by Sidd Dhimaan, on LISTEN 06:59FCA’s crate engine lineup is steadily growing with the addition of some tasteful mills. The group’s parts and accessories division, Mopar, unveiled the most powerful version of the Hellcat engine that can be plonked into any vehicle of your choice.
Dubbed as the Hellcrate Redeye crate engine, this 6.2-liter V-8 mill will dish out 807 ponies and 717 pound-feet of torque. Could it BE any better? (high five if you read that in Chandler Bing’s voice!)
This Is The Most Powerful Hellcat Engine From Mopar
The Hellcrate is the fifth V-8 HEMI engine that FCA and Mopar have to offer. We saw this horsepower figure in the Dodge Challenger Super Stock iteration launched some time back. Under the hood of that demon, the same engine produced 807 horses and 707 pound-feet of torque, which itself made 10 ponies more than the Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye.
In the crate engine option, it makes 807 horses and 717 pound-feet of torque, making it the most powerful version of the 6.2-liter, V-8 HEMI engine.

How Is It Different From The Standard Hellcrate Engine?
The Hellcrate Redeye is priced much more than the standard Hellcrate engine, but the difference is not just limited to the extra horses and torque. The Hellcrate Redeye features a larger 2.7-liter supercharger with an increased boost pressure of 14.5 psi as compared to the standard crate engine’s 2.4-liter supercharger with a boost pressure of 11.6 psi. The Redeye Hellcrate redlines at 6,500 rpm as opposed to 6,200 rpm for the standard mill. The other changes include:
- Forged alloy steel crankshaft with 90.9-millimeter stroke and revised balancing.
- Induction-hardened crank bearing surfaces.
- 5150 alloy gun-drilled camshaft optimized for high rpm performance
- Forged high-strength alloy pistons
- Powder-forged connecting rods
- Upgraded shank and big end
- Revised ultra-high tensile fasteners
- 100-percent increase in the piston-cooling jet flow
- Revised valve-spring design and rocker tips for improved lubrication and cooling
- Single-groove collets on valve stems for improved stability
- Oil pan and windage tray optimized for high acceleration
What Comes In The Kit?
The Hellcrate Redeye crate engine includes the complete engine assembly:
- Supercharger with throttle body
- Fuel injectors
- Coil packs
- Water pump
- Front sump oil pan

It comes as standard for the automatic transmission. If you’re planning to make a three-pedal build, then you’ll need to purchase these additional items as well:
- Flywheel
- Flywheel to crankshaft bolts
- Clutch and pressure plate assembly
- Clutch to flywheel bolts
Mopar also offers a Front End Accessory Drive Kit which includes an alternator, power-steering pump, belts, pulleys, and mounting hardware.
Which Are The Other Crate Engines That FCA Offers?
As mentioned earlier, this is the fifth crate engine in the lineup. The others are:
- A 5.7-liter, V-8 HEMI that makes 375 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque
- A 6.4-liter, V-8 HEMI that produces 485 horses and 475 pound-feet of twist
- A 6.2-liter, V-8 Hellcrate engine that doles out 707 ponies and 650 pound-feet of whoosh
- A 7.0-liter, Hellephant mill that churns out 1,000 ponies and 950 pound-feet of twist
How Much Does It Cost?
Mopar has announced that this Hellcrate engine will retail at $21,807. Despite the high price, it is not the most expensive offering. The “Hellephant” 426 Supercharged Crate HEMI engine retails five bucks less than $30,000. However, that engine isn’t offered in any production car and can be had only as a crate engine. Here’s how the other three engines are priced:
- “Hellcrate” 6.2-liter Supercharged Crate HEMI (707 horses) - $20,215
- 6.4-liter Crate HEMI - $10,060
- 5.7-liter Crate HEMI - $6,550
Ford’s Predator Mill Will Also Be Offered As A Crate Engine!
The Hellcrate Redeye engine isn’t the only muscle car crate motor that’s going to go up for sale. As reported by FordAuthority, the Blue Oval is going to offer its ‘Predator’ V-8 powerhouse as a crate engine.
This is the same 5.2-liter engine that’s plonked under the hood of the long-named GT500.
It makes 760 horses and 625 pound-feet of torque there, but there’s no word on the power outputs it’ll make as a crate engine. There’s no information on the price either. We’ll have to wait for Ford’s official confirmation on this, which we can expect soon since Ford wouldn’t want Mopar to be in the limelight for long for the Hellcrate Redeye engine.
Final Thoughts
Mopar says that each Hellcrate Redeye engine is dyno-tested for 42 minutes before being shipped. As for the warranty, there’s a 90-day window to exchange if there are any defects in the material.
