by Isaac Atienza, onThe Bronco has been such a huge hit for Ford, the only way you wouldn’t know about its existence is if you’ve been living under a rock all your life. Even then, the Blue Oval brand isn’t resting on its laurels as it prepares to launch the Bronco Raptor next year.
In total, seven variants of the Ford Bronco already exist. This high-performance Raptor variant will serve as the pinnacle of the Bronco range, and it will compete with the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 with its Hemi V8 gasoline engine. This video courtesy of Bronco Nation shows us the Bronco Raptor in action, and it’s a video that’s enjoyable to watch and listen to.
Thanks to the non-existence of any background music, we can confirm that it will have a turbocharged V6 engine, and it’s a great-sounding one at that. You can even hear turbo whistles as it conquers the purpose-built off-road course.
Ford is still silent on key details of the Bronco Raptor. While we can confirm that it’s powered by a turbocharged EcoBoost V6, we still don’t know which engine it will be. The 3.5-liter version from the F-150 Raptor produces 450 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque, while a smaller 3.0-liter version with 400 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque also exists under the Explorer ST’s hood.
Either way, the Ford Bronco Raptor will pack some serious performance to go along with its expected chassis and structural upgrades. So far, only four-door prototypes have been spotted, which may suggest that a two-door version of the Bronco Raptor won’t be released anytime soon.
Interestingly, if you watch the video at the 2:20 mark, you’ll see a masking tape placed at one of the door sills with the label "Warthog". This could be the name of the prototype or a name of an upgrade package for the Bronco Raptor.
In the last part of the video, the Ford Bronco Raptor is seen sitting side-by-side with the standard Bronco as a way to highlight its differences. Despite being covered in camouflage, there’s no hiding the Bronco Raptor’s extended fender flares, beefier front bumpers, taller ride height, and FORD grille instead of the usual "BRONCO" branding.
Underneath its skin, we can see an R-branded rear differential, dual exhausts, upgraded suspension, and also its black wheels that are wrapped in all-terrain tires that reportedly measure 37 inches.
For now, this will serve as your closest look yet at the upcoming Ford Bronco Raptor. We certainly can’t wait for this high-performance off-roader to be finally unveiled by next year.
