Rivian

You must have surely heard about Rivian – the company that has has been at the forefront of EV news lately, but here’s a little about the company for the ones living under the rock. Just like any other electric car manufacturer, Rivian also started off by stepping into the supercar segment. However, the company played it smart and decided to branch out before it disappeared into oblivion. A decade post its inception, the carmaker came out with a product that will change the way we look at the segment adored by people in the States - pickup trucks. Rivian launched the R1T pickup truck that looked as cool in reality as it does on paper. The other product in its lineup is the Rivian R1S – an SUV with almost similar specs, but in a boxy shape. Both the products are due for a 2020 launch.

After Tank Turn, Rivian Now Files Patent For K-Turn

This is another maneuverability function that’s similar to the Tank Turn, but seems to be a lot more practical and usable

Rivian took the internet by storm back in the day when it announced a feature that would turn the truck on a dime. Such technology was possible because you have a motor on every wheel which controls them individually. Now, the automaker has milked this hardware some more to come up with something known as a K-turn. In its essence, it is pretty much the same as the Tank Turn, but it isn’t as aggressive and won’t dig a hole if you attempt it on a soft surface.

Check Out What The Rivian R1T Can Do With Christmas Lights

That’s Rivian’s way of saying Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Like many other automakers, Rivian is also in the Christmas spirit. The automaker used its R1T pickup truck to power 20,000 Christmas lights and make it a ‘lit’ night for families at the Timber Pointe Outdoor Center. Obviously, it caught everyone’s attention. It wasn’t a subtle Christmas ad, say, like Ford’s Griswold ad, but it at least showed off the truck’s potential. If only we knew how long it can power so many lights.

Rivian Shows Off The R1T Pickup Truck’s Insane Off-Roading Prowess In A Series Of Short Clips

We’ve been seeing Rivian for a very long time now. The truck is covered in-depth by many websites and YouTube channels and we know what to expect from it. On paper, the specs seem pretty good, but we hadn’t seen it on the road other than spying it a couple of times during testing and commercial shoots. But, with so much happening in the truck segment in the last couple of days, the 2021 Ford F-150 and Lordstown Endurance’s launch, and Ram confirming the TRX’s arrival, Rivian decided to hop on the train too.

Rivian released a few short clips of the R1T pickup truck that show its off-roading prowess. With the Tank Turn also in its arsenal, the R1T might be the next big thing in the off-roading truck niche. How about that!

Rivian and Lincoln - Not a Match Made in Heaven, Apparently

Rivian and Lincoln - Not a Match Made in Heaven, Apparently

Lincoln has called it quits for the time-being

In January this year, Lincoln announced a partnership with Rivian to build the former’s first fully electric vehicle. This didn’t come as a surprise given that the former’s parent company, Ford, has invested $500 million in Rivian. Just three months into the announcement, the partnership has been scrapped. Lincoln revealed this information in a statement citing the “current environment” as the reason. However, this doesn’t mean Ford is opting out of Rivian completely. The companies are still associated and will collaborate on a product in the future.

Rivian Has a Unique Solution to Cater Specifically to Police Officers

The patented seats allow the cops to carry guns with utmost ease

We recently heard Indiana Police Department say it’ll update its fleet with Tesla Model 3s. Not to mention, when law enforcement agencies purchase vehicles, it is generally in big numbers. To make sure Tesla doesn’t penetrate deep into this target market and bags all the potential future orders, Rivian has come up with a solution that is aimed at the convenience of the police officers.

The automaker has developed an unusual design for its seats that makes it comfortable for them to sit and drive around when carrying their guns and weapon gear. Will this be enough to convince the agencies to consider Rivian vehicles to replace their current fleet?

The Michigan-based startup debuted the R1S at the 2018 LA Auto Show. The Rivian twins have pretty much been in the news ever since then. Rivian is touted to be the next big thing in the EV industry, and from the looks of it, it could actually give Tesla a run for its money in the pickup truck and SUV market.

Just Like the Lamborghini Huracan EVO, the Rivian R1S and R1T Will Come Standard With Amazon Alexa

Amazon is making a lot of new friends in the auto world

Amazon has seamlessly slipped into the automotive sector quite successfully. Unlike Sony and Samsung, Amazon is not working on a product directly for now, but it sure has left a strong impression by working with some of the most happening brands of today.

At the 2020 Consumer Electronics Show, Lamborghini added Amazon Alexa to its feature list and this was nothing short of an honor for the Seattle-based company. But it doesn’t end here. Now, Rivian has announced that Alexa will be directly integrated into the hardware of the R1T truck and R1S SUV.

Ford F-150, Rivian R1T, or Tesla Cybertruck? The Electric Pickup Truck Battle Has Already Begun!

Ford F-150, Rivian R1T, or Tesla Cybertruck? The Electric Pickup Truck Battle Has Already Begun!

None of these companies have a threatening advantage over the other two

The latest segment to be hit by the electrification bug is pickup trucks. Although some electric firms - Tesla and Rivian - have been into electrification for years, mainstream automakers have also decided to jump in before it gets too late. The Tesla and Rivian war has been on since the two decided to enter the electric pickup truck foray. The two have been approaching the segment differently and have kind of eased into their spaces. Now that Ford is developing an electric powertrain of its own for the F-150, things could get even more exciting. I’ve listed out five possible scenarios that may or may not be hypothetical.

What is the Cheapest Rivian?

The R1T pickup truck is the cheapest offering from Rivian’s stable as of now. It starts at $69,000. If you compare it to the Tesla pickup truck, which will start under $50,000 according to Elon Musk, it seems to be priced a little premium-like. But it is fairly loaded with stuff like an 15.6-inch touchscreen system that is the biggest we’ve ever seen to date on a production vehicle, a 12.3-inch instrument cluster that displays all relevant data and much more. There is a horizontal hole in the truck which is disguised as a storage space but it actually lies where the gear tunnel would go in a combustion engine. Even the front trunk, or frunk, is fairly large at 11.6-cubic feet.

What is the Sportiest Rivian?

A tough call, but the R1T is the sportiest offering from Rivian, mainly because of its versatility and ruggedness. The R1T is powered by four electric motors - one on each wheel - that produce 197 horsepower each. When working in tandem, the R1T has 788 ponies at its disposal that helps it hit the 60 mph mark from a standstill in 4.9 seconds with the smallest 105-kWh battery pack, 3.2 seconds with the 180-kWh battery (that’s the largest, by the way), and three seconds flat with the 135-kWh pack. The mid-sized battery pack is the fastest because of its weight. Another sporty feature is the adjustable air suspension that can raise the R1T from 7.9 inches to 14.2 inches by the press of a button.

What is the Most Popular Rivian?

The vehicles have not been launched yet, so, it’s tough to comprehend that. But by the sheer curiosity and the liveliness of the segment, it’s got to be the R1T pickup truck. The truck is in a three-way battle with Tesla’s pickup truck and the all-electric Ford F-150 and has created enough hype to keep the enthusiasts on their toes.

What is the Most Expensive Rivian?

The R1S SUV starts at $72,000. It comes with four electric motors placed on each wheel. In its highest capacity, the R1S can cover 410 miles on a single charge with its 180-kWh battery. The quad-motor setup produces a combined output of 700 horses and 826 pound-feet of torque. Mind you, this seven-seater SUV can speed to 60 mph in less than three seconds.

What is the Fastest Rivian?

The official figures for the R1S are not out yet, but the company claims the 0-60 mph sprint is doable in under three seconds. The R1T pickup truck, on the other hand, has different timings depending on the battery capacities. The smallest 105-kWh battery pack truck can sprint to 60 mph from a standstill in 4.9 seconds, the 180-kWh battery-spec in 3.2 seconds, while the 135-kWh battery pack can pull it off in and three seconds flat. Both the vehicles, in all their battery capacities, have the same top speed of 125 mph (200 km/h).

Are Rivian Cars Reliable?

Since the cars are not launched yet, we cannot comment on reliability. But since big shots like Amazon and Ford have stakes in it, we expect it to be rated highly. Time will tell.
