There is no dearth of electric cars in the market now. We aren’t just talking about the urban commuters, but also fast electric cars. There are many new automakers that start their electric car journey with fast cars or electric supercars. Companies like Estrema, Aspark, and even Tesla, for that matter, came up with fast electric sports cars or electric supercars. While some have faded into oblivion after showing us promising concepts, some have weathered the storm and are either into production or will enter production.

Here’s a list of the eight fastest electric cars in the world today that are in the production stage or about to enter production. Some of these fast cars are from mainstream automakers, some from established EVmakers, and some from new start-ups.

Lucid Air came out all guns blazing and looked like the only serious threat to the Tesla Model S in all these years. It countered the Model S like-for-like in most of the features and specs. But, in one spec – that probably matters the most in EVs – it has killed the Tesla. I’m talking about the range. The Lucid Air was officially tested by the EPA and it managed to achieve a rating of 520 miles! This is 114 miles more than the Tesla Model S, which used to be the production car with the best range EV until now.

The Lucid Air that was shown last year, the launch was announced as a single spec Dream edition model. Lucid Motors has now decided to offer its very first product, the Air Sedan in two flavors. Buyers can choose between Performance or Range variants on the upcoming Air.

It’s been just over a month since the Lucid Air was launched. Expected to go head-to-head against the Tesla Model S, the Air came with features and specs that could put the former to shame. However, these specs were offered on the top trims and they were priced well over Model S’ trims (barring the Tri-motor Plaid model).

Although it seemed impressive, the biggest question was how would the base trim be spec’d considering it is more in line with the pricing of Tesla’s flagship product. While the details were not revealed back at the time of the Air’s official unveil, Lucid has finally thrown some light on what to expect from this sub-$80,000 model. Will the potential Model S buyers make a switch to the Lucid Air?

There’s no denying that the Lucid Air is one heck of a machine. Looks and comfort creatures aside, the Air is a serious performer. Recently, the Air covered the quarter-mile distance in just 9.9 seconds, thus becoming the first EV to break the sub-10-second barrier.

When EVs are heavy on performance, they generally tend to have low stamina; but not the Air. In almost all the trims, it delivers more than 400 miles on a single charge despite not having a very big battery pack. So, what has Lucid done to make the Air such an all-rounder?

When Lucid announced that it will break the Tesla Model S’ 400 mile-range on a single charge, it was expected to be a few miles more, or just win by the nose. However, Lucid surprised everyone that in its best form, the Air delivers an EPA-estimated range of 517 miles.

After what seems like an eternity, the Lucid Air is finally here. Lucid has unveiled its first product, the Air, that is arguably the most complete EV we’ve ever seen. It comes with a luxurious interior, strong powertrain specs, 500-plus mile range, and performance figures that can put even some hypercars to shame.

Although it squares up against the Tesla Model S, the Lucid is priced a lot higher, thus creating a niche for itself.

TheLucid Air has finally debuted as a 2021 model, and it’s poised to be a very strong competitor for the Tesla Model S with better-than-expect luxury, up to 517 miles of range, and more than 1,000 horsepower in the range-topping model. According to Lucid, the Air can suck in as much as 300 miles worth of range in as little as 20 minutes (when connected to the proper charger) and can even run the quarter-mile sprint in 9.9 seconds consistently. This type of range and performance comes courtesy of a 113 kWh battery pack and a pair of electric motors that allow for AWD. Other niceties include the massive wrap-over windshield and huge panoramic roof. There’s also a 34-inch curved driver information 5K display. Pricing for the Lucid Air will start from below $80,000 to as much as $169,000 for the range-topping and limited Dream Edition with deliveries starting as soon as spring of 2021!!

There’s no denying that Tesla is making the Model S better by the day. It is getting performance upgrades that are keeping the product from going stale. It is even getting better on the drag strips and in consecutive high-speed runs. The Cheetah stance even brought the Tesla Model S in line with the Porsche Taycan. At a time when the Model S was looking invincible, Lucid Air decided to steal its thunder.

It wouldn’t be wrong to say that Lucid Air is kicking Model S’ electric ass in literally every aspect. Right from fastest EV charging to drag coefficient rating to 500 mile-plus range, the Air has one-upped the Model S everywhere. Now, it has done the same on the drag strip by beating the Model S in a quarter-mile race and subsequently recording a sub-10-second run!

It wasn’t too long ago when Tesla Model S broke the 400-mile range barrier and became the most efficient production EV. Then came Tesla’s party pooper, the Lucid Air, which claimed to beat the Model S’ range with ease. Many people expected it to beat the 402 miles of range by just a small margin, but Lucid Air achieved an EPA-estimated range of 517 miles, which is almost 30-percent more than its rival. There was a lot of speculation surrounding the size of the battery pack, but we now know that it was achieved on a 113 kWh pack.

It was only earlier this year that we reported how Lucid’s Air sedan might offer a range well above the 500-mile bracket, becoming the first EV to break that barrier. Now, another report discusses how the yet-to-be-launched Lucid Air will offer super-fast charging capabilities.

It hasn’t been long since we reported that the Lucid Air might beat out the best Tesla Model S with up to 442 miles of range. Considering that the Air starts out at just $60,000 this could put it in a position to effectively dethrone the Tesla Model S. Now, however, a new report from Ars Technica claims that independent testing has confirmed an estimated range of more than 500 miles on a single charge. If this report is true, and the EPA agrees, the Lucid Air could become the first production EV to cross that threshold. How likely is it that the EPA will give the air a similar rating? Well, the chances might actually be pretty good.

Lucid Air is yet to be launched, but there is enough for us to know that it is going to be a big headache for Tesla. The Air will square up against the Tesla Model S to claim supremacy in the premium sedan segment. There have been a lot of talks about its range as well, claiming that it would become the most efficient EV to date.

Now, Lucid Motors has uploaded a teaser video showing the Air’s range to be 442 miles. This is almost 10-percent more than the Model S, which has the current-best range in the market.

In addition to playing host to the Monterey Motorsports Reunion, the Ferrari Challenge, and numerous other high-profile racing events, Laguna Seca is also the latest battleground for cutting-edge EV performance bragging rights, with makes like Tesla and Jaguar attacking the world-famous Californian circuit to show off their battery-powered speed chops. Now, the Lucid Motors Air, the up-and-coming sedan from the Newark-based company, just reset the lap record for production-based EVs. Kind of.

Lucid Motors doesn’t get as many headlines as Tesla or a lot of other electric car manufacturers that are trying to break into the segment. But, when it does, it’s usually for similar financial reasons. This time, though, Lucid Motors is in the news because of what its all-electric sedan, the Lucid Air, managed to accomplish. The company’s first foray into the electric car market managed to hit a top speed of 235 mph. Sure, it did it without a speed limiter, but any car that can push 235 mph is impressive, regardless of whether it’s an EV or not.

The EV war is in full swing. One could argue that it all started with Tesla and the Tesla Roadster, but shots weren’t really fired until Tesla debuted the Model S – the car that would trigger just about every major automaker out there to begin a grueling research and development process that promises a huge influx of all-electric vehicles by the early 2020s. While the big boys plug away at developing models that are affordable and capable of longer range smaller, specialty manufacturers have jumped into the pool head first. Case in point – Lucid Motors Air. Primed to be a true-to-life Tesla Model S fighter, this funky electric sedan will offer a 240-mile range from the standard model and 400 horsepower of near-instant power on demand. The car itself looks like a mix between a deformed Mazda RX-8 with a larger rear door and a Tesla Model S, really, but with a base price of just $52,500 after federal tax credits, it’s a strong proposition in the not-so-crowded EV segment.

What’s more, Lucid Motors developed a battery that is efficient and allows for quick charging without the risk of damage in the long run. But, it’s not just the 100-kWh battery that is what’s so amazing. It’s the1,000 horsepower output offered by the premium and launch editions. This means that Lucid should be able to offer a whole range of Air models with varying horsepower and range, and should be able to undercut Tesla quite easily. How it will compete in a few years when all of the big boys throw on the gloves is a different story, but for now, let’s take a good look at the Air and talk some more about it.

It’s a trick very few start-up automakers have learned, let alone mastered. Promising to build evolutionary cars is one thing (we’ve see it time and time and again in the business), but having a solid foundation of financing in place is another thing entirely. Ambitious companies often fail simply because they don’t have the money to see projects through. Though it would be unfair to put Lucid Motors in that category, its goal of launching the Air electric car just became a little more difficult after getting the cold shoulder from Ford on a potential takeover.

To be fair, Lucid is far from being in dire straits as talks with Ford have not completely gone to waste, according to Bloomberg. The Michigan-based automotive giant simply isn’t looking to make a deal at this point in time, especially when new CEO Jim Hackett is still in the middle of a 100-day review of the automaker’s own plans and priorities moving forward. The timing, apparently, isn’t just right at the moment, although a source close to the talks also told Bloomberg that Ford isn’t shutting the door completely on Lucid’s proposal. Ford does have big plans to be a major player in the electric car industry and having Lucid under its wing could help get the Blue Oval there. For now, Lucid still doesn’t have the money in place to move forward with its own plans for the Air electric sedan. How long this hold-out lasts will likely determine the fate of the company.
