BMW Now Offers A Carbon Fiber Roof on the 3 Series and 4 Series
BMW announced a series of new features and drivetrains for the 3 Series and 4 Series models, including an optional M Carbon roof. Previously offered only on the range-topping M3 and M4 models, the carbon-fiber roof is no offered on lower-tier versions of the compact. Specifically, you can order it on the gas-powered M340i xDrive and M440i xDrive, as well as on the diesel-fed M340d xDrive and M440d xDrive variants.

The old Bimmers have a charm that the new ones just cannot match. An E9 from the 70s has arrived at Bring-a-Trailer and it certainly looks like one to collect. A Short Film Starring an E30-Gen BMW M3 Reminds Us How Therapeutic Driving Can Be
The E30 BMW M3 is one of the most memorable and iconic cars to every come out of BMW’s stable. It was one of those times when an automaker managed to get everything right from design, to performance, luxury, and everything in between. The E30 M3 was, without a doubt, an absolute blast to drive to the point that’s it practically therapeutic. And, that’s where this short film, titled “The Interview” comes into play.
I don’t want to and spoil it for you, as you simply must watch it from start to finish. But, the base line of the story is that the main human character is faced with a serious dilema. He’s heading to yet another job interview, only to leave in disappointment. Right around the same time, his girlfriend pushes the issue that the struggle is so bad that he just might have to sell that wonderful M3 if he doesn’t get the job.
Needless to say, the main character and the E30 have a close bond and, despite his next interview not going well, our protagonist takes off for a drive. The ending is pure bliss, but you’ll have to watch it to see what happens. The point is that this short film will remind you how a good, long drive in the right car can be one of the most amazing stress relievers on the planet. Alpina is one of BMW’s most loyal tuners and the latest 3 Series-based B3 models continue to boast with a unique identity and performance figures that irk any M3 owner. The G20-generation B3 Touring is the 462 horsepower stopgap in a world without an M3 Wagon in it. Our only complaint? That we can’t buy this pinstriped grocery-hauler Stateside.
Once upon a time, Alpina and AC Schnitzer were duking it out on the race tracks of the world as BMW’s favored privateers teams. They Are So Young and BMW is About to Kill Them - Which Models Will BMW Send to the Guillotine to Save Cheddar?
There’s a glamorous side to the auto world that we often celebrate in world debuts, product launches, and concept car reveals. But as exciting as that side of the business is, the actual business of making money is about as ruthless and cutthroat as it gets. We don’t often see this aspect of the industry, but when it rears its ugly head, it can turn the fortunes of an automaker upside down without warning. Like most automakers, BMW’s bottom line is its number one priority. When that bottom line trends north, everyone goes home with a smile on their face. But what if that bottom line suddenly reverses course? Panic ensues and plans and projects, no matter how new, are scuttled and thrown directly into the trash bin. To be clear, BMW is still profitable; it’s just not as profitable as it would like to be, especially with heavy investments in hybridization and electrification draining most of its profits away. To keep its numbers from spiraling out of control, BMW is reportedly considering axing several models from its lineup, including a pair of models that have just been unveiled in the last couple of years. The cost-cutting measures come at a time when Bimmer is redirecting its attention and resources towards projects that will help it remain relevant in the next decade. It’s just that, by doing that, we’re likely going to have to say goodbye to some of the automaker’s current models, none more surprising, at least in my mind, than the new BMW Z4 and coupé and convertible versions of the BMW 8 Series.

It’s fitting, too, that just as Mercedes unveiled the 2019 C-Class a few months ago, it didn’t take BMW long to roll out the next-generation 3 Series. With both models offering something new to the table, it’s only fitting that we compare both models to see which one has the edge over the other.
2020 BMW 3-Series Touring arrives as more practical alternative to the sedan
If sporty rear-wheel drive wagons are your thing then you will love the all-new 2020 BMW 3-Series Touring that was just revealed. It’s essentially the same proposition as the sedan, but with extra carrying capacity and practicality - two characteristics that make it more appealing to families and those who go on frequent road trips.
Some will just buy the wagon over the sedan simply for the look - throughout Western Europe you see various generations of 3-Series Touring pass you on the motorway, so that part of the world’s love affair with the more practical end of the 3-Series range is well known. But, this new one still needs to show improvements over older generations in order to stay relevant, and BMW says it is packed full of cool features that will be irresistible for those who like both sporty rear-wheel drive cars and practical load-luggers and want these two characteristics in one car.
2019 BMW 320d xDrive - driven
Whenever BMW launches an all-new 3-Series, this is a big deal on the sporty executive sedan scene. It’s like when Mercedes launches a new S-Class, only at the other end of the size scale. The new 2019 G20 BMW 3 Series promises a lot and I got to drive the grippy, frugal and very fast 320d xDrive for a few days to see if the model has reestablished itself as the class benchmark.
It is a bit bigger and also has different proportions compared to the outgoing 3-Series, the F30, and the visual changes really make it seem new and also stand out among other BMWs. The front part is unusually long, and you especially notice this from a side profile view mainly because the windscreen pillars are positioned quite far back. But this is not a negative point as it gives the car a lot of presence.
BMW has definitely managed to freshen it up a bit compared to the old model, and the same can be said of its interior which now feels far more contemporary than that of the F30. The interior is completely new, hardly anything has been carried over, and the result is a much more modern ambiance than what you felt in the old model which was really starting to feel... old.
In terms of driving experience, the new 3-Series does drive like the slightly bigger car than it is. In fact, you feel like you’re in a bigger car with that huge hood extending in front of you from the driver’s seat, but once you show it some corners, it’s definitely a 3-Series through its high level of agility and not the larger and slightly more comfort-oriented 5-Series.

The 2020 BMW 3 Series LWB Came To Shanghai With Its Sights Set On the Audi A4 L and Mercedes C-Class L
The BMW 3 Series has a long-wheelbase variant, and it’s only available in the Chinese market. The newest version of the stretched 3 Series is on display at Auto Shanghai 2019,proving yet again that, at least in China, stretched sedans are the business. The 3 Series LWB shares most of its features with the standard 3er. The only benefit is that it’s longer, which, in turn, provides more interior space for its owners, particularly those who would want to stretch their legs in the back seats. The long-wheelbase 3 Series will go on sale in China by the middle of the year, where it will compete with similar stretched models like the Mercedes C-Class L, Audi A4 L, and Jaguar XEL. Production will take place in the country through BMW’s partnership with China’s Brilliance Auto Group.

If You Want a New BMW 3 Series Sport Wagon, You Better Order One Now!
Unlike Prince Akeem, the new BMW 3 Series Sports Wagon is not coming to America. That’s the word from BMW itself after a spokesperson from BMW North America confirmed that the next-generation 3 Series Sports Wagon is not headed to the U.S. market. Simmer’s decision to skip on selling the 3 Series Sports Wagon in the U.S. ends the model’s 20-year run in America. BMW has sold the 3er wagon in the U.S. since the E46 generation, which lasted from 1998 to 2006 before making way for the E90 and F30 generations of the popular nameplate. But now that BMW has switched over to the all-new, G20 generation, the list of models available here in the U.S. will miss one staple. You can still buy a 3 Series Sport Wagon, but you’ll have to settle for the current-generation F30 model.
The Next Generation of BMWs Will Have Their Own Distinct Design
Following in the footsteps of Audi and Mercedes, BMW has adopted the ‘Russian Doll’ design; wherein every product basically looks the same. It feels like the cars have taken the ‘twinning’ concept way too seriously. For instance, it is hard to differentiate between the Audi A4, A6, and A8 if not for their lengths. And, this design approach is getting more and more common for brands. Maybe they use it as a ‘brand recall’ strategy, but it is getting out of hand. 2020 BMW M340i xDrive
Just before its official unveiling at the L.A. Auto Show, BMW released the first specifications about the best G20 3 Series revealed so far - the M340i xDrive. It is not an M3, but it is really, really close to being one. Actually, the M340i is the most powerful 3 Series ever revealed. Save for previous two generations of the M3.
Taking the G20 3 Series architecture to a level unachieved by any BMW 340i of before, the 2020 BMW M340i xDrive comes with a standard, electronically controlled, mechanical limited slip differential, a 382 horsepower engine, and specially tuned eight-speed transmission with Launch Control.

BMW’s 3-Series Gran Turismo is the other practical variant in the 3-Series lineup for those who don’t want to buy the wagon. It actually has more carrying capacity than the load lugger, and unmatched passenger room, as well as a hatchback design, so you can load big items into the back fairly easily.
It’s really the amount of interior space that impresses in the 3 GT, a car that is nowhere near as popular as it should be because, from my experience with it, there’s actually a lot to like, and it has a bit of a lovable character. Comfort levels are very high, especially if you avoid the harder suspension of the M sport pack (which apparently ruins the ride quality), and opt for the standard setup with adaptive dampers - it is the most comfortable 3-Series you can buy by quite some margin.
Design and styling may not be to everybody’s taste, certainly, but the fact that it has a bit of extra ground clearance over a regular 3-Series and the fact that it’s slightly taller overall, doesn’t negatively affect the way it looks. I think that for a halfway model whose aim is to convince you not to buy an actual crossover or SUV, it looks more than adequate and for some reason better in person than the 6-Series Gran Turismo - its larger and more expensive 5-Series-based brother.
In the 330i xDrive Luxury spec I tested, it was motivated by a turbocharged four-cylinder which is easily powerful enough for lively acceleration and not terrible on fuel. I wouldn’t call it explicitly sporty, but it is miles better to throw around a twisty road than, say, the BMW X3, which just feels tall and cumbersome by comparison.
BMW is probably not going to make a follow-up model for this 3 GT, due to its low appeal in these crossover crazed times. That means a few years down the line it will be even less of a common sight so as time progresses people may start looking for these as a rare, slightly oddball model, but one with excellent daily driver credentials.
2020 BMW 3 Series Touring
If you want a bit more practicality than the new 2020 BMW 3-Series sedan can offer, then the logical step is the even newer 2020 3-Series Touring. As with previous incarnations of the model, it promises the same sporty drive as the three-box sedan, but with a bit more family friendly practicality and a bigger trunk to fit more stuff into.
The all-new G21 3-Series Touring looks noticeably more imposing than the car it replaces. This is a byproduct of its even longer nose and A-pillars that have been pushed further back. Its front and rear fascias are considerably more modern than those of the F31 which in turn weren’t hugely different to the E90 model before that; in other words, the visual difference between the F31 and the new G21 is far bigger than the one noted from E91 to F31.
The same can be said of the new G21’s interior compared to that of the F31 (whose interior had really started to look dated over the past few years). It is not only more modern and packed with fresh features, but perceived quality has been improved too - overall, it’s a much nicer place to sit and since this is a review of the wagon variant of the new 3-Series, you’ll be happy to note that practicality has been enhanced too.

It Looks Like BMW May Offer the M3 With a Manual Transmission After All
The new BMW M3 is on its way, as confirmed in a recent rash of spy shots that show the Bavarian rocket ship out for a spot of testing at the Nürburgring. For now, though, specifics aren’t quite nailed down, with the question of two pedals or three providing one of the biggest question marks of them all. Luckily for those of us who prefer a manual, it’s looking like Bimmer isn’t quite ready to ditch the stick shift.
The brand-new BMW 3 Series is arguably one of the most important launches at this year’s Paris Motor Show. The German compact executive sedan flexes its muscles in a class defined by the decades-old rivalry with Mercedes and Audi. The latter presents itself with the A4 which was launched two years ago but will undergo a subtle facelift for the 2019 model year.
BMW’s legendary 3 Series gets a seventh generation for 2019. Known as the G20, next year’s car has a new platform, is bigger all round and features bold styling even with the lower trim line option. BMW says it is sportier than the previous generations, but purists already lament the lack of a manual transmission.
The Audi, in comparison, is a car that’s already reached the mid-point of its production cycle. The styling is more conservative, consistent with Audi’s decision over the past few years to not introduce particularly eye-catching design cues. As such, the BMW might be the one you notice first, but the longer Audi shouldn’t be ruled out from the get-go.

BMW is Killing the BMW 3 Series GT but We Refuse to Let it Go With a New Rendering
BMW is reportedly going to kill off the 3-Series Gran Turismo, the more practical, slightly taller, longer, and roomier hatchback version of BMW’s bread and butter sedan. Apparently, there is no longer a justification to make a new one as its slot in the range will be filled by new SUV models.

Unveiled at the 2018 Paris Motor Show, the G20 is the seventh generation of the iconic BMW 3 Series. It replaces the seven-year-old F30 model and introduces a new design language, state-of-the-art technology, and updated engines.
Borrowing features seen on recently introduced models like the 5 Series sedan and the X5 SUV, the 3 Series looks sportier than ever and it’s finally on par with its competitors in the technology department. It continues to feature four- and six-cylinder engines, but for the time being there aren’t any diesels to pick from. However, BMW confirmed that both oil burners and hybrids are underway. Just as the hype was dying down after the 2019 BMW 3 Series’ launch at the Paris Motor Show, BMW has reignited interest in its latest new model. As per a report from L’Automobile Magazine, the German automaker will be unveiling 3 Series Touring at the Geneva Motor Show in March of next year. Actually, it’s not that much of a surprise because the touring has been sold for almost as long as the sedan.

BMW has unveiled the seventh generation 3 Series, signaling a new era for the company’s iconic compact luxury sedan. The new 3 Series is a lot bigger than its predecessor, effectively questioning why we still call it a compact sedan. There’s nothing “compact” about the new 3 Series. Not only is it larger than any 3 Series on record, but it’s also lighter, more powerful, and filled to the brim with a lot of interesting tech features. At launch, the new 3 Series will be available in 330i and 340i trim levels. More versions, including the next-generation M3, will become available in the future. Pricing for the new 3 Series starts at $41,245.

Believe It or Not, the 2019 BMW 3 Series is Bigger than an E39 5 Series
Last week, BMW removed the silk covers from the all-new BMW 3 Series G20. It is possibly the most important car revealed at the Paris Motor Show and definitely the most important car BMW revealed in the last three or so years. Yet, even on the photographs, one could definitely see that the 3 Series grew quite a bit. BMW reported a 2.9 inches increase in length. When I was working on that BMW 3 Series piece I was wondering just how big the new 3 Series really is.
The answer surprised me. The new BMW 3 Series G20 is bigger than the BMW 5 Series E39. Ok, not exactly longer, but I’ll get to that in a jiffy. Considering the E39 is basically my favorite car, I was almost annoyed, but then reason took over. I asked myself, how did we become so strangely obsessed with size and getting things bigger?

We enthusiasts are hungry people. Even greedy at times. Now that the new BMW 3 Series has finally been revealed, we can begin speculating about the 4 Series and the updates it will receive. BMW is already working on the new 4 Series, as spy shots of the 4 Series convertible with a soft top in heavy camouflage were captured. Even though they hardly revealed anything, it was enough to conclude that there will be a lot design-sharing with the 3 Series. However, now we have a rendering of the hard-top coupe, and we must say it looks delicious.

Whenever BMW launches an all-new 3-Series, the entire automotive world stops and turns its attention to it. This all-new generation, bearing the G20 internal code name, has officially bowed at the 2018 Paris motor show with fresh styling, an all-new interior, a larger wheelbase and the promise of improved driving dynamics.

Without further ado, here is the all-new 2019 BMW 3-Series G20, without any camouflage or obscured in any way. These configurator photos show the car from all angles, in various trims and give a detailed view of its completely redesigned interior complete with digital gauge cluster and new infotainment.
The BMW 3 Series is the German brand’s best-selling model with around 30-percent of the company’s sales being derived from it alone if you exclude motorcycles. It’s been in constant production since 1975 and served as a successor to the BMW 02 Series of way back when. Over the years, the 3 Series has gone through a total of six generational shifts with the seventh-generation model being introduced in 2018.
If you know anything about the history of the 3 Series, then you know that it has been offered in a number of different forms. It started life as a two-door sedan as BMW called it (it was really just a coupe) and that held true until the second-generation E30 model made its debut. By 1983, the four-door sedan came to life with the 3 Series convertible following suit in 1985 and the 3 Series Wagon debuting in 1987.
BMW has a funny way of justifying new models, and back in 2013, it decided it would differentiate its sedans from its coupes and convertibles. As such, the 3 Series is no longer offered as a coupe or convertible as those models are reserved for the 4 Series name. In its current form, the 3 Series is sportier than ever, but with this generation being introduced in 2018, the model line is far from complete yet. For now, the only models you can get your hands on are the entry-level 330i and the M340i, both of which can be had with xDrive AWD, and the latter of which borrows some M DNA but is far from a budget M3.
The 330i is powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that’s good for 255 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. The M340i has a larger, 3.0-liter inline-six that’s good for 382 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. Pricing for the 330i starts out at $40,750 while the M340i commands $54,000. Add $2,000 to the base price of either for xDrive AWD and expect the full-fledged BMW M3 to run somewhere in the area of $63,000 when it launches sometime in early-to-mid 2020.
