2020 has been a shitty year. There’s no other way around it. But change your perspective a little, and you can also say that 2020 has been a great year for the human spirit and the drive to help others in need.

The latter is one of the reasons why Mazda created the Mazda Heroes program, which aims to give back to individuals who are putting in the time and effort to help other people. To show its appreciation, Mazda will choose 50 people who have proven that not all heroes wear capes. All 50 people will not only be recognized for their efforts, but they’ll also go home with a Mazda MX-5 Miata 100th Anniversary Special Edition.

A lot of combustion engine cars on the market are named after their engine specs and characteristics. This has been a long-running tradition, but it has left automakers in a fix when it comes to naming their electric cars. While some have worked their brains and named their electric cars sensibly, Porsche decided to continue with its ICE monikers even for the Taycan. The top-trim Taycan has been named the Taycan Turbo, and we cannot stop laughing. And, for those of you that are unaware, No - you can not turbocharge and electric car.

Ford Mustang and F-150 enthusiasts likely know American Muscle. It’s a huge aftermarket parts supplier with add-on parts ranging from cosmetic bits to full crate engines ready for a project car. Well, the retailer is throwing a huge give-away with one lucky winner taking home a 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor, an 850-horsepower Mustang, and an aluminum race trailer stocked full of tools and race tires!

At the heart of the package is the highly tuned Mustang. This current-gen car has a Whipple supercharger sitting on its modified 5.0-liter Coyote V-8 that makes 850 horsepower at the crank and just over 725 horsepower at the rear wheels. It comes painted in a custom Tangerine Orange paint with a unique styling package. It rides on upgraded wheels and tires that can be swapped out for the drag slicks and skinnies found on the trailer. All told, this one-off Mustang has more than $30,000 worth of aftermarket parts bolted on.

Towing duties are given to a 2017 F-150 Raptor SuperCab. It comes untouched from the factory in Blue Flame paint with the optional Black Graphics Package. American Muscle didn’t have to do anything to the Raptor’s 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 since it makes an impressive 450 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque. The 35-inch-tall BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 tires and 10-spoke wheels reamain. The Raptor’s 6,000-pound towing capacity should be more than enough to pull the Mustang and aluminum trailer to the track.

Speaking of the trailer, it comes equipped with drag radials for the Mustang’s rear axle and skinnies for the front. It also has a full assortment of tools a race team might need in the pits.

The Race of Gentlemen might not be a racing event you’ve heard about given its young age, but it certainly doesn’t lack history. Taking place on the sands of Wildwood, New Jersey, folks come from across the country to compete in a drag race in custom-built racecars and motorcycles that date back to the first half of the 20th century.

Established in 2012 by the Oilers Car Club – a group steeped in just as much history – the race features cars no newer than 1935 and motorcycles no newer than 1948. Even the parts allowed on competing cars are capped at 1953, giving the growing event a very eclectic and period-correct feel. Think of it like a modern day version of a Bonneville Salt Flat race.

Despite the modern times, no woman has ever competed in a TROG race – until now. Set to race in this October is gearhead Jessi Combs. Her records speak volumes about her mindset and passion in the automotive world. She’s the fastest woman recorded on four wheels, accomplished TV show host, and graduate of WyoTech’s collision and Refinishing Core Program. Jessi will lead an all-women’s team sponsored by Craftsman at this year’s TROG. Their vehicle of choice is a Ford Model T that takes inspiration from the famed Ford 999 racer.

Best of all, Craftsman giving away two tickets for TROG, including travel and accommodations, for this year’s event taking place October 2-4, 2015. The winner and his friend will get a ride in the Craftsman racer, along with time in the pits with Jessi and the Craftsman Crew, including dinner and a professional photo for posterity. Waze is a crowd-sourced smartphone app that usually points out places for drivers to avoid (such speed traps and traffic congestion), but the app will soon have some hot spots that users won’t want to miss. Promoting the September 15th launch of Furious 7 on DVD, Blu-Ray and On Demand, Waze is teaming up with Universal Studios to create Prizing Pit Stops in seven cities across the U.S.

Users in Portland, Dallas, San Francisco, Washington, D.C., New York, L.A. and Chicago will be able to locate the areas where they can receive free swag, including apparel, license plate frames and codes to download digital copies of the movie. Users will receive messages and directions from Waze to locate the Prizing Pit Stops.

Just like speed traps and traffic jams, the Prizing Pit Stops won’t be around for long. Each one will last for just 90 minutes before moving to another location – each city will get three pit stops throughout the day. For specific dates, check out the press release posted below.

Dodge, in coordination with Contur Cabinet LTF and Swisstrax Corp, is running a promotional contest that will give one person a garage makeover valued at $20,000. While you do have to make some effort to enter, there is no gimmick that requires you to test drive a new vehicle, or even visit a dealership. All you have to do is visit Dodge’s Facebook page and register. Once you’ve registered, make a 60-second video showing off your Dodge and your makeover-needing garage, then uploaded it through Dodge’s Facebook app.

You must register and upload your video by September 21st to qualify for the contest. Your entry will then be judged against all others based on creativity and originality, among other things. The panel of judges will pick five contestants to move on to the final round that starts on October 7th. For the final round, those five videos will be publicly displayed on the Dodge’s Facebook page where everybody will be able to vote once a day for the best video.

The grand prize winner will receive a customizable storage cabinet from Contur Cabinet Ltd and customizable flooring from Swisstrax Flooring. The four remaining finalists will receive a smaller storage cabinet from Contur Cabinet. Those of you who don’t own a Dodge vehicle, but intend to vote will receive one entry into a $500 sweepstakes for every vote (limited to one vote a day.)

If you play Forza Horizon 2 on the Xbox One, then I have some good news for you. The Playground Select Car Pack is finally here, and it includes some pretty cool cars to customize and cruise around in. The pack includes the 2015 Volvo S60 Polestar, 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona Hemi, 1997 McLaren F1 GT, the 1978 Ford Mustang II King Cobra and the 1952 Fiat 8V Supersonic. Don’t worry Honda fans – a 1986 Civic Si is included in the pack as a free car. If you don’t feel like buying another car pack just yet, don’ worry because you don’t have to.

Gamescom 2015 is currently underway, and in celebration of that, Forza is offering the car pack free of charge until August 11, 2015. Don’t rush right to the Xbox Marketplace to get it, though, as it isn’t available there. To download the free pack, you must go through the Forza Hub app. In the app, you’ll see a button for the Playground Select Car Pack that will lead you to the area where you can redeem and download the pack. If you haven’t purchased the game yet or aren’t able to download it in time, you can purchase it for $5.00 in the marketplace after August 11th.

It’s been only a month since Forza Horizon 2 added the Porsche Expansion Pack, which features 10 of Stuttgart’s best cars, including the 2003 Porsche Carrera GT, 1986-1989 Porsche 959, 2011 Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0, and the 2014 Porsche 918 Spyder, and the racing game franchise is now offering two more vehicles from the German carmaker. For free!

It’s called the Porsche Bonus Pack, and it features two turbocharged models from completely different segments. One is the 2011 Porsche 911 GT2 RS, the 611-horsepower beast that was Porsche’s most powerful production car at the time of its launch, while the other one is the 2015 Porsche Cayenne Turbo, one of the world’s quickest SUVs, with a 0-to-60 mph sprint of just over four seconds.

How do you get these awesome cars? All you have to do is look for the “Two Free Porsches!” story on the front page of the Forza Hub app, click that story to open it up and then click the button that will take you to the Porsche offer. From there, you’ll go to the Xbox Store where you can grab your pair of free Porsches. Make sure you hurry though, as the Porsche Bonus Pack is only available until Friday, July 24th.

Honda recently announced that U.K. customers have swooped up every available 2016 Honda Civic Type R in the country and it is all sold out until next February, which is a bit of a downer for those hot-hatch fans left waiting around for new models to be built. However, it appears as though the automaker managed to stash a single Type R fresh off the assembly line, and now, it’ll give it away to whichever Brit that manages the fastest lap in a simulated run around the Nurburgring. 

It’s called the “King of the Hell” competition, and soon virtual pilots will be invited to tackle the notorious German race circuit via “state-of-the-art training simulators.” 

Details are a bit sparse, but it appears as though participants can get in on the action by showing up at a Type R roadshow at one of 15 designated locations scattered around the U.K. between July 17th and November 1st. There, they will set a qualifying lap in an “X-box race simulator.” Once qualified, the participant can set multiple lap times in the “Type R simulator,” with the quickest time counting towards the competition.

Winner takes all, which means a gratis 12-month loan of a brand new Civic Type R. 

Honda made headlines earlier this year when it announced that its new turbo rocket had managed to set a time around the ‘Ring in 7:50.63, making it essentially the fastest FWD hatchback on Earth.

The typical gearhead knows a thing or two about getting down and dirty under his vehicle. Oil changes, brake jobs, spark plug swaps, and water pump replacements – it’s all done in fun with a grand sense of accomplishment and ownership when the task is done and the tools are wiped clean.

It’s that sense of accomplishment after a job well done that Craftsman will be instilling in the participants of its annual MAKEcation event coming this September 24 through 27 in Brooklyn, New York. The event plays host to several skilled artisans and craftspeople who will guide and coach attendees through a weekend-long workshop where things will be made and spirits will be high. Craftsman’s MAKEcation is basically a DIYer’s chance to sharpen her existing skills and learn some new ones.
