The folks at ‘Carwow’ brought two Ford Mustangs to the drag strip. One of them is the 760-horsepower Shelby Mustang GT500, and the other, a Clive Sutton Mustang that makes 850 horses. Can the Sutton-tuned Mustang get an easy win, or will the Shelby GT500 defy the odds and pin its rival down? Let’s find out.

Shelby is celebrating its 60th anniversary next year. To commemorate the special occasion, the company has come up with another limited-production Mustang GT500 Edition called the GT500KR. The ‘KR’ moniker stands for ‘King of the Road’ and it isn’t a new badge and is one of the most famous Shelby Mustangs ever.

To make sure the KR badge isn’t diluted, Shelby has slapped it on a 900-horsepower Ford Mustang GT500! The production will be limited to 225 examples across three model years of the muscle car.

Did you notice that automakers will use absolutely every possible opportunity they have to reveal a new special edition? Which pretty much translates to asking for money for the exact same car, but with a different color? This is exactly the case with the latest Mustang Shelby GT500 Heritage Edition announced for the 2022 model year.

When owning a performance car, every bit of horsepower counts. That said, over time, wear and tear takes its toll on performance and some of those horses run away. Of course, it mainly depends on how the engine has been treated, both in terms of driving and maintenance. Mileage also takes its toll on the mechanical components of a car. But just how much power (if any) is lost over time? This “tired” Mustang Shelby GT500 answers that.

After obliterating the likes of the GT-R, the Taycan Turbo S, and most recently, the Dodge Demon, the Tesla Model S Plaid faced its next challenger (or should we say, its next ‘victim’?) in the form of a tuned Ford Mustang GT500. The Mustang puts out 1,200 horses; almost 200 ponies more than its electric rival. Just like the Tesla, this Mustang is also a sub-10-second car. Will the Plaid finally succumb to an internal combustion-engined car in straight-line races?

The new 2021 Tesla Model S Plaid takes on Ken Bjønnes in a tuned 1,100 horsepower Palm Beach Dyno Mustang GT500 at MITM Elite for a series of rolling races, followed by a quarter-mile pass by each car. Can the Model S Plaid come out on top?

The Ford Mustang Shelby 500 is the poster child for modern-day muscle car performance, but Ford Performance could have pushed it easily into supercar territory. What’s my basis for that statement? Well, I’m about to show you a video of a 1,250-horsepower Shelby GT500 that will absolutely decimate just about anything on the track.

The latest car to undergo the Hennessey transformation is the 2020 Ford Shelby Mustang GT500. The tuner has equipped its famed HPE1000 package in this car and it now makes 1,000 horses. The changes on the outside and inside are subtle, but massive under the hood. We’re yet to hear about the official 0-60 mph time and the top speed, but it will certainly outperform the standard GT500.

Hennessey Performance had two new visitors at its facility, both of which came to be tuned up to around 1,000 horses. One was a family SUV with a sports car alter ego called the Dodge Durango Hellcat, and the other one was a two-door, rear-wheel-drive sports car from Shelby called the GT500. Both makoverof 700 horses and took under four seconds to 60 mph from rest. These are the stock specs, in case you were wondering. So, before they were injected with steroids, the folks at Hennessey decided to race the two of them because, well, why not! Who do you think will win?

The Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is available with a Carbon Fiber Track Pack that makes it look meaner thanks to a GT4-spec rear wing. It also makes it lighter thanks to the carbon-fiber wheels, carbon-fiber dashboard, and rear-seat delete, as well as more agile on the race track.

On the other hand, it seems that this bundle makes the GT500 slower in a straight line. So if you’re planning to race your GT500 at the drag strip, save yourself $18,500 and stay away from the Carbon Fiber Track Pack.

It has been a year and a half since Ford revealed the Mustang Shelby GT500, and yet here we are still talking about price gouging. The last time this happened, a dealer in Riverside California was asking $185,890, which stood for about $80,000 worth of “market adjustment” or dealer markup. This time, another overzealous California dealer has taken things to a whole new level of stupid.

A while back, Shelby introduced the Carroll Shelby Signature Edition package for the Ford Mustang. The bundle turned the regular Mustang GT into a more aggressive pony design-wise and replaced the standard V-8 with a supercharged unit capable of 825 horsepower. Now, Shelby is extending the Signature Edition to the GT350 and GT500 models. These new packages are much thinner on the performance front, but they’re also notably more affordable. The Signature Edition is available on the 2020 Shelby GT500 and 2015-to-2020 Shelby GT350 models, including the GT350R. Like all Shelby conversions, every Signature Edition car will receive a Shelby CSM number and will be documented in the official Shelby American Registry.

It’s a tough call this one, right? Well, this video is not going to make things easier for you because it pits both performance cars on a circuit from the average driver’s perspective and as far as that is concerned, you’ll be surprised at just how evenly match these speed machines really are despite their very different natures.

Renderings often serve as a fun expression of what we expect from new cars or the evolution of current cars. Sometimes, people create fun, unique renderings that look back on iconic cars from the past with a modern twist of what they would look like today. Every now and then, however, something truly amazing comes to digital life, and that’s the case with the rendering we’re about to discuss here. In short, someone took styling cues from a handful of cars that are iconic in their own right and created an all new car that has never existed and never will exist. Is this what it would look like if some of the greatest car companies in the world came together to build a truly unique supercar?

It was only recently that we witnessed the 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 proving its mettle when facing the likes of Ferrari 812 Superfast, Dodge Challenger Hellcat, and Porsche 911 GT3 RS. As it turns out, the GT500 can not only keep up with the Porsche on the track but also avoid making a fool of itself in a straight-line race against the Superfast, obliterating the Hellcat in the process.

And while the amount of performance baked into the stock Shelby GT500 is downright impressive, a smartly-tuned one is capable of even more greatness, such as dispatching the quarter mile in less than ten seconds.

Some performance happen to come with their fate written. More often than not, they are involved in high-speed crashes. But, sometimes, they are wasted even before they hit the roads.

A couple of drool-worthy 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500s are the latest fatalities in this case. The cars were being transported when the trailer carrying them spun out and threw them on their sides. Interestingly, one of the owners belongs to the Ford clan. How about that now?

Ford has cut the proverbial ribbon on a new Performance Racing School at the Charlotte Motor Speedway in North Carolina. The new school will be the home of the GT500 Track Attack, a new class dedicated exclusively to the just-as-new Shelby Mustang GT500, and owners of the Shelby GT500 will have complimentary access to the school.

It’s becoming a common trend to take new performance cars, slap them on a dyno, and see just how well the performance numbers stack up to automaker claims. We saw it with the Toyota Supra, and it proved to be way more powerful, even in a separate testing session. We saw it when Motor Trend Dynoed the C8 Corvette, and now we’re seeing it with the 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. So, does the GT500 really produce the claimed 760 horsepower, does it fall short, or is Ford and Shelby sandbagging on official specs?
