This mid-level performance crossover is the perfect blend of performance and luxury
The Macan S sits in the sweet spot of the Macan range. The updated 2.9-liter twin-turbo engine blends with Porsche’s handling wizardry to bring performance and handling so close to that of the Porsche 911 that you won’t believe it. But is it enough if to be relevant in a world where it must compete with cars like the BMW X4, Audi SQ5, and the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio? Let’s dive in.

The Gas-Powered Macan Won’t Survive Beyond Its 10th Birthday
We’ve come a long way from the original idea that the 2021 Porsche Macan would only be offered with an all-electric powertrain. That was the story in 2019, which quickly turned into word that the next-gen Macan would be all-electric but would be sold alongside the current Macan– something we called “Porsche’s dual-Macan strategy.” Now, it seems there’s even more to the story, and you might not like what you’re about to read.
2022 Porsche Macan
The Porsche Macan has been on the market since 2014. Following a revamp in 2018, Porsche has reworked the Macan once again to make it ready for life alongside an all-new electric model that will shortly join it. With its second facelift, the combustion engine model is buying more time. The upcoming Electric Macan will be the first vehicle to be constructed on the Audi and Porsche PPE (premium electric platform).
The Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio Takes On the BMW X4M Competition And Porsche Macan In An Epic Throwdown
Compact SUVs are the hottest selling vehicles today across the price segments. Almost every mainstream automaker has a compact SUV in its lineup that’s doing pretty well for it. If you’re ready to spend big bucks on a compact SUV, you can get some pretty hot machines. The folks at Carwow brought three such SUVs to a drag strip and put them in a series of races. These include two Germans – the BMW X4M Competition and the Porsche Macan Turbo, and an Italian – the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio.
The Porsche Macan EV Might Not Be A Macan At All
Things escalated quickly between 2019 and 2020 over at Porsche, with the former bring news that the 2021 Porsche Macan will only be offered with an all-electric drivetrain. Of course, 2021 is here, and guess what? The electric Macan doesn’t even exist outside of Porsche’s walls. That’s because in early 2020, we learned that Porsche was thinking about a “double Macan” strategy in which it will update the current-gen Macan to sell alongside the next-gen electric Macan. It’s good news for those that don’t want to make the transition to electric go juice, but it also means the next-gen Macan had to be delayed. Now we’ve learned something new, and it seems that the Macan EV might not be a Macan at all. Wait… what?
New Spy Shots Confirm Porsche’s Secret Macan Project
A few years ago there were rumors that Porsche was working on a hybrid version of the Macan. With the first-gen crossover near the end of its life-cycle, it seems that the Germans are switching to an all-electric layout. The next-gen Macan was spotted testing on public roads, and even though it doesn’t look radically different, it has nothing in common with the old model under the skin.
Porsche Is Preparing Another Facelift For The Recently Updated Macan
The first-generation Porsche Macan was launched in 2014, which means that it’s six years old as of 2020. Given that modern car life cycles take five to six years, it’s about time for a redesign. But it seems Porsche wants to keep the current Macan on the market a while longer. At least that’s what a set of new spy shots we just received suggest.
Porsche Macan EV Timetable – Everything is Changing
The Porsche Macan’s timeline isn’t written in stone and seems to be changing so frequently that it’s hard to keep up with. Back in March of 2019, we heard that the next-gen 2021 Macan would be offered as an EV only. Then, news about the Macan EV pretty much dried up until February 2020 when we learned that Porsche would sell the current-gen Macan (in facelifted form) alongside the next-gen Macan EV. A new report, coming directly from Germany, says Porsche is considering the bravest move it’s made since it almost replaced the 911 with the 928.
Porsche’s Dual-Macan Strategy Is About More Than Easing the Shift Into Electrification
When the current Porsche Macan makes its generational shift in 2022 or 2023, it was originally expected to make the shift into EV territory as well. The original “plan” was for the next-gen Macan to be offered only as an EV and ditch the ICE altogether. All that has apparently changed, at least to some extent, if a new report is to be believed. Let us introduce you to the dual-Macan Strategy.
Porsche has released the all-new Porsche Macan GTS after a short hiatus, and this time around it pushes things to the next level with a more powerful engine, reworked chassis, and exterior features that make it standout in the pack.
On the outside, the Macan GTS features new front and rear fascias, new side skirts, and a handful of black trim pieces for extra flare. On top of this, you’ll be able to spot the new GTS by the 20-inch RS Spyder Design wheels which are, you guessed it, dressed in Satin Black. On the inside, you’ll find plenty of Alcantara, including on
The seat center inserts Center console armrests Door trim panelsYou can also opt for the GTS interior package that includes leather and accent stitching in Carmine Red or Chalk. The multifunction sport steering wheel can also be had here, and it’s actually exclusive for the Macan GTS, if you can believe that.
The big news here is the 2.9-liter V-6 under the hood. It delivers a cool 375 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque – that accounts for an extra 15 ponies over the previous model. It’s also enough for a 4.7-second sprint to 60 mph and a top speed of 162 mph. Adaptive air suspension is also available and, with it, the suspension will be lowered by 0.39 inches (10 mm.) Pricing for the Macan GTS starts at $71,300 and you’ll be able to get your hands on one starting in summer of 2020.
The Porsche Macan took another
inspired update for 2019, ushering in a mid-cycle facelift worthy of the brand name. The front end received heavy revisions, including updated corner vents and an updated grille. The daytime running lights were even lowered too, a move that somehow makes the front end sportier than before. Those quad LED headlights come standard on all models while the new apron is more aggressive than before – a nice touch to say the least. The rear end even took on a new diffuser-like element, if that’s what you would call this better-side-of-bland fascia insert. The interior even took new updates, including a larger infotainment screen and a new steering wheel, while the chassis even saw some updates for better driving dynamics. In the end, the 2019 Macan is a gorgeous piece of German engineering, so we decided to make it our wallpaper of the day. We’ve included a pretty awesome hand-picked example below, but we also have a sizable gallery that’s free for the taking as well. Go ahead and knock yourself out!
The 2020 Porsche Macan Turbo is Mean as Hell With a Cayenne Heart
Having updated the first-generation Macan after five years on the market, Porsche unveiled a revised version of the Turbo model for the 2020 model year. The refreshed Turbo remains heavily based on the regular Macan, but Porsche made big changes under the hood, replacing the old 3.6-liter V-6 with a smaller 2.9-liter unit. While it’s not the most powerful Macan ever produced, it’s definitely the quickest. Let’s find out why.
Wallpaper of the Day: 2020 Porsche Macan S
The Macan might be a small Porsche SUV but it still shares at least small amount of Porsche 911 DNA. For 2020, Porsche has completed its mid-cycle update to the Macan lineup by introducing the latest styling over to the Macan S. Of course, not a lot changed on the outside, but the S now comes with some extra power and a little less weight – two things anyone can get behind. Along with the release of the new Macan S, we managed to get our hands on a nice allotment of fresh wallpapers, so we figured we should give it some on-screen love and feature the new Macan S as our wallpaper for the day. We’ve showcased our favorite wall paper down below but have also attached a gallery to the bottom of this page with other great shots of the 2020 Porsche Macan S.
2020 Porsche Macan S
The company’s smallest crossover yet, the Porsche Macan arrived in 2014 and slotted under the highly popular Cayenne. After four years on the market, the compact SUV was updated to mid-cycle specifications. The Macan S is very similar to the base model we saw hit the spotlight earlier in 2018 on the outside. It’s identical inside the cabin as well save for the trim-specific features. However, it’s a different story under the hood, as the "S" badge comes in tow with a larger, 3.0-liter V-6. What’s more, while the four-banger lost a few horses with the facelift, the V-6 delivers a bit more power and torque.
Update 03/14/2019: We’ve updated this review with fresh images of the 2019 Porsche Macan S that we took during the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. Check them out in the gallery at the bottom of this page!
The 2021 Porsche Macan Will Only Be Offered with an All-Electric Drivetrain
The Porsche Macan, the same model that is currently offered with four- and six-cylinder engines, will officially be offered as an electric model when the new-generation makes its debut in 2021. You read that right, the Porsche Taycan isn’t even technically on the market yet, and Porsche is already committed to turning one of its most popular models into EV territory. And, that’s not a rumor- the cam directly from Porsche itself. The most logical reason behind this is because BMW is set to unleash the BMW iX3 soon and, since the Macan battles it out with the X3, it only makes sense. As of now, there are no plans to offer any type of fuel-powered drivetrain, so the Macan will become Porsche’s third EV next to the 2020 Taycan and the 2021 Taycan Sport Turismo wagon.
Porsche’s Design Division Gets Its Hands On The Latest Macan S
All of you must have heard of Porsche’s in-house design division unless you are living under the rock. Known as Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur, it became famous for working on the pre-facelift version of the Macan Turbo last year. Moniker’d as the Macan Turbo Exclusive Performance Edition, Porsche priced it at €166,091 ($190,492) – more than twice the price of two entry-level Macans. Now, the new Macan S is going under the Porsche Exclusive Knife.
7 Best Used Compact SUVs from 2016
Compact SUVs are the way to go these days. They are neither bulky like ladder-on-frame SUVs nor nimble like soon-to-be-extinct sedans. Compact SUVs are targeted to people from all walks of life; a performance SUV for the young-blood, a spacious SUV for families, and so on. Even the price bracket is huge. In this list, we have listed the best compact SUVs from 2016 that you can purchase on the used market.
2020 Porsche Macan S: New Engine, More Power, Same Sexy Appearance
The Porsche Macan often gets overshadowed by its bigger and more accomplished brother, the Porsche Cayenne. But, that’s about to change because the new Macan S breaks the crossover out of its shell. Not only is the 2019 Macan S sexier, but it also packs a new engine that produces more power than its predecessor. Those three elements are the biggest highlights of the new Macan S, underscoring what we’ve all been waiting for from the model since it first arrived in 2014. Put together; the new Macan S sheds its rough-around-the-edges label in favor of a more balanced ride. Don’t look now, but it appears that Porsche’s entry-level crossover is ready for the big leagues. The new Porsche Macan S starts at $58,600.
The All-New Euro-Spec 2019 Porsche Macan Revealed in Paris
Porsche has released the technical specifications of the Euro-sped 2019 Macan today at the Paris Motor Show. Even though the crossover was showcased a couple of months back, the Stuttgart marquee had not revealed any information about it for the European market. The Euro-spec edition comes with changes all around and a new engine as well.
10 Best Handling Crossovers on the Market
Crossovers are vehicles designed to look like they can go off-road, but really be at their best on the road. Sure, some can do light off-roading, but realistically you won’t want to stray too far from the blacktop or the occasional bumpy gravel backroad.
To this end it’s not trivial to know which of these 4x4-aping high riders are best out on the open (and sometimes twisty) road, since it’s where they will spend most of their time. But don’t go thinking that they are on par with more conventional car shapes, because their higher center of gravity and usually higher mass will affect handling.
Safety is at the top of buyers’ lists these days, but what many don’t think about when browsing lists of cars rated with safety stars is that good, predictable road manners and sharp handling are one of the biggest safety features a car can have, since they allow the driver to avoid crashing in the first place.
And while crossovers may give occupants a feeling of extra safety when they’re on board, their poor road manners bring this into question.
Here’s a list of the 10 best handling high-riding vehicles ever made.
2019 Porsche Macan
Introduced in 2014, the Porsche Macan is the company’s second SUV. Slotted below the popular Cayenne, it’s also Porsche’s smallest crossover yet. The German firm updated the Macan for the 2019 model year, calling it a second-generation model.
When Porsche decided to step into the SUV segment with the Cayenne, Porsche purists weren’t all that happy, expecting the brand to soldier on with different 911 variants until times end. But, the Cayenne turned out to be a huge success, and the German brand decided to come out with a compact model named the Macan. While not as popular as the Cayenne, the Macan was also met with great enthusiasm. Porsche delivered more than 350,000 units from 2014 until 2018, with more than 25 percent of them shipped to China. As a result, the Germans paid big attention to this upgrade and made significant changes inside and out. Unfortunately, those of you who expected more powerful engines will be disappointed. But more on that in the review below.

Porsche Macan Gains 911 Looks, More Equipment
Introduced in 2014 as a smaller alternative to the already iconic Cayenne, the Porsche Macan is a sales success with more than 350,000 units delivered in four years. The German manufacturer is now looking to add to the momentum with a mid-cycle update that makes the crossover sportier than ever before and adds new equipment inside the cabin.
Watch the Porsche Macan Get Dirty During High-Altitude Testing
The Porsche Macan has been in our lives since 2014, and it’s proven to be a wallop for the German automaker. More than 350,000 examples of the baby SUV has sold since it hit the road four years ago, and now, the facelifted model is making its own waves after being captured in camouflaged form in Lesotho as its underbody got acquainted with the salts of the earth at heights reaching 3,400 meters (11,155 feet) above sea level.
What’s Under the Hood of the 2019 Porsche Macan? It’s not a Diesel, That’s for Sure
The Porsche Macan is about to go through a mid-life cycle facelift, and one of the biggest changes to the model is the complete elimination of diesel engines and the addition of new and updated gas engines. The table of engine options are the biggest changes to the facelifted Macan, but they’re also complemented by updates on the exterior, chassis, and suspension.
The Porsche Macan GTS may be slotted between the Macan S and Macan Turbo in terms of pricing, and power, but its track-focused looks, impressive performance characteristics, and all-around hyped-up looks will likely make the GTS the most desirable of the Macan trim levels. And, now, you can have it on your desktop.
2020 Porsche Macan GT3 RS
“GT3 RS” is a unique series letters that carries a whole lotta weight when it comes to the Stuttgart faithful. This is the label used for Porsche’s homologation efforts, harkening back to 911’s of old where speed potential and track readiness were maximized for the ultimate in mean-machine German street offerings. Less weight through extensive use of composite materials and plastic windows, bigger, purposeful aerodynamic enhancements, wider, grippier tires, and of course, an extra splash of power are all expected when those five little letters are in play. Whether it’s prowling the highways or attacking the Karussell at the Nurburgring, the GT3 RS is not to be trifled with. Which makes it a strange thing to see when it’s plastered on a tall-bodied SUV, no? How could such a thing exist without diluting the nameplate for future hardcore models?
That’s a difficult question to answer, but Porsche certainly isn’t afraid to ask it. After all, this is the same company that brought us the Cayenne, considered to be one of the first in a wave of performance SUVs to hit the U.S. in the past decade and a half. What’s more, the competition has caught scent as well. Consider such outrageous creations as the Range Rover Sport SVR, Mercedes-AMG GLE63, and Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. In company like this, why not make a hell-bent, track-ready, monster Macan?

Porsche Showcases The Personalization Potential Of The Macan
Of all the cars in Porsche’s current lineup, the Porsche Macan is the one model that’s still searching for an identity. That’s not a dig at the crossover; it is, rather, a product of circumstance given that it’s one of the newest models in the company’s lineup. But just because the Macan doesn’t have the status of the 911 or the popularity of the Cayenne doesn’t mean that it can’t score a taste of the high side of personalization, as this particular Macan example is proudly showing us.
To be clear, this isn’t a one-off, exclusive take on the Macan. It’s not even a special edition model. Rather, it’s an example of what Porsche is able to do with its baby crossover should a customer want to really dive deep into personalization. It’s based on the Macan Turbo and is decked all around with Porsche’s Performance Package, hence the sportier appearance. It also gets a unique livery that touches on Porsche’s racing history. Think the Macan already looks good dressed in all black? How about a two-tone color scheme with the other half of the body in white and throw in red and silver racing stripes for good measure? I can’t say that this kind of personalized treatment will be universally accepted, but as far as Porsche is concerned, this example isn’t as important as the message it’s conveying, which is to say that Porsche is open for your Macan personalization needs.

2016 Porsche Macan Turbo By Wimmer RS
The Porsche Macan’s introduction in 2013 signalled a renewed commitment from the German automaker to double down on its SUV offerings after the incredible success generated by the Cayenne. A few years later and the Macan has already established a presence of its own, one that has gotten the attention of aftermarket tuners all over the world. One aftermarket specialist that has definitely taken a liking to the Macan Turbo is Wimmer Rennsporttechik, which is now offering a tuning program for the Porsche crossover in partnership with fellow tuner Schmidt Revolution. The result is a two-prong kit defined by a new set of wheels and an engine upgrade that nets an output of 434 horsepower and 472 pound-feet of torque.
In truth, the this program is a simple and subtle one. There are no exterior or interior upgrades. It doesn’t even have any modifications on the chassis and suspension. It’s a straightforward engine-and-wheel upgrade that isn’t going to suspend anybody’s disbelief. But for what it’s worth, Wimmer worked on giving the Macan Turbo an added shot of power, which is what the aftermarket tuning scene is largely about anyway. And together with Schmidt Revolution’s new set of wheels, prospective customers will get some benefits out of this upgrade, provided they don’t expect anything outlandish to come out of it.
If those are the expectations, then prepare to be disappointed. But if it’s an extra layer of refinement that’s needed, Wimmer’s program for the Porsche Macan Turbo fits that bill to a tee.

2017 Porsche Macan Turbo with Performance Package
The Porsche Macan came to be in 2014 and arrived in dealerships as the company’s second SUV, after the Cayenne. Aimed at the luxury compact crossover market, the Macan is Porsche’s answer to the BMW X3 and Audi Q5, sharing the same platform with the latter. Produced alongside the Cayenne and Panamera in Leipzig, the Macan is available in many drivetrain configurations. The range begins with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder model, the first in the modern era before the Cayman and Boxster received their new flat-four mills, while the S and GTS feature 3.0-liter V-6 units. Porsche also offers a diesel powered by a V-6, while the Turbo gets a larger 3.6-liter V-6. Come 2016 and the Germans introduced a new range-topping model, called the Performance Package.
Based on the Turbo model, the Performance Package is the most powerful Macan to date and also comes with a number of unique features inside and out. Besides a more powerful version of the twin-turbo, 3.6-liter V-6 unit, it also sports an updated chassis with an enhanced braking system and a sport exhaust system. There’s no word as to whether the Performance Package is limited-edition only or will become a permanent member of the Macan lineup, but the good news is that it’s available in the United States. Granted, it’s name is rather uninspired when Porsche could have used the Turbo S moniker, but who are we to argue company naming and marketing schemes.
Bottom line is, Porsche has a bonkers crossover for its customers at a time when no other automaker is able to offer a similar vehicle with more than 400 horsepower. Touché, pussycat!

2015 - 2017 Porsche Macan
The Macan was launched in 2014 and became Porsche’s second production crossover and smallest SUV. Based on the same MLB platform underpinning the Audi Q5, the Macan was launched with a range of gasoline and diesel V-6 engines. Later on, it also received a 2.0-liter four-cylinder unit, become the first modern-day Porsche to use a four-banger.
Remember when Porsche released the Cayenne? Remember all the people in their Porsche owners club shirts sitting around and telling you about how this new SUV was a disgrace to the Porsche logo and that all the company should design and produce are 911 variants? Well, the Cayenne turned out to be a real success, so the company decided to further expand its SUV lineup with the addition of a new model placed under the midsize SUV.
After being tested for a very long time, the new Macan made its world debut at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show. Initially, the model was rumored to be called "Cajun," but Porsche opted for "Macan" – a name coming from the Indonesian word for tiger. According to Porsche, the name symbolizes the Macan as a model that is "powerful and ready to pounce at any time, yet light-footed and tenacious on off-road terrain."
Initially, the Macan was only offered in “Turbo” and “S” form here in the U.S., but eventually, the Macan GTS was made available as well. In 2016, Porsche expanded the Macan lineup even further with a new entry-level model.

Porsche Still Plans To Release Macan Diesel In The US Market
Volkswagen’s emissions cheating scandal has had far-reaching consequences for a lot of parties and the lingering effects have extended all the way to some of the conglomerate’s other auto brands. Porsche, for one, has already felt the pinch when it was forced to pull the Porsche Cayenne Diesel from the U.S. market in late 2015 even though the SUV had gained a lot of traction in the market. That wasn’t the case for the Macan Diesel, which was supposed to have already made its debut in the U.S. But, in the wake of that scandal, Porsche opted to hold off on the Macan Diesel’s U.S. debut.
That has put Porsche Cars North America in a precarious position. The company had high hopes for the Macan Diesel as a lower-cost alternative to its Cayenne counterpart. But with the scandal still in the minds of a lot of people, there’s been some uncertainty within Porsche on when the crossover will be offered in the U.S. market. Speaking with Automotive News, Porsche Cars NA CEO Klaus Zellmer indicated that the company still has plans of bringing the Macan Diesel to the U.S. market. That’s still set in stone.
What isn’t set in stone is the timetable, something Zellmer admitted is a tricky thing to navigate given the steps the company needs to take before the model can be sold in the US. That’s going to take some time considering that Porsche still has to work things out with the proper authorities and do the necessary repairs on the models to make them up-to-stuff (legally) in the market.
The good news is that this isn’t an “if” question, but a “when” question. Porsche has every intention of releasing the Macan Diesel in the U.S. Zellmer even said that customer feedback on the Cayenne Diesel has been overwhelmingly positive and that a lot of customers were disappointed to see the SUV removed from the market.

Among the funky concepts and interestingly boxy designs at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show is this, the 2017 Porsche Macan GTS. Slotted between the “base” Macan S and the range-topping Macan Turbo, the GTS offers a sweet spot of horsepower and torque paired with the Turbo’s transmission and AWD system. Sporty looks and a decreased ride height further push the GTS towards the track star Porsche needs to fight rivals from Audi and Mercedes.
Powered by the familiar 3.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V-6 found in the Macan S, the GTS gets an extra 20 horsepower and 30 extra pound-feet of torque. The seven-speed, dual-clutch PDK transmission and Porsche’s traction Management system are employed to help get power to the ground. Porsche even offers an optional Torque Vectoring System.
An initial glance at the stats, and the GTS seems very promising.
Porsche claims the GTS will hit 60 mph in five seconds, while the Sport Chrono Package knocks two-tenths off that time. Its top speed is listed at 159 mph. Promising indeed.
Of course, there’s more to the Macan GTS than just its performance stats. Still, it appears Porsche focused the crossover’s entire existence into a more track-ready machine. Black accents match its black wheels, helping to further visually lower the GTS’ center of gravity. A sport exhaust system announces its presence, while an Alcantara and leather-lined interior with exclusive GTS seats coddle all five passengers.
The Macan GTS is set to arrive at dealers in March 2016 with a base price of $67,200.
Updated 10/30/2015: Porsche dropped a new video in which its highlights the sports exhaust system in the new Macan GTS. Enjoy!

Porsche just dropped details on the new Macan GTS, officially filling the gap between the Macan S and the Macan Turbo.
The sporty compact luxury crossover gets standout styling thanks to black exterior accents front to back, including high-gloss window trim and matte strips for the lower profile and rear. Standard equipment includes 20-inch RS Spyder Design wheels finished in Satin Black, while options include LED headlights with Porsche’s signature four-point DRLs.
Inside, you’ll find leather upholstery, bolstered sports seats with Alcantara centers, and GTS logos on the headrests. Interior packages include red accents for the tachometer, stitching, and seatbelts. An eight-speaker sound system, USB and auxiliary inputs, SiriusXM radio, and Bluetooth connectivity all come standard. Navigation is optional, while Apple CarPlay and a Wi-Fi hotspot are also available.
Now for the important stuff. Powering the Macan GTS is the same twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6 found in the S model, but output sees a jump to 360 horsepower (up from 340 horsepower) and 369 pound-feet of torque (up from 339 pound-feet). Power is routed to all four wheels via a seven-speed PDK transmission. When equipped with the optional Sport Chrono Package, 0-to-60 mph is achieved in 4.8 seconds, while top speed is rated at 159 mph.
Slowing it down are 360 mm (14.17-inch) rotors up front and 330 mm (12.99-inch) rotors in back. Handling the heft is adjustable air suspension, which drops the ride height by 10 mm (0.39 inch) next to the Macan Turbo. You’ll also find the Macan GTS offered with a variety of branded go-faster acronyms, both standard and optional. These include Porsche Traction Management (PTM), Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV), and Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM)
The 2017 Macan GTS will be made available next March. Pricing starts at $67,200.
Porsche has just released a glorious video showing off its GTS lineup of performance vehicles that currently includes the Boxster, Cayman, 911, Panamera and Cayenne. While we love seeing these souped-up GTS Porsches in action, the real reason for this 78-second GTS cheerleading footage is most likely a primer for the arrival of the Macan GTS. Porsche did not say when the Macan GTS will debut, but it will probably arrive later this year for the 2016 model year.
The Macan GTS was confirmed back in March as part of an annual report on expected developments that listed the trim level as a new arrival in 2015, along with many other upcoming models from Volkswagen Group brands. This was the same announcement where Porsche confirmed the 2016 Boxster Spyder, Cayman GT4, 911 GT3 RS and 911 Targa 4 GTS.
As far as what changes should be expected to a GTS version of the Macan, Porsche is remaining mum on the details. On other models, GTS trim levels generally receive improved handling, styling and engine output, but this latter aspect will probably be the biggest news for the new model. The current Macan lineup consists of the 340-horsepower Macan S and the 400-horsepower Macan Turbo, and no other Porsche GTS stands as the top trim level. On the Boxster and Cayman, the GTS slots below the Spyder and GT4, respectively, while the 911, Panamera and Cayenne position the GTS just below the Turbo model.
Check out the Porsche GTS video above, and stay tuned later this year (possibly L.A. Auto Show) for the 2016 Porsche Macan GTS.
Porsche’s problems concerning the availability of the Macan started since the crossover was launched in 2014, but certain markets have had it much worse than others. Following a promise it made in early 2015, Porsche will increase its U.S. allocation for the Macan, and extra cars will begin to arrive in May.
"We do not want to continue to have a situation where we have a waiting list of five to six months," Porsche Cars North America CEO Detlev von Platen told Automotive News. "This is the reason we have decided to jump on the allocation for the United States and increase this for this year." Even though Porsche managed to sell 9,841 Macans in the U.S. since the model went on sale in May 2014, Van Platen has said that the demand is closer to 18,000 cars annually, the reason behind the long waiting lists.
This is not good news for everyone though, as the extra cars that will now go to the U.S. market will be shifted from others, albeit Porsche Cars NA did not disclose which markets will lose their allocations. The huge Macan demand has translated into Porsche reaching its goal of 50,000 cars sold annually in the U.S. four years earlier than it had originally prefigured. A number of North American dealerships have said that they can’t even keep one Macan as a demo car per dealer, since customers want them so badly.

Porsche models are arguably some of the most factory-customizable vehicles on the market, but that didn’t stop the Germans from introducing a range of new options for the Panamera sedan and the Cayenne and Macan crossovers. The new features are offered via Porsche Exclusive, the division responsible for a wide array of bespoke models ranging from the Boxster to the Cayenne, and the list includes enhancements for both the exterior and the cabin, as well as a new exhaust system.
The biggest news here is the availability of the Porsche Rear Seat Entertainment system for all Panamera models. The feature that debuted in the Panamera Turbo S Exclusive Series, a limited-edition, U.S.-spec sedan built in only 100 units, adds two high-resolution 10.1-inch color touchscreen displays in the front-seat backrests. An integrated DVD player, two USB ports, an SD card slot and an HDMI port provide connection to a wide range of devices, while an integrated camera allows video telephony. The entertainment system also features internet connectivity and mobile access. The system will retail from €3,082.10 (around $3,234 as of 03/13/2015) in Germany.

Launched in late 2013 for the 2014 model year, the brand-new Macan received the love it deserves from Porsche Exclusive a few months after reaching U.S. and European dealerships. In case you missed it, I’m talking about this Sapphire Blue Metallic-painted crossover that proves the Macan is as customizable as any other Porsche. Come 2015, the Macan is already waging war against the BMW X3 and Audi Q5 on roads the world over. The folks over at Porsche Exclusive turned to the Turbo model to showcase their wares.
The scenario is pretty much the same. The crossover is wrapped in a bespoke color that’s not available as standard, while the exterior and the interior have several goodies, ranging from blackened body parts to carbon-fiber inserts to a sporty instrument cluster. However, the presence of the turbocharged V-6 engine with its massive output under the hood makes this Porsche Exclusive Macan a more enticing alternative to the blue Macan S we saw back in 2014.

Not quite unexpectedly, Porsche’s new Macan has been an overwhelming success for the German carmaker, but you can’t have a picnic without inviting a few ants. Apparently, Porsche’s ants in the United States are ever-growing waiting lists for the midsize SUV, with customers having to wait at least six months after ordering their cars. Jumping in to help American dealers keep their customers, some Porsche executive have vowed to increase Macan supplies in 2015, so that buyers should get the ordered cars more quickly.
"We’re certainly pushing because it’s been a big success," said Joe Lawrence, COO of Porsche Cars North America, quoted by Automotive News during a Porsche meeting in San Francisco. "We’re having some issues with customers having to wait longer than we’d like, and we don’t want to lose those customers." On the other hand, Lawrence also mentioned that the Porsche factory in Leipzig is pretty much constrained at the moment, since there is a huge global demand for the model.
During the seven months of 2014 that the Macan was available in the United States, Porsche managed to sell 7,241 units and would have probably increased that number if dealers had been better supplied. To give you a better picture, seven months of Macan availability almost made Porsche North America reach its goal of 50,000 vehicles sold per year four years earlier than the original plan. Unfortunately, despite Porsche’s best intentions, the Macan’s production cannot be increased in the blink of an eye, especially since about a third of the car’s architecture is shared with the Audi Q5 and is dependent on different suppliers.

It is not the first time, nor will it be the last time that a car brand tries a novel marketing trick in order to draw in more customers, especially when we are talking about an all-new car without a predecessor. I would probably file the promotion gimmick in the video under "cute," since it is funny but not exactly hilarious.
In short, part of the 2015 Macan’s introduction in the United states, Porsche teamed up with Thinkingbox and created a so-called "Magic Mirror" in Los Angeles. In theory, this mirror will transform the reflection of any car that is driving by into a Porsche Macan. It is not exactly smoke and mirrors, at least not in the traditional "magician" sense, as the system is simply based on a few cameras, two large LCD or LED screens to act as the "mirrors" and motion-tracking software to tie everything together. It seems that the folks from Thinkinbox really know what they’re doing.
The result is, as I mentioned, cute, but the overall editing of the video makes it look a bit too staged for something that should appear as candid as possible. Either way, it seems that over the 10 days that the "magic mirror" was in the parking lot of a mall, no less than 900 drivers "got to see what it’s like to drive up in a new Porsche Macan."
As a refresher, the new Porsche Macan is the Cayenne’s baby brother and it was developed starting with the Audi Q5 as a base. Porsche expects to move quite a lot of them and outsell the Cayenne by a large margin after it reaches most markets, with the U.S. being the largest one. I can’t help but wonder what would have happened if someone had actually pulled up in a Porsche Macan in front of that mirror.

With 2014 coming to an end in just a couple of weeks, we figure now is as good a time as any to reflect on the outgoing year and check out the best new cars of the past 12 months. Times of reflection on the past — or in this case, the very near past — are always food for thought, as they provide a more objective angle of approach toward a certain subject.
As the automotive industry is obviously a global entity, we decided to pick 10 of the best new cars that were launched in 2014 all over the globe, based on the impact that each has had in its segment, respectively.
Considering the name and overall editorial direction of TopSped.com, one may expect the following list to be filled to the brim with supercars, sports cars and hypercars, but that would not be very constructive, would it now?

There’s been a lot of talk about Porsche’s rumored plans to develop a hybrid version of the 911. The rumor surfaced in early 2014 and brought the prospect of a sports car that could deliver around 700 ponies while being able to run on electric power for a limited amount of time. Better fuel efficiency was also on the table for a scenario that sounded exciting to say the least. However, it seems Porsche is in no hurry to build a 911 hybrid, at least not during the current generation’s lifetime.
According to Top Gear, which spoke to an unnamed Porsche spokesman, the Germans aren’t planning to bring plug-in technology to the 991-gen 911. With the current model having been introduced less than three years ago, a hybrid iteration is out of the question for at least three to four more years. What’s more, the company official added it’s unlikely for the generation that replaces the 991 to get it as well, which means another six to seven years without a plug-in 911. That’s not to say Porsche is ruling out a 911 hybrid, but it could be a possibility "within the next 15 years." If you’re still excited about that 911 hybrid, then you’re a very patient gearhead.
The 911 isn’t the only Porsche that’s not getting a hybrid drivetrain anytime soon. It seems a hybrid version of the Macan is out of the question as well, mainly because the hybrid powertrain motivating the Cayenne S E-Hybrid is too big for the crossover. The company is considering a more compact hybrid system, Porsche hybrid powertrain manager Manfred Shurmann told Top Gear, but "no development is taking place at the moment."
All told, Porsche’s hybrid lineup is set to continue with its three-car range, which includes the 918, Cayenne and Panamera, for the foreseeable future.

Porsche plans to expand the U.S.-spec Macan lineup, which was introduced 2015, to include a diesel-powered model for 2016. That’s the word from Auto News, who quotes vice president of marketing for Porsche Cars North America Andre Oosthuizen and adds that sales of the diesel Macan would begin in late 2015 or early 2016.
"We are now busy with the development and the engineering," Oosthuizen confirmed, adding that the U.S.-spec Macan’s 3.0-liter V-6 diesel engine will deliver about 245 horsepower. The Macan S Diesel cranks out 255 ponies at 4,000 rpm and a whopping 428 pound-feet of torque from 1,750 rpm in its Euro-spec guise.
Equipped with a PDK transmission and all-wheel-drive, the Macan S Diesel sprints from 0 to 62 mph in 6.3 seconds and hits a top speed of 143 mph. We expect the U.S.-spec model to boast the same top speed and a 0-to-60 mph benchmark of around 6.4 seconds. Naturally, the Macan Diesel will become the most fuel-efficient member of the U.S. Macan family, surpassing the S’ 23 mpg highway and 17 mpg combined by a significant margin. The U.S. unveiling is reportedly set at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show.
Asked whether or not Porsche is planning on bringing the four-cylinder Macan to the U.S. as well, Oosthuizen said the model is "not under consideration for the foreseeable future."

The folks over at Teknikens Värld are back in the news after an alarming review of a Porsche Macan S Diesel failing a moose test. If this rings any bells, we’d like to remind you that Teknikens Värld has had a history of “failed” moose tests, most notably on the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee back in July 2012. This time, test driver Linus Pröjtz performed the same test on the Macan S Diesel with strangely similar results as the Grand Cherokee.
During his test, Projtz noted that the Macan S Diesel’s left front wheel locked up during the move, which is designed to test the car’s maneuverability when the driver has to swerve because of a suddenly appearing obstacle. The locked wheel poses a problem because in real-life conditions, the Macan could veer into a different lane for a longer period of time. This increases the risk of an accident, which is obviously the last thing Porsche needs to happen to its brand new SUV.
Needless to say, Porsche issued a quick response to Projtz claims. According to the German automaker, the left front brake locked because the Macan’s Active Rollover Protection system engaged so the Macan doesn’t tip over to its side. It seems like a reasonable explanation, except that Porsche went into greater detail about how the system is supposed to work, adding that “the precise, momentary application of brake force to the front wheel at the outside of the bend down to the low slip range minimizes cornering forces to avoid critical or instable driving conditions such as oversteer, rollover or detachment of the tire from the wheel."
Judging by Teknikens Värld’s back-and-forth with Chrysler went after the 2012 Grand Cherokee’s moose test in July 2012, something tells me that this issue is far from over.
In today’s episode of “Car Company’s Gaining Sanity” it appears that Porsche will not be making a two-door version of its new Macan SUV. A new report from the Australian site Motoring claims that Porsche is in fact working on several new versions of the Macan from a Turbo S and GTS model all the way to a plug-in hybrid version like the Panamera S E-Hyrbid I just drove. This information comes from a spokesman for the brand named Paul Ellis.
According to Ellis, the Macan family will eventually grow to have the same number of members as the larger Cayenne. Despite these plans to grow, Ellis reiterated that there are no plans to drop 4WD and no plans for a two-door like the Range Rover Evoque. "All our SUVs are four-wheel drive," he said. "For me two-wheel drive is not an option.” He also stated “For us the Macan is [already] a coupe. It’s closer to the [BMW] X4 than X3. Evoque two-door is only 20 per cent [of sales].”
When it comes to those new models, Ellis was not willing to divulge details about the potential Turbo or GTS versions of the small SUV, but he did say that the PHEV version would use the exact same drivetrain that the other E-Hybrid models currently use. That means 416 horsepower, an EV range of around 15 miles and fuel economy that should crest the 30-mpg mark. Sounds pretty awesome.
That is all good news in my book. I am frankly quite tired of all these ridiculous SUVs that are not really SUVs. Porsche, I personally want to thank you for keeping your head on straight and staying away from obnoxious sales fads that water down your brand and performance image.

Some people see the infiltration of compact SUVs into the luxury realm as a bit of a waste. They are only marginally larger than hatchbacks, get worse fuel economy than most hatchbacks and simply aren’t as composed as most hot hatchbacks. But most people haven’t driven the BMW X4 and the all-new Porsche Macan; specifically, the Macan S Diesel and the X4 xDrive30d.
Steve Sutcliffe had the opportunity to not only test out both SUVs, but he also got a chance to test them out back-to-back. What’s more, Steve refrained from doing the typical "how fast does it go" test. Though he did get into straight-line speed, he also tested out their light off-road capabilities, roominess and handling.
The BMW X4 xDrive30d carries with it 258 horses, 560 Nm (413 pound-feet) of torque, a 0-to-62-mph time of 5.8 seconds and a 234-km/h (145-mph) top speed. The Porsche Macan S Diesel carries 258 horsepower, 580 Nm (428 pound-feet) of torque, a 0-to-62-mph sprint of 6.3 seconds and a 230-km/h (142-mph) top speed. On paper, it appears as if the X4 will trot to an easy victory, but Sutcliffe goes beyond paper to see if the X4 can hold up in real life too.

The Porsche Macan probably doesn’t need any more aesthetic upgrades; it already looks like a born and bred Porsche, right down to the subtle styling hints attributed to its big brother, the Cayenne. But who am I to tell Porsche what it can and can’t do, especially when it comes to offering new personalization options for its new crossover? The truth is, Porsche Exclusive’s new options for the Macan are added luxuries to the Macan. You don’t need it, but it’s nice to know that it’s being offered, you know, just in case you want to give your Macan a personalized touch.
Porsche Exclusive’s Sport Design package comes with a comprehensive list of upgrades, including lights and aero upgrades. New bi-xenon headlights are available, as are dark-colord LED rear lights, both of which are part of the Sport Design package. These lights come with the new Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS) and are matched with smoked LED rear taillights with their own dark red lenses.
A new front apron, side-sill panels, side blades, and a new lower rear bumper section are also being offered in case an owner wants a more dynamic-looking Macan. You can also opt to install a new set of 21-inch Sport Classic wheels that Porsche is offering in three color options and finish off your personalized Macan with a new sports exhaust system with modified silencers and a pair of stainless steel chrome-plated twin tailpipes.
Don’t worry. The Macan’s interior was also given its due attention. The Sport Design package features a new ’Limed Oak’ interior package that includes overlays to the decorative trim on the doors and instrument panel.
