This mini off-roader is one of a kind and is the cheapest Jeep you can buy if, and only if, you want a Jeep.

The Renegade has been the smallest and the cheapest Jeep SUV you can buy right now! For the 2022 model year, Jeep decided to keep the small SUV as it is in terms of the overall design but has ditched the 2.4-liter engine as well as a lot of the trim levels. The Renegade was introduced back in 2015 and is still in its first generation, so should you buy it now or consider other options like the Kia Seltos,, Hyundai Kona, or the Mazda CX-30?

2020 Jeep Renegade - Driven

2020 Jeep Renegade - Driven

After spending a week with the Jeep Reneage, we’ve learned a lot about what has changed and what hasn’t

The Jeep Renegade entered the market back in 2014 as a 2015 model and, despite the fact that it was expected to replace the Jeep Compass, the two models share a home in Jeep’s Lineup. The Renegade has changed a little bit with each model year, but the first official facelift didn’t happen until 2019 when a handful of subtle tweaks offered up a marginally fresh look. Curious to see how the updated Jeep Renegade compares to the launch model that we drove back in 2015, we asked FCA for a new loaner, and this is our thoughts after a week-long experience with the 2020 Jeep Renegade.

2019 Jeep Renegade Hybrid

2019 Jeep Renegade Hybrid

The company’s first hybrid takes on the Kia Niro and Toyota C-HR

The Jeep Renegade Hybrid is the electrified version of the company’s smallest SUV to date. It’s also the company’s first hybrid vehicle alongside the Compass Hybrid. Launched in 2019, it’s identical to the familiar Renegade save for the fact that its gasoline four-cylinder engine works in conjunction with an electric motor. The Renegade Hybrid joins a tight subcompact SUV market that includes plug-in hybrids like the Kia Niro and the Toyota C-HR. But even though it’s a bit late to the party, it comes with superior power, torque, and class-leading off-road capability. Rated at up to 240 horsepower, its hybrid drivetrain is far superior to what Kia and Toyota have to offer as of 2019. Let’s find out more about that in the review below.

The pseudo-SUV also gets new engines

FCA is one of the slowest groups to move towards electrification. Currently, it has got just 3 cars under its umbrella which are anywhere close to electrification. Nevertheless, FCA announced the production of a Jeep Renegade Plug-in hybrid. It will be built alongside the regular Renegade and its Fiat 500X platform mate in FCA’s factory in Melfi, Italy. Jeep will start building pre-production units in 2019, and launch it in the market in early 2020.

2018 Jeep B-Ute

2018 Jeep B-Ute

When a Renegade Trailhawk is not enough!

Introduced in 2014, the Jeep Renegade was received with some skepticism, mostly for being based on a Fiat platform and for being built outside the United States. But the company’s smallest SUV yet became a popular choice in its first three years on the market, with nearly 250,000 units sold in the U.S. and more than 470,000 examples delivered worldwide. The Renegade is close to receiving its mid-cycle update in 2018, but until that happens, Jeep gave the mini SUV a makeover for the Moab Easter Safari. It’s called the B-Ute and is equipped for the ultimate off-road adventure.

Fitted with a series of Jeep Performance Parts, the B-Ute would slot above the Trailhawk model in the lineup if it were to become a production model. It has more rugged features, bespoke interior parts, and enhanced off-roading capability thanks to a lift kit and larger wheels and tires. The name itself is a bit weird, as it combines the letter "B" with the term used for utility vehicles in Australian. Read together, and it would seem like Jeep wanted to call this SUV "beauty." And it’s certainly not! But hey, it was built to tackle rough terrain and not win beauty contests, so it doesn’t really matter.

2019 Jeep Renegade

The baby Jeep is getting a facelift

The cute-ute Jeep Renegade is getting its first mid-cycle refresh. Spy photographers spotted a camouflaged Renegade winter testing in Europe along side the euro-spec Wrangler JL and some Alfa Romeo products. The changes are confined to the Renegade’s front and rear fascias, along with tweaks to the dashboard.

Changes to the drivetrain will likely be limited to a new nine-speed automatic transmission and updated Active Drive 4WD system, both courtesy of the updated 2019 Cherokee. Jeep could even include its new 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, though at 270 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, is a big jump over the for the 2.4-liter Tigershark four-cylinder and its 180 horses and 175 pound-feet. The power would certainly be welcomed, though.

Jeep is expected to debut the updated Renegade sometime in 2018 ahead of the 2019 model year.

2017 Jeep Renegade Altitude

2017 Jeep Renegade Altitude

More style and attitude for Jeep’s Cute ‘Ute

Jeep announced two new special edition Renegades ahead of the 2016 L.A. Auto Show, each with their own unique personality and style. The Renegade Deserthawk is all about off-roading, while this, the 2017 Renegade Altitude is all about street cred with its murdered-out appearance. The Renegade Altitude continues Jeep’s use of the Altitude name and blacked-out styling cues, though this si the first time we’ve seen such a package on the Renegade.

“These two new Jeep Renegade models help to extend our popular small SUV’s continued global success since its launch last year, and to provide customers with the choice of two distinctive and unique special editions,” said Mike Manley, Head of Jeep Brand – FCA Global. Manley says the Renegade Altitude is “for customers looking for an edgy and aggressive appearance,” and mentions that this special-edition model builds off the other Altitude models across the Jeep lineup.

The 2017 Renegade Altitude is based off the Renegade’s Latitude trim level and brings many of the same features found on that model. These things include the 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with its MultiAir2 valvetrain system, a six-speed manual transmission, and standard features that include ParkSense rear backup camera and Keyless Go. The Renegade Altitude can also be had with the 180-horsepower 2.4-liter Tigershark four-cylinder and FCA’s nine-speed automatic transmission. Optional with either powertrain is Jeep’s Active Drive 4WD system.

The 2017 Jeep Renegade Altitude will go on sale beginning in November 2016 for a starting price of $22,390. That represents a $995 increase over the 2016 Renegade Latitude model. There’s a ton more information about the 2017 Renegade Altitude, so keep reading for the full run-down.

2017 Jeep Renegade Deserthawk

2017 Jeep Renegade Deserthawk

The Renegade goes full desert mode for 2017

Jeep announced two new special-edition Renegade models ahead of the 2016 L.A. Auto Show – the 2017 Renegade Altitude and this, the 2017 Renegade Deserthawk. Playing off Jeeps current “-hawk” naming scheme, the Deserthawk brings a slew of minor upgrades that form a rather complete and intriguing special-edition trim. Best of all, this production Jeep is birthed directly from the 2015 Renegade Desert Hawk concept Jeep built for the 2015 Easter Jeep Safari.

This goes to show that Jeep takes its concept vehicles very seriously. While some might be on the wild side, others have the ability to transition into production. That’s exactly the case with the Renegade Deserthawk. Even down to the paint color and graphics package, this production Jeep mirrors the once one-off custom upgrades found on the 2015 concept.

“The Jeep Renegade Deserthawk takes the best-in-class capability of the Renegade Trailhawk and combines it with a unique look and additional features that include rock rails and a towing package – all inspired by the desert’s extreme conditions,” said Mike Manley, Head of Jeep Brand – FCA Global.

Jeep is going so far an announcing pricing and release dates. Yep, the 2017 Renegade Deserthawk carries a base price of $28,140 and will be available come January of 2017. There’s a ton more information Jeep announced about this special-edition model, so keep reading for the full scoop.

Germany Says that FCA is Using Emissions Cheating Devices Too

Germany Says that FCA is Using Emissions Cheating Devices Too

Could FCA be involved in its own dieselgate scandal?

It seems like the word “emissions” just won’t go away lately. There’s all that drama with Volkswagen and, back in May of 2016, Germany accused Fiat Chrysler of using a cheating device on the Fiat 500X. After Italian regulators put the 500X under a microscope, it was deemed that there was no such device, but Germany just isn’t taking that for an answer. As we flipped our calendars over to the month of September, Germany was busy at the European Commission and Italian Transport Ministry filing papers that claimed FCA used illegal exhaust manipulation devices on at least three models.

According to Reuters, those models include the Fiat 500X (again,) the Fiat Doblo, and the Jeep Renegade. Furthermore, it is claimed that testing by German authorities could “prove the illegal use of a device to switch off exhaust treatment systems.” Of course, a statement from Fiat was quick to release with claims that all of the brand’s vehicles comply with emissions laws and that there are no cheat devices. For now, sources indicate Italy have yet to receive any communication from the German government, however, that does seem unlikely given Germany’s consistent push that FCA is indeed cheating on emissions.

Jeep Renegade Drives Olympic-Standard White Water Rafting Course

Jeep Renegade Drives Olympic-Standard White Water Rafting Course

Jeep demonstrates the Renegade’s water fording talents

The folks over at Jeep U.K. decided to demonstrate the water fording capabilities of the Jeep Renegade. But rather than wading in some lackadaisical stream, the team chose the rushing waters of the Cardiff International White Water Center. This Olympic-standard course flows 3.8 million gallons of water per hour in only 820 feet of course, with a 30-foot drop in elevation from start to finish.

Needless to say, the challenge is real.

Jeep chose to use a nearly stock Renegade Trailhawk for the challenge. Jeep and Red Bull ambassador, and snowboarding champ Aimee Fuller would do the driving. The only changes made to the Jeep including adding drain holes in the footwells, raising the airbag ECU by a half-inch, and mounting up a set of winter tires.

The video dramatizes what looks like an uneventful drive down the man-made rapids. The Jeep never seems to be pushed by the water or to have lost traction, alluding to its impressive off-roading abilities. Granted, driving in swift-moving water in an uncontrolled environment is about the dumbest thing anyone can do. It takes a surprisingly little amount of rushing water to sweep a vehicle – even a high-riding crossover – off the road.

Nevertheless, the stunt is impressive to watch. It’s also impressive no other automaker has tired this before, making the Jeep Renegade the first vehicle to ever attempt the feat.

2016 Jeep Renegade Commander Concept

2016 Jeep Renegade Commander Concept

A Renegade concept that’s perfect for hitting the trails at the Moab Easter Jeep Safari

The 50th annual Moab Easter Jeep Safari is coming up with a quickness, and Jeep has put together a number of functional concepts to bring to the party. Some are more interesting and more in-depth than others, but each and every one is special in its own way. Today I’m taking a look at the Jeep Renegade Commander Concept, and while it isn’t as crazy as the Jeep Trailcat Concept or as iconic as the Jeep Crew Chief 715, it does offer its own unique features that are well worth talking about.

Jeep and Mopar have been teaming up to build functional concepts for the Easter Jeep Safari since 2002, using a range of Mopar Performance Parts, and some custom parts to get the job done. Unlike some of the concepts, this Renegade Commander Concept could be replicated pretty easily if it was really something you wanted to take the time to do – a lot easier than the Trailcat Concept anyway.

As you would expect, this concept features a number of different add-ons to make it more worthy of off-roading, but Jeep and Mopar didn’t go overboard on this one. Of course, the Renegade wasn’t that bad for off-roading to begin with, but the features we’re about to discuss makes it that much better. Surely this model will be a blast on the trails in Moab, Utah this year.

From crossover to pickup: This Renegade goes Comanche

Jeep’s concept vehicles built for the 2016 Easter Jeep Safari keep coming. The automaker built a total of seven concepts, ranging from mild to wild. Certainly on the wilder side is this – the Comanche Concept. Built off the Jeep Renegade, the Jeep and Mopar team worked together to build this one-off rig with parts from Jeep Performance Parts, Mopar, and custom-fabbed pieces.

If you haven’t figured it out yet, the Easter Jeep Safari is an annual event held in Moab, Utah by Jeep fans. The club event has seen Jeep bring one-off concepts to the desert trails since 2002. Though Jeep’s involvement is somewhat recent, 2016 marks the 50th anniversary for the Easter Jeep Safari, as well as Jeep’s 75th anniversary. Needless to say, it’s a special year.

The Comanche Concept, along with the other six concept vehicles, will attack Moab’s tough trails during the EJS held March 19 through 27. Afterwards, the vehicles will be used for promotional and other Jeep events over the entire country.

2016 Jeep Renegade Review

2016 Jeep Renegade Review

The smallest Jeep gets it right

The Renegade makes perfect sense for Jeep at this juncture. Not only are compact SUVs and crossovers the current hot market, but the Wrangler has gotten huge in its iconic old age, and a large percentage of the Jeep true believers don’t take the compact Compass and Patriot seriously. With a powerful need to reinforce the Jeep badge, the company needs a vehicle that embodies its strengths.

In that mission, the Renegade is not subtle. In addition to resurrecting a nameplate from a 2008 concept truck and the Jeep CJ-7 before that, the smallest Jeep is a cheeky, boxy little thing that’s practically overflowing with classic Jeep styling hallmarks and designer Easter eggs. Though it’s a humble unibodied crossover, the Renegade sports off-road friendly dimensions and a Trailhawk model that, like its Cherokee Trailhawk counterpart, is capable of following its big brothers on the toughest Jeep Jamboree courses. The Renegade arrives with a healthy dose of attitude and real capability that set it apart from the rest of the rapidly growing compact-crossover herd.

2016 Jeep Renegade 75th Anniversary Edition

2016 Jeep Renegade 75th Anniversary Edition

It has now been 75 years since the first Jeep was introduced in 1941, just ahead of the U.S. involvement in WWII. It was good timing, as it meant that U.S. forces were properly equipped for the war, and it also meant that the Jeep brand was able to grow very quickly. To commemorate the anniversary, Jeep is rolling out a whole series of special editions for all of the brand’s models. This includes a whole, frankly impressive, range of exclusive paint colors and other aesthetic touches and options bundles.

The Renegade 75th Anniversary Edition isn’t quite as optioned up as some of the other special editions, as Jeep clearly wanted to offer a whole range of pricing options, and with the Renegade being one of the more inexpensive models already, it wouldn’t have made a lot of sense to option it up too much. The package doesn’t make for a big increase in price, because if any brand knows how to make a special edition that’s worth buying, it is still definitely Jeep. The special edition is based on the Renegade Latitude, which is the middle trim level of the small SUV, so a lot of options would be included whether it was a special edition or not.

Jeep is again having transmission software woes related to the nine-speed automatic derived from the popular ZF eight-speed. This time, the issues surround the 2015 Renegade – Jeep’s version of the Fiat 500L and 500X. FCA had very similar problems with the Cherokee during its rollout back in 2013. And as before, the issues are keeping dealerships from receiving inventory.

Like with the Cherokee, engineers are having issues calibrating the Renegade’s nine-speed automatic transmission. Unlike the Cherokee however, the Renegade has its own unique 4WD systems, which according to FCA’s CEO Sergio Marchionne, during a recent SAE awards ceremony, is the reason calibration of the drivetrain is taking so long.

This means FCA is holding freshly minted Renegades from heading to dealers while the software is being vetted. Jeep has already sold 5,157 Renegades, so those Jeeps will likely be under recall once the software is fixed. Marchionne predicted the issue should be resolved by mid-June.

The CEO made no bones about how he felt, speaking candidly at the awards ceremony. “I’m having a very bad engineering day. It’s a combination of attributes of that vehicle that is making my life horrible.” Despite his troubles, Marchionne received an industry leader of the year award from the SAE Foundation.

The Renegade wasn’t the only vehicle Marchionne mentioned. Check out our report on his talkings regarding the next-generation Jeep Wrangler.

Jeep’s newest SUV might not seem conventional to the rough-and-tumble brand, but after spending a week behind its leather-wrapped wheel, the 2015 Renegade proved to be all the things that embody the Jeep persona. It’s small in size, is available with a manual transmission and 4WD, and comes packed with tons of personality and throwbacks to its heritage.

The Renegade is all new for 2015 and shares much of its greasy bits with the Fiat 500L. That includes everything from its architecture to its powertrain. Nevertheless, Chrysler engineers have somehow injected enough Jeep DNA into the Italian crossover, making it inherently different. Easter Eggs and specialty design cues make the Renegade one of the most unique vehicles on the market – not to mention a hit with the petrol heads and car nerds.

And popularity is what Jeep is striving for. The Renegade will be sold in more than 100 markets worldwide. To help broaden the appeal, engineers have included no less than six engine options and an unprecedented 16 powertrain combinations when 4WD and transmission choices are factored in. Sadly on two of those combinations are coming to the U.S. and are already familiar to FCA showrooms thanks to the Dodge Dart and Chrysler 200.

Jeep Beach Breaks Guinness World Record with Longest Jeep Parade

Jeep owners from across the country gathered in Daytona, Florida this past weekend for the annual Jeep Beach, and in doing so, set the Guinness World Record for the longest Jeep vehicle parade at 1,846 Jeeps.

The record easily surpasses the last Jeep-held record of its kind, set in 2011 at the Bantam Jeep Festival with 1,106 Jeeps. This also marks the second recent record-breaking parade for FCA, with the Ram Truck brand taking home a trophy after having a 3.2-mile-long parade filled with 438 Ram trucks.

The Jeep Beach parade record took place April 26 at the hallowed Daytona International Speedway’s 2.5 mile-long oval track, with Jeeps packed nearly bumper to bumper. Though the Wrangler dominated the numbers, other Jeep vehicles participated in the event, including the new 2015 Renegade; the Cherokee, both old and new; the Grand Cherokee; and even several of the 2015 Easter Jeep Safari Concepts, including the Staff Car, Chief, Wrangler Africa, Cherokee Canyon Trail, and the Renegade Desert Hawk.

Thought he parade steals the headlines, the Jeep Beach event lasted all week long, and involved thousands of participants, more than 2,400 vehicles, and countless venders selling Jeep gear. An obstacle course was erected within the Speedway’s infield, consisting of challenges from mild dirt tracks to fierce concrete rubble rocks.

Additionally Jeep built thee other vehicles that include the Grand Cherokee Overland – the perfect camping rig; the Renegade Desert Hawk – a good-looking desert trekker; and the Cherokee Canyon Trail – a matching companion to the Renegade Desert Hawk complete with extra skidplating and rock rails.

All this is in conjunction with the 49th annual Easter Jeep Safari that is taking place March 28 through April 5th where thousands of Jeep fans will gather with their own Jeeps for a week of off-roading on some of America’s roughest trails.

Jeep has always been good for showing off its designers’ talents with a slew of concept vehicles every year, and 2015 will be no different. Headed for the Geneva Motor Show floor is the Hard Steel concept – a bare-body Renegade fitted with tons of custom work, Mopar parts, and its own little mini-me trailer.

It’s hard to deny the coolness (and cuteness) of this ‘ute and its tag-along friend, especially when considering all the one-off design elements found hovering over all six wheels. The bodywork is perhaps the most eye-catching aspect of the pair. Looking something like the DMC DeLorean, the brushed bare metal look really adds some character. A nice suspension lift and upgraded tire package increase the Renegade’s off-road abilities while a skidplate engraved with “Trailhawk” protects all the vital greasy bits.

Of course, there’s plenty to tell about that Renegade rear end trailer. It houses a host of technology and a massive flatscreen TV for tailgating. During the Geneva show, it will showcase Jeep’s Uconnect Live system, complete with all the current streaming audio and navigation systems.

Jeep had a handful of vehicles at the North American International Auto Show this year, including a couple modified Renegades. Those who favor the rugged side of Jeep vehicles took an appreciation with the Renegade Off-Road equipped by Mopar. Its lifted suspension, Trailhawk-spec 4WD system, and exterior upgrades made it ready for the trail. However, Jeep didn’t forget about the folks living in more urban areas where the streets aren’t always strewn with rocks and mud. This Renegade Urban Jeep shows the more city-friendly side of Jeep.

The Renegade Urban still gets similar exterior upgrades as the Renegade Off-Road. A bespoke orange accent color graces the wheel inserts, roof rack, side mirrors, grille rings, and taillight accent trim. The vehicle also comes with a Mopar-sourced trailer hitch and bike rack.

The Jeep’s mechanicals are all untouched – left just like every Limited trim level that rolls off the factory line. The 4WD system still offers plenty of capabilities to hit weekend trails and muddy passes, yet still gives a tamer ride for weekday drives around town.

2015 Jeep Renegade Off-road Mopar-Equipped

Jeep has announced it is bringing two custom Renegade concept vehicles to the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, one of which is this off-road themed Renegade.

Coated in Commando Green paint, the Renegade receives some interesting graphic along its sides that mirror the “X”-shape in the taillights, which themselves, mirror the old school Jerry cans Jeeps used to carry back during its military service. The concept has much of its roots dug in an actual production vehicle. Behind all the additions and swanky paintwork, is a Trailhawk model complete with all the off-road goodies.

The Trailhawk package adds Jeep’s Active drive Low 4WD system with a 20:1 crawl ratio; the Selec-Terrain system that features different driving modes like rock, mud, snow; a suspension lift of 0.8 inches; unique 17-inch wheels and all-terrain tires; red-colored tow hooks; and beefy skid plates. The Trailhawk also comes standard with the 2.4-liter Tigershark four-cylinder engine and nine-speed automatic transmission.

Beyond the mechanicals, the Commando-colored concept features a topographical map of Detroit on its hood, a roof basket for hauling gear, and a single red-colored spoke on each wheel that matches the red tow hooks front and back, along with the laser-etched “JEEP” logo on the upgraded rocker panel guards.

Jeep upgraded the Renegade’s interior with Katzkin leather seat covers and Commando green HVAC bezels, speaker grilles, and center console cover. Of course, Jeep added slush mats front and rear for muddy boots and a cargo tray in the rear for extra storage – both of which are standard Mopar accessories.

2015 Jeep Renegade Riptide

2015 Jeep Renegade Riptide

If the SEMA Auto Show ever had a name-game award to give to the most appropriately named concept in attendance, the Jeep Renegade Riptide ought to be in the running. Specifically styled for surfing trips in the summer, the Renegade Riptide doesn’t shortchange you with a fancy name and nothing to back it up. It even looks a lot more practical than similar concepts we’ve seen in the past. Remember the 2009 Kial Soulster? How about the 2013 Volkswagen Beetle Beach Battle Cruiser or the 2012 Toyota Tacoma Oakley Surf?

The Renegade Riptide is packaged similarly to those other concepts. The only difference is that I can actually see the Renegade Riptide being sold in Jeep dealerships sooner than later. It’s the perfect look for the diminutive Renegade too, especially since the model is still trying to carve a niche within the Jeep lineup. The Wrangler has its corner, as does the Grand Cherokee and by extension, the Cherokee. That leaves the small crossover Renegade to own the young, up-and-coming market. The Renegade Riptide perfectly showcases that with a combination of stylish looks and useful, new equipment.

I’m a big fan of this model because it clearly knows what it is and doesn’t try to do anything that might run contrary to its identity. The Renegade is a hip, small crossover targeted for the beach-going crowd. No more is that evident than with the Renegade Riptide, which Jeep will proudly display at the 2014 SEMA Auto Show.

2015 Jeep Renegade Frostbite

2015 Jeep Renegade Frostbite

Jeep is bringing a pair of Renegade crossovers to the 2014 SEMA Auto Show with every intention of showcasing the vehicle’s potential as a crossover for all seasons, and now it’s time to check out the wintry cool appeal of the Renegade Frostbite. In a lot of ways, the Renegade Frostbite is presented as a winter wonderland sidekick, complete with plenty of white and blue shades to remind us of crossover’s massive potential for adventure.

The Arctic theme is clearly evident and Jeep creatively played around with it by adding a lot of essential winter upgrades that deserve a showcase booth at the 2014 SEMA Auto Show.

Far more important than just holding a spot at SEMA, the Renegade Frostbite is the perfect aftermarket introduction to the Renegade crossover. If customers didn’t know how fun the Renegade is and how it can be easily adapted to any situation, the Frostbite concept provides the appropriate showcase of its capabilities at the biggest aftermarket show in the world.

Sure, the Renegade is still the newest Jeep, but it won’t be long before we see it headed to snowy mountains, all packed and ready to go.

2014 Jeep Renegade Zi You Xia Concept

2014 Jeep Renegade Zi You Xia Concept

The Jeep Renegade is barely a few months old, but somehow, a special design concept has found itself halfway around the world at the Beijing Auto Show. This is the Renegade Zi You Xia, a new concept that Jeep created specifically to highlight the Renegade’s sophisticated side.

It’s quite appropriate that Jeep nicknamed this concept ZI You Xia, which means "rebel" when translated to English. Even more so with all the China-inspired details the baby Jeep received to cater to its host market.

For one, the Warm Chocolate Gray with a contrasting Dark Anodized Bronze colors of the Renegade Zi You Xia were inspired by the colors of the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing. The latter, in particular, you can clearly see used on the grille throats, front fog lamp bezels, rear lower fascia, skidplate, taillight insert bezel and badging.

To serve as a third shade of the exterior, a Dark Charcoal paint color was used on the roof panel, grille surrounds and door mirror caps of the Renegade Zi You Xia, something Jeep describes as creating harmonious accents throughout the body to cultivate a more premium appearance for the otherwise clunky-looking crossover.

Given how new the Renegade actually is as a model, it’s hard to gauge just how well it’s going to be received in the Chinese market. We’ve gotta give credit to Jeep for preempting sales with this concept study of the Renegade. Chances are, a lot more Chinese customers will be drawn towards Jeep’s newest model now that they know what a Renegade can look like under the best of circumstances.

2015 Jeep Renegade

2015 Jeep Renegade

Fiat-Chrysler has unveiled its latest offspring at the Geneva Motor Show, the all-new 2015 Jeep Renegade. The little Jeep represents the brand’s first foray into the small crossover market, but its global market reach will be anything but small. Fiat-Chrysler is will sell the Jeep in over 100 markets worldwide while targeting youthful, thrill-seeking customers.

That global reach hasn’t stopped the Jeep from showing its rugged roots though. Two four-wheel-drive systems, decent ground clearance, a removable top, a manual transmission option and loads of cargo room are all part of the Renegade’s tactical plan for world domination. And with its lineage tracing back to the Willys MB Jeep that helped win WWII, we’re not quick to discount the plan, despite the Renegade’s less than macho exterior appeal.

The Renegade will offer an unprecedented 16 powertrain combinations with 6 engine options in total, though the U.S. is only getting a small number of them, with both being familiar from other Fiat-Chrysler products. The 1.4-liter turbo I-4 from the Fiat 500L serves as the base engine, while the 2.4-liter Tigershark I-4 from the Dodge Dart and Chrysler 200 fills the top-tier slot. A six-speed manual transmission will come attached to the 1.4-liter while the 2.4-liter gets a nine-speed automatic unit. Front-wheel-drive will come standard with four-wheel-drive being an option.

With its attractive cuteness, clever interior packaging options, and impressive list of amenities, it’s easy to imagine the Renegade catching on worldwide. The question remains, however, is it worthy of the Jeep name and Trail Rated badge? Click past the jump to find out.
