Who would have thought that a Dodge SUV would be laying waste to a Lamborghini?
by Khris Bharath, onHennessy, the tuner from Texas, put out a video of a Durango SRT Hellcat they tuned take on a Lamborghini Aventador S. The video demonstrates precisely what its HPE 1000 upgrade does to the already mental Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat. You have to see this!
The Durango SRT Hellcat HPE1000 by Hennessey vs. The Lamborghini Aventador
Needless to say, the Durango SRT was already the world’s most powerful production SUV. It comes with a mammoth 6.2-liter supercharged HEMI V8 engine making 710 horses and 645 lb-ft of torque. It seems that these numbers weren’t good enough for Hennessy. So they went the extra mile and gave the Durango SRT even more power. How much power you ask?
Well, the HPE 1000, as it stands, is now rocking 1012 horsepower and 969 lb-ft of torque. That is a 300 horsepower jump over the standard Durango SRT.
These are colossal numbers for any car, let alone a family hauler.
Hennessy went to great lengths to achieve these performance numbers. This inlcudes:
- Upgraded High-Flow Supercharger System
- Heavy duty supercharger belt
- Better spark plugs
- High-flow fuel injectors
- High-flow filtration system
- Crank case ventilation system
Work began back in October last year, and Hennessy took nearly eight months to deliver its very first customer vehicle. With this, Hennessy arranged for the Durango 1000 HPE to take on a Lamborghini Aventador S. The show down took place at Pennzoil’s test track.
In the Italian corner, the Lambo is packing a naturally aspirated 6.5-liter V12 churning out 730 hp and 507 lb-ft of torque.
The Aventador has less power than the Durango - nearly 300 horses - however, it also weighs significantly less than the Dodge. Both vehicles come with AWD traction to make it fair, which would help them get off the line easily.
With that, let the race begin. In the first attempt, the Durango launches off the line and gains a substantial lead over the Aventador, crushing the Italian supercar. The Aventador is no match for the Durango’s 1,000 horsepower. You can just about see the lighter Aventador catching up towards the finish line. In this company, the Lambo feels like it’s all show and no go. The drone shots show us as to just how aggressively the Durango 1000 HPE launches off the line.
The Aventador had another go at the Dodge to redeem itself. In the second attempt, the Lamborghini has a slight rolling headstart. However, the outcome was the same. The Durango simply destroys the Lamborghini, and it gets past it almost immediately. We suspect the Lambo’s demise down to its old school gearbox. You can see the Italian supercar struggling to upshift while the Dodge sped off into the distance.
With the Dodge Durango Hellcat SRT HPE 1000, Hennessey has produced a monster. Just imagine pulling up at the lights with your tuned Durango Hennessy next to a supercar. There is no way that someone could tell that you’re rocking nearly 1000 horses under the hood, apart from subtle styling cues. That too in a 3-row full-size SUV. That is until the lights turn green. It makes for a brilliant sleeper car to fly under the radar. The 2021 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat HPE1000 will have a limited production run of just 50 units.
