claim with a grain of salt. That said, nobody can argue with angry sound and explosive nature of this beast.

As it sits on the dyno, this Gallardo burps, bellows and howls as massive fireballs explode from the exhaust. I understand that many cars have their bumpers removed for heavy dyno runs to improve cooling, but I can’t help but think that this one was simply melted off.

The video itself is not the greatest quality, but you get a good dose of angry V-10 noise and you can easily see the Lambo try to flambé anyone nearby. It’s a wonderful thing to see, indeed.

LAPD Receives a Lamborghini Gallardo for Promotional Purposes

LAPD Receives a Lamborghini Gallardo for Promotional Purposes

The Los Angeles Police Department is proud to show off this police-decked Lamborghini Gallardo, complete with the department’s traditional black-and-white paint and “To Protect and to Serve” written on its sides. If you want to get a glimpse of the LAPD Lambo, as it is affectionately known, the car is scheduled ot make an appearance at the Los Angeles County Air Show at Fox Field in Lancaster on March 21st through 22nd.

In case you’re wondering, though, that’s as far as the extent of the LAPD’s use of the Gallardo. The police-dressed Gallardo isn’t exactly going to be added to the LAPD’s fleet and chase bad guys down the 101 Freeway.

The Gallardo is actually owned by Nathalie and Travis Marg of Light Source 1, Inc, both of whom generously donated the use of their Lamborghini to serve charitable events for the LAPD Air Support Team. Among its first stops is the aforementioned LA County Air Show later this week and after that, you can expect to see the LAPD Lambo to make more publicity stunts in the future for the department.

Justin Bieber Arrested in Miami for Drag Racing

Justin Bieber Arrested in Miami for Drag Racing

2014 has started "in style" for Justin Bieber; he’s having problems with his neighbors and he’s almost been arrested for cocaine possession, and now the pop star is into even more trouble.

Police officers in Miami confirmed that the 19-year-old singer was arrested for drag racing. According to the police report, Bieber was racing a yellow Lamborghini Gallardo (image above) around 4:09 this morning against a red Ferrari. Both drivers were arrested and the two cars were towed.

That’s not where the fun stops. Bieber also failed a field sobriety test, so he was hauled off to the Miami-Dade County jail for a breathalyzer test. We have to remind you that Bieber is only 19 years old — 21 is the legal drinking age in Florida — and the test must come back with a blood-alcohol content level of less than 0.02 percent, or he can face a six-month license suspension. For the drag-racing offense, he can receive a jail sentence of up to six months, a fine of $500 to $1,000, and a one-year license suspension.

Of course, we don’t any judge to throw the book at "The Bieb," as Bieber’s lawyers will likely get him off with just a fine and a license suspension. But, do you think this will stop him for making the same mistake again? We think not!

At least we can all get a good look at his rather awkward happiness in his mugshot (above).

2013 Lamborghini Gallardo Renazzo by Vorsteiner

2013 Lamborghini Gallardo Renazzo by Vorsteiner

If there’s one word people most associate with Vorsteiner, it’s "reliable." After all, the tuning company has, time and again, built some of the most impressive kits for exotic cars on its side of the world.

It’s work on the Lamborghini Gallardo is particularly impressive and with the Italian supercar now on its last legs, Vorsteiner is giving it the proper send-off, thanks to the upgrades of its Renazzo program.

We actually saw the Renazzo appear as the "Renazzo-V" back in 2012 and now, we’re treated with even more spellbinding changes, specifically the revised front fascia that now comes with a 2-by-2 carbon composite pre-impregnated construction with different floating dual aero fins. A new honeycomb mesh grille set was also installed. You’re not going to see them from afar, but take a closer look and you’ll notice the unmistakable difference in aesthetic and aerodynamic appeal of the Gallardo .

Taking all the changes, Vorsteiner accomplishes its goal of using the Gallardo Super Trofeo race car as its inspiration. And as the proverbial cherry on top of the sundae, the aftermarket company also installed one of its fancy rims in the form of a set of Special Edition Forged VSE-001 one-piecers that customers can order with a variety of finishes.

There are no performance upgrades of note, so we assume that this Gallardo has a stock 5.2-liter V-10 that produces 540 horsepower and 398 pound-feet of torque.

But the best part about the Renazzo program is something that hasn’t even arrived yet. According to Vorsteiner, more upgrades are in store, eliciting cheers from all of us who already think the world of the aftermarket company.

Video: Alexander Mijares Hand Paints a Lamborghini Gallardo

Video: Alexander Mijares Hand Paints a Lamborghini Gallardo

Normally, when someone makes that ill-fated decision of using a paint brush on a supercar like the Lamborghini Gallardo, that’s a recipe for disaster.

But on the rare occasion that somebody with an artistic flair decides to do it, it could result in a pretty expressive product that only adds to the appeal of the supercar.

That’s precisely what artist Alexander Mijares did to the Gallardo. Known for his peculiar, yet incredible, style of art, Mijares showcased his skills on a pretty unique subject: the Gallardo.

It’s a project that requires a tremendous amount of skill and attention to detail in order to pull of. And Mijares was up to the task, flawlessly executive his distinctive style of art on the Italian exotic and giving it a more dynamic character than it already has.

Mijares even showcased his latest masterpiece at Art Basel in Miami, an annual festival of arts that has in the past, welcomed a number of art cars among its most prominent displays.

We’re not that well vested into the intricacies of Mijares’ style, but we do know a piece of art when we see one. His work on this Gallardo definitely qualifies as one.

Spy Shots: Lamborghini Gallardo Successor Caught Testing in the Snow

We should get the official details on the successor to the Lamborghini Gallardo in just a few days, but our spy photographers are still out trying to snap up images of the car. This time, they managed to get some shots of supercar testing in wintery conditions in Northern Sweden.

The prototype caught testing today is equipped with lots of extra lights. Of course, these lights are not actually part of the car. Rather, they are just a requirement for the conditions it was driving in.

The new supercar, which will almost certainly will be called the Huracan, but was once rumored to carry the name Cabrera, will be built on the same platform as the upcoming Audi R8, and it will be powered by an updated version of the current 5.2-liter, V-10 engine.

This revised V-10 will produce 600 horsepower, according to rumors, and the car’s total weight will be significantly reduced when compared to the current Gallardo, so it should be slightly faster and more agile than the model it will replace.

Until we’ll have the chance to finally see the new car, you can try to make it through the world’s three most annoying teaser videos: episode 1, episode 2 and episode 3.

Video: Lamborghini Gallardo Successor - Teaser Number 3

Lamborghini continues to push the envelope of aggravating teasers, with its video series for the upcoming successor to the Gallardo — once rumored as the Cabrera — featuring the three Lambo nuts from London in the Sant’Agata Bolognese factory.

If you haven’t followed the story until now, let us get you up to speed. In episode 1, three guys from London decided to take a trip to Lamborghini’s plant in Italy to be the first ones to "see the new creature car." In episode two, they are already in Italy and slink away from the factory tour in order to stay over night in the factory.

All we really learned n the first two is that one guy has a pretty good-looking girlfriend who likes to walk around nearly nude around her boyfriend’s friends, and that these three guys are like the 007s of spy photographers.

In this latest episode, dubbed "Gettin Closer," the three guys managed to sneak past security and a few office workers, and they are now deep inside the factory. Of course, don’t expect to see the new supercar just yet, as Lambo has a little more teasing to do. Don’t fret, though, as Lamborghini promised us a look at the car by Christmas.

Spy Shots: Lamborghini Gallardo Successor Caught Testing in the Rain

We should get the first official images and details on the successor to the Lamborghini Gallardo in just a few days, but our spy photographers are still hard at work, trying to find the new supercar out and about, and today they succeeded.

The new Lambo was long rumored to carry the name "Cabrera," but new details suggest that this will not be its name after all. Details from folks that actually reserved the car suggest that it will be called the Huracan, but those are also unconfirmed. One thing we do know for sure is that it will carry "LP600-4" in its name, which lets us know that it’s engine will pump out 600 horsepower output, and that it will feature an all-wheel-drive system.

The new supercar will be built on the same platform as the next-generation Audi R8, and will be powered by an improved version of the current 5.2-liter, V-10 engine. Reports also suggest that it will be lighter than the current Gallardo, which means that that it should deliver improved performance figures.

Video: Lamborghini Gallardo Successor - Teaser Number 2

Video: Lamborghini Gallardo Successor - Teaser Number 2

Do you remember the annoying teaser video Lamborghini dropped a week ago that told us nearly nothing about Lamborghini’s new car? It was about three guys from London who wanted to take a trip to Lamborghini’s plant in Sant’Agata Bolognese, and be the first ones to see "the new creature car," which we believe to be the Gallardo’s successor.

Well, now the annoying story continues, and this time it shows the three guys inside Lamborghini’s museum in Sant’Agata Bolognese. From there, they sneak inside the factory where the new supercar is supposedly being developed. As expected, this video also shows nothing about the new car, but it does feature the obligatory good looking woman, who will apparently be part of the next episode. So, the waiting continues...

The Gallardo succesor, which reports are pointing toward not being called the Cabrera, despite previous reports that it would carry that name, will be revealed sometime before Christmas. Various reports indicate that the model will be in fact be a stumpy version of the Aventador, but with a personality all its own.

Stay tuned for more details on the new supercar.

Report: Lamborghini Gallardo Successor Will Not be Called "Cabrera"

Report: Lamborghini Gallardo Successor Will Not be Called "Cabrera"

Lamborghini already started teasing the Gallardo successor, and Lambo promised us the first details on it by Christmas. But, as Lamborghini tries to keep the model a secret, we continue to scour the web to find additional details on the new supercar.

Apparently our searching was worth the effort, as today we came across some interesting details on the upcoming supercar. These details were released by the folks at Only The Best, who apparently took a trip to Lamborghini’s Sant’Agata Bolognese factory, where the new supercar and the Aventador will be produced, and caught a glimpse of the new car as the production-line door opened as they left the factory.

The other detail is that this new supercar will not be called the Cabrera as we believed. Instead Lamborghini opted for a completely different name that includes "LP600-4" — an indication of the 600 horsepower developed by the 5.2-liter, V-10 engine. Now, this isn’t the first time we’ve heard that "Cabrera" will not be the official name, but this is one of the more hands-on reports that we’ve heard, given it actually happened...

The Gallardo’s replacement will be developed on the same chassis as the second-generation Audi R8 and will feature some design elements from the Miura, like the grilles across the entire rear window.

According to Only The Best, the model looks like a stumpy version of the Aventador with a rear end that is pretty similar to the V-12 supercar. The guys report that the model they saw on the factory donned Lambo’s signature Verde Ithaca paintjob.

Video: Lamborghini Gallardo Successor Teased

A few days ago, Lamborghini invited you to listen to the engine sound of the Gallardo’s successor. Now the real teasing begins with the first episode of a series that will reveal, step by step, the upcoming supercar, which is most commonly known as the Cabrera.

The only problem is that the first video says nearly nothing about the car. Called "The Plan," it features three guys that plan to embark on a "secret mission:" get from London to Lamborghini’s plant in Sant’Agata Bolognese, and be the first ones to see "the new creature car." We’re just hoping that the next episode will provide more info about the car and less about the three guys and one girlfriend.

Lamborghini promised that the first details on the new Cabrera will be released before Christmas, but before that check out www.hexagonproject.com for more details and updates on the car.

2014 Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Squadra Corse

While the world was expecting to see the new-generation Gallardo, Lamborghini decided to come up with a new special edition based on the current model. Called the Gallardo LP 570-4 Squadra Corse, this new supercar is based on the Gallardo Super Trofeo racecar, and, according to the Italian maker, it "brings race track emotion directly to the road."

The new supercar was named after the recently founded department within Automobili Lamborghini, which manages all motorsport activities from GT3 to the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo championships in Europe, Asia and America.

When compared to a base Gallardo LP 560-4, the new Squadra Corse version is lighter, more powerful and delivers improved performance figures. As expected, carbon fiber played an important role in the developments of the new Gallardo supercar and many elements were taken from the race track and brought to the road.

Lambo will fully outline the new Squadra Corse at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show.

Lamborghini teases Gallardo successor

Lamborghini teases Gallardo successor

Just yesterday, Lamborghini announced the production of the last Gallardo and today it has already started to tease its successor. The Italian company launched a new microsite — www.hexagonproject.com — that allows visitors to "discover the roar of the new creature from Lamborghini."

What does this mean? Well, visitors can push the ignition button from the screen to hear the revs of the supercar’s new engine. Lamborghini said nothing about it, but rumors suggest it will be a considerably improved version of the current V-10 engine with its output nearing the 600-horsepower range.

Our only question is why the microsite is called "Hexagon Project" when most people expect the new supercar to be called Cabrera? Could it because we are maybe not listening to the Gallardo’s successor, but just another special based on the Aventador — a model that features lots of hexagonal lines? We can’t tell for sure, but considering the Cabrera is the only model that Lamborghini is currently testing, to our knowledge, we tend to believe that this is the first teaser for the Gallardo successor.

Final Lamborghini Gallardo Rolls Off the Production Line

Final Lamborghini Gallardo Rolls Off the Production Line

Lamborghini Gallardo was unveiled in 2003 and during its decade-long run, it was Lamborghini’s sales leader. Now — on November 25th. 2013 — ten years later, it’s time to say good-bye to an Icon in the supercar world, as the last Gallardo rolled off the production line.

The final Gallardo was number 14,022, and it was an LP 570-4 Spyder Performante variant draped in a Rosso Mars hue. The model will go to an unnamed private collector who will receive his car in the upcoming weeks.

To understand what a successful car the Gallardo was, you have to know that during its entire lifespan, Lamborghini sold a total of 30,000 units; nearly half of those were Gallardos. Also, before the Gallardo rolled into showrooms, the company sold a total of 250 units per year. The Gallardo’s presence drove sales numbers up to a total of 2,000 units per year.

With the Gallardo making its triumphant exit, Lambo will now focus on the supercar’s successor, which will be called either the Cabrera or Huracan.

While the world is preparing for the launch of the new Lamborghini Cabrera, which is the successor to the Gallardo, German tuner, xXx Performance, decided to offer toss the Gallardo a new kit as a going-away present.

The kit is based on a 2005 Gallardo, and it’s all about transforming the Italian supercar into a real beast. Video: Lamborghinis Run Wild In The UK

They say that you only celebrate a 50th birthday once, so when it happens, you might as well make it as memorable as possible.

Italian automaker Lamborghini is in the middle of its 50th anniversary celebrations and since the start of the year, it’s celebrated it with the kind of extravagance befitting of its stature in the industry.

Recently, things took an interesting turn in the United Kingdom when the UK Lamborghini 50th Anniversary 50th Anniversary Tour officially opening its doors to the public.

Held at the Danesfield House in Buckinghamshire, over 50 Lamborghinis participated in the event with models ranging from the classic Countachs all the way to the current Aventador Roadsters. In between, there were Murcielagos, Diablos, Gallardos, and even the one-off Oakley Design Aventador LP760 Nasser Edition.

Needless to say, it was as close to a Lamborghini overdose as you could possibly get, and not surprisingly, Shmee150 was right in the middle of all the festivities with cameras in tow.

when it comes to Russians and their supercars — or any car, for that matter — we all know they can get a little over the top. Okay, maybe a lot over the top... Lets take the guy in the above video who decided to push his Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 updated by Underground Racing to its limits.

This bad-boy pumps 2,005 horsepower from its V-10 engine and can hit a as high as 250 mph in a one-mile-long straight stretch. The ugly truth about extreme tuning like this one, is that it comes with plenty of risk, and this dude learned just how risky is was in the above video.

He launched his Gallardo down a one-mile stretch and hit a monstrous 250 mph, but just as he crossed the finish line, the engine went up in flames. The timing of the ignition was so impeccable that it seems like this was just a case of really cool special effects.

After the fire was extinguished, the Gallardo looked pretty bad, but what can you do. Great results sometimes call for sacrifices, right? Just light a cigarette, have a chat and things will somehow fall into place — at least that’s is how this guy handled the situation.

Launched just a few day ago, the new Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Squadra Corse has already had its first extreme testing, as the folks over sportauto.de pushed the newest Gallardo to its limit. Test driver Christian Gebhardt was behind the wheel and he looks rather comfortable in the seat of the speedy Lambo.

We would be quite comfy too, as the new Squadra Corse is powered by the same V-10 engine used in the Gallardo Super Trofeo racecar, which delivers 570 horsepower — 10 horsepower more than the base Gallardo. This is enough power to sprint the new supercar to 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds, to 124 mph in just 10.4 seconds and up to a top speed of 198 mph. This hopped-up Gallardo checks in at $259,100.

Enjoy the video and do not forget to turn up the volume really high so you can hear the V-10 engine in all its glory!
