Sam from ‘Sam CarLegion’ uploaded a video of an Audi S3 taking on a Mercedes-AMG A35 on his YouTube channel. Both the cars feature a four-pot turbo engine and an all-wheel-drive system, but the A35 is slightly more powerful on paper. The Porsche 911 GT3 is the ultimate, normally-aspirated 911 and the YouTube channel AutoTopNL recently got its hands on a 992 GT3 Touring – the more street-oriented, “less shouty” version of the normally-aspirated track weapon, without the crazy aero. And while race tracks are the home of the GT3, here, we see how capable the wingless version is, on the Autobahn. Is the “purest 911” capable enough, in the age of turbocharged performance cars?

The folks at ‘Carwow’ brought two Ford Mustangs to the drag strip. One of them is the 760-horsepower Shelby Mustang GT500, and the other, a Clive Sutton Mustang that makes 850 horses. Can the Sutton-tuned Mustang get an easy win, or will the Shelby GT500 defy the odds and pin its rival down? Let’s find out.

Come to think of it, Sant’Agata Bolognese’s family of models isn’t a big one, but Lamborghini has always been about more quality and less quantity. So to properly celebrate Christmas, Lamborghini set up a lifestyle-y convoy that’s been traveling around Italy to various points of interest, including the CO2-neutral Sant’Agata Bolognese headquarters, the sinuous roads of Alto Adige, and Plan de Corones in the Dolomites, at altitudes of 2,275 meters (7,463 feet), and the AlpiNN restaurant run by Michelin three-starred chef Norbert Niederkofler.

The tour’s main stars were none other than Lamborghini’s V8, V-10, and V-12 powered go-fast machines: the Urus, the Huracan EVO, and the Aventador SVJ. What’s the reason to celebrate, you’re asking? Well, other than the holiday season, an unseen-before boost in sales and profitability for the carmaker. Driven by the Urus super-SUV’s popularity, Lamborghini delivered more than 8,000 cars worldwide, a hefty increase compared to the 5,750 units it shipped in 2018.

But, hey, we didn’t bring you here for boring sales reports and whatnot. With the pandemic still looming over our heads, 2021 was a pretty action-packed year for the auto industry. Now there were several cars that made headlines this year, it was very difficult to pick out the best ones, but the cars on this list definitely stood out. Here’s our list of some of the most highly anticipated and important cars that were unveiled in 2021.

Developing a car from scratch starts with some drawing and calculations, then the building of test prototypes, then pre-production cars, and eventually the pilot production vehicles. Most of the time, test prototypes are usually destroyed when their use has been exceeded, yet here we are looking at a test prototype of the Porsche 959 – a car that is believed to be one of the few surviving examples of the F-Series prototypes from 1985. It’s currently listed for sale on Mechatronik for an undisclosed price, but is It truly authentic?

Russia is known for many things, but cars are not necessarily at the top of the list. When the Soviet Union is mentioned, AK47s, communism, and the Gulag come to mind for a good reason. Their society was geared more towards utility than innovation, so cars like the Lada and Trabant that got you from A to B were best sellers. They are not necessarily horrible cars but do not have any flair either. However, if you dig through enough coal, a few diamonds are bound to be discovered.

Porsche brought back the "Sports Classic" name with the Porsche 911 997 generation as a successor for the iconic Porsche 911 Carrera 2.7 RS. Now, the name will be used once again, and an official launch for the new generation Porsche 911 992 Sport Classic is rumored for February 2022.

Edmunds recently got the chance to pit two of the most powerful stock top-tier Mustangs against each other in a series of drag races. One of them is a treat to the ears, while the other can do some pretty spectacular launches. Any guesses? Well, the answers are obvious, aren’t they?

The folks at Carwow came up with yet another interesting mix of cars for a series of races. The contenders this time were three Porsches, namely, the 992 911 Turbo S, the 991 911 GT2 RS, and the 992 911 GT3. The Turbo S and the GT2 RS have twin turbos, unlike the naturally aspirated GT3, but only the Turbo S had an all-wheel-drive system here. The Audi R8 has been a staple when one talks about performance cars. The car comes with a naturally aspirated V-10 that makes us go weak in the knees even today. We are even more emotionally invested in it now because the R8 is about to be electrified and the V-10 engine will be buried forever. The same engine powers the Lamborghini Huracan as well, but the marque is working on developing a twin-turbo V-8 successor for it. But, until the final adieu, Audi will try to milk the machine as much as possible, and the latest updates to it are a testament to that.

The Lotus Emira is billed as the brand’s very last fuel-powered vehicle, marking the end of its gas-powered lineup forever. We knew this was the case early on as right around the time it was launched, the company also told us that the Elise, Exige, and Evora were officially being sent to the guillotine. It was a bittersweet revelation that we all knew was coming but really didn’t think it was going to happen so fast. Since then, and even more so after the launch of the Emira, we’ve all wondered what would happen next. Will there be a successor to any of Lotus’ legacy models? Is the brand’s once most important model – the Elise – really gone forever? Well, now we know that, at the very least, it might not be over for the Elise quite yet.
