An aging monster living on borrowed time but still a decent choice on an overcrowded market
Dodge’s muscle SUV is in its eleventh year of production and it will probably be the last before it gets a new generation. The changelog happens to be with the base SXT getting seven seats as standard along with blindspot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. The brand decided to ax the SRT Hellcat trim with the beastly 6.2-liter supercharged HEMI V-8, which is a bit of shame.

The Dodge Durango’s Fate Draws Near as Big Changes Linger in the Distance
The current Dodge Durango has aged well in the last decade that it’s been on the market, mainly due to routine updates every few years, the most recent being in 2021. After recent reports from Automotive News suggested that the Dodge Durango – along with the Chrysler 300 – could be on verge of being discontinued, the internet went a little crazy. As it turns out, there was some truth there – the current Dodge Durango is on the verge of death, but it’s successor, if the latest reports are accurate, will fix just about the only thing that’s wrong with the current model.
2022 Dodge Durango Mopar Edition Debuts With Blue Styling Upgrades
The Mopar Dodge Durango joins a long list of Mopar special edition models, the last one being the Mopar 2021 Ram 1500 unveiled earlier this year. To keep this special edition Durango exclusive, only 250 units will be built for the North American market.
Dodge Durango Hellcat takes on the Camaro ZL1 and Mustang GT 5.0 Coyote
The Drag Racing and Car Stuff channel has put out yet another fun video. This time, a highly tuned Durango Hellcat goes up against a Camaro ZL1 and Ford Mustang in a couple of quarter-mile passes, at the Rockingham Dragway in North Carolina. The specs of the cars in contention are unknown, but it is highly unlikely that they’re stock.
Mid-Size SUV Battle: The Ford Explorer ST goes up against the Dodge Durango Hellcat SRT
Battle of the HEMI V8s: Dodge Durango SRT vs Dodge Durango Hellcat vs Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk
Although the performance SUV doesn’t really make any sense whatsoever, it is an entity that continues to be popular and exists. Automakers will keep churning out such vehicles until there is a demand for them. For some people, the performance SUV really is all the car that they’d ever need.
Which one amongst these family haulers from Stellantis is quickest, remains a hot topic, and what better place to find out than at the drag strip. The Wheels YouTube channel put out a video of the popular Dodge Durango Hellcat, take on a fourth-generation Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk and yet another Dodge Durango, but this time it’s the SRT model.

However, if you are a bit more traditional, then you just can’t go wrong with a wagon, can you? The Mercedes E63 S AMGcertainly fits that bill rather well. Can the C8 Corvette Beat The Three-Row Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat On A Drag Strip?
Hennessey has been quite active on its YouTube page lately. The aftermarket company is planning to infuse its famed HPE1000 package into the Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat. But, before the SUV went under the knife, Hennessey decided to race it stock with some other sports car. Recently, the company brought the Durango SRT Hellcat and the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 to the drag strip and raced them both. This time, it’s the family SUV versus the Chevy C8 Corvette. Can it make short work of the C8 ‘Vette?
Hennessey Wants To Give The Ram TRX and Durango SRT A Hellephant Swap
When you hear about a Hennessey build, you know it’s going to be fast and powerful. And it’s not just supercars, either, as the company has injected even SUVs and trucks with doses of steroids in the past and continues to do so. Recently, the company uploaded a video on YouTube wherein John Hennessey talks about his plan to plonk Mopar’s Hellephant engine into the Ram 1500 TRX and the Dodge Durango SRT.
Dodge Durango Hellcat Takes On A Shelby GT500 - Does AWD Give the SUV an Edge?
Hennessey Performance had two new visitors at its facility, both of which came to be tuned up to around 1,000 horses. One was a family SUV with a sports car alter ego called the Dodge Durango Hellcat, and the other one was a two-door, rear-wheel-drive sports car from Shelby called the GT500. Both makoverof 700 horses and took under four seconds to 60 mph from rest. These are the stock specs, in case you were wondering. So, before they were injected with steroids, the folks at Hennessey decided to race the two of them because, well, why not! Who do you think will win?
Can The Lamborghini Urus Stand Up Against The Likes Of The Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat and The Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk?
The sight of seeing SUVs rocket down a quarter-mile in a little over 10 seconds is exhilarating. Automakers have realized that people love performance SUVs and it could rake in big numbers for them. Take the Urus for instance. It has been the company’s best-seller since its launch. Even Dodge decided to let all hell break loose by throwing in a supercharged engine under its family SUV’s hood. Throw the Jeep Trackhawk in the mix and you have three of the best performance SUVs that money can buy today.
The folks at Throttle House brought them all together on a drag strip for some straight-line battles. The Urus has obliterated competition mercilessly so far, but can it reign over the mighty powerful FCA....I mean Stellantis twins?
2021 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat - Driven
Until 2020, the Dodge Durango was a family SUV with a sporty side to it. It came with a V-8 engine that churned out enough power to fulfill the adrenaline rush while also serving as a practical utility vehicle. For the 2021 model, however, Dodge upped the ante. As part of its process to plonk in the Hellcat engine in every product in its portfolio, the automaker transformed the Durango into a beast incarnate that just can’t be tamed. On paper, the Durango SRT Hellcat is now the most powerful production SUV. It can sprint to 60 mph from a standstill in 3.5 seconds. Isn’t that a wonderful and frightening sight at the same time?
People Are Going Crazy Over The 2021 Dodge Durango Hellcat
When Dodge launched the Durango’s 710-horsepower alter-ego, it took the auto world by storm. The automaker made it clear that it would be a limited-run model and production for the same would last for just six months. But, thanks to the crazy demand for this three-row monster, Dodge has decided to extend the production timeframe before taking the model off the assembly lines in June 2021, according to Mopar Insiders.
If 700 Horsepower Isn’t Enough, Hennessey Can Bost Your Dodge Durrango to 1000+ Horsepower
After coming up with the 6x6 version of the world’s fastest and quickest production pickup truck, the Ram 1500 TRX, there was a lot of curiosity surrounding Hennessey’s next project. As it turns out, the company chose the world’s most powerful production SUV this time to give it a typical Hennessey twist. The aftermarket company has announced that it will be coming up with a 1,000-plus-horsepower iteration of the 2021 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat.
The Durango SRT Hellcat Will Cost You Dodge Viper Money
Dodge has this weird obsession with cramming Hellcat power into almost everything it possibly can. It’s not necessarily a bad thing, and we’d be lying if we said that we weren’t stoked to the Ram 1500 TRX or the Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat. However, it’s becoming painfully clear that having Hellcat power isn’t for the weak of heart or for those with a small wallet. Case in point: The 2021 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat.
Your Chances of Getting a Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat Just Took a Nosedive
After various spy shots and a [teaser in February 2020 that hinted at a Durango Hellcat, we kind of knew that it was coming. But, Dodge did kind of dropped it on us out of nowhere,, and it was pretty damn impressive. A Durango with a supercharged, 6.2-liter, V-8 that delivers 710 horsepower and 645 pound-feet of torque wasn’t necessarily what we needed, but it damn sure was what we wanted. It can even get to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds and tops out at 180 mph – performance figures that were once limited to high-end sports cars and supercars not that long ago. Things were looking good, but now it seems that it might be a little harder to get a Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat that previously thought, thanks to a short production run.
2021 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat
The third-gen Dodge Durango has been on the market for almost a decade, and now Dodge has instilled it will Hellcat power. With 710 horses in a three-row family SUV, Dodge has put the Durango on a pedestal and has taken the center-stage in the segment. The Durango is now the most powerful factory-built SUV on the planet. For a machine this big to sprint to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds is a cardinal sin. But, what can we say; we still love it and are chuffed to bits with the announcement of the Dodge Durango Hellcat. One HELL of an engine, huh?
This Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat Pickup Is Begging to Fight the Ford Ranger Raptor
The 2021 Dodge Durango was launched a few days back and has been welcomed warmly by enthusiasts all around the globe. Dodge has set a cat among the pigeons in form of the 710-horsepower Hellcat engine under the hood of the 2021 Durango. This is certainly bound to reinvigorate the powerful SUV segment. However, it looks like the SUV could do well in another segmentl, thanks to a rendering by X-Tomi Design. X-Tomi has rendered the 2021 Dodge Durango as a pickup truck and we have fallen in love with it. With the Ranger Raptor enjoying some sort of a monopoly on the market, the Durango as a compact, powerful truck could rival it for supremacy. Who are you betting on?
The 2021 Dodge Durango Is About More Than a Facelift Thanks to the New 710-Horsepower SRT Hellcat Trim
The current-gen Durango has been in the running for a decade now, and it was high time for the fourth-gen to make its debut. However, the company announced that it’ll just be a facelift. But, after seeing the 2021 Durango “facelift”, we are not complaining because this is even better than the next-gen stuff.
Apart from the exterior and cabin upgrades, Dodge has added an SRT trim to the Durango’s lineup that brings with it the Hellcat engine. The Durango equipped with this mill will make a mammoth 710 horses that will allow the heavy family hauler to sprint to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds! Well, this a fourth of July present from FCA that we’ll gleefully accept.
Dodge Needs Money, So the Durango Hellcat is a Top Priority
Like most automakers these days, Dodge is bleeding money in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic that has gripped the whole world. And like most automakers, Dodge is reopening its business in an attempt to stem the tide and bring some much-needed cash flow back to its coffers. A big part of that plan, at least according to Mopar Insiders, is to prioritize the launch of the Dodge Durango.
Did Dodge Just Tease an Upcoming Durango Hellcat?
It’s the year 2020 and Dodge is still selling the bonkers Durango SRT, which can still pull off 0-60 mph sprints in 4.4 seconds. It’s also America’s most powerful SUV that comes with a three-row arrangement as standard thanks to a naturally-aspirated 6.4-liter HEMI V-8.
So, does the world really need a higher-performance Durango iteration? Not really but hey, shoehorning a Hellcat V-8 inside the Durango can’t go wrong, right? Especially since the transplant would be done in the confines of Dodge’s facilities under the close supervision of the brand’s mechanics and engineers, and not by your street-corner auto shop.
2020 Ford Explorer vs 2019 Dodge Durango
The Ford Explorer remains one of the most popular SUVs in America, but the previous-generation model had one thing going against it: age. It entered the market in 2011, and while a 2018 facelift injected some life back to the SUV, it was only a matter of time before Ford ultimately replaced it with a next-generation model. Well, that time has come. The sixth-generation Ford Explorer made its long-awaited debut at the 2019 North American International Auto Show, and it didn’t take long for the SUV to serve notice to its rivals. The Explorer is back, baby, and it’s back with a vengeance. That should serve as a warning to Dodge and its Durango SUV. Just like the Explorer is to Ford, the Durango is one of Dodge’s biggest moneymakers. Unlike the Explorer, the current version of the Durango is toiling on the back-end of its generational cycle. The next-generation Durango is coming, but there’s no specific timetable on when it’s poised to arrive. So as the all-new Ford Explorer flexes its muscles in the segment, the current Durango has to resist the Explorer rush, at least until the cavalry arrives. Is it up to the task against the all-new Ford SUV? Let’s find out.
The 2019 Durango Is Not Something You Can Just ’Dodge’ Away
The Durango has been one of the most successful products for Dodge. Currently, in its third generation, the hot-looking SUV gets refreshed for the 2019 model with some tasteful visual cues. With a lot more customization options now available, the Durango is looking to expand its base even further. Does it still have the steam to take on the younger line of SUVs?
Dodge revealed a slightly updated and, as usual, a rather appealing 2019 Dodge Durango. With subtle changes aimed to enrich the offering within all trim levels and with only superficial styling changes, the unibody SUV continues to be a rather formidable competitor to the Pilot and its likeness.
The company revealed an MSRP of $29,995 for the entry level 2019 Dodge Durango SXT with a 3.6-liter, V-6 engine.
The 2018 Dodge Durango Is Ready To Catch The Bad Guys
As consumers scoop up the latest and greatest four-wheeled creations to go about their daily lives, law enforcement agencies are also looking to upgrade their fleets. One of the latest entries in this space is the new cop-prepped Dodge Durango, which offers V-8 power and AWD to stick it to the perps.

The Dodge Durango GT Snarls at the Competition Thanks to the SRT-inspired Rallye Appearance Package
It’s been only two months since Dodge launched a new Mopar package for the Durango, and now there’s a new bundle on the table. While the Mopar pack was created for the range-topping SRT model, this upgrade is offered for Durango GT, which sits at the midpoint of the lineup. Called the Rallye Appearance Package, the new bundle is inspired by the sportier R/T and SRT models and was designed to give customers the fuel efficiency of the Pentastar V-6 and the looks of something powered by a V-8.
2018 Dodge Durango SRT By Mopar
SUV fans have been clamoring for a beefed-up version of the Durango SRT ever since Dodge launched the Challenger Hellcat. But it has yet to happen as of 2018. And I really don’t think that it will change anytime soon. Jeep is already offering the Cherokee Trackhawk above the SRT model, and I’m pretty sure FCA doesn’t want a re-bodied version of this model with a Dodge badge. But, if you’re not a Cherokee fan and you want a Durango SRT with a few special features, you’re going to have to settle for the Mopar upgrade that was unveiled at the 2018 Chicago Auto Show.
Mopar-made bundles for the Dodge Durango is nothing new; we’ve seen them in the past. But these new packages are a bit more comprehensive and include updates for both the exterior and interior, as well as the drivetrain. There’s no extra power to talk about, and this might be disappointing for some, but the performance exhaust and suspension are just enough to set Durango SRT apart from its standard siblings. And the body stripes and carbon-fiber trim add a certain degree of sportiness you don’t get in many SUVs.

4 Things to Know About Mopar’s Improvements to the 2018 Dodge Durango
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is ramping up its parts division to provide customers with tons of vehicle accessory choices. We’ve seen it with the 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL, but now at the 2018 Chicago Auto Show, both the 2019 Ram 1500 pickup and 2018 Dodge Durango are getting “Moparized.”
Mopar, the iconic parts and accessories division of Chrysler, is doing big things these days. For the 2018 Dodge Durango, Mopar has developed parts for four areas of the three-row SUV. Some are cosmetic while other add performance. So, here’s what you need to know about Mopar’s available upgrades for the 2018 Dodge Durango R/T and SRT trims.

Dodge Durango gets Hellcat Looks at Chicago Auto Show
Still feeling disappointed that Dodge doesn’t want to build a Hellcat version of the Durango? Well, you will soon be able to buy an SUV that looks like a Hellcat. Sort of. The Durango is getting new Mopar parts at the 2018 Chicago Auto Show, and the visual upgrades are interesting to say the least.
2018 Dodge Durango SRT
The Dodge Durango started life as a midsize, body-on-frame SUV in 1998 and became a full-size SUV for its second generation, which ran from 2004 to 2009. That second-gen model saw declining sales year after year, going from 137,148 sales for the 2004 model year down to just 3,521 for the 2009 model year. The Durango then fell out of production for 2010 (only 572 examples were sold that year), and by the time the 2011 model year came around, Dodge had redesigned the Durango into a full-sized unibody that was sportier than ever with a more upscale interior. Engine options for the current generation have been limited to a 3.6-liter Pentastar and Dodge’s 5.7-liter Hemi, but that is about to change now that Dodge is introducing the Dodge Durango SRT, which includes an even sportier exterior and interior package to go with a 6.4-liter Hemi (392 cubic-inches,) something that makes the Durango the fastest SUV in its class with an output of 475 ponies and 470 pound-feet of torque – that’s one mean machine.
If it seems to you like the Durango was ready to see its fourth-generation before it got yet another trim level, then I would have to say I agree. The current generation has been on the market since 2011 and was updated for the 2014 model year. But, FCA is trying to hold off on pushing out so many new-gen models and is instead focusing on coming up with new ways to bring interest to the models that are actually due for an update. The most obvious car this is happening to is the Dodge Challenger with its new SRT Demon, but the Durango is another one of those models that will soldier on for another year or two. But, at least you can now get it with that 6.4-liter Hemi wrapped in a very sexy package with room for six. With that said, let’s check this baby out and see what all it’s working with!
Updated 07/06/2017: Dodge has finally announced pricing for the Durango SRT. It starts out at $62,995 before options, taxes, and delivery. Check out the “Prices” section below to learn more about it, how it compares to other time levels, and the competition.

2018 Dodge Durango R/T
For years, the Durango R/T was Dodge’s flagship performance SUV. It came with 360 horsepower from the 5.7-liter Hemi V-8, a performance-tuned suspension and exhaust, rear- or all-wheel drive, and a racer appearance. But for 2018, the Durango R/T loses its crown to the 6.4-liter Hemi-powered Durango SRT. The big V-8 kicks out 475 horsepower, making the most powerful three-row SUV with an American badge. Thankfully Dodge isn’t letting the humbled Durango R/T be forgotten. It receives the same cosmetic upgrades found on the Durango SRT, namely the functional performance hood and front fascia.
These exterior updates aren’t mere cosmetic consolation prize. Both the hood and front fascia are aerodynamically tuned to better ingest cool air while extracting heat from the engine bay. Officially, these enhancements don’t improve the 5.7-liter’s horsepower or torque stats, but in practice, it’s likely the cooler intake temperatures and mild ram-air effect the Durango SRT’s cold-air duct system, combined with lower engine bay temperatures, help boost performance. Then again, Dodge would surely announce any performance gains. In addition to the new bodywork, the Durango R/T will be available in “B5 Blue,” the legendary electric hue only offered on Dodge’s SRT products. Other updates include a new T-handle gear shifter that replaces the rotary knob and a new sport steering wheel. Pricing will be announced closer to the 2018 Durango’s on-sale date in the third quarter of 2017.

NHTSA Investigating 1 Million Ram Pickups, Dodge SUVs for Rollaway Risk
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is investing nearly a million Ram pickup trucks and Dodge Durango crossovers over complaints registered against the rotary dial transmission shifter. The complaints allege vehicles roll away after being parked and point to the rotary electronic shifter as the culprit.
The news comes from Automotive News, which says FCA is cooperating with the NHTSA over the concerns. The NHTSA says it has reports of 25 crashes and nine injuries from owners claiming their vehicles rolled away after being parked. No deaths have been reported in relation to the rotary shifter issue. That is in contrast to FCA’s previous electronic shifter issues. Most notably, “Star Trek” actor Anton Yelchin was killed when his 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee rolled down his steep driveway, pinning the 27-year-old against a brick pillar of his security fence in June of 2016.
Unlike the Jeep Grand Cherokee, Dodge Charger, and Chrysler 300, the Ram trucks and Dodge Durango in question uses the rotary dial rather than the joystick-like gear shifter. However, this now puts both versions of FCA’s electronic shifter into question.
The NHTSA is specifically investigating the 2013 through 2016 Ram 1500 pickup and 2014 through 2016 Dodge Durango. Both vehicles are equipped with the ZF-scoured, eight-speed automatic transmission that requires an electronic shifting mechanism. The rotary shift knob was designed by FCA.
Jaguar Land Rover also uses the same transmission with a similar rotary knob. The NHTSA is including roughly 39,000 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque and Jaguar XF vehicles within its investigation after seven reports of rollaway crashes. Four injuries were associated with the reports. The affected model years include the 2012 through 2014 JLR products.
FCA is urging owners of these vehicles to set the parking brake before exiting the vehicle. We’ll bring you more information as we have it.

2016 Dodge Durango Shaker concept
Launched in 2010 for the 2011 model year, the third-generation Durango arrived in showrooms a full year after Dodge discontinued the nameplate. The relaunch brought a significantly redesigned SUV with a more upscale interior. While the 5.7-liter V-8 soldiered on with updates, the 3.7-liter V-6 was replaced by the 3.6-liter Pentastar, and the 4.7-liter V-8 was dropped from the lineup. The SUV received its mid-cycle facelift for the 2014 model year, when it gained sportier features, an eight-speed automatic transmission, and redesigned taillights.
Praised for its spacious third-row seats, reliable infotainment system, solid performance of the V-8, and strong towing capacity, the third-gen Durango has been doing quite well sales-wise since the facelift. Although figures aren’t as good as the early 2000s, the Durango sold more than 60,000 units a year in 2014 and 2015, prompting Dodge to add more features with each model year. More recently, rumors of a high-performance version surfaced the Interwebz, backed by spy shots of a more aggressive looking SUV. The production model has yet to be unveiled as of November 2016, but Dodge showcased a higher-performance Durango concept at the 2016 SEMA Show.
Dubbed Durango Shaker concept, it features an array of Mopar accessories, as well as elements usually offered on muscle cars, including the Shaker hood. Dodge didn’t say whether the concept previews an actual road-going SUV, but it’s presence in Las Vegas will definitely get Mopar fans excited. Let’s find out more about it in the review below.

2015 has been a great year for the automotive industry, bringing us everything from faster-than-ever performance cars, to roomier and more efficient family vehicles, to semi-autonomous rides, and new-generation electric and
powered models. We also saw a large number of fascinating new concept cars that will become production vehicles in the future, while several automakers reached benchmarks that seemed impossible a decade ago.
However, 2015 was also a year that saw many models being discontinued here in the United States. While some are aging models that are being replaced by new nameplates, other vehicles were simply phased out due to slow sales or because they were developed for niches that are no longer feasible in today’s changing market.
With the year now coming to an end, TopSpeed is taking a look back at the discontinued cars we said goodbye to in 2015. But, rather than include all the models that got the axe last year, I focused on those that most of us will miss and the vehicles that, at some point in their life cycle, made a significant impact on the market. Find out more about it below and tell us which model you will miss the most in the comments section.

As versatile and spacious as today’s crossovers and SUVs are, there really aren’t many to get excited about until you start factoring in some of the high-performance (and high-dollar) German offerings. The key exception, of course, is the 2015 Dodge Durango R/T, which combines a meaner exterior and sport-inspired interior with the size and performance advantages that the Durango already holds over its competition. For 2015, Dodge adds a handful of new updates to the R/T trim level, and while the changes are relatively minor, they help to set this trim apart from the rest of the Durango lineup.
Dodge essentially created the three-row, mid-size SUV market in 1998 when it introduced the Dakota-based Durango, and today, the Dodge Durango continues to bridge the gap between smaller mid-size crossovers and full-size SUVs.

Every former relationship has its baggage, and leaves its scars. For some of us, given our taste in females, that’s pretty literal. For others, like Chrysler, there was never any leaving Mercedes without at least a few black eyes. Some have questioned whether Chrysler’s trade-up to Italian Fiat was a trade-up at all — but after this, those questions should be pretty well settled.
Last year, Chrysler issues a recall for 189,000 SUVs in the Dodge Durango and Jeep Cherokee lines for the 2011 to 2013 model years. As of Friday of this week, that recall has expanded to a whopping 656,000 vehicles worldwide. The core of the problem is a bad fuel pump relay in the Totally Integrated Power Module; the relay is subject to getting hot, deforming and failing, which cuts off the fuel pump and causes the vehicle to stall. Originally, they assumed the problem was limited to gas-engine models; however, further testing has shown that a further half-million or so foreign-market diesels could experience the same failure.
Still, all things considered, a bad relay isn’t that big a deal. Worse things have happened. So, why does it matter? Read on.

Dodge is now rolling out yet another "Blacktop" edition vehicle, this time it’s the Dodge Durango. Characterized by a more sinister appearance, the Blacktop Package adds features like glossy-black wheels, black exterior badging, body colored fascia panels, and semi-smoked headlights. The 2014 Durango Blacktop will be no exception.
The new accent package will be available on the Durango SXT, Limited, and R/T models and will hit showrooms starting in October 2014. For SXT trim level Durangos, the Blacktop package will add gloss-black 20-inch wheels, a matching gloss-black crosshair grille, grille surround and side mirrors, black headlight bezels and exterior badging, dual rear exhaust with bright tips, and body-colored fascia and moldings where chrome would normally reside. It creates one of the boldest looks on any current SUV. For the lower-level SXT trim package, checking the Blacktop box will cost an additional $1,590.
Druangos with the Limited trim package get all the same gloss-blak bits as the SXT, plus swanky HID headlights and LED daytime running lights with the Blacktop Package installed. Checking the Blacktop box with the Limited trim costs $1,990, or $400 more than the Blacktop Package on the SXT, mainly because of the HID headlights.
The Durango R/T only gains $295 to its MSRP to upgrade to the Blacktop package and gets gloss-black 20-inch aluminum wheels, gloss-black crosshair grille with matching grille surround and gloss-black badging.
All three trim are available in one of five colors: Billet Silver, Bright White, Brilliant Black, Granite Crystal, or Redline Red.
Both the SXT and Limited trims come powered by the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6, which gains five horsepower from the new Blacktop Package’s exhaust, while the R/T model uses the 5.7-liter HEMI V-8

Happy Thursday, friends. We know it can be a slightly somber day for many of the F1 fans out there, but we are here to make your day a little better. It is time for the TopSpeed Podcast.
Not only do we have the return of Mark to our podcast shenanigans, but we have video (after the jump) up and ready to post at the same time as audio. Yay us!
This week’s show returns to our traditional format with the Weekly wheels coming first. I talk about a Buick LaCrosse, Mark discusses the Dodge Durango and Justin tries to mercilessly bash the Acura TL.
Since Mark just got back form the drive of the all-new 2015 Hyundai Genesis we spend a good chunk of time discussing this new luxury performance machine. Afterwards we hit some more traditional news stories that include the first reviews and videos of the Ferrari LaFerrari, upgrades coming to the 2015 Chevrolet SS and the revival of Fisker.
We had a pretty solid Q/A segment that includes stories of our past hooliganisms. how we would love to destroy cars, and we had a question about my GT-R drive.
We finish the show with Own, Drive, Burn and a trio of Batmobiles.
We hope everyone enjoys the show, and as always please send us any comments, questions or Own, Drive, Burn suggestions you have. You can reach us by email at [email protected], you can find us on Twitter @TopSpeedPodcast, or you can just sound off in the comments below.

Thundering around town in a three-row SUV isn’t typically an exciting event. Slow and cumbersome with loads of body roll and understeer can make for a rather uninspiring trip. Then again, the refreshed 2014 Dodge Durango isn’t a typical SUV.
Coated in Granite Crystal Metallic paint with matching 20-inch rims, blacked-out windows, color-keyed bumpers and grille, and that ‘racetrack’ LED taillight fixture out back give this bad boy a snarling bad attitude. Equipped with the Rallye Appearance Package, this Durango seems to hold up an inappropriate gesture to any sneering onlookers.
Get on this bad boy’s good side, however, and you’re coddled like a king – even in the third row. The revised interior for 2014 is much improved over last year and includes numerous refinements. There’s an all-new steering wheel with standard paddle shifters controlling the standard TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic, a reworked center stack with the optional 8.4-inch Uconnect system, and a large seven-inch TFT display within the gauge cluster.
Though this Dodge is refreshed for 2014, all the good stuff from its 2011 total makeover is still present. The killer exterior looks, the loads of room in the second and third rows, its two optional engines, and all-wheel-drive set-up are among the most notable features in the Durango’s returning repertoire.
I recently spent a week with this beastly SUV, doing everything from commuting around and hauling kids, to blasting around cloverleaf interstate on-ramps. Head past the jump for my full run-down.

The 2014 Dodge Durango Special Service Vehicle returns with some new and updated features that help it fight crime, fires, or whatever else you can throw at it. Available for police, fire, and general fleet customers, the full-size SUV offers best-in-class power and an array of new dashboard gadgetry that includes TFT and touch screen displays.
Offered with either the 3.6-liter, Pentastar V-6 or the 5.7-liter, HEMI V-8, the Durango SSV comes with Chrysler’s new eight-speed, rotary-dial-controlled, transmission. Both engines lay down impressive stats, but on opposite ends of the spectrum. The V-6 is estimated to get 25 mpg and have a range of 600 miles; meanwhile, the HEMI can tow 7,400 pounds.
Expecting the Durango SSV would get abused, Dodge outfits them with heavy-duty brakes, heavy-duty battery, a larger-output 220-amp alternator, heavy-duty water pump, engine oil cooler, and a load-leveling suspension. Other options include skid plates on AWD models, backup camera, tow package, engine block heater and Uconnect.
All SSV Durangos have their third row seats removed for added cargo room, and come with extra under-floor storage compartments. Illuminating the interior is a red and white dome lamp while the outside gets the Durango’s standard LED daytime running lamps and rear ‘race track’ taillights. It also comes prewired for an A-pillar spotlight.
Standard Electronic Stability Control, electronic roll mitigation, Hill-start Assist, Trailer-sway Control, Rain Brake Support, and Ready Alert Braking help keep the Durango’s shiny side up while chasing perps and putting out fires.
Dodge is taking orders for the 2014 Durango SSV and production is already underway at the Jefferson North Assembly Plant in Detroit.

Anchorman 2’s Ron Burgundy is rocking a new Durango R/T in the latest set of hilarious ads from Dodge.
There’s a whole series of ads featuring Burgundy tell us what makes the Durango such a special ride. In addition to boasting a 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine that delivers a total of 360 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque, Burgundy also touts the Durango’s standard ‘thermoplastic’ glovebox door.
Ron calculates the standard dashboard cubby’s size and versatility. The glovebox boasts of a 0.1 cubic feet of storage, a 12-volt light bulb, and can comfortably fits two turkey sandwiches.
Only Ron Burgundy can deliver the 1980s gameshow feel of Anchorman 2, in theaters this winter.

We knew that Dodge would be offering an updated version of its Durango SUV at the 2013 New York Auto Show for quite some time now, but today the redesigned Durango SUV has been officially unveiled in the Big Apple.
Just two years removed from its re-introduction onto the market, Durango received a series of updates that made the ultimate "no compromise" SUV even better. Numerous changes have been made in order to update the SUV’s design, capability and functionality, but the most impressive feature is the addition of the new eight-speed automatic transmission - a first for its market segment.
The 2014 Dodge Durango will be put on sale in the third quarter of 2013. Customers will have to choose between five trim levels, each offering a different level of customization: SXT, Rallye, Limited, R/T and Citadel.

Dodge is expanding its Blacktop lineup with the addition of a new special edition based on the Durango. The new Durango Blacktop Edition is based on the Rallye and the R/T trim levels, and adds $295 to the SUV’s total price.
The model can be ordered in Bright White, Brilliant Black, Granite Crystal, Billet Silver and Redline Red, and is combined with a distinctive gloss-black crosshair grille and gloss-black 20-inch aluminum wheels with gloss-black center caps.
For the interior, the Blacktop models receive premium Digital Suede seat inserts complemented by Capri bolsters and red accent stitching. A power 12-way driver’s seat with power lumbar is available for an additional $595.
Under the hood, the Durango keeps the usual 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine that delivers a total of 295 horsepower on the Rallye models and a 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine that produces a hefty 360 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque on the R/T versions.
The Dodge Durango has never really been one of the most popular SUVs in the market. Sometimes we automotive media even tend to forget it’s around. But the Durango certainly has its own group of enthusiasts that love them and buy a new one every few years, and rightfully so. The Durango has recently morphed into one of the better looking body-on-frame SUVs available, as well as one of the most utilitarian SUVs remaining on the market.
All of that aside, Dodge and parent company, Fiat, have decided that the Durango has run its course and it’s time for it to ride off into the sunset. There is no need to mourn its death, as its axing will bring about yet another cult classic that will don the same underpinnings of the outgoing Durango. This new model, according to an interview with Fiat CEO, Sergio Marchionne, by Automobile Magazine, will be dubbed the Jeep Wagoneer.
Yup, after nearly two decades have passed since the Grand Cherokee replaced it; the Wagoneer name is again being uttered by the brass at Jeep. With the Durango reportedly going the way of the dodo bird in 2016, we assume that the Wagoneer will arrive sometime in the 2015 model year to give it some time to catch on before cutting the Durango altogether.
In the same interview, Marchionne also let us know that Dodge will axe the Avenger for the second time, in 2014. This time around, the Avenger lasted only five model years, one year less than its original version. We were shocked to even see it return, so seeing it disappear is no surprise at all, despite that it was far less ugly than its original rendition.
As soon as we can get a hold of some info on the upcoming Wagoneer, we will update you further.
Dodge’s Charger Pursuit is already a huge success among the American police officers, and today the company has revealed the new Durango Special Service - a vehicle designed for both the police fleet or fire departments and fleet customers. Dodge will start taking orders now and deliveries will begin in the second quarter of 2012.
Just like with the standard Durango, the new Special Service vehicle will be offered in rear- or all-wheel drive configurations and with a standard Pentastar 3.6-liter V-6 engine and available 360 HP 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine. However, compared to the standard car, this special vehicle has received a heavy-duty brake package, heavy-duty battery, larger-output 220-amp alternator and heavy-duty water pump and engine oil cooler.
For the interior Dodge has added dome lamp and headliner, spot lamp wiring prep and the deletion of the third row of seats for more cargo capacity.
"We’re incredibly excited to add the Dodge Durango Special Service to our line-up of law enforcement vehicles," said Peter Grady, Vice President of Network Development and Fleet Operations. "Adding Durango to our current Dodge Charger Pursuit and Ram 1500 Special Service vehicles allows us to offer a full range of fleet sedan, SUV, and truck options to law enforcement and government agencies."
The Dodge Durango may not be one of our first candidates as far as tuning programs are concerned - we reserved that right for the Viper - but we certainly aren’t complaining with what Mopar Underground did with this SEMA-bound special edition Dodge Durango Tow Hook.
Immediately, the SUV’s four-coat orange and satin-black color scheme attracted our attention, as did the healthy infusion of styling upgrades done on the SUV. In addition to the fancy pants paint finish, the Durango Tow Hook also gets a piano black split-crosshair grille, a satin-black roof, fascia accents, hood graphics, and a set of 22" twin-spoke forged Superalloy wheels wrapped in Pirelli tires. The Dodge SUV also has a custom and performance-increasing mandrel bent exhaust system featuring Corsa components and a lowered suspension that cuts the SUV’s ride height by 25 mm.
Meanwhile, the Durango Tow Hook’s interior picks up from where the exterior left off with a variety of high-quality Mopar components, including black, perforated Mopar Katzkin leather seats that come with orange leather trim and orange stitching and piping. The seat inserts are covered with Perforated Barracuda suede covers while suede bolsters with matching orange accent stitching and piping provide visual treats for the seats. The orange treatment continues with a leather trim, stitching, and piping on the center armrest while the door panels come with orange stitching and a silver metal brush trim. The SUV also has a new SRT steering wheel, black chrome trim around the vents, and piano-white trimmed radio/HVAC and center console bezels, completing the entire dress-up for the Durango Tow Hook.
Toyo Tires will be bringing a whole fleet of vehicles to the SEMA Auto Show, featuring four customized machines that will be part of the headline act at the world’s biggest aftermarket auto event.
As part of their Ultimate Ride Sweepstakes, Toyo Tires will be bringing a tricked out 2011 Dodge Durango that will not only be in attendance, but will also be given away to a lucky winner.
The SEMA-bound Durango will be a Mineral Gray Metallic Heat Edition 4×4 that comes with plenty of tuning set-ups, including a new T-REX four=piece flat black mesh grille with a UFC logo on it. The Durango will also have a Magnaflow exhaust system, a custom Alpine Audio entertainment system courtesy of Mega Motorsports, a black leather upholstery with contrasting blue stitching from Roadwire, and a new set of 22" Savini Forged SV28c wheels wrapped around a set of Toyo Proxes ST II tires.
Performance modifications are still being kept under wraps. Nevertheless, this Durango will still carry a powerful 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine that produces 295 horsepower and 260 lb/ft of torque. Either way, you’re getting something that’s well worth your time.
So how do you win this one-of-a-kind Dodge Durango? All you need to do is attend the SEMA Auto Show and you will be given the opportunity to scan a QR code, making you eligible to win a piece of Durango awesomeness.
True to its promise of reinventing itself for the new year, Dodge is coming to the 2011 Chicago Auto Show with a roster of R/T edition models, one of which is the hulking mass of power, the Dodge Durango R/T. Joining the Durango R/T at show will be four other R/T models, including the Charger R/T, the Challenger R/T, the Grand Caravan R/T, and the Journey R/T. Incidentally, the last two models are the first of its line to be outfitted with Dodge’s road & track setup.
Similar to the Durango Heat revealed earlier, the Durango R/T comes with a bevy of aesthetic improvements and performance modifications. Essentially, both the Durango R/T and the Durango Heat are the same models except for one pretty important aspect: engine performance. Regardless of the different powertrains, Dodge has set high expectations for both the Durango R/T and the Durango Heat within the full-size SUV segment.
At the Chicago Auto Show, we’ll get a pretty good idea on whether these two gnarly machines are up to the task.
Details on the Dodge Durango R/T after the jump.
It’s a new year for Dodge and the American automaker is determined to start the year off on the right foot. At the 2011 Chicago Auto Show, Dodge will be unveiling a new and affordable performance package for the 2011 Durango, one that will henceforth be called the Dodge Durango Heat.
Though it doesn’t come with the same HEMI powertrain of the performance-oriented Durango R/T, the Durango Heat does come with some attractive features of its own. First is an aggressive styling that underlies its inner beast. Then there’s the new Pentastar V6 engine, which, despite its less powerful engine compared to its R/T alter ego, promises to make up for it in terms of fuel efficiency.
According to Ralph Giles, Dodge’s president and CEO, the Durango Heat "is about handling performance and a street presence that puts the sport in sport-utility."
Wiser words have never been spoken.
Head over after the jump to find out more about the Dodge Durango Heat.
Dodge’s roster of tuned-up vehicles headed for SEMA wouldn’t be complete without an intimidating presence, a gargantuan of sorts that looks all the more imposing when you add some customizations to it.
This year, the 2011 Dodge Durango Citadel “Black and Tan’ fits that bill to a tee. Not content with the standard Durango trim, Dodge, together with tuner extraordinaire Mopar Underground, took the hulking SUV, outfitted it with trims, gave it a new dimensions, shored up its package, and shined it up really nice. The result is this monolithic beast of an SUV that’s been appropriately designated as the Durango Citadel “Black and Tan”.
Continued after the jump.
Photos of the new 2011 Dodge Durango have been coming out very slowly. Not that we’re in a huge hurry to see an updated version of a pretty awful vehicle. We’ve seen the exterior before, but today, Chrysler has released an image of the new Durango’s interior.
The new Durango differs from the Jeep Grand Cherokee in a few very important ways. All the controls and gizmos are housed on the dashboard, which will give owners more room to store things in the center console.
The two-tone leather interior is fairly nice and the extra lighting touches really set the car off. We like the fact that there is enough chrome to keep lovers of the material happy, but not too much to make it gaudy. Overall, it looks far more luxurious than the old model, or any other Dodge product currently on the market.
We need to play around in it first, but it seems that Chrysler is taking its interior design seriously.
