The third-gen Cayenne has finally made it’s debut with slightly refreshed look and lots of goodies under the skin

Porsche has ushered in a third generation of the Porsche Cayenne, but before you get too excited, you should be aware of the fact that it looks quite a bit lot its predecessor. Now, this isn’t because Porsche was lazy. No. This is because the Cayenne went through an extensive update just back in 2015, so after three years it was time to make some changes while leaving the relatively fresh body intact with just little extras here and there. As such Porsche focused its energy on what happens beneath the skin bringing updated or new technology that includes rear axle steering as standard equipment, a three-chamber suspension, 48-volt electronic roll stabilization, and two new engines that offer up more power and better economy. At the skin level, we see a revised interior and exterior that is really more of a honing to the previous layout than an update, but it’s exactly what the Cayenne needed to take its respective segment by storm in 2018.

For now, there are only two trim levels available – the base level Cayenne and the Cayenne S. Like the second-gen model, it will likely take a couple of years, but Porsche should fill the lineup with a diesel and a plug-in hybrid variant at some point. There’s also the potential for an all-electric model at some point in this generation if Porsche really gets froggy, but we’ll leave that speculation for another time. For now, let’s take a good look and the new Cayenne and talk about all of the exciting changes that will carry it into the next decade.

Do you think the Lamborghini would’ve made short work of both its rivals?

There have been rumors for a while now about Porsche working on a new performance-oriented variant of its Cayenne Coupé. However, imagine what would a 2004 Cayenne be able to pull off on rough terrain if someone prepared it for such challenges. Oh, wait, it happened, because Canada’s Flat Six has built a Cayenne that’s bordering into motorsport territory - at least as far as looks go.

Not all superheroes are supercars

It’s hard to fathom the fact that the Porsche Cayenne has been around for almost two decades. During this time, Porsche’s first-ever SUV rose in popularity and became the brand’s best-seller, bringing in the required cash to keep the likes of 911 alive and kicking. This video explains very neatly how the Cayenne saved Porsche or better said, how Porsche saved itself with the Cayenne.

All hands on deck for this scintillating program for the German SUV

With the arrival of super SUVs like the Lamborghini Urus, Bentley Bentayga, and Rolls-Royce Cullinan, the Porsche Cayenne Turbo now faces stiff competition from all corners of the market. The high-powered German SUV still commands plenty of respect and attention, but in those moments when it meets any of these new upstarts, a little aftermarket help wouldn’t be so bad to have. This program, in particular, offers a glimpse of what a Porsche Cayenne Turbo could end up as if enough aftermarket support goes into it. Mind you, this isn’t a one-tuner job; this is the work of several outfits, all coming together to build what could very well be one of the most impressive Cayenne Turbos on the market. There’s a heavy price to pay for this kind of work, but rest assured, German tuner HGP Turbo, Austrian vinyl wrap maker Black Box-Richter, clothing brand Nebulus, and designer Hajo Lemke of EightElevan Design developed a monster program for the Porsche Cayenne Turbo.

A hybrid with more than 800 horsepower?

The 2021 Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT is an upcoming version of the Cayenne Coupe, a sleek SUV that Porsche originally introduced for the 2020 model year. Spotted testing in the wild with a different exhaust layout, the 2021 Cayenne Turbo GT is rumored to become the company’s range-topping model. It could also be a hybrid that generates more oomph than the already impressive Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid model. The fact that it was also spotted at the Nurburgring in the past suggests it will be more dynamic than any other Cayenne on the market. The equivalent of the 911 GT3 for SUVs if you will. The name is not yet official, but it could be called the Cayenne Coupe Turbo GT5, a badge that Porsche trademarked back in 2015.

Update 4/28/2020: The Porsche Cayenne Coupe GT Was spotted testing one again, this time with what we believe to be sport exhaust. Check out the latest pictures in our special “Spy Shots” section below.

Will the hottest Porsche Cayenne get even hotter?

The internet has been buzzing with rumours about a racy Porsche Panamera “Lion” that packs between 760 and 800+ horsepower taking the Nurburgring by storm. It has been reported that the test prototype packed a boosted version of the S-E Hybrid powertrain found in the regular Panamera, while some said it relied on an ICE-only powertrain. All this chatter was immediately followed by rumors about a hotter Porsche Cayenne Turbo S-E Hybrid said to wear the “RS” badge; in fact, some outlets out there are forwarding the “GT” lettering instead, but that’s not the most relevant aspect for the moment.

What got us really interested has to do with the set of pictures sent in by our spy photographers. The photos show a camouflage-free Porsche Cayenne Coupe test prototype of sorts that wears a flashy body colour and contrasting brake calipers. What made us interest pique even more is the rear bumper/exhaust setup configuration, which sports a dual-pipe arrangement in the center unseen so far on a road-going Cayenne. Oh, and those rectangular side-positioned exhausts? They’re fake.

The Porsche Cayenne Coupe Just Might Be the King of the Autobahn

The Porsche Cayenne Coupe Just Might Be the King of the Autobahn

Porsche Cayenne Coupe Turbo Just Showed Why Is It The King Of The Autobahn, The Slayer of the Electric Nonsense, And An Absolute Dominator

Have you ever drove on the German Autobahn? Or, basically, on any European highway for extended periods? Let me paint you a picture of reality!

The speed limit is usually at 130 kph (80 mph), but you can comfortably cruise at, say 85-90 mph without getting pulled over! I did it just a couple of days ago in Italy where I transversed from Trieste to Monza (yes, The Track - I’m lucky I know). At that speed, and a bit of luck with the traffic, you sit in the "slower" lane and occasionally jump to a "faster" lane to take over slower stuff (Fiat 500, Polo 1.0, a truck or something else that goes like 80, or less). It can be a tedious job, but in those instances when you do switch lanes to take over slower stuff and accelerate to something like 95 mph, a few things can happen.

You can uneventfully overtake a car you want to pass, accelerate a bit more fervently because of a local delivery guy who drives a massive Mercedes Sprinter Van at, at least, 100 mph or put the pedal to the metal to get the *uck off that faster lane for something serious to pass by. No, I am not talking about Ferraris, or Bentleys (you see those occasionally), but about Audis, BMWs, and Mercs with boosted six-cylinder diesel engines. They EAT miles! They are serious!

And then, the real owners of the Autobahn - a worryingly large number of Porsches - come into play! Why worryingly? Well, there’s so many of them that you question yourself (quietly) if you’re stupid because you don’t have one!? That is exactly where this guy who tested the new Porsche Cayenne Turbo Coupe on the German autobahn fits. He is kind of a king on the Autobahn. The guys behind the AutoTopNL YouTube channel took the maddest Cayenne Coupe and tested it on public roads in Germany. The driver achieved 297 kph (185 mph) in this SUV. It is legal!

2020 Mercedes GLS vs 2020 Porsche Cayenne

2020 Mercedes GLS vs 2020 Porsche Cayenne

Merc’s biggest hauler goes toe to toe with the vehicle that rejuvenated the niche of fast SUVs

I picture you glancing over this article and thinking, "How can he compare these two SUVs, they’re not even playing ball in the same field?", and while that is true, it’s not an exercise in futility. Both the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLS and the 2020 Porsche Cayenne offer buckets of luxury and are expensive, so it’s worth putting them head to head to see what type of SUV is, ultimately, better.

In this matchup, you’ve got on the one hand the bear-like, full-size GLS SUV or the mid-size, sporty Cayenne SUV. The latter doesn’t offer as much interior room but can get you from A to B quicker. Also, it’s worth comparing these two mean peddlers because comparing the new GLS with the X7 is all too predictable - but we’ll tackle that too, don’t worry!

From the outset, you can probably guess who the winners will be in each category, right? I mean, just look at the GLS: it has a straight roofline and an almost straight back end to round things off. It features a longer wheelbase and up to seven full seats with all the amenities one could ask for. It must be the winner when it comes to the interior category, right? And the Cayenne must be the winner in the drivetrain department due to its higher output engines in the more expensive trim levels and, by and large, it also looks a bit nicer due to its lower stance, right? But things aren’t as simple as they seem from the outside.

2020 Porsche Cayenne Coupe With A Lower Roof, Pepito Pattern And Two Spoilers From The Get-Go

The latest addition to Porsche’s great line up is the all-new 2020 Cayenne Coupe. As one of the most financially meaningful contributions to the lineup, the Cayenne Coupe gathered all the best Cayenne abilities and offered them in a sexier, sleeker and, seemingly more sophisticated shape.

While I can tell you right away that the Porsche Cayenne Coupe is a Cayenne with a differently styled roof, it also does hide its true nature with a few essential novelties compared to the wagon-style brother.

In essence, the Porsche Cayenne Coupe sacrificed a lot of the Cayenne utilitarianism for style and design. With money printing machines like the X6, GLE Coupe, and the Q8 on the market, Porsche simply had no choice but to offer a more beautiful Cayenne. And this, while still strangely ostentatious, may well be the best-looking Coupe-SUV on the market. Here are all the important novelties you need to know about it:

Porsche’s new competitor for the BMW X6 has style

Coupe SUVs tend to suffer from polarized opinions – you either like them or absolutely despise them. They represent the weirdest blend between body styles that the automotive world has ever seen. BMW is the culprit for starting the trend, and other automakers must follow. That’s why we’re looking at the new 2020 Porsche Cayenne Coupe – Porsche had to have a competitor for the BMW X6, and now they do. Powered by either a 3.0-liter six-cylinder or a 4.0-liter V-8, the new Coupe SUV can deliver as much as 542 horsepower and 568 pound-feet of torque. Here at Topspeed, nobody can really agree on whether the body style is attractive or not, but we know at least some of our readers are in love with the body style, and the Cayenne Coupe will be the subject of all your desires. So, we’ve decided to make it our wallpaper of the day. Check out our favorite below or pick your own from the gallery at the bottom of the page!

Porsche’s answer to the BMW X6 and Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe

The 2020 Porsche Cayenne Coupe is a sleek, coupe-style version of the familiar Cayenne SUV and the German company’s competitor for the BMW X6, Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe, and the Audi Q8. Unveiled in 2019, it goes on sale for the 2020 model year with drivetrains borrowed from the regular Cayenne. Design-wise, it has a much sleeker rear end, but Porsche also altered the front fascia, which looks a bit more aggressive than the regular SUV. Aimed at premium crossovers built by German companies, the Cayenne Coupe benefits from all the features available with the regular Cayenne. However, this SUV offers limited headroom for rear-seat passengers and has a slightly smaller trunk. Does it have what it takes to give the X6, GLE Coupe, and Q8 a run for their money? Let’s find out in the review below.

The 2020 Porsche Cayenne Coupe Is the Continuation of a Dumb Segment

The 2020 Porsche Cayenne Coupe Is the Continuation of a Dumb Segment

A series of compromises doesn’t make it good - it makes it worse

It’s no secret that I’m not exactly the biggest performance SUV fan. On more than one occasion I’ve likened the segment to training elephants to tap dance (sure you can do it, but what’s the point?). To me, an SUV is really good at carrying lots of people and stuff, occasionally good at going off-road, and that’s about it. Sure, you can stuff it with power and mechanical grip and every speed trick in the book to make it fast, but in the end, if it’s performance that you’re after, you’re better off with a smaller, lighter platform, preferably something specifically designed for the job. To make matters worse, the SUV “Coupe” segment almost always hurts one the SUV’s biggest strengths (interior room) to bolster one of its biggest weaknesses (styling). And to me, that’s dumb.

Stuttgart’s iconic SUV finds new plug-in power

Porsche just unveiled the latest iteration of its popular Cayenne performance SUV, and this time around, it’s got extra electric oomph to back it. Once again taking inspiration from the Earth-shattering 918 Spyder, the new Cayenne mounts a plug-in hybrid powertrain under the hood, with a 3.0-liter V-6 making 340 horsepower and an electric motor making 136 horsepower. Together they produce upwards of 462 horsepower and 700 Nm of torque (516 pound-feet of torque). A run from 0 to 62 mph is done in 5 seconds flat, while the 0-to-60 mph run is done in 4.7 seconds. Top speed is rated at 253 km/h (157 mph).

Meanwhile, the Cayenne PHEV will travel 44 km (27 miles) and achieve a top speed of 135 km/h (84 mph) using the electric motor only. To help it get there, the battery capacity was increased to 14.1 kWh, as compared to the 10.8 kWh of the previous model, a 30-percent increase overall. Plug it into a 230-volt connection, and it’ll charge in a little under eight hours, while a 7.3-kW charger reduces that time to 2.3 hours.

Active hang-on AWD helps it grip, as does the standard Porsche Active Suspension Management system. Options include the Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control roll stabilization system, as well as a trailer hitch that lets you to tow up to 3.5 metric tons (7,716 pounds).

Inside, you’ll find a heads-up display, adaptive cruise control, and massaging seats, while the exterior is blinged out with 22-inch alloy wheels.

Sales kick off next year starting at just under $80,000.

When the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk simply won’t do

Porsche has a history of making absurd vehicles, but this might take the cake – at least for now. It’s the new 2019 Cayenne Turbo and it packs 550 horsepower from a twin-turbocharged V-8 that turns all four wheels while four-wheel steering and active aero bodywork scramble to keep it pointing straight. Think of it as the playboy’s version of the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk.

Porsche pulled the covers off the new high-powered SUV at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show to a crowd of gleeful onlookers. No doubt people fawn on whatever Porsche attaches its crest too, including tall SUVs and four-door sedans with a hybrid powertrain. Granted, the German automaker generally knows how to screw a vehicle together, but Porsche has certainly been carving out new territory over the last 17 years. As for the new Cayenne Turbo, well, it’s muy caliente, so keep reading for the juicy details. You’ll find it includes rear-wheel steering, a new three-chamber air suspension, and a 48-volt electronic roll stabilization system.

The 2019 Porsche Cayenne Turbo: An SUV with Attitude and Sports Car Performance

The 2019 Porsche Cayenne Turbo: An SUV with Attitude and Sports Car Performance

Welcome to the world of crazy performance in a tall package

Porsche introduced the third-gen Cayenne in August of 2017 with a mildly revised exterior, new technology, and a revised engine lineup that’s good for 340 ponies in base form or 440 ponies in S form. At the time I reviewed the new Cayenne, I speculated that Porsche would have to come up with a solution for the Turbo model as it needed to squeeze a considerable amount of extra power from that 2.9-liter V-6 or would have to go with a V-8 as it has in the past. Just a couple of weeks after the third-gen Cayenne debuted, Porsche showed up to the Frankfurt Auto Show with the new Cayenne Turbo, and as it turns out, I’m better than Miss Cleo, as the new Turbo sure does make use of a V-8 that’s good for 550 ponies – an improvement of 30 ponies and there’s some extra torque on tap too. More importantly, however, is the fact that this V-8 is new, and displaces 4.0-liters – about 800cc less than the V-8 in the last-gen model.

Of course, there’s not a lot of difference between the base, S, and Turbo models, but there are a few differences to point out. It does get the same headlights and the same general fascia, however, those side intakes are much larger on the Turbo model, and the grill traverses the full width between the side intakes instead of being split by the fascia on the ends. There are no fog lights to speak of up front, and the radiator grille itself is much more open in comparison. In the rear, the only real differences include the rear diffuser, which is now more defined and the square exhaust outlets. 21-inch wheels that are exclusive to the Turbo model can be found in each corner and match the wide wheel arches quite nicely, I might add. But, there’s more than exterior looks to talk about here, including some nice extras inside and that new V-8 under to hood, so let’s talk more about that.

2018 Porsche Cayenne

2018 Porsche Cayenne

The Porsche Cayenne: A Leap of Faith Becomes a Complete Success

The Porsche Cayenne: A Leap of Faith Becomes a Complete Success

From a risky first offering, the Porsche Cayenne has turned into one of the industry’s most loved models

14 years isn’t a long time in the industry, but it does feel like it with the Porsche Cayenne. I know it’s only just gotten to its third-generation, but for a car that made a polarizing debut in 2003, it sure seems like it’s been around a lot longer than that. Most of you probably know that the third-gen Cayenne was just unveiled during a spectacular launch in Stuttgart, Germany, and as far as new model unveilings are concerned, this is as big as it’s going to get. More than any other model, the Cayenne is considered the model that really ushered in premium SUVs in the market. It was the first SUV from a regarded premium automaker to make that plunge into the SUV market, and while it had its ups and downs in the early years, it’s ended up arguably being Porsche’s most important model.

I saw what the third-gen Cayenne looks like and it looks positively tasty. Hard to imagine that it looks the way it does now when the first-gen model, at least with the benefit of hindsight, wasn’t all that attractive. It did pack a punch though, and a pretty potent one that. Taking the good with the bad, Porsche nevertheless deserves a ton of credit for investing heavily on the Cayenne when the first impulse back then was to gag at the thought of a Porsche SUV. 14 years and three generations later, the Porsche Cayenne is still standing at the top of the premium SUV market. It’s come a long way, that’s for sure.

The Third-Gen Porsche Cayenne Makes a Symphonious Debut in Stuttgart

The Third-Gen Porsche Cayenne Makes a Symphonious Debut in Stuttgart

Yes, this really is a new-gen model despite the way it looks.

A huge symphony projected onto a massive display, and a large number of dancers in white robes set the mood for the third-gen Porsche Cayenne to roll onto the stage for its first official outing at the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart. When you think of a new-gen model making its debut, you expect to see something quite different, but with the Cayenne, it was more about honing perfection instead of trying to reinvent the model. And, while some may have their reservations about it (perhaps even me included,) beauty runs much deeper than the skin on this baby. First off, the body is now all aluminum from front to rear (minus a few pieces of plastic cladding, of course) which contributed to a weight loss of around 65 kilo or 143.3 pounds. That’s the weight of a small human, and when you add in the fact that it gets more power, there’s no doubt about it, the new Cayenne has all that sports car DNA Porsche was aiming for. How did it make this possible? Well, I’m glad you asked.

For starters, a new rear axle steering system is standard equipment for better maneuverability while a three-chamber suspension system keeps the ride on point. What’s more important, however, is the power upgrades that contribute to better performance. The base model gets a 3.0-liter that’s good for 340 horsepower, a 40-pony improvement, and 331 pound-feet of torque. The Cayenne S, which gets the 2.9-liter V-6, will deliver a tasty 440 horsepower (20 extra ponies) and 405 pound-feet of twist. They can hit 62 mph in 6.2 and 5.2 seconds, respectively. If you opt for the Sport Chrono package, those figures drop to 5.9 and 4.9 seconds. Maximum speed for both models is pegged at 164 mph. As for the interior, there are some nice changes in play as well, including better digitization of the instrument cluster (all but the central analog gauge) and a large, 12.3-inch touchscreen display in the center stack. New HVAC vents help to provide a fresh look while the typical support handles on the doors and console have been moved forward a bit. Cargo capacity has increased to 27.19 cubic-feet, an improvement of 3.53 cubic-feet over the outgoing model. This can be attributed to its slightly longer stance, which was increased by nearly 2.5 inches. Finally, and arguably most important for the interior, is the new button panel on the center console. Where there were once analog buttons clustered together now sits a glass touch screen with lots of digital buttons. It’s a nice touch, to say the least.

And there you have it. There are of course other little details to talk about, but we’ll cover that in our full review, which will be updated in the next 24 hours. For now, you can rest your mind knowing that the third-gen Cayenne starts out in Germany from €74,828 while the Cayenne S goes for €91,964, both including VAT. Those figures convert to $85,590 and $110,106, respectively. The third-gen Cayenne isn’t available for the U.S. quite yet, but if you’re over there in Germany, you can stop by your local dealer and place your order now.

Check it Out: The Third-Gen Porsche Cayenne Leaks Before its Official Debut!!!

Another major leak before a debut... yeah, it’s not the manufacturers doing this at all...

Introduced to the U.S. for the 2003 model year, the Porsche Cayenne has been through two generations and is set to make another generational shift on August 29, but before that happens, someone – most likely Porsche trying to generate hype – has leaked a whole handful of images that show off the next-gen (if that’s what you would call it) SUV. It’s becoming pretty commonplace for luxury automakers to be quite lazy with visual changes when it comes to generational updates, and the Porsche Cayenne is no exception. In fact, to an untrained eye, I wouldn’t blame you for thinking that this was a 2017 Cayenne. Very few changes can be spotted, but include a slightly larger center grille with slightly larger corner air inlets. It does feature invisible mesh hidden behind three chrome plated louvers and the fog light area has also changed, to allow for rectangular units. The air dam is just a bit wider, and the hood gets a couple of extra body lines. The biggest change up front is limited to the new headlight units, that are now single light units. If you recall, the second-gen model had the same LED headlights but also featured a projector to the inside corner. That is no longer the case, and the main LEDs should provide variable brightness depending on whether you have your dims or brights engaged.

As for the rest of the outside, there isn’t much to write home about. The side profile is pretty much unchanged from the current model while the overhang on the rear hatch no gets longer wings on the sides. The taillights are now thinner units with a flat bottom, connected together by a reflector unit that traverses the width of the hatch. The rear fascia is less eventful but does feature a sharp body line running from left to right. Finally, the lower portion of the rear fascia gets larger cladding with rectangular exhaust outlets. It’s not bad, but this is worthier of being called a facelift than a generational shift. But, what about the interior? Keep reading to find out.

2017 Porsche Cayenne Turbo S Magnum Sport "Edition 30 Years" by TechArt

2017 Porsche Cayenne Turbo S Magnum Sport "Edition 30 Years" by TechArt

German tuner has something special lined up for the power-packed Porsche SUV

Regardless of what you may think of the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S, there’s no denying the SUV has made a significant impact in the auto industry. But now that the Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid is set to replace the Cayenne Turbo S as the flagship model of the SUV line, there’s no better way to give the gas-powered SUV the perfect swan song by putting it in the hands of TechArt, the German tuner of all things Porsche. Serendipitously, TechArt’s latest program for the Cayenne Turbo S comes at a time when the tuner is celebrating its 30th anniversary. Put these two events together and you’re presented with the “Edition 30 Years” special edition version of TechArt’s Magnum Sport program for the Cayenne. Among the many new features is 720 horsepower and 678 pound-feet of torque.

Consider that insane torque number for a second. Not only does TechArt’s program add 88 pound-feet of twist to the Cayenne, but the resulting output also puts it head and shoulders above the 627 pound-feet of torque capabilities of the Porsche Cayenne Diesel, which just set a Guinness world record by successfully pulling a 314-ton Airbus A380. Imagine then what the Edition 30 Years version of TechArt’s Magnum program is capable of when afforded the same opportunity.

Porsche Tows 314-Ton Airbus A380 with Cayenne Turbo S and Diesel Models

Porsche Tows 314-Ton Airbus A380 with Cayenne Turbo S and Diesel Models

Proving anything will move with enough torque and traction

Chalk this up as an unconventional demonstration of a Porsche’s capabilities. The German automaker just set a Guinness World Record by towing a 314-ton Airbus A380 nearly 138 feet across the tarmac at the Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris. That’s well beyond the previous record of 100 feet set by a Nissan Patrol in 2013. The Porsche also surpassed the Nissan in weight towed, too, as the Patrol’s airplane “only” weighed 170 tons. But Porsche didn’t just use one version of its popular SUV; both the torque-rich Cayenne S Diesel and the high-performance Turbo S proved their might.

This isn’t the first time Volkswagen, Porsche’s parent company, has set records by pulling oversized airplanes. Back in 2006, the VW Touareg equipped with its optional V-10 TDI turbodiesel pulled a 155-ton Boeing 747. The Touareg was “slightly modified” with a whopping 10,000 pounds of sandbags for extra traction. Other automakers have pulled similar stunts, including Toyota in 2012. A bone-stock Tundra pickup pulled the 325-ton Space Shuttle Endeavour and its heavy tow dollies across the Manchester Bridge in California.

Porsche Cayenne S Platinum Edition

Porsche Cayenne S Platinum Edition

Sprucing up the second gen for one last hurrah

Porsche first released its Cayenne mid-size luxury performance SUV in 2002, and although plenty of naysayers derided the Stuttgart-based brand for this seemingly sacrilegious break from tradition, the model continues to do well 15 years later. Now, with the third-generation Cayenne expected to appear in just a few short months at this year’s Geneva Motor Show, Porsche is sprucing up the outgoing model with a new special edition model called the Platinum Edition. Upgrades include a few bits and pieces for the interior, as well as understated exterior styling modifications, while the rest of the Cayenne spec and equipment is left as is.

Outside, you’ll find new, large-diameter wheels, plus revamped glossy black trim. Inside is leather and Alcantara upholstery, top-end infotainment gear, and unique badging.

Porsche is offering its Platinum Edition treatment for the Cayenne S gas-powered model, as well as the Cayenne S Diesel. Under the skin, the mechanical bits are unaltered, which means you still get 420 horsepower from the twin-turbo 3.6-liter six-cylinder in the Cayenne S, and 385 horsepower from the twin-turbo V-8 in the Cayenne S Diesel.

Pricing starts at 87,442 euros (or $94,311 at current exchange rates) for the Cayenne S Platinum Edition, and 90,417 euros (or $97,519 at current exchange rates) for the Cayenne S Diesel Platinum Edition.

2016 Porsche Cayenne Platinum Edition

Sportier exterior and extra standard features for the base Cayenne and the S E-Hybrid

Introduced in 2002, the Cayenne was Porsche’s first-ever SUV, and despite being heavily criticized for going against the company’s tradition as a sports car manufacturer, the performance people hauler is credited for saving Porsche from financial downfall. The popular SUV was redesigned in 2010 and the second-gen model received its mid-cycle facelift for 2015, when all models, including the hybrid, gained updated or brand-new drivetrains. For 2016, Porsche is expanding the Cayenne lineup with the Platinum Edition.

Available for the base Cayenne and the S E-Hybrid version, the Platinum package gives the crossover a sportier appearance by means of

spec wheels, beefier fenders, blacked-out chrome, and a special color palette. Inside, it adds more features to the usual standard equipment list, enhancing comfort and safety. Both models carry the same engine as their standard siblings under the hood, but that’s far form surprising given the recent update. With 300 and 416 horsepower at their disposal, respectively, that’s hardly an issue.

Both vehicles will arrive in U.S. showrooms in 2016, expanding the North American Cayenne lineup to no fewer than eight models.

2015 Porsche Cayenne Magnum by TechArt

2015 Porsche Cayenne Magnum by TechArt

Ever since it was launched in 2004, TechArt’s Magnum kit for the Porsche Cayenne has established itself as one of the premier Cayenne tuning programs in the world. Three generations of the SUV have been developed and all three have received their respective Magnum kits from the German tuner. In that time, TechArt claims that more than 1,200 Magnum kits have been built for customers all over the world. That’s no small feat for an SUV that’s attracted its own share of tuning kits from other aftermarket shops all over the world. Now that the fourth generation of the Cayenne has been launched, TechArt’s jumping on board with a new Magnum kit that’s scheduled to make its debut at the 2015 Essen Motor Show.

In typical TechArt fashion, the new Magnum kit is defined by a dramatic aerodynamic kit that totally flips the script on what the Cayenne looks like. A heavily dressed up interior and significant engine upgrades help balance the entire Magnum program. TechArt has used this formula for the past 11 years and it has been successful in doing so, as shown by the over 1,000 customers who now have the Magnum kits on their Cayennes.

The fourth-generation Magnum kit also showcases the evolution of the program so what you see now represents the time and dedication TechArt has put into building one of the most comprehensive kits for the Cayenne that’s in the market today. There may be other programs for the Cayenne in the market, but if you want to call a spade a spade, few are as better as TechArt’s Magnum program. That’s been the case for the better part of 10 years and knowing TechArt, that’s going to be the case for the foreseeable future.

2015 Porsche Cayenne Turbo

2015 Porsche Cayenne Turbo

Porsche has updated its ever-popular Cayenne Turbo with a refresh for the 2015 model year, blessing the uber-SUV with several exterior styling tweaks, a slightly revised interior package, and a more powerful (yet somehow more fuel efficient) drivetrain.

The Cayenne first broke cover way back in 2002, much to the annoyance of Porsche purists (you know, the folks who still think liquid-cooled engines are for chumps). Despite representing a clear departure from convention, the Cayenne blended high-performance with expanded utility, and quickly became a staple of the Porsche catalog, selling more than 276,000 examples in its first generation. Not long afterwards, many high-end manufacturers followed suit, and now, the performance SUV is a hugely common sight on the road.

Porsche wants Cayenne owners to “commute to work today and drive off-road or on the racetrack tomorrow.” It’s a combination that seems contradictory, but the Turbo claims to get it done with comfort, speed, and now, a little efficiency as well.

Read on to see how Porsche pulled it off.

Porsche Offers New Options For Cayenne, Macan And Panamera

Porsche models are arguably some of the most factory-customizable vehicles on the market, but that didn’t stop the Germans from introducing a range of new options for the Panamera sedan and the Cayenne and Macan crossovers. The new features are offered via Porsche Exclusive, the division responsible for a wide array of bespoke models ranging from the Boxster to the Cayenne, and the list includes enhancements for both the exterior and the cabin, as well as a new exhaust system.

The biggest news here is the availability of the Porsche Rear Seat Entertainment system for all Panamera models. The feature that debuted in the Panamera Turbo S Exclusive Series, a limited-edition, U.S.-spec sedan built in only 100 units, adds two high-resolution 10.1-inch color touchscreen displays in the front-seat backrests. An integrated DVD player, two USB ports, an SD card slot and an HDMI port provide connection to a wide range of devices, while an integrated camera allows video telephony. The entertainment system also features internet connectivity and mobile access. The system will retail from €3,082.10 (around $3,234 as of 03/13/2015) in Germany.

Walter Röhrl Tests Porsche Cayenne GTS And Turbo S On Ice: Video

Walter Röhrl Tests Porsche Cayenne GTS And Turbo S On Ice: Video

Walter Rohrl driving on ice, now that’s a sight to behold! We’ve seen him at it in cars such as the Fiat 131 Abarth, Lancia 037 Rally, and the Audi Sport Quattro during his glory World Rally Championship days, but what happens when the German ace attempts similar stunts in the current Porsche Cayenne? Well, it’s equally spectacular, especially since Rohrl is now 67 years old. Yep, he’s 67 and still driving fast cars for a living. And I bet we won’t see him in a Toyota Corolla anytime soon, if you get my drift.

Speaking of drifts, that’s exactly what you’re going to see in Porsche’s new video above, which showcases the sportiness and stability of both the Cayenne GTS and the Cayenne Turbo S. And snow, there’s a lot of snow, and even a few portions of ice. But despite the harsh conditions, both Cayenne’s seem to handle the try-outs brilliantly. Heck, if I didn’t know any better I’d say the FIA changed WRC regulations to allow SUVs and that Rohrl is preparing for a comeback after nearly three decades. Unfortunately, Walter has better things to do (like raise grandchildren) than teach Sebastien Ogier a thing or two about rallying, so you’ll just have to settle for these two Cayennes being put through their paces in the snow.

Don’t worry though, Rohlr hasn’t changed a bit. He’s driving like it’s 1980 all over again.

Porsche Says The Next Cayenne Will Be The World's "Quickest" SUV

Porsche Says The Next Cayenne Will Be The World’s "Quickest" SUV

Quick versus fast. Bentley has long been claiming that its first-ever SUV, the 2016 Bentayga – will be the fastest (and most luxurious) SUV in the world when it debuts later this year, but now, according to Car & Driver, Porsche is saying that its next-gen Cayenne will be the quickest.

Porsche’s head of research and development, Wolfgang Hatz, was quoted by C&D as saying “our Cayenne is always very, very quick. It is doing 300 km/h [186 mph]. I think if [Bentley’s Dürheimer] is doing 2 to 3 km/h more, then why not? He’s doing that with a 12-cylinder. Our car will be much quicker on the road.” (It’s interesting to note that Hatz claims such a top speed for the Cayenne while Porsche’s spec sheet says the fastest Cayenne tops out at 176 mph).

The semantics of the statements made by both Bentley and now Porsche, which are likely very deliberate, suggest that Porsche is willing to let a W-12-powered Bentley claim the highest top speed of an SUV, while its next-generation Cayenne focuses on carving up the Nürburgring and other tracks around the world. In fact, Porsche just boasted at the Detroit Auto Show that the new 2016 Cayenne Turbo S set a new record for SUVs at the ‘Ring with a time of just 7:59.74 minutes.

For comparison, Bentley is reportedly designing the Bentayga to top the 200-mph mark – no small for feat for any SUV. Of course, the battle speed among SUVs at the Volkswagen Group should go beyond the next-gen Porsche Cayenne and the Bentley Bentayga as this topic doesn’t even begin to factor in the production version of the Lamborghini Urus, which, if built, should be based on the same platform as the Porsche and Bentley, as well as the Audi Q7 and Volkswagen Touareg.

2016 Porsche Cayenne Turbo S

2016 Porsche Cayenne Turbo S

First introduced in 2002, the Cayenne is one of the premier vehicles to blend high-performance speed with the stance and road presence of an SUV. Despite rapid growth and growing popularity in the segment, Porsche remains a leader by staying one step ahead, a move embodied by the introduction of the 2016 Cayenne Turbo S.

With an official reveal at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show, the new top-range Cayenne features an updated twin-turbo, V-8 engine and a chassis capable of slinging around 5,000 pounds like a Wii controller in the hands of a hyperactive kid.

The company claims every vehicle it makes is a “genuine sports car”, even if it happens to weigh two and a half tons. It doesn’t really matter if you agree with that statement or not, because when it comes down to it, the Cayenne Turbo S is more than capable of producing numbers that even some of the most track-oriented vehicles in the world have a tough time besting.

Here’s a number for you: a lap around the North Loop at the Nürburgring under eight minutes, at 7:59.74. Here’s another: 0 to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds. Clearly, mass is no object when it comes to the engineers from Stuttgart.

With a launch date in the U.S. scheduled for late April, the new Cayenne looks to set a new pace in the world of fast, luxury SUVs. It’s a mind-bending automobile, and for those folks who want it all, including comfortable seating for four passengers, and a 0-to-60 time faster than a 911 Carrera 4S, it doesn’t get much better than this.

Porsche Cayenne Turbo S Brings its 570 HP to Detroit

Porsche Cayenne Turbo S Brings its 570 HP to Detroit

Since 2002, Porsche has offered the Cayenne as a means to turn the laws of physics into so much chewed bubble gum. Now, the crew from Stuttgart has unveiled an updated variant of this performance behemoth at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show, and it’s more powerful, more capable in the bends, and more likely to embarrass sports cars bearing half its curb weight.

Nothing backs a claim to racing intent like a solid lap time, and the 2016 Cayenne Turbo S has one: 7:59.74 minutes for the North Loop of the Nürburgring, to be exact. That’s the same territory where you’ll find the Alfa Romeo 4C, Dodge Viper SRT-10, and Porsche’s own Cayman S, all of which may run into difficulty seating four passengers and hauling some groceries.

The most important update is in the 4.8-liter, twin-turbo V-8, which gets a bump in output to 570 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque, an additional 20 horses and 37 more pound-feet of torque compared to the previous engine. The double boost snails are now integrated inside the exhaust manifold for a sharper throttle response. These updates produce a 0-to-60 time of 3.8 seconds, cutting 0.4 seconds from the previous model’s time. Top speed is clocked at a ludicrous 176 mph.

Throw a ton of power at something, and it’ll go fast in a straight line. However, encouraging a substantial amount of mass to change direction in a corner is far more complicated. To solve the issue, Stuttgart took out its jug of branded go-faster acronyms and poured out every last drop.

Slowing the speed are Porsche Composite Ceramic Brakes (PCCB) that use 16.5-inch front discs and simply outrageous 10-piston calipers (yes, 10 friggin’ pistons). Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) actively counters body lean, while Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus) applies brakes to either the left or right side of the vehicle for crisper handling. The permanent all-wheel-drive system works in tandem with Porsche Traction Management (PTM) to get the nearly 600 horsepower cleanly onto the pavement.

At $196,244, the Cayenne Turbo S is far from cheap, but it’s a price that covers any and all revisions you may make to Newton’s laws of motion while driving about. A German launch date is scheduled for the second quarter of 2015.

2015 Porsche Cayenne GTS

2015 Porsche Cayenne GTS

Porsche first offered the Cayenne GTS in 2007 as a lighter and more aerodynamically honed version of the SUV. Although not as powerful as the Turbo versions, the GTS had better driving dynamics thanks to its sport suspension and reduced curb weight.

The Cayenne was the first modern Porsche to wear the GTS emblem, paying tribute to a nameplate introduced in 1963 with the 904 Carrera. The moniker was later used for the front-engined 924 and 928 models and, once it returned on the Cayenne, it found its way on the 911 and Panamera. As the facelifted second-gen SUV bowed for the 2015 model year, Porsche also launched an updated version of the Cayenne GTS.

Much like the revised Cayenne, the GTS boasts numerous exterior design updates and a slightly revised interior. More importantly, though, the GTS ditched its familiar V-8 powerplant in favor of a twin-turbocharged, V-6 mill. Despite dropping two cylinders and displacing only 3.6 liters, the new engine pumps more power and torque into the Cayenne GTS, which also brings quicker sprints and a stronger position among its competitors. 2015 Porsche Cayenne Vantage by TopCar

2015 Porsche Cayenne Vantage by TopCar

Russian tuner Topcar has made a business out of building programs for the Porsche Cayenne. With that much experience in Porsche’s first SUV, it was only a matter of time before Topcar turned its attention toward the latest Cayenne to come out of Stuttgart. So here it is, ladies and gentlemen. Topcar’s updated Vantage program for the 2015 Cayenne.

With so many changes from its 2014 incarnation, the 2015 Cayenne feels more like a completely new model than a mid-cycle facelift. That’s like giving Topcar a totally new canvas to paint on, and to no one’s surprise, the Russian tuner did just that.

The kit itself is as extensive as it gets without diving into any performance enhancements. The aero upgrades are typically top-caliber, all of which were created using carbon fiber and Kevlar.

There’s a big part of me that continues to believe in the elegance of the Porsche Cayenne. But i certainly won’t mind giving it the kind of sporty and aggressive edge that Topcar seems to be able to do without even batting an eyelash.

That’s clearly evident with its new program for the 2015 Porsche Cayenne. The company has said that the first finished Cayenne with the new Vantage program will be finished in February 2015.

That’s enough time to get yourselves acclimated with this program. If given a choice, a lot of you wouldn’t wait until February to decide on giving your 2015 Cayenne the full Topcar treatment.

2015 Porsche Cayenne S E-Hybrid

2015 Porsche Cayenne S E-Hybrid

Porsche announced plans to introduce a hybrid version of the Cayenne in 2005, three years after it had launched its sports SUV. A functioning vehicle was shown at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show, with the production version, dubbed S Hybrid, arriving three years later. Brought to the United States in late 2010, the S Hybrid was motivated by a supercharged, 3.0-liter, V-6, gasoline engine and an electric motor that cranked out a total of 380 horsepower and 428 pound-feet of torque. As the second-gen Cayenne received its facelift for the 2015 model year, the Germans announced the launch of the S E-Hybrid, a plug-in model set to replace the S Hybrid.

More powerful, fuel-efficient, and eco-friendly when compared to its predecessor, the S E-Hybrid is also the first plug-in hybrid in the premium-SUV segment. What’s more, the revised hybrid also enables Porsche to become the first manufacturer to sell three production plug-in hybrids. The Cayenne joins the plug-in version of the Panamera sports sedan and the 918 Spyder supercar.

The Cayenne S E-Hybrid makes its official debut at the 2014 Paris Motor Show.

2015 Porsche Cayenne S E-Hybrid Meteor Grey Metallic by Porsche Exclusive

2015 Porsche Cayenne S E-Hybrid Meteor Grey Metallic by Porsche Exclusive

Can we start calling for an investigation on the water Porsche Exclusive designers and engineers are drinking over there in Stuttgart? Are we sure that it’s not spiked with powers that make those who drink it impervious to fatigue? I only ask because Porsche Exclusive has released another personalized creation, this time for the Cayenne S E-Hybrid SUV. I’m kidding about the performance-enhancing water (PEW, as I’d like to call it), because I really am extraordinarily impressed by the quality and efficiency by which these vehicles are made.

The Cayenne S E-Hybrid is a particularly difficult model to personalize, mainly because it’s bigger than the Cayman and Boxster programs we’ve seen in the past month. But Porsche Exclusive designers apparently didn’t have any trouble working on the Cayenne. The proof, after all, is in the pictures. The numerous Porsche options added to the Cayenne emphasizes its sporty and muscular appearance.

Porsche has made no indication on whether this Porsche Exclusive program for the Cayenne S E-Hybrid is reserved for a single buyer, just an example piece or about to go on sale.

2015 Porsche Cayenne S Palladium Metallic By Porsche Exclusive

2015 Porsche Cayenne S Palladium Metallic By Porsche Exclusive

Porsche Exclusive is running out of models to work on. That appears to be the case after Porsche’s design division released a new program for one of its models, namely the Cayenne.

The new program is the latest in a series of models that Porsche has been working on. Remember the Porsche Cayman from a few weeks ago? This time, the Cayenne gets treated to a comprehensive exterior and interior upgrade, highlighted by the Palladium Metallic exterior paint finish.

The color is not dramatic to the point that its style and character changes, but it is significant enough to provide a new look to the luxury SUV. If anything, the gold touches on the body and wheels of the Cayenne S bring out a fresh and regal visual appeal to the mighty Porsche SUV.

I admittedly don’t own a Cayenne, but if I did, this is the kind of look I want it to have. It’s classy and flashy at the same time. More importantly, it’s indicative of what Porsche Exclusive can do when you let it run around and work on any model it likes.

Video: Porsche Cayenne GTS Gets Some Works on the Nurburgring

Porsche was quite the busy bee in 2014. The brand-new Macan crossover was launched in the second quarter of the year, while a facelifted Cayenne surfaced a few months later. Additionally, Porsche is testing several updated sports cars, including the Boxster/Cayman duo, the 911 convertible and the upcoming GT3 RS. More recently, Porsche also brought the Cayenne GTS to the Nurburgring, signaling that its facelifted SUV lineup will soon include another member.

While the Germans unveiled the revamped Cayenne in July 2014, there was no word on the mid-level GTS and the range-topping Turbo S. The latter is still a well-guarded secret as of August 2014 — though we know we’ll get one at some point — but it seems development of the former is well underway with a prototype spotted trotting around the Nurburgring.

Details are slim as of this writing, but the video reveals Porsche has slapped a new set of bumpers on the GTS, along with the revised headlamps and taillights already seen on the 2015 Cayenne. A new exhaust system is present on the prototype as well, but the big news lies under the SUV’s hood. By the sound of it, the GTS is no longer motivated by the naturally aspirated, 4.8-liter V-8 that we all know and love. The Cayenne S has already ditched the large unit in favor of a twin-turbo, 3.6-liter V-6, and it appears the GTS did the same thing.

The unit delivers 420 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque in the Cayenne S, so it’s only natural to expect some extra oomph from the GTS-spec V-6. As usual, the SUV will include a tweaked suspension and interior upgrades.

2015 Porsche Cayenne

2015 Porsche Cayenne

The Porsche Cayenne crossed the Pond to the United States for the 2003 model year, right after the first-generation model was introduced in Europe. The S and the Turbo were the first versions to arrive in North American dealerships. The base V-6 model and the range-topping Turbo S followed up by 2006, when the entire Cayenne lineup became available to U.S. buyers. The second-generation SUV came to replace the first Cayenne in 2010, and brought to brand new models along with it. The lineup expanded to receive a hybrid model in 2011 and a diesel version in 2013, further increasing the SUVs popularity worldwide.

Going into 2015, the second-gen Cayenne is getting an extensive mid-cycle facelift that includes a lengthy list of visual changes, interior upgrades, and updated powertrains. Slightly more aggressive by design, the facelifted Cayenne is not only about added power. The German SUV also returns improved fuel economy, better performance, and its interior sports more luxury features than ever before. Find out more about it in our full review below.
