The 2022 VW T-Roc Arrives With New Looks, Fresh Tech, and is More Practical than Ever
The 2022 T-Roc is more than just the styling upgrades, as there is a new cabriolet variant that steals the show
by Amreetam Basu, onVolkswagen has revealed the updated T-Roc for the 2022 model and with it comes an all-new Cabriolet cabriolet body style. The updated looks and better technology aims to continue the T-Roc’s reign as one of the best-selling SUVs from the house of Volkswagen.
What are the exterior changes done to the 2022 Volkswagen T-Roc?
Available globally, except for the U.S. market, the new T-Roc gets the latest of Volkswagen’s design philosophy. The front end looks similar to the updated Polo and Jetta with LED DRLs and headlights. The new Golf styled LED DRL strip that is split in two by the VW logo has come into play with the new T-Roc. The upper grille gets a new honeycomb design and the lower grille is much more prominent and wider, with the R variant getting non-gimmicky brake-cooling vents. The taillights have been redesigned and now you can opt for the dynamic turn signals for extra cash.
The new T-Roc gets 17-inch alloys fitted as standard and it goes up to 19 inches as you climb up the trim hill. According to Volkswagen, they have redesigned the wheels so that the facelift seems to have a greater impact. In our vision, this crossover is not completely new in the exterior design department, and that the lower front and rear bumpers have not really changed if compared to the outgoing T-Roc.
What does the interior look like after the newer touches?
The first thing that is noticed is that the dashboard design has been changed drastically. The air vents are moved a bit downwards to accompany the large portrait-style 9.2-inch infotainment screen. However, the lower trims get either a 6.5 or 8.0-inch touchscreen unit. The driver information display of eight inches has been added as a standard feature while the 12-inch screen remains an optional extra. The updated MIB3 will possibly bring new changes and updates that will make the experience even better. Like the outgoing model year, the new T-Roc will continue to offer a good cabin interior with decent spaciousness.
Are there any changes in the powertrain of the 2022 T-Roc?
Under the hood of this crossover, there are no changes since it is packing the same 1.0-liter three-cylinder turbocharged engine which delivers 110 horsepower. There are two other engine options, like the 1.5-liter and 2.0-liter four-pot which are rated with 150 and 190 horsepower, respectively. Both the 1.0-liter and 1.5-liter engines come fitted with FWD while the bigger 2.0-liter engine has the 4Motion drive. The T-Roc will be available with either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed DSG. The T-Roc R gets the best of performance similar to what you will get with the Golf R. So there is the same 2.0-liter turbocharged engine but the power is almost doubled to 300 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. This beast of an engine can make the crossover touch 60 miles per hour in just 4.9 seconds.
Final Thoughts
The facelifted T-Roc for the 2022 model year will see a surge in the company’s crossover sales as it is a complete package without a list of compromises. For the £21,000 price point, it is a great crossover and will satisfy the needs of an SUV for small families.
