It’s official. After hearing all the rumors surrounding the coupé version of the Cayenne, we finally have the answer. Autocar has learned from the Porsche boss, Oliver Blume, that a Cayenne Coupé is more than just hot-talk, and we might see it hit the roads at some point in 2019. Is it going to be a practical car or just a desirable asset with a heavy depreciation?
Best Of Two, In One!
The coupé, obviously, will be based on the regular Cayenne. It will have similarities with its SUV sibling, but apparently, there’s going to be a fresh front bumper design to set it apart. Since it’s a coupé, the changes will be more evident from the B-pillars back. Like with every other coupé, the rear will be designed with sleeker taillights, altered rear side windows, and a liftback-styled tailgate. The taillights will remind you of the second-generation Panamera.
It’s Powerful Under The Hood
This is where Porsche wants you to see the difference. The Cayenne Coupé will come with two engine options – a 2.9-liter, twin-turbocharged V-6 unit that produces 440 horses, and a 4.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V-8 mill that generates 550 horses. A diesel is not going to make an appearance, and there’s no word on the hybrid engine, for now. We will surely be seeing it in the future.
Our Take
It makes no practical sense to choose the Cayenne coupé over its established SUV sibling. It even gets the Cayenne S’ and Cayenne Turbo’s engine. So, why go for this, you ask? Perhaps, for a sedan’s driving dynamics in an SUV-ish body? This coupé is going to be an amalgamation of sorts; with Cayenne’s front, Panamera’s rear, and coupé styling! It may not be practical, but is surely going to be an attention-seeker. Also, Porsche needed something to take on the BMW X6, the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupé, and the recently launched Audi Q8. By the looks of it, the Cayenne Coupé should be able to have an edge over the German trio, as it is still in its development stages. Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
