In case you were wondering how come everybody ignores the children when it comes to electric scooters, well, think again. There are companies that offer such fun contraptions not only to adults, but to kids as well. One such company is Razor and one of its most successful electric scooters is called E100. Now, keep in mind that the E100 is made for children aged eight and above. With that in mind, its top speed is limited to 10 mph for obvious reasons, but it comes in a wide range of lively colors, which is good to see, considering that most e-scooters these days - the adult-focused ones, that is - display the same matte black coating. We also believe this is the perfect introduction a kid can get into the world of electric scooters before moving on to something that packs more performance.
Razor E100 Design
The Razor E100 won’t have you head over heels with the way it looks, but come to think of it, all it has to offer is a stable and safe platform that your kid would enjoy. Now, it does come in a handful of lively colors, as we pointed above, with some of them being yellow, blue, or even pink. The handlebar is pretty basic, with the hand-operated brake occupying the left bar and the twist-grip throttle being positioned on the right-side bar.
Obviously, the e-scooter’s frame was designed with kids in mind, which means you get a handlebar height of 22 inches (that’s almost 56 centimeters) and a deck size of 21 inches by seven inches, which converted to centimeters is 53 by almost 18.
Last but not least, the kid-friendly construction involves the use of steel (for both the frame and fork), together with a retractable kickstand.
Razor E100 Comfort and Practicality
Although the Razor E100 e-scooter comes fitted with a front wheel that’s filled with air, that’s pretty much all the rider gets in terms of comfort. There are no suspensions and the rear tire is made of urethane, which means it’s solid. Of course, the price range being so low, it’s impossible to ask for more in terms of fancy wheels or suspension, but given that your kid will mostly ride the E100 around the park (where asphalt is theoretically smoother than elsewhere), the E100 can do without them.
The Razor E100, however, offers a safety feature that requires the rider to push and kick the scooter before getting any sort of power from the electric motor.
So once the scooter has gotten to a certain speed (that’s 3 mph, by the way), the rider can operate the throttle and enjoy the power of electricity. Otherwise, the e-motor will not engage. Oh, and the battery pack can be removed and swapped for a new one, but it’s best that you let an adult do that and not a kid. You know, safety reasons and all that. And no, the Razor E100 is not foldable, so you’ll have to find a way to safely store it.
Razor E100 Performance
Razor says that initial charge time, that is the first charge after you unbox the E100, takes 12 hours.
Moreover, a normal charge (or recharge) will also take 12 hours. The E100 uses a 24V battery pack that combines two 12V batteries located beneath the deck. This setup, says the manufacturer, allows for a continuous riding time of 40 minutes, which should be more or less the equivalent of, let’s say, 6 or 7 miles at most. The battery feeds a 100W electric motor which is underpowered by all adult e-scooter standards, but since the manufacturer designed the E100 with a top speed of just 10 mph (16 km/h), the lower output is the way to go here.
