This Mid-Engined, Hellcat-Powered 1968 Dodge Charger Is a Perfect Replica of Dom’s Charger in Fast and Furious 9

Dom (Vin Diesel) will get a pretty special Dodge in Fast & Furious 9. He follows in the footsteps of "Dodge Boy" because the famed movie star consistently drives cars from the celebrated American Muscle car brand in the "Fast & Furious" series. One can never forget the scene from the first film where Dom pulls up in a 1970 Dodge Charger 1327 with a supercharger and pulls of a massive wheelie. And that theme continues. Dom drives a matte black 1968 Dodge Charger 500 in the new film "F9".

Every component on the car has been extensively modified to look the way it does. SpeedKore built it, and it has the power of a mid-mounted Hellcat engine and a Lambo transmission.

This makes it a first for SpeedKore, a company that has spent many years putting together custom dream cars that are mostly front-engined.

The car is finished in a dark Glasurit black with color-contrasting R/T lettering in the back, retracting headlights, bulging front fenders, and even more powerful dimensions in the rear. As is customary for SpeedKore builds, the body is made entirely out of carbon fiber.

First and foremost, the guys from Grafton, Wisconsin had to design and build a bespoke engine structure to accommodate the Hellcat Redeye 6.2-liter Supercharged HEMI V-8 crate engine installed behind the front seats. Instead of the back seat, this magnificent engine behemoth is on display behind a plexiglass screen.

Other notable changes were a bespoke exhaust system, a Saldana Performance radiator installed in the front, and additional high-performance intercoolers in the rear to give fresh air to the 2.4-liter supercharger. The huge V-8 engine is paired with a Magnaflow sports exhaust system.

With these extensive modifications, the supercharged V-8 engine produces 716 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque.

All of that power is sent to the rear wheels via a gated stick shift from a Lamborghini Gallardo. Six-piston front and four-piston rear Brembo brakes are buried behind enormous 275/35 R18 front and 345/35 R18 rear tires wrapped around center-lock performance wheels. If you get the urge to drift, there’s also a hydraulic handbrake!

Step into the cabin and you are greeted with

• Bucket seats featuring leather upholstery and black Simpson racing harnesses
• A built-in roll bar
• A sport steering wheel made of leather
• New vintage round gauges
• There are several aluminum details.
• Side windows made of plexiglass/macrolon
• And that huge V-8 behind the driver creates an outrageously loud cabin

There’s no avoiding the V-8’s operating temperature in the cabin, let alone the wild soundscape.

F9, by the way, is the official title of the ninth installment of Fast & Furious. The premiere in the United States happened on June 25th, while the premiere in the United Kingdom, Germany, and other countries is scheduled for July 8th.

Unlike Toretto’s movie car from F9, this one-of-a-kind car is street legal in the United States, complete with registration. The automobiles in the ninth film of the Fast & Furious franchise are certainly out of this world. But we’re delighted SpeedKore chose to even make a replica of this movie car for the road. A remarkable project that was completed in an astonishingly short period of time.
