The third-generation A-Class has been around for only six years as of 2018, and Mercedes-Benz has already launched a redesigned model. That’s not exactly surprising though, as the Germans are looking to replace each model after a six-year cycle in the future and the A-Class is one of the first to be part of this strategy. Spotted stretching its wheels in Europe since early 2017, the new-generation A-Class broke cover in February 2018, about one month before its public debut at the 2018 Geneva Auto Show. And by the looks of things, the competition doesn’t stand a chance against it.
The interesting thing about the upcoming A-Class, aside from the usual upgrades involving sportier looks, a refined, roomier interior, and more powerful and efficient engines, is that it will get a sedan version. The three-box model was previewed by the A-Class Sedan Concept in 2017 and as it turns out, it shares quite a lot of design features with the new hatchback. Inspired by the new CLS, the A-Class Sedan wasn’t just a fancied up concept, with most of its features transferred on the production five-door model. But until the four-door arrives to take on the Audi A3 Sedan and the China-only BMW 1 Series Sedan, let’s have a closer look at the most technologically advanced premium hatchback on the market.

Unveiled in the summer of 2019, the Mercedes-AMG A45 introduced the world’s most powerful 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. Under the hood of the top-spec S model, the M139 mill cranks out 310 kW (415 horsepower, 412 PS) and 500 Newton-meters of twist or around 369 pound-feet of torque. These guys, though, can consideraby improve on those numbers by just tweaking the car’s software.

As far as premium hot hatches go, this lot here is the creme de la creme. Sure, some might argue that the VW Golf R is not exactly premium, but then again, it is a premium car if we look strictly at its performance credentials, don’t you think?

German tuner Renntech, who’s been tweaking AMGs since 1989, had a stab at the new Mercedes-AMG A45 which, by everyone’s standards, was doing just fine in stock form. AMG Is Rewriting Rules Of Compact Cars With the Unbelievably Powerful 2020 AMG CLA 45 & A45
Created in the Affalterbach pleasure house of AMG, the new 2020 Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 and the 2020 Mercedes-AMG A45 have become the most potent automobiles powered by four-cylinder engines. With a "one man - one engine" philosophy, each Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 and A45 come with a hand-made “M139” 2.0-liter engine capable of delivering 382 horsepower or 416 horsepower (in its S version). Mercedes-AMG has revealed an all-new 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four engine that, at least as far as output goes, is poised to become the most powerful series-production four-cylinder engine in the world. It’s called M 139 and as far as specs are concerned, its output - as much as 416 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque — is an absolute doozy. The staggering figures translate to a specific output of 208.9 horsepower per liter, higher than what you can expect to get from today’s supercars. Then again, Mercedes-Benz and its in-house performance arm, Mercedes-AMG, are known for being at the forefront of innovation. This isn’t anything new, except the actual engine, which we’ll eventually see on the automaker’s next generation of “45” models, including the A 45 Sedan, GLB 45, CLA 45, and CLA 45 Shooting Brake.
The New Four-Cylinder From Mercedes-AMG is Crazy Powerful
We’re really looking forward to the new Mercedes-AMG A45 because it will be powered by a new four-cylinder engine with even more power than the one it replaces. It is a brand new unit, dubbed M139, that according to the manufacturer is the most powerful four-cylinder engine in series production, with an impressive 208 horsepower (211 PS) per liter output.
BMW has taken a leap of faith after looking over the fence at Mercedes and its highly successful A-Class and launched its own front-wheel-drive hatchback, the new 1-Series. Naturally, since BMW is a manufacturer with sporting aspirations, its new 1-Series will be sold as an all-wheel-drive hot hatch too, the M135i that almost perfectly mirrors the formula (and specs) of the spiced up Mercedes-AMG A35.
It’s as if the two rival manufacturers copied each other’s formulas, then went ahead and materialized the idea in their own way and their own style. The result is two highly enticing premium hot hatchbacks with oodles of appeal and bags of charm - but which one do you go for?
There are probably few rival models in the world right now that are so close in so many ways, yet their manufacturers are completely separate entities. If you were to choose one of these cars based on performance, you’d have a very hard time doing so because they are almost identical. But even so, they will undoubtedly be cross-shopped, so a conclusion should be reached as to which one is the better buy - a tall order, no doubt, that will require an in-depth analysis of each taken separately, as well as both together and in the current market context.

The Chinese market has always been a hotbed for limousines. In recent years, though, a different kind of limousine has enraptured the hearts and wallets of Chinese consumers. Manufacturers have adapted to the specific needs of the Chinese automotive market, and one of the prime adaptations has to do with providing long-wheelbase versions of sedans they already sell elsewhere. Now, that may not seem especially ridiculous if you think about a C- or E-Class Mercedes, for instance, but an extended wheelbase version of the compact Mercedes-AMG A35 sedan? That’s certainly more unusual.

Mercedes was obviously making a car to go up against the Audi S3 when it created the AMG A35 model to sit beneath the full-blown A45 model in the range. The A45 is aimed to compete against the RS3, so the A35 is for those who want most of the look and performance of an A45, but without the harsh edge associated with these more hardcore cars.
The new AMG A35 sedan was just revealed, and it’s about as close a rival to the S3 as one could hope for. They are evenly matched in terms of size, power, and performance, although they adopt very different visual styles. Even mechanically they are similar, relying on 2.0-liter turbocharged engines, all-wheel drive and their brand’s known sporting pedigree in order to stand out.
But the Audi S3 is a familiar name that’s been around for a lot longer than A35, but then again, until 2017 there was no S3 sedan, so the formula is fairly new. These cars really couldn’t be better matched - it’s clear that the two manufacturers were studying one another while they were developing these two models.
The S3 sedan didn’t really have any natural rivals, but now that the A35 sedan has come along and hot versions of BMW’s upcoming 1-Series sedan and 2-Series Grand Coupe are also in the pipeline, this segment will be heating up soon. One could argue that the A35 sedan is one of the biggest reasons for it.

The Mercedes-AMG A35 is a performance-oriented version of the A-Class Sedan. The A35 slots between the regular A-Class Sedan and the upcoming Mercedes-AMG A45 and competes against the Audi S3 Sedan in the U.S. and the BMW 1 Series Sedan in China. Compared to the regular A-Class Sedan, the AMG A35 stands out thanks to a slightly sportier exterior, a revised interior with unique features, and a beefed-up four-cylinder engine that generates in excess of 300 horsepower.
Not only does it provided competition to the cool Audi S3 Sedan, but the AMG A35 Sedan will also be here to go against the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe that’s scheduled to arrive in 2020. After several years with the S3 Sedan as the only option in this niche, Mercedes joins in to start a fresh battle in the subcompact performance sedan market. 2019 Mercedes A-Class vs 2019 Mercedes CLA
Mercedes’ line of front-wheel drive-biased models used to be pretty simple: you had the A-Class, a practical yet rakish compact hatchback, the B-Class, a more MPV-like (or people carrier-like version of the A-Class,) and then the sleek CLA that successfully impersonated a smaller version of the sexy CLS.
However, you can now order a sedan version of the A-Class and the new CLA. Sure, the latter is certainly more dramatic to look at but not to a huge degree. If you look at both cars from the front side by side, you will notice that only the headlights are really different. From the side, you can definitely see the CLA’s coupe-like roof and C-pillar - it’s the C-pillar of the A-Class sedan that really makes it look different.
When it comes to the rear, the A-Class sedan has a unique design not shared with other Mercedes, whereas the CLA has almost identical clusters to the larger CLS. Step inside, and you’d be hard-pressed to tell which is which - spotting the interior differences is far trickier than doing so on the outside.
The Geneva-Bound 2020 Mercedes-AMG A45 Could Eclipse 400 Horsepower
It’s been almost a year since Mercedes-Benz introduced the fourth-generation A-Class and we’re pretty anxious to see the new AMG A45 model. Thankfully, we don’t have to wait long as the beefed-up hatchback is set to break cover at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. And the good news is that it will deliver more than 400 horsepower!
Pricing for the 2019 Mercedes A-Class is In and The CLA-Class is No Longer the Cheapest Merc on U.S. Roads
Mercedes-Benz revealed the entry-level price for the new A-Class Sedan. You will be able to get it for $32,500. Go for the 4Matic and be prepared to churn out two grand more at $34,500. This is considerably more compared to the 2013 Mercedes-Benz CLA - the entry-level Mercedes-Benz in the U.S. at the time. That one managed to slip just under the $30,000 mark and was the only Mercedes-Benz to achieve so.
Long gone are those days. While the A-Class Sedan isn’t as special as the CLA, the new car definitely has some merit in the world. And, while $32,500 does not sound that bad for a new Mercedes, this price does not include the destination charge (so, add a grand on top of it) and don’t even imagine having access to all the amazing Mercedes-Benz tech found in higher-end models.

Mercedes’ first hot hatch, the A45 AMG, is monstrously quick around a twisty road, with its 400 horsepower and all-wheel drive grip, yet it’s not the most feelsome or engaging hot hatch to throw around. The Three-Pointed Star’s second attempt, the new A35 based on the fourth-generation A-Class (bearing the internal codename W177), is much better in this respect.
Ford Mustang Tries to Race a Mercedes-AMG A45 and Ends Up Regretting It: Video
A Ford Mustang and a Mercedes A45 AMG were involved in a huge crash in South Korea after both cars figured into an ill-advised race that quickly got out of hand. A video of the race taken from inside the Ford Mustang shows the muscle car blatantly disregarding traffic laws in the country. According to the description, both the ‘Stang and the A45 AMG were reportedly running at speeds of up to 110 mph on roads with a 37-mph speed limit. The reckless driving ultimately came back to bite both cars in the bee-hind, resulting in the Mustang getting spun around and ending up on the sidewalk. There are no reports of injuries, so that’s about the only good thing to come out of this idiotic episode.

The color blue never goes out of style, so it’s fitting that in the Fashion Capital of the World, Mercedes-AMG unveiled the feisty A 35 in a resplendent blue shade that accentuates its sporting good looks. The hot hatch officially made its debut at the 2018 Paris Motor Show with a point to prove. While it does trace its roots to the A-Class, the AMG 35 is nothing like the model it’s based on. It looks angrier and more aggressive, and more importantly, it has a powerful 2.0 turbocharged four-cylinder engine that can embarrass the socks off anyone who underestimates its performance capabilities. The Mercedes-AMG A 35 doesn’t have a price yet, but those details will be announced sometime in 2019. Unfortunately, it’s not coming to the U.S.
Mercedes-AMG A35 vs Audi S3
When Mercedes-Benz unveiled the fourth-generation A-Class in 2018, it basically dropped a giant anvil on the hatchback market. Fitted with never-before-seen technology and infused with design cues from the bigger sedans inside and out, the new A-Class trumps the BMW 1 Series and the Audi A3 in just about every department. With a handful of models already available, Mercedes-Benz just unveiled the AMG A35. Offered for the first time, it slots above the A250 and below the upcoming AMG A45.
The A35 is Mercedes’ answer to the long-standing Audi S3 and BMW M135i and arrives just when these two hatchbacks are getting a bit long in the tooth. But while the 1 Series is almost out of the market, to be replaced by a front-wheel-drive model, the S3 was facelifted recently and will be around for a few more years. Mercedes is changing the formula for the performance end of its A-Class range, which will now feature two models: a hot A35, which was just revealed, and an even hotter A45 we don’t yet know very much about. But why wait for the A45 when this A35 is already a very enticing premium hot hatch with a unique look and strong performance?
The A35 has over 300 horsepower, 295 pound-feet of torque, and all-wheel drive to enable it to hurl itself from naught to 62 mph in 4.7 seconds. Its top speed is electronically pegged at 155 mph, but if other similar cars with comparable power numbers are anything to go by, it should nudge 170 mph when unrestricted.
It also looks quite appealing, I think, with its aggressive bumpers, side skirts, and rear spoiler. Inside, it’s been spruced up with sports seats, yellow details, and a flat bottom steering wheel to leave you in no doubt that it is a performance-oriented car.

2019 Mercedes-AMG A35
The Mercedes-AMG A35 is an intermediate, performance-oriented model of the fourth-generation A-Class hatchback. Offered for the very first time since the subcompact was introduced in 1997, it slots between the A250 trim of the standard A-Class and the range-topping AMG A45.
The AMG A35 is Mercedes’ response to intermediate performance-oriented hatchbacks from BMW and Audi. Both Germans brands have been offering models like the M140i and S3 for quite a few years now, and they’ve been very popular with customers who a bit more than what the standard models offer, but don’t want to go all out on proper M or RS cars. The AMG A35 joins the battle with more than 300 horsepower on tap, sportier looks, and all the state-of-the-art tech that Mercedes-Benz debuted on the regular A-Class.

2019 Mercedes-AMG A35 4Matic Unveiled
Following a round of teasers, Mercedes-AMG has finally revealed its latest fire-breathing hatchback - the 2019 A35 4Matic.
“Body shell, suspension, all-wheel drive, transmission, driving programs, fine tuning - every detail has been designed for maximum driving dynamics without compromising on everyday comfort,” Merc announces.
The main party piece can be found under the hood, where Mercedes stuffed the hot-to-trot A-Class with a turbocharged four-cylinder making as much as 306 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. Properly applied, its enough to send the A35 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in a scorching 4.7 seconds, while top speed clocks in at 155 mph. The boost snail is a twin-scroll unit for sharper response.
Routing the muscle is a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, which feeds an AMG-tuned, electro-mechanical 4Matic AWD system. The torque split can vary between front-wheel drive only, to a 50:50 split front-to-back.
Keeping it shiny side up are MacPherson struts up front and a four-link for the rear. There’s plenty of aluminum to keep it all light, while a set of adaptive dampers can be had for a little extra outlay. Large four-pot brakes clamp the front, with brake rotors that measure in at 13.8 inches in front and 13 inches in the rear.
The A35 looks the part of a hooligan thanks to AMG’s classic styling chops, which includes a unique grille in the nose, aero-optimized 18-inch wheels in the corners, and a large spoiler mated to a pronounced diffuser in the rear.
Inside the cabin, you’ll find the latest MBUX infotainment goodies, plus AMG’s signature upholstery treatment and a flat-bottom steering wheel. A fully digital instrument display provides the feedback.

Mercedes-AMG A35 reveals its wing in new teaser
Mercedes-Benz seems to enjoy playing mind games with their fans and customers, testing their ability to wait for their upcoming releases while putting out a number of revealing sneak peeks. This is the case with their new A35 AMG which will be shown off to the public for the first time at the Paris Motor Show that kicks off on October 4th.
With each new Mercedes-AMG launch, you really have to take a moment to soak in all the details in order to appreciate the job done by the people in Affalterbach. That’s why each new image that Mercedes-Benz leaks out of their new hot hatch, the buzzing A35 AMG, keeps the hype alive as we look forward to a peek inside.
In the latest couple of images released by the German automaker, we can feast our eyes with both rear-end view and a view of the nose, albeit only half of each – hopefully they don’t have a good half and a bad half! What we get is what we’ve been expecting with Mercedes beefing up the body kit of their current A-Class with bigger air inlets and a host of purposeful winglets on either side. It’s the same story at the rear where we get dual exhausts, a diffuser for underbody aerodynamics and a generously-sized wing almost identical to that on the outgoing A45.
Mercedes will also unveil a new A45 early next year but, until then, we have to contend with its little brother who’s looking to scare away its neighbors: the likes of Audi’s S3, BMW’s M140i or Volkswagen’s Golf R. Granted, you’ll have a hard time telling the two apart if you don’t glimpse of their front ends, since the A45 will feature the Panamerica grille while the A35 is stuck with this twin-blade design we’ve become familiar with on lower-tier Mercedes models.

No, wait; I’m talking about the Mercedes-AMG A35. The car was spotted burning rubber at the Nurburgring recently, and from the looks of it, the car is set to take on the world. 2019 Mercedes A-Class Sedan Edition 1
With the launch of the new Mercedes A-Class, Mercedes-Benz is once again adding some special edition spice to the proceedings with the release of the A-Class Sedan Edition 1. The special edition version of the A-Class packs a lot of exclusive equipment in its tight body, all coming as standard to the model. It will also be compatible with all engines being offered for the A-Class as well. Mercedes only plans to sell the A-Class Sedan Edition 1 for around a year.
I honestly feel that Mercedes-Benz outdid themselves with the latest A-Class Sedan. It is a car so perfectly suited for the compact sedan niche, that I have no doubt the company is going to dominate the market. Even more so than it did when the CLA appeared some time ago.
Ok, the world did receive much the same car, but the market habits of US customers (yours, actually) did make the A-Class sedan slightly different compared to all others. And, If I am to assume, cheaper as well.
So, in short, Americans will buy a lot of A-Class sedans that are better equipped and quicker than in the rest of the world for less money.
