Word in the town is that Lamborghini could come up with a Sian-based model to pay homage to the Countach
by Sidd Dhimaan, on LISTEN 02:49As it turns out, Lamborghini might have a surprise for us in the store. Hushed talks on the internet report that the automaker is prepping to launch a Sian-based hypercar to pay homage to the 50th anniversary of the Countach. But, nothing is official at this moment, so take it with a pinch of salt.
It’s Been 50 Years To The Countach
The Countach is one of the most iconic models Lamborghini has ever launched. Although the production-spec model rolled out in 1974, it officially made its debut at the 1971 Geneva Motor Show as the LP500 Concept. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the same, so we could see the Italian automaker come up with an homage edition for it.
Lamborghini Has Done It Previously Too For The Miura
The company revealed a Miura homage model based on the Aventador back in 2016.
It was to mark the legendry car’s 50th anniversary and Lamborghini had announced just 50 models of it.
It was offered in any of the 18 shades available on the original Miura for the upper part, whereas the lower body would be finished in either gold or matte silver. ‘Limited Edition’ plate and a Miura 50th logo embroidered on the seats made the cabin exclusive. It was priced at around $400,000.
The Countach Homage Will Be Based On The Sian
Apparently, the 50th-anniversary edition will be based on the Sian hypercar. The Sian can be called the electrified successor of the Aventador. While it is bold and looks stunning, it has many design cues inspired by the Countach. So, it’s only fitting that the Countach-homage edition is based on the Sian itself.
We don’t expect it to come with any drivetrain changes. The Sian features Aventador’s 6.5-liter, naturally aspirated V-12 engine, but also comes with a 48-volt hybrid system.
The engine makes 774 horses and 531 pound-feet of torque, whereas the electric motor churns out 34 additional horses.
How Many Examples Could Be Made?
To commemorate the Miura’s 50th anniversary, Lamborghini announced 50 examples of the Aventador Miura Homage Edition. We’d expect the same in the case of the Sian Countach Homage Edition, too. But considering the Sian itself is an exclusive model with production limited to just 63 examples in the coupe form and 19 in the roadster avatar, we think the Sian-Countach will be built in a much smaller number.
How Much Will It Cost?
The price will run into millions for sure, but the publication estimates a price of $3 million a pop. It also mentioned that the car will be showcased to select customers and dealers at a private event. The event could take place on May 18 itself.
