The 2020 RS6 Avant is also the first of its kind to feature a hybrid drivetrain thanks to a 48-volt system. Granted, it’s not a full-fledged hybrid, but it’s an essential step toward electrification. In June 2021 ABT was presenting the ‘Johann Abt Signature Edition’” - a model based on the Audi RS6 Avant built to commemorate the company’s 125th anniversary. It was limited to only 64 units, and, because of its 790 horsepower under the hood, it enjoyed huge success. Actually, it was sold out in no time.
At the customers’ request, ABT is offering a successor for it: the RS6-S. The new model was launched at the same time as the RSQ8-S and will be available starting January 2022.

Why the yelling, you’re wondering? Well, Audi’s RS history spans over a quarter of a century, and it is only now that the U.S. gets the RS6 Avant for the first time. Now, the 2020 Audi RS6 Avant is an absolute monster regardless of how you look at it - design or spec-wise. Its 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 engine makes 591 horsepower (441 kW) and 590 pound-feet of torque (800 Nm). On asphalt, these numbers generate 0-62 mph (100 km/h) sprints ticked in 3.6 seconds and electronic nanny-restricted top speeds of 155 mph (250 km/h).
Also responsible for such crisp performances is the eight-speed Tiptronic transmission with launch control mode and Audi’s notorious Quattro permanent all-wheel drive complemented by wheel-selective torque control and a sport differential. You get the point - beastly specs for a beastly machine. But beastliness has been embedded in the RS6 Avant’s DNA since the model’s inception back in 2002, as you are about to find out.

While Audi surprised the motoring world with the introduction of the diesel-powered S models some time ago, its Audi Sport GmbH subsidiary shares the first info about the next generation of the RS models. We only have one official photo to go after, but it is enough to disclose what Audi Sport plans to do. The Germans will gift us with up to six fantastic RS models in the future including the likes of RS Q3, RS Q3 Sportback, RS7 Sportback, RS6 Avant, Audi RS Q8, and RS4 Avant facelift.
Maintaining the exclusivity and extreme approach to car design, Audi Sport GmbH will honor 25 years of RS history with six new, super-competent models. Never before have we witnessed such a comprehensive list of RSs in one place. While all of them will be available in Europe at basically the same time, Americans won’t be as lucky. Do not expect to see the RS Q3 Sportback here. Expect, however, to see the Audi RS6 Avant. Excitement ON about that one. It will be one of those bizarrely fast wagons. Something you just have to like.

The Audi RS6 Avant is a 605-horsepower machine of epic proportions. Unfortunately, the RS6 Avant isn’t available in the U.S. That leaves us in a bit of an emotional pickle when we see videos like this. For the record, the Audi RS6 in this video isn’t your standard RS6. It’s been tuned to produce a staggering 1,012 horsepower, and as you might expect, it showed out in ways that only a 1,012 horsepower Audi RS6 can.

After a short teasing campaign, the German tuner Abt revealed their newest work of art. Actually, “work of mad.” Based on top of the already frighteningly fast Audi RS6, Abt showcased the RS6-E Hybrid Concept, a car featuring a 4.0-liter, twin-turbocharged, V-8 and a freaking 288 horsepower electric motor strapped to the transmission.
Please welcome the first hyper-wagon with 1,004 horsepower. Of course, it had to be an Audi.

The Audi RS Avant super wagons aren’t available in the U.S., but that doesn’t mean the status quo isn’t going to change. Audi is open to bringing its rip-roaring machines to the land of milk and honey; it just needs to make a good business case for it. In that vein, fans of the RS 4 and RS 6 Avants can do their part to convince Audi by “writing letters” to the German automaker. Tongue-in-cheek hints aside, these letters could go a long way in establishing a viable marketplace for both super wagons.
Audi May Bring RS Avant Models To The U.S. But It’s A Reach
Who doesn’t love a fast wagon? We’re certainly pretty big fans, and we can’t help but dribble a bit when considering the prospect of getting into something like Audi’s line of RS Avants. Now, it looks like the Four-Ring brand is actually considering bringing these quick-’n-practical machines stateside. Maybe. Hopefully? All told, the brand isn’t ruling it out - we’ll take it.

John Olsson’s New Ride is A Two-Faced RS6 With Sinister Intentions
Jon Olsson is known for his love of cars and owning some of the most desirable custom-built exotics in the world. The Swedish alpine ski racer is particularly fond of the Audi RS6 Avant. He once owned a heavily tuned RS6 Avant that met an untimely end when it was stolen and burned to a crisp. Not one to be unnerved by the circumstances that befell his ride, Olsson bought a new RS6 Avant before turning it over to ABT Sportsline for a little tuning job. The result is the Audi RS6 Phoenix.
2017 Audi RS6+ by ABT Sportsline
This time last year, ABT Sportsline was preparing its involvement at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, and one of the cars that it was presenting was the Audi RS6 Avant. It’s funny then that exactly a year later, the German tuner is back in Geneva and one of the cars it’s bringing with it to the auto show is… the Audi RS6 Avant. But before you start screaming “recycle,” it’s important to know that this isn’t last year’s program. In fact, it’s different in a lot of ways, starting with its name: the Audi RS6+ Avant.
Okay, the “+” is the only thing different with the name, but let it be said that, for better or worse, there are a lot of differences between last year’s program and this new one. This program, for example, has a more rounded aerodynamic package than last years. On the other hand, last year’s engine upgrade program - believe it or not - resulted in more power for the RS6 compared to this year’s engine upgrade program. Weird, right?
Most importantly, though, the Audi RS6+ isn’t just made up of a tuning kit like it was with last year’s offering. This version of Audi’s stately wagon is actually a special edition model that’s part of the German tuner’s lineup for the 2017 staging of the Geneva Motor Show. Only 50 units of the RS6+ will be built with the first production of the 50 being the one that will attend the show.
So if somebody you know wonders what the “+” is for in the car’s name, remind them that this creation by ABT Sportsline isn’t a traditional tuning kit. Instead, it’s a tuning kit developed specifically for this car with the intent to sell said tuned cars in very limited numbers. Makes sense now, right?

Top Gear Magazine Drag Races Two High-Powered Wagons: Video
I love it when a vehicle does something unexpected. Just a few examples might include a school bus that does a wheelstand all the way down the 1320, or a mud-eating Smart Fortwo that crushes off-road, or a wagon with enough power to smoke a sports car. Unfortunately, those first two take a little extra wrench time, but if it’s a cargo-hauling five-door speed machine you’re after, ze Germans have the answer – several, in fact. Top Gear Magazine recently got its hands on two of them for a straight-line runway showdown, and the result is this two-and-a-half minute video.
In the red corner, we have the Audi RS6 Avant, which comes loaded with a 4.0-liter V-8 boosted by two turbos for 552 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque, all of which gets routed to the pavement via the Four Ring’s quattro AWD system. In the black corner is the Mercedes-AMG E63 S Estate, which also gets a twin-turbo V-8, but ups displacement to 5.5-liters and increases output to 577 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque. Only the rear axle provides the traction.
Clearly, the Audi has the advantage off the line, as the Merc will no doubt scramble to put down all that muscle from a standstill. Once in motion, however, the Audi will start to lose ground to the more powerful AMG missile.

2016 Audi RS6 Avant by ABT Sportsline
Estate sedans, or station wagons as they’re otherwise referred to, have often been perceived as family cars. But over the past few years, an influx of high-performance wagons have invaded the market. One of these models is the Audi RS6, which packs, among other things, a 4.0-liter TFSI V8 engine that spits out 560 horsepower and 517 pound-feet of torque. Impressive, right? Well, that depends on who you ask because if that question was posed to ABT Sportsline, the answer would be “not quite.”
The German tuner maybe impressed with the RS6 Avant, but as a company that has been around for 120 years, it’s predisposed to always think of ways to make the car better. Sure enough, ABT Sportsline did just that when it presented its latest tuning program for the RS6 Avant at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show.
The kit is typical of what you’d expect to come from ABT Sportsline. It has an aerodynamic package, dressed up interior, new set of wheels, and most importantly, an engine upgrade that puts the wagon’s power output into the realm of today’s supercars. It seems weird to think that a wagon is capable of mind-numbing performance numbers, but given that Audi already gave it a V-8 engine, it would’ve been an even bigger surprise if ABT Sportsline left the engine alone.
Ultimately, this RS6 Avant is so far removed from the perceptions attributed to station wagons that you might as well treat it as a supercar hiding in a wagon’s clothing. The only downside is that the German tuner is only building 12 of these babies to commemorate its 120th anniversary. Seems a little low for a car with some historical ties, right?

Rumors about the automotive market seem to be flying around a lot lately. In fact, it seems like we car guys always have something to talk about. Today it’s a rumor that appears to be coming directly out of Germany. As speculation would have it, Audi is planning to add an Allroad variant of the RS6 to its lineup.
Details are pretty thin at this point, and Audi has yet to mention anything about it. We do know that Volkswagen AG recently announced that it would be cutting back, so we didn’t expect to see a new project so soon. A model like the RS6 Allroad would sit in a niche market, so it seems like a weird project to come about now – with the all the drama VAG has on its hands right now, anyway. Then again, with a potential release date of Fall 2016, the RS6 Allroad could have been in the works before VAG’s world came crashing down. In that case, you couldn’t blame the company for capitalizing on money already invested in development.
Only time will tell if the rumor has any truth to it, but that doesn’t stop us from speculating on what an RS6 Allroad would look like. That said, we’ve put together a rendering high-performance, high-riding Audi. Should the rumor turn out to be true, we believe it will look similar to the images you’re looking at now. At the 2015 Frankfurt Auto Show, Audi unveiled the 2016 S8 Plus, a beefed-up sedan with 605 horsepower at its disposal and a 0-to-62 sprint that leaves behind not only the Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG, but also prominent sports cars such as the Aston Martin Vanquish or the BMW M4. As we move closer to 2016, Audi took the same drivetrain and dropped it in the RS6 Avant and RS7 Sportback. Unlike the S8, however, the RS6 and RS7 didn’t receive a "Plus" badge. Instead, they were launched using "Performance" monikers.
Naming aside, the RS6 Avant Performance marks the return of Audi’s high-performance wagon after an 11-year hiatus. Offered in a limited run between April and September 2004, the RS6 Plus had an engine that was developed and manufactured by Cosworth and took to the streets with an impressive 476 horsepower and 428 pound-feet of torque on tap.
More importantly, the RS6 Performance arrives ten years after Audi discontinued the RS2 Avant, the brand’s first RS-badged vehicle. The RS2 was co-developed with Porsche, and its turbocharged, five-cylinder engine generated 315 horsepower. A little more than a decade has passed since then and Audi’s high-performance wagon has nearly doubled its output. Find out more below.

Jon Olsson may have decided to sell his fabulous Rebellion R2K race car, but that doesn’t mean the Swedish skier has given up making ridiculous car videos or joining upcoming editions of the Gumball 3000 rally. On the contrary, he just made a comeback to showcase his wild, bespoke Audi RS6 on a snowy road in cold Scandinavia.
Unlike most other videos that include a car and a lot of snow. Olsson’s doesn’t feature any drifting whatsoever. Instead, Jon uses his beefed-up wagon as a snow plow, eventually turning it into an Audi-badged popsicle. The footage, which comes with the message "Chase the Dream. No Matter What," also acts as a promo for the 2015 Gumball 3000 rally, set to begin in Stockholm, Sweden, on May 23rd and reach Las Vegas seven days later.
As usual, Olsson will join the event to showcase his newest ride, in this case being the 2015 Audi RS6 DTM. Racing fans will be quick to point out that there’s no such thing as a DTM-spec RS6, but I will remind them that Jon’s cars are as bespoke as they get. Though it might not compete in the series, the RS6 above has been inspired by DTM race cars, receiving a new body kit with flared wheel arches and numerous carbon-fiber parts, including a front splitter, front canards and side skirts. Power comes from the same 4.0-liter V-8 motivating the stock RS6, but output has been increased from 560 to over 900 horsepower.
One look at this outlandish wagon is all you need to realize its owner is not normal. The exterior bristles with carbon fiber, asserting itself with jet-fighter-like aerodynamics, while the extended wheel arches hug enormous wheels over a lowered-stance that suggests a very firm suspension. Hidden by the stickered bodywork is a turbocharged powerplant pumping out close to 1,000 horsepower. But despite all these sacrifices to the deities of speed and performance, the owner claims this RS6 is a daily driver, perfect for a run to the ski slopes.
That’s because the owner is blogger, product designer, pro skier and certified car nut Jon Olsson. Olsson has done some pretty outlandish stuff when it comes to automobiles, with notable acts of insanity including the modification of a Lamborghini Gallardo LP540 for snow shuttle duty and the sliding of the Ultima GTR-based Rebellion R2K up a powder-packed mountain.
With a history like his, it should come as no surprise that Olsson is a fan of high-performance, AWD Audis. “I have always loved the crazy wide body style of the DTM cars and its been a dream to build a similar car for the road, but I also need a car that has enough space to carry all my ski gear to the slopes, so the decision was made to see what we could do with an Audi RS6,” Olsson states in his blog.
The result is a unique example of what the best tuners in the world are capable of when given permission ( and the budget) to break free from convention.

There are a lot of cool cars we can’t have in the United States, including a host of incredibly fast yet still practical wagons. The Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG Shooting Brake is the first that pops into mind, but the RS6 Avant is the vehicle that adds even more insult to injury. While Europe gets no less than four Audi-badged wagons, U.S. customers have just the one in the form of the A6 Allroad. And while most of us can live without the A4 Avant and the A3 Sportback, not having the RS6 Avant on this side of the pond is pure blasphemy. While I could rant about this for hours, I’m going to take a break to tell you about the latest Exclusive package Audi rolled out for the RS6 Avant.
The bundle comes just in time for the wagon’s recently launched facelift and adds further aggressiveness to the already beefed-up grocery getter. Nothing massive, but just enough to turn the RS6 Avant from enticing to downright sinister.
