The Q6 E-Tron is expected to debut in 2022 and will be underpinned by the new PPE architecture
by Sidd Dhimaan, on LISTEN 02:45The Audi Q6 E-Tron is in its development stages, which means it will be caught testing often now. It was recently spied in Sweden for a winter testing session, blanketed in heavy camouflage. However, there were some elements we could decipher here.
What Does The Q6 E-Tron Look Like?
The Q6 E-Tron has been spied earlier as well. The Q6 E-Tron comes with the signature looks of the E-Tron series. It didn’t come with any noticeable changes this time around except for the additional lighting at the front and back that are necessitated by the not-so-bright daytimes of Scandinavia.
The crossover is also riding on winter tires. It looks to have a roofline that dips at the rear, but we still expect a Sportback version to be launched in the future, just like Audi did the Q4 E-Tron and the Q4 E-Tron Sportback.
It Won’t Be Pinned On The MEB Or The J1 Platform
In terms of size, it seems to be as big as the Q5, but expect it to offer a lot more cabin space. The longer wheelbase and the short overhangs are a testament to that. In Audi’s lineup, expect it to slot above the Q4 E-Tron. The Q6 E-Tron will be underpinned o... In fact, the same platform will also underpin the electric Macan. The architecture is capable of supporting rear-wheel steering and air suspension amongst other things, and will also support fast-charging up to 350 kW.
It Could Borrow The A6 E-Tron’s Powertrain
There’s no word on the powertrain and battery specs, but we won’t be surprised if we see the A6 E-Tron’s powerhouse plonked in here. Audi revealed the A6 E-Tron Concept earlier this year, but gave us a fair bit of information. Just like Q6 E-Tron, the A6 E-Tron will also be based on the PPE platform. The A6 E-Tron concept was powered by an electric motor on each axle that made 469 horses and 590 pound-feet of torque combined. The EPA-estimated range is around 400 miles. If Audi wants to keep the A6 E-Tron as the more prestigious model in the lineup, we can expect all these figures to be cranked down a little.
Conclusion
The Audi Q6 E-Tron will be built at the company’s EV plant in Ingolstadt. It is expected debut sometime in 2022 around the same time as the Porsche e-Macan. What are your thoughts and expectations from Q6 E-Tron? Share them with us in the comments section below.
