We want it made into a real kit, but there’s a slim chance for that to happen
by Tudor Rus, on LISTEN 02:31The tuning world isn’t short of widebody kit options ready to imbue the Ford Mustang’s aesthetics. Just have a look at past SEMA shows. But sometimes it’s the work of freelance pixel manipulators that excites the eyes.
Take this attempt at rendering a Ford Shelby Mustang Super Snake. It keeps all the elements that make the current Mustang a Mustang, all while adding beefed-up bits and bobs here and there without going over the top with it. Almost everything’s right about this rendering, from the overly aggressive front end to the sharpness of that rear wing.
This Mustang Super Snake Body Kit Isn’t Perfect, Though
It’s easy to tell that the kit has been rendered integrally in the digital realm. And the first thing that lets you know of its pure digital origins has to do with the obnoxious size of the wheel arches. Now, those are alright if you live inside the fictive world created by Need for Speed Underground or, more recently, Need for Speed Heat. But in the real world, you’ll hardly see this sort of exaggeration.
Then again, this is the creative work of HugoSilva Designs, and we’ve seen this sort of approach in his previous renderings. In all fairness, it looks extra cool and makes the real 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 look like a shy Pomeranian. Which it’s not, of course, because the GT500 packs its fair share of aggressive cues, including a vented hood, race-inspire diffuser, wide fenders, and air intakes.
Come to think of it, HugoSilva’s interpretation of a badass Super Snake makes the real Shelby Super Snake fade away, too. Speaking of which, the 2020 Shelby Mustang Super Snake is fitted with the 5.0-liter Ford Coyote engine tweaked to produce up to 825 horsepower through the installation of a supercharger, which allows it to blast from 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds. Of course, dropping a V-8 on steroids under the hood won’t cut it, so further changes must follow suit. In the 2020 Super Snake, these include:
- extra engine cooling
- performance half shafts
- extra transmission cooling
- a one-piece drive shaft
- 20-inch forged wheels
- Shelby performance-spec tires
- Brembo brakes (6 piston in the front, 4 pistons in the rear)
- Ford Performance exhaust, wheel studs, and track handling pack
In the meantime, we can only hope that a daring tuner sees the renderings, picks them up, and turns them into reality.
