Porsche and TAG Heuer have collaborated in the past in various capacities, but the two brands have never formalized that partnership until now. Porsche and TAG Heuer are now official strategic partners, and to consummate the marriage, the two are launching the delightful — and expensive — TAG Heuer Carrera Porsche Chronograph.
Inspired by the “Carrera” name that both brands have used since the onset of their histories, two versions of the Carrera Porsche Chronograph are available.
Maintaining the established 44mm case size, the special edition timepiece comes in a red/black/white colorway that draws inspiration from Porsche Motorsport’s racing colors. The dial has an asphalt look to it that evokes a road surface and a black ceramic bezel with the familiar Porsche script found on the dashboard of Porsche vehicles. Three subdials are located at the three, six, and nine o’clock positions. These sundials display minutes, seconds, and hours, respectively. A date display is also included, located below the six o’clock subdial. The Carrera Porsche Chronograph is clean and classy; it’s quintessentially TAG Heuer in design.
On the other side is a transparent case that provides a clear and clean look at the movements of the watch’s automatic winding mechanism.
TAG Heuer also added a nod to Porsche in the center, which looks a lot like the three-spoke steering wheel of a Porsche 911 from a bygone era.
The Carrera Porsche Chronograph also comes with TAG’s Calbre Heuer Automatic 02 movement with a power reserve of 80 hours and a maximum 12-hour measure for the chronograph.
The Carrera Porsche Chronograph is available as a special edition timepiece from TAG Heuer. It’s available in two different forms with two different price tags. The cheaper of the two costs $5,850 on account of the timepiece coming with a leather strap. Should you opt for the more upscale version with the steel band straps, that’s going to cost $6,050. The watches are already available through TAG Heuer. Best be quick about it, though. There’s a good chance that this limited edition Carrera Porsche Chronograph will sell out faster than it took Porsche and TAG Heuer to launch an official strategic partnership.
