More technology, less weight, and a new turbodiesel
Chevrolet has pulled the covers off its all-new, 2019 Silverado 1500 half-ton pickup truck. While Chevy teased the truck back in December at the Texas Motor Speedway at Chevy’s centennial celebration, the full details only became available at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show. Chevy also made sure everyone knew the 2018 Detroit show marked 100 years since the brand launched its first pickup.
The 2019 Silverado is completely new and shares almost zero parts from the outgoing truck. Even the 5.3-liter and 6.2-liter V-8s are revised for increased efficiency. The truck’s fully boxed frame is now 88 pounds lighter but has 10 percent more torsional rigidity, and the truck’s overall weight has dropped 450 pounds when comparing crew cab V-8 models from 2018 and 2019. Chevy did this by using aluminum. Yes, after years of dogging Ford for building its trucks from recycled beer cans, Chevy has made the switch, too. But not every body panel made the transition – only the parts that swing, which includes the hood, doors, and tailgate. The rest is steel. This includes the bed floor, which Chevy says is made from higher-strength, roll-formed steel than before.

Chevrolet ZRX - The Raptor and TRX-Rivalling Off-Road Performance Truck That Chevy Desperately Needs
GM has been quite active in the pickup truck space since the beginning. It has even bifurcated its trucks between two brands – Chevrolet and GMC – and combined, both of them rake up pretty good numbers. Chevy brings in more sales as opposed to GMC and has managed to keep up with Ford and Ram in terms of models and trim levels on each of them. It even announced an electric Silverado that could arrive in a couple of years. However, the automaker has lagged in the case of a performance off-road truck. There are Silverado trims with off-roading prowess, but there’s no standalone model like the Ford F-150 Raptor and the Ram 1500 TRX.
There were rumors of Chevy working on one such product, but there’s still no concrete detail. It was rumored to be called the ZRX, but those were mere speculations. Chevy had trademarked the ‘ZRX’ moniker sometime back, but there seems to be no development on that front thus far. The automaker has announced a “MultiFlex” tailgate that will be available for the 2021 Silverado. There isn’t a lot known yet, but Chevy will drop more details about it on September 21.
New Info On the Chevy Silverado ZR2 Proves It Won’t Compete With the Ram 1500 TRX or Ford F-150 Raptor
Full-size performance off-road trucks are picking up heat lately and it has piqued the interest of truck manufacturers and aftermarket companies alike. There was just one significant production-truck – the Ford F-150 Raptor – in this niche until recently, but Ram joined the fray with the 2021 Ram 1500 TRX. We knew that Ram was working on the Raptor-killer even since it unveiled the TRX concept back in 2016, but there was also news about Chevy working on a product to take on these two.
However, Muscle Cars and Trucks has now reported that what we thought would be Chevy’s offering to the segment is just an off-road truck that won’t go up against the Raptor and the TRX.

Cadillac’s Giant Four-Cylinder Engine Explained
Back in 2019, General Motors introduced a new four-cylinder engine in the Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Realtree Edition
Chevrolet has brought back the Realtree Edition on the Silverado 1500 after a five-year hiatus. Based on the Custom Trail Boss, Chevy has collaborated with Realtree, a leading camouflage brand, once again after five years to come up with the Silverado 1500 Realtree Edition. The differences in this edition are purely aesthetic. The truck comes with camouflage graphics on the sides of the truck bed, hood, and inside the cabin.
2021 Chevrolet Silverado HD Carhartt Special Edition
Unveiled at the 2019 SEMA Show, the 2021 Silverado HD Carhartt Special Edition is, in fact, the road-going, street-legal offspring of the Silverado 2500 HD Carhartt concept car shown back in 2016. Only this time, you will be able to actually get one from your Chevy dealership, provided you show enough patience to wait until the fall of 2020 when deliveries are slated to kick off.
Details are scarce for the time being and the 12-month waiting window is certainly far from appealing, but there are plenty of reasons to jump for joy. The Silverado HD Carhartt Special Edition is based on the Silverado 2500 LTZ, which means that in theory, it should be available with a V-8 engine. The only question is which one, as Chevy is offering a choice of two V-8s for the LTZ: a 5.3-liter and a 6.2-liter.
2020 Chevrolet Silverado Midnight and Rally Editions
The State Fair of Texas doesn’t get as much attention as it deserves in the auto industry. It’s not a car show in the traditional sense, but it has hosted several important debuts in recent years. This year, the State Fair of Texas welcomes a handful of automakers, including Chevrolet and a pair of 2020 Silverado 1500 models that have been given the Midnight and Rally special edition monikers, respectively.
Both special edition versions of the 2020 Silverado will be available in Chevrolet dealerships by the end of the year, though interested customers can order their rides in the same dealerships next month. The automaker hasn’t announced pricing details, though past examples of the Silverado Midnight and Rally Editions have fetched north of $40,000 to $45,000, and that’s without options.
2019 Chevy Silverado 1500 - Driven
In the world of half-ton pickup trucks, Ford has emerged as the market’s technological innovator. The F-150 boasts lightweight aluminum all over its body and turbocharged “EcoBoost” engines under the hood, employing every bit of wizardry to maximize performance and fuel economy without diminishing capability. Meanwhile, the Ram 1500 has doubled down on decadent luxury, with a gorgeous cabin and smoother ride quality. And the redesigned 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500? What’s its specialty? Well. It’s a truck, too.
It’s easy to be harsh on a redesigned vehicle that doesn’t clearly move the needle from its predecessor. And the latest Silverado is the model’s second-straight cautious redesign. There hasn’t been a radically improved Silverado since 2007. Even some famously loyal pickup buyers appear to be shifting their allegiances, with Ram recently overtaking Chevy for the No. 2 sales slot.
All that being said, the 2019 Silverado remains a competitive truck in many respects. Like all the competition, it has a comfortable cabin with an available giant back seat, a quiet ride and tons of optional luxury gear. Like all the competition, it has absurd towing and payload limits that make a mockery of the “half-ton” moniker. And like the other leading full-size pickups, its available V8 engines deliver strong acceleration and surprisingly acceptable fuel economy. All this is to say that Silverado is in the same approximate league as the Ford and Ram. It just doesn’t have a particular standout specialty, even at similarly sticker-shock-inducing price points. Being basically OK at everything isn’t going to win many hearts, but neither is it a complete disaster — especially in a market segment with few models to choose from.
At $375,000, Is Hennessey’s Goliath 6x6 Truck an Aberration?
Underneath the Hennessey Goliath 6x6 sits a 2019/2020 Chevrolet Silverado, a truck that starts at $28,300 and can go up to $58,195 in its highest standard configuration. Hennessey is asking $375,000 for each Goliath 6x6 it churns out. By the way, only 24 such contraptions will leave the tuner’s backyard and John Hennessey, the company’s head honcho is adamant that the Goliath 6x6 will make “a huge statement everywhere our clients go.” Of course, this isn’t Hennessey’s first stab at the 6x6 niche as you can probably recall the $349,000 VelociRaptor truck developed on top of the Ford F-150 Raptor. But when we look at other, more expensive vehicles of similar ilk - think the $511,000 Mercedes-AMG G63 6x6, Hennessey’s creations begin to make sense, financially-speaking at least.
A Train Wreck Could Have You Waiting Longer For your New Jeep Gladiator, Jeep Wrangler, or Chevy Silverado
This is the saddest news we’ve heard all day. A train derailed in Nevada a couple of days back, and 33 train cars were damaged in the aftermath. The train was also ferrying brand-new Jeeps, Chevrolets, and GMCs, and they have all been wrecked; well, to an extent. The photos were released by the Lincoln County Sherriff’s Office and are quite disturbing for car enthusiasts. Fortunately, there were no casualties and injuries, but these beautiful vehicles getting damaged is quite disturbing in itself. The forces say the ’debris’ will be cleared out by July 13th. If you were expecting a delivery of your vehicle from these brands anytime soon around Utah, Nevada, and California, you can most certainly expect a delay.
2019 Chevy Silverado by Callaway
Chevy has been selling the Silverado for decades now. Although the company keeps updating the product frequently, and it serves quite well for the general folks, it does not have enough to please enthusiasts. The Silverado has some real powerful trucks in the form of the heavy duty ones, but there is no truck that is ’fast’; not even in the light pickup category. Ram and Ford have that covered with the Rebel TRX and the F-150 Raptor, but Chevy lags behind here (no, I don’t count the Trail Boss as a fast one). So, it was imperative for an aftermarket manufacturer to take over the reins and offer customers what they are looking for, and, Callaway has taken that position.
2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD High Country
Chevrolet has offered the Silverado pickup for over two decades now, but the automaker has almost a century’s experience in building them. The moniker was previously used for various versions of the Tahoe, Suburban, and C/K pickup trucks. Chevrolet sold almost 600,000 examples of the Silverado in 2018, which is quite impressive, but it is quite far from the pole position held by Ford. However, Ford is not the problem here. Ram has grown exponentially over the years and has stolen the Silverado’s thunder. Ram sold marginally more trucks than the bowtie in 2018. But, it looks like Chevrolet came armed this time. The 2020 lineup of the Silverado has intrigued quite a few folks, including me. This trim - The 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD High Country - is the best the automaker has to offer. Does it have it in it to take on the Blue Oval or Ram?
2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD LT
The civil war in the truck segment seems to be getting more and more intense every day. Ford, with the F-Series, has been at the zenith for as long as one can remember. It looked like Chevy was the one that could stop the Blue Oval with its offering called the Silverado. But over the years, the Bowtie lost steam and has capitulated to not just Ford, but also the underdog known as Ram. Call it hard luck or complacency on part of Chevrolet, but Ram actually trumped Chevrolet by a small margin to take the second spot on the sales chart for 2018. However, Chevrolet seems to have gotten back on track with the 2020 Silverado, and it expects to sell more than the 585,581 examples it sold in 2018.
Not Sure How to Proceed in Today’s Market, GM Announces Merger With Ford
As long as we can remember, GM and Ford have been hardcore rivals. But, since Mary Barra took over GM, the company has been struggling. Just last January, Mary Barra was caught off guard when asked about GM’s future, and her comments regarding where the brand is heading instilled everyone with fear: “Well, what I would say is we’ve been very clear. We believe in an all EV future. We have invested heavily in fuel cells as well, but beyond that, I don’t have anything specific to say. But I think if you look at where… our very strong statements are believing in all EV future… stay tuned.” This was barely even a coherent sentence, and it triggered some to believe that Barra is completely out of touch with the brand and what the next steps should be. Obviously, the answer is to build electric vehicles – one’s that don’t rely on fuel cells and those that are probably of the truck variety. Right around the same time Barra was fumbling for answers regarding GM’s electric future, Ford made the announcement that it was planning to electrify the F-Series, and that’s what leads us to our latest news: An insider from GM has told us that GM and Ford have been in secret talks discussing a merger of the two companies, and the first step in that is Ford building an all-electric Check Silverado atop the same chassis that will underpin the electric F-150. We never thought we’d see the day and Henry Ford is undoubtedly doing backflips in his grave, but GM is in serious trouble, and this is the brand’s only way out, it seems.

2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT Trail Boss LEGO
Chevrolet has teamed up with LEGO to create a full-sized brick version of the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT Trail Boss. The LEGO Group’s Model Shop in Enfield, Connecticut is responsible for the design and assembly of the monstrous LEGO Silverado. It’s made up of 334,544 LEGO pieces and weighs 3,307 pounds. Needless to say, completing this massive 20-foot build took some time and a lot of manpower. In total, 18 builders helped complete the life-sized truck, and more than 2,000 hours were consumed in the endeavor. The LEGO Silverado 1500 LT Trail Boss isn’t just for show, either. It was built in collaboration with Warner Bros. 2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD
The 2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD made its debut at the 2019 Chicago Auto Show as part of the third-generation lineage of Silverado-badged trucks. It follows in the footsteps of the Silverado 1500 revealed in 2018 in terms of technology and interior design, but features a unique exterior and enhanced capability. Both 2500 and 3500 versions are offered on the platform described as "the strongest, most capable ever."
Although it unveiled the HD’s design in late 2018, Chevrolet kept most of the important details in the vault. Now that it made its public debut, we know that it will be sold with a two-engine lineup and a new transmission. It’s also available in five trim levels, one of which is new, and 22 cab, bed, chassis, and driveline configurations. As of this writing, the Silverado HD offers best-in-class towing capability, but the upcoming Ford Super Duty, also set to break cover in Chicago, might take over with a better rating. GM launched a new Chevrolet commercial last week, and the video claims that the brand is more reliable than Ford, Honda, and Toyota. The ad has stopped airing after only a few days due to complaints from the competition, which challenged Chevy’s claims. And, rightfully so. Chevy has since removed the advertisement from the internet and television but claims that it was to focus on the new Silverado and not as a response to the video in question.

The official debut of the new 2020 Chevy Silverado HD is expected in February 2019 - probably at the Chicago Auto Show. Chevy, however, grew some balls and actually revealed first photos of the 2020 Silverado HD. Bask in the greatness of the new 2020 Silverado HD. Or don’t! The design turned out to be one of the most astoundingly courageous styling experiments in the industry. The front end looks so much “out there” that, from the looks of things, it seems that Chevy has done too much. GM designers are probably reliving the nightmare that they had with the introduction of the latest Camaro. Remember, that one received an “overnight” update after some massive hate from the whole freaking world.
The new Silverado HD, however, had to be as mad as it is.
"We set out to make a statement with the 2020 Silverado HD and wanted to visually capture the power and capability of the truck," Brian Izard, the pickup’s lead exterior designer, said. "The result is a truck that looks like a piece of heavy machinery with modern, chiseled finishes and customer-focused details."
Well, it certainly looks like a piece of machinery, but that is only one of its traits (to some alluring, to many incomprehensive). That represents a 0.2 percent increase in total sales compared to the first ten months of 2017. 2018 GM Defense Chevrolet Silverado ZH2 Concept
The Chevrolet Silverado ZH2 is a military, heavy-duty version of the popular Silverado pickup truck. Developed by General Motors’ new military defense unit, it’s powered by a next-generation Hydrogen fuel cell and advanced battery systems.

The 2019 Chevy Silverado Turbo Falls Short of Fuel Economy Expectations
The 2019 Chevrolet Silverado can be had with a new four-cylinder, turbocharged engine, however, the truck is now facing criticism for its poor fuel economy. According to the EPA, the Silverado with its new four-cylinder engine will deliver a combined economy of 21 miles per gallon, 20 mpg in the city, and 23 mpg on the highway.
2018 Chevrolet Silverado LTZ Concept
The fourth-generation Chevrolet Silverado broke cover in late 2017 with a brand-new design on the outside, all-new tech on the inside, and a range of drivetrain upgrades. Come 2018 and Chevrolet offers optional, dealer-available upgrades through its Performance and Accessories division. The Silverado LTZ Concept was created specifically to showcase some of these items before they go on sale.
Unveiled at the State Fair of Texas, the same city where the new-generation truck was introduced, the LTZ Concept is based on the LTZ Z71 trim and features three upgrades from Chevrolet Performance and eight items from the Chevrolet Accessories catalog.
