Jeep | The Middle - A Super Bowl Commercial Rooted in History and a Love For Peace
Unlike last year’s Groundhog Day ad with Bill Murray and the Gladiator pickup truck, Jeep opted for a Super Bowl commercial that focuses on the bigger picture and the greater good. The ad features none other than Bruce Springsteen who delivers a heartfelt message to the viewers about finding ‘The Middle’ in terms of unity. Quite a brave attempt from Jeep, considering that all it showed was an old CJ-5 and, well, a rather controversial casting choice of the musician for this kind of a commercial.
It Doesn’t Get Any More Fast and Furious Than a Toyota 86 Impaling a Box Truck
There are car crashes, physics-defying action sequences, and enough mentions of “family” to make you wonder how far the franchise has come since the first movie hit theaters 20 years ago. The movie’s release has been delayed numerous times — blame the pandemic for that — but it is scheduled to release on May 28. Cross your fingers it doesn’t get pushed back again.
If you’re a Descendent of Edward Scissorhands, The Cadillac LYRIQ Is For You
Remember Edward Scissorhands from the namesake 1990 film? Well, Cadillac has introduced the character 30 years later to advertise its recently unveiled all-electric SUV, the Lyriq. It’s not Johnny Depp this time around; Timothée Chalamet has reprised the role of Depp and Winona Ryder’s son, Edgar, who has inherited his dad’s scissor hands and suffers from the same difficulty of doing the basic tasks around. A different scenario in a different generation, but everything in this one-minute long ad falls in place.
Toyota Shines the Spotlight on Paralympic Athlete in Super Bowl Ad
Instead of touting its new products, Toyota is taking a different approach with its Super Bowl LV commercial. The automaker is releasing a 60-second commercial, called Upstream, and featuring Jessica Long, an American swimmer who is the most decorated Paralympians in U.S. history. The ad touches on Long’s incredible journey from when she was adopted by an American couple from an orphanage in Siberia despite a rare medical condition that resulted in her legs getting amputated to becoming one of the greatest paralympic swimmers in history.
Will Ferrell Has a Huge Problem with Norway in General Motors’ Super Bowl Commercial
General Motors has released its commercial for Super Bowl LV. The 90-second ad stars Will Ferrell, Kenan Thompson, and Awkwafina. In it, Ferrell apparently has a big problem with Norway’s high per-capita ownership of electric vehicles and enlists the help of Thompson and Awkwafina to put the Scandinavian country in its place for being a strong EV market.
The ad also stars two of General Motors’ most high-profile EVs, the Cadillac Lyriq and the GMC Hummer EV. A 60-second version of the commercial will air during the first quarter of the Big Game.
Vroom’s Super Bowl Ad Gives us a Cheeky Look at the Dark Side of Car Dealerships
Super Bowl LV is still three weeks away, but commercials for the big game are already coming out. We’ve always paid close attention to car commercials that’ll air during the game, but there are ads that have already come out, including this cheeky commercial from Vroom that highlights the dark side of the car-shopping process.
The 30-second spot aims to highlight Vroom’s business structure, which allows you to buy a car online and have it delivered to your door, or in this case, your street. From Vroom’s perspective, car buying should be this easy. Hard to argue that point.
Bill Murray’s Super Bowl Commercial With the Jeep Gladiator Was Arguably The Best One This Year
Amongst the plethora of car commercials that aired during the Super Bowl, the Jeep Gladiator ad touched our hearts the most. The commercial saw Bill Murray step into the shoes of Phil Connor, the disgruntled weatherman from the 1993 movie Groundhog Day. In the movie, Phil finds himself stuck in a time loop wherein he relives the Groundhog Day over and over again. Jeep recreated this scene by filming with few of the original cast at the same locations, while subtly putting its Gladiator into the mix.
Super Bowl LIV’s Car Commercials Range from the Absurd to the Emotional
Super Bowl LIV has come and gone. The Kansas City Chiefs, on the back of some clutch plays from Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes, beat the San Francisco 49ers, 31-20. It was the Chiefs’ first Super Bowl title since Super Bowl IV and the game itself was dramatic to the end. That’s great, but we’re not here to talk about Super Bowl LIV. We’re here to talk about what we always talk about this time of the year. We’re here to talk about the car commercials that aired during the game.
There were a lot of car commercials this year, more than in previous years. Automakers like Audi, Toyota, Kia, and Hyundai all spent big to roll out these ads and tout their latest vehicular offerings. One automaker in particular — Volvo — didn’t air a Super Bowl commercial, opting instead to hold a contest that involved a safety being scored in the game.
All told, it was a memorable year for Super Bowl car commercials. There wasn’t one ad that had a timeless vibe to it — think Eminem’s Chrysler commercial and Volkswagen’s Darth Vader commercial from year’s past — but for the most part, all the car commercials achieved the intention behind them. They got people like us to talk about them.
Even if you’re not into football, there’s one thing we can all agree on – the Superbowl usually hosts some pretty awesome car commercials. While there are plenty of commercials during the big game (they cost huge money, by the way) none of the companies that partake in the advertising craze seem to be as competitive as automotive companies. It’s almost like there’s a constant battle for all of them to one-up each other, and it ends up being pretty awesome for the rest of us.
It’s not often that advertisements come off as something we’re excited about, but this is one of those cases. So, with the big game just days away (kickoff happens on February 2,) we thought we’d compile all of the Superbowl LIV commercials released thus far. This includes commercials from Hyundai, Audi, Genesis, Kia, and – believe it or not – Porsche. The latter on that list hasn’t advertised during the big game in decades, so that’s kind of a big deal. Anyway, go ahead and scroll on down to get a sneak peak at Superbowl LIV’s car commercials.
Super Bowl LIV Commercial: 2020 Hyundai Sonata - Smaht Pahk
Super Bowl LIV is just around the corner and ads from car manufacturers are starting to kick in. The latest commercial comes from Hyundai, which advertises its new Remote Smart Parking Assist feature with a handful of celebrities and the help of Boston accents. Yes, Smaht Paht isn’t a typo, it’s the actual name of the ad.
Porsche Returns to the Land of Super Bowl Commercials with an Electrifying Commercial
Porsche is showing its first Super Bowl commercial in 23 years, and the star of the ad is none other than the all-electric Taycan. The German automaker’s first-ever all-electric production car is all set to hit the market this year, but there’s nothing quite like the platform and reach of the Super Bowl to get the hype going.
The 60-second commercial is called “The Heist” and unlike some previous ones that have touted electric technology more than the actual electric cars, this commercial is all about the Taycan… and several other Porsche vehicles. The 60-second ad will air in the first quarter of the game, but if you want to watch the extended cut, you can check out the video and watch it in its entirety.
Volvo’s Already Getting in on The SuperBowl Fever with The Contest of a Lifetime
Super Bowl LIV is less than two weeks away and while the world turns its focus on the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers, the car-loving population is just as interested in finding out what our favorite automakers have planned for the big day. Swedish automaker Volvo has already thrown the first salvo, not with a commercial for the game — there will be no Volvo commercial in the game, actually — but with a contest that could end with lucky contestants getting their hands on brand-new Volvo models. The contest, called Volvo Safety Sunday, is about as straightforward as it gets. Volvo is giving away $1 million worth of brand new cars if a safety happens during the game. Folks who want a chance to win a car can head over to VolvoSafetySunday.com and design the Volvo of your dreams to enter the contest. If a safety happens during Super Bowl LIV, then you have a chance of going home with a real Volvo.
Toyota’s Pinball-Themed Ad for the Supra is A Nice Symmetry to How the Sports Car Has Been Received
The all-new Toyota Supra took center stage at Super Bowl LIII as the star of its own commercial. The 60-second ad, titled “Wizard,” features the Supra driving around what Toyota describes as a life-sized pinball machine as The Who’s “Pinball Wizard” blares in the background. Unlike the snoozefest that was the Super Bowl, the ad presented the Supra in a new and exciting light. The car can flat-out move, which is fitting considering that it probably dodged more obstacles than the New England Patriots and Los Angeles Rams players did in the first half of the game. More than that, the commercial also provided a nice symmetry on the mixed public reaction towards the new Supra. If for nothing else, Toyota’s returning sports car proves that it can dodge criticism as deftly as Julian Edelman dodges the Rams defenders.
The Best and Worst Car Commercials From Super Bowl LIII
Super Bowl LIII has come and gone, and with it came a smattering of car commercials from some of the biggest automakers in the world. Let’s get it out of the way off the bat. This was a weird year for car commercials in the Super Bowl in part because most of the commercials actually didn’t air during the game. Sure, there were a handful of ads from Toyota, Kia, Audi, Hyundai, and Mercedes-Benz, but most of the ads actually ended up on YouTube instead of our TVs. Perhaps it was a way for automakers to save $5 million or so on these TV ads, but if you really want check out all the commercials that these car companies made for the big game, YouTube was the place to be. As for the commercials that actually made the air, well, let’s just say that this wasn’t a particularly impressive year for these ads. There were high spots, but we’re not going remember any of them the way we remember Volkswagen’s Little Darth Vader ad or Chrysler’s tribute to Detroit, featuring Eminem. Those are iconic commercials that are still talked about to this day. As far as this year’s ads go? Let’s hope we can remember one of them in a month’s time.
Audi’s Cashew Commercial for the 2019 Super Bowl Gives Us a Look at the E-Tron GT
Super Bowl LIII is kicking off this weekend, and with it a long list of fresh commercials. Audi’s getting in on the action with a commercial it’s calling “Cashew,” featuring the German automaker’s latest and greatest all-electric concept car.
Updated 03/01/2019: The original post erroneously identified the "chest thurst" first-aid technique performed during the ad as a "Heimlich maneuver." The reference has been deleted.
