Need a Break From the Family? Here are the Best Car and Racing Movies Streaming Now

Just use your mom’s Netflix to help you escape your mom

The holidays can be exhausting. Family, 5 pounds of turkey in your gut, and black Friday shopping can take a lot out of you. So relax and re-cooperate this week and weekend with TopSpeed’s list of the best car-themed movies and shows on Netflix.

*Disclaimer-there are obviously car movies and shows not on Netflix, but Netflix has by far the largest catalog of any streaming service, except for Motortrend+, of course.

Schumacher

This film covers the racing career of one of the greatest drivers in history, Michael Schumacher. We wrote a review of it a while ago, so check that out.

Bad Sport

Specifically, we mean Episode 2, Need for Weed. It follows drug dealer Randy Lanier who sells copious amounts of weed to help fund his passion for motorsport, as well as the trouble and tribulations that come with that. This is easily one of the craziest stories in the history of motorsport and keeps you on your toes for the whole 55 minute run time.

Rush

The star-studded cast is reason enough to give this one a shot. Ron Howard directs Daniel Brühl, Chris Hemsworth, and Olivia Wilde in this artsy, intense, and historically accurate movie about the infamous Formula 1 rivalry between James Hunt and Niki Lauda in the 1970s.

Framing John DeLorean

This film spends most of its time focusing on the trial and arrest of the late John DeLorean. Starring Alec Baldwin, it is unlike most other documentaries as it includes snippets of the actors describing how they portrayed the characters that lived through these real-life events. It also includes interviews with people who have tried to make movies about this incident in the past, as well as an especially dramatic one with John DeLorean’s grown son, Zachary.

Drive to Survive

Drive to Survive is all about the behind-the-scenes drama in the world of Formula 1. You get a look at the personalities of various team bosses and drivers that you would never get just by watching the weekly races. There are currently three seasons available to watch, with a fourth coming probably a couple of months after the end of this season.

Comedians in cars getting coffee

This show is rather self-explanatory. It stars Jerry Seinfeld having surprisingly interesting conversations with comedians such as Chris Rock to former President Barak Obama. The better episodes are, without a doubt, the ones with another comedian. Oh, and they usually drive a classic car of some kind

Uppity

This brilliant documentary covers the career of Willy T. Ribbs, the first black person to drive a Formula 1 car and compete in the Indianapolis 500. Most of the film is spent in interviews with Ribbs himself and others he worked with, plus original footage from his previous races.
