Coming in 2019
by Ciprian Florea, onThe Lambo Aventador SVJ, the world’s fastest production car on the Nurburgring as of August 2018, will soon be offered as a roadster. Shocking, huh? Obviously not. As soon as the coupe debuted at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, we knew that the SVJ was scheduled to lose its roof sooner than later.
There’s no official confirmation from the automaker yet, but AutoGuide claims to have found evidence at the California Air Resources Board (CARB). According to the website, CARB signed an executive order on August 23 certifying four Lamborghini models for 2019.
The list includes both coupe and convertible version of the Aventador S and SVJ. The drop-top SVJ will wear the Roadster badge.
Hardly a surprise, but we still don’t know how many SVJ Roadster models will be built. Lamborghini quoted a production run of 900 units for the SVJ, but it’s unclear whether it applies to the coupe only or if it includes the Roadster as well. Logic dictates that the Roadster will get a separate production run, just like the SV. However, 900 coupes and 900 roadsters would take the total up to 1,800, which is a lot given that the SV was built in just 1,000 examples in total.
Another big question is whether Lambo will attempt a Nurburgring record with the Roadster. The coupe is already the quickest production car around the "Green Hell" with a 6:44.97-minute benchmark.
Granted, the Roadster won't be as fast, but it could set a record for convertibles.
As of this writing, the Porsche 918 Spyder is the quickest drop-top on the ’Ring at 6:57 minutes.
The Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Roadster could break cover in early 2019.
