Watch Five Pickup Trucks Try To Invoke The Usain Bolt Spirit In Them In This Drag Race

It was the Ford Maverick, Hyundai Santa Cruz, Nissan Frontier, Toyota Tundra, and the Ford F-150 Raptor facing each other

The folks at ‘The Fast Lane Truck’ conducted a drag race with not two, but five different pickup trucks. They had trucks across segments, starting from the Ford Maverick and the Hyundai Santa Cruz, to the Nissan Frontier, the Toyota Tundra, and the Ford F-150 Raptor. This wasn’t a conventional race wherein you just had all five trucks go at it together. It was more of a gauntlet match wherein the winner of a race faced a new truck in the next round and the loser got eliminated. Sounds a little like Squid Game, doesn’t it?

Ford Maverick vs Hyundai Santa Cruz

The first race was between the new kids around the block – the Ford Maverick and the Hyundai Santa Cruz.

The Ford Maverick is powered by a 2.0-liter, four-pot turbo engine that produces 250 HP and 277 lb/ft of torque. An eight-speed automatic drives all four wheels
Laying out the specs first, the Ford Maverick comes with a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder turbocharged mill that makes 250 ponies and 277 pound-feet of torque.

It is mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox and an all-wheel-drive system.

The Hyundai Santa Cruz is powered by a 2.5-liter, four-cylinder turbocharged engine. It puts out 277 horses and 311 pound-feet of twist.

Power is routed to all four wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

Both these vehicles started out well, but the Santa Cruz got right past the Maverick once they picked up speed and kept at it till the end. Instead of the race times, the hosts had 0-60 mph times. The Santa Cruz sprinted to 60 mph in 7.25 seconds, whereas a solo run later revealed the Maverick did it in 7.74 seconds.

Winner: Hyundai Santa Cruz

Nissan Frontier vs Hyundai Santa Cruz

The Santa Cruz faced the Nissan Frontier next.

The Nissan Frontier features a naturally aspirated 3.8-liter V-6 mill. It puts out 310 HP and 281 lb/ft of oomph. A nine-speed automatic gearbox drives the wheels here

The Frontier is a much heavier truck, and that was evident in this race. The Japanese truck got off to a good start, but the Santa Cruz pulled things back quite convincingly to record its second win in the gauntlet match. The Frontier was quite slow to 60 mph – 9.53 seconds. Blame the weight, off-road tires, and the missing turbo for this.

Winner: Hyundai Santa Cruz

Toyota Tundra vs Hyundai Santa Cruz

The Hyundai’s next challenge was the new Toyota Tundra.

The Tundra was the clear favorite heading into the race and it didn’t disappoint. The Santa Cruz, despite its dual-clutch automatic gearbox, was no match for the full-size Tundra with a twin-turbo V-6 powering it. It took 7.13 seconds to 60 mph. So, the Santa Cruz finally gets eliminated.

Winner: Toyota Tundra

Toyota Tundra vs Ford F-150 Raptor

The F-150 Raptor makes a lot more power than the Tundra even though it also comes with the same number of cylinders and the same displacement.

The Ford F-150 Raptor features a 3.5-liter, twin-turbo EcoBoost V-6. It generates 450 HP and 510 lb/ft of torque. The wheels are powered by a 10-speed automatic gearbox
The 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 is hooked up with a twin-turbo setup that helps it dish out 450 ponies and 510 pound-feet of oomph.

It must be noted that both these trucks are in their respective off-road trims. The F-150 Raptor’s power advantage is nullified by the 37-inch tires it rides on. The Tundra got a small lead off the line, but the Raptor didn’t tail it too bad. In fact, it managed to catch up with it as the race progressed. However, the Raptor need a little more distance to get ahead because at the finish line, it was the Tundra that had its nose ahead. But, that said, the Raptor was the quickest of the lot to 60 mph – 7.02 seconds. If it was hooked up to 35-inch rubber, things would’ve been different.

Winner – Toyota Tundra
