Audi has been steadily improving its lineup by taking its traditional designs and updating them just enough to mix things up, but there are still a few models that have yet to receive this update. One such model was the S4, which has now joined Audi’s lineup of redesigned models, including the 2016 Audi Q7, 2016 Audi A4, and 2016 Audi R8, with the arrival of the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show.
Not surprisingly, the new S4 arrived only a few months after the Germans unveiled the redesigned A4. And as expected, it’s a slightly beefed-up version of the compact sedan that slots between the standard A4 and the upcoming 2017 Audi RS4. As with most Audi redesigns, the new look is joined by a revamped interior, updated tech, and, more importantly, a significantly more powerful engine.
The new S-badged sedan will arrive Stateside in 2016, as a 2017 model. Keep reading to find out everything there is to know about the S4.

2022 Audi S4
Over the years, the S series from Audi has be a consumer favorite, that’s to its mid-level performance and opulence. Being considerably better than the standard A4, will it be able to compete with the other German giants like the BMW M340i and the Mercedes-AMG C43 sedan? Keep reading to learn more.
2020 Audi S4 Avant
Audi promised a significant redesign of the A4 and, like clockwork, that promise finally materialized with the debut of the 2020 A4. The German automaker didn’t just stop with the new A4, either. The entire family of models attached to the luxury sedan also arrived, including the S4 Avant, the high-performance wagon that has remained a forbidden fruit for customers in the U.S. Just like the A4, the S4 Avant is arriving in style. It still traces its roots to the current B9 generation of the A4 that dates back to 2016, but you wouldn’t know it once you get a good look at it. Most of the changes are cosmetic, though there are also a handful of technological updates that gives the punchy wagon an all-new model vibe. Unless Audi has a change of heart, it doesn’t look like we’ll get to see the updated S4 Avant in the U.S. anytime soon. Years have passed, and the S4 Avant is still out of their reach.
Florida-Based Tuner Crashes Man’s Audi S4, Refuses to Pay for Repairs
All day every day we have to agree with forms online that are too long to be worth reading. Much in the same way, we often fail to read contracts in real life, but this could have costly consequences. Take a man who brought his Audi S4 to a body shop for repairs only for an employee to wreck it and then refuse to pay for the damages.
Apparently, the client had signed a contract that exempted the shop from having to pay for any damages that occurred while the car was in their care. However, the owner has since sought legal help as he aims to somehow get the body shop to pay for the gross negligence.
Watch an Old-School Audi S4 with Bugatti-Like Power Make the 1/2-Mile Scream for Mercy
The Audi S4 B5 is old, but gold. Not only does it cost a small fortune if it’s in good condition, but some owners do tend to tune it to insanity regardless of its status.
How insane is this one here?
rivaling insane. I’m not freaking joking as just the other day an old Audi S4 B5 was filmed in Germany rushing to hit the half-mile mark. Clawing its way with all four tires that barely keep it on the ground and the straight line, this particular Audi S4 B5 has a masterfully tuned engine that delivers an insane 1,442 horsepower. Or apparently, 1,442 horsepower, because my reason does not allow me to believe everything I hear on the Internet.
Nevertheless, the half-mile run during which this wagon achieved 190 mph suggests that 1,442 horsepower may just be right.

As Audi polishes its upcoming round of high-performance luxury sedans, a new report has just unearthed a few details on what we should expect from the 2017 Audi S4. The latest is that the four-door will retain the same blown six-cylinder as the current generation, but pack more power than before.
That’s the news coming from our friends over at CarAndDriver, who tested the new 2015 Audi S3 sedan last year and found that it was actually faster than the current-gen 2014 Audi S4, despite the S3 coming with a four-cylinder engine that put out 292 horsepower compared to the S4’s 333-horsepower V-6.
Given the S4’s position above the S3 on the Audi totem pole, that clearly won’t do. As such, the new S4, which is looking like it’ll arrive next year for the 2017 model year, will most likely be much quicker than the current generation.
Sources within Audi say the new S4 will still bear a 3.0-liter TFSI V-6 under the hood, but rather than a detuned version of the twin-turbo six expected for the new 2017 Audi RS4 Avant and RS5 Sportback, it’s believed the new S4’s six-cylinder will continue to come with a blower for boost duties. To help it slot in appropriately within the Audi lineup and outgun rivals from the likes of the BMW (340i) and Mercedes (2016 Mercedes-Benz C450 AMG Sport), the final output figure from the powerplant is expected to breach the 350-horsepower mark.
As expected, quattro AWD will be standard. An S-tronic seven-speed auto transmission will be rout the power, but it’s unclear whether or not Audi will cater to lovers of the clutch pedal with a six-speed manual (availability will supposedly depend on market demand).

Audi’s S models are the middle children of the lineup, wedged between the mainstream A models and the full-on performance RS models. But since there’s never any guarantee that we’ll get the RS version of a given model in the U.S. (we don’t have the current generation of the 2013 Audi RS4 Avant, for example), S models are more important here than they are in Europe. So this footage of a heavily camouflaged 2017 Audi S4 testing at the Nurburgring is something you should pay attention to.
Even under the camo, it doesn’t look as though the car will be a major evolution in styling, more of a tweak. But the current B8 generation of the car has been around for a while and has been a strong seller, so apparently Audi doesn’t want to fix what isn’t broken. That said, we’re likely to see a few changes, particularly in the lights, which Audi seems obsessed with fine-tuning. And much like the styling, the engine will remain the same 3.0 TFSI, but tuned to produce a bit more power, likely around 350 horsepower, up from 333.
2016 Audi S4 Avant
Audi has been busy redesigning its lineup lately, and the redesigned 2016 Audi S4 debuted at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show in September of 2015. Now, just six months later, Audi is set to release the redesign S4 Avant at the Geneva Motor Show. As expected, Audi has released some information regarding the newly designed model, as well as a number of pictures that gives us a peak at the Avant before its official debut.
Obviously the new Avant will share a lot of the same design we see on the S4 and A4, which is still remarkably similar to the previous generation models. While that is the truth, Audi’s new design still manages to bring enough new character to the S4 Avant that buyers have something fresh to look at when the model goes on sale later this year.
The S4 Avant is made primarily for the European market, and it really is just an S4 sedan with a bigger rump, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t interesting. So, with that said, we’re going to take a detailed look at the new S4 Avant and what we’ll see when the sheet is pulled off of it in Geneva.

There was a time when the S4 was the most exciting Audi offered in the United States. What a difference 10 years can make. The S4 is now joined by the S5, RS5, S6 and R8 sports models with more appearing on the horizon every year. In the face of the new lineup, the S4 looks pretty tame by comparison.
The looks are deceiving, however. The S4 may have lost its shouty atmospheric V-8 engine for this generation, but replaces it with a supercharged V-6 that weights nearly 200 pounds less and delivers acceleration sprints in the mid 4’s all day long. The $50,000 S4 offers a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic or a rare six-speed manual.
The 2014 S4 faces a mild identity crisis in the face of the increasingly expensive BMW M3 that has long been its arch nemesis. Audi makes sure that even the speedy 335Xi model cannot keep up with the S4 in a straight line. Otherwise, S4 the package stays pretty similar to the core A4 style and value proposition. In fact, the S4 is basically just an engine and handling package over the base A4 that is only offered in 2.0-liter form.
How does it stack up versus the 335Xi and the 2014 Cadillac CTS Vsport? All three sedans are offered with AWD and run extra-powerful V-6 engines that use forced induction to increase power while maintaining decent efficiency stats.

In the latest episode of DRIVE, Matt Farah took a trip to the UK where he had a dispute with Chris Harris about which car is better: a standard 2013 Porsche Cayman or a tuned Audi S4? It’s not that we have to see this video to give an answer to this question, but is always nice to see what the two of them behind the wheel.
The Audi S4 has been tricked by the folks over at Revo Technik to deliver a total of 400 horsepower, while a base 2013 Cayman gets a 2.7-liter flat-six-cylinder engine with an output of 275 horsepower. That’s a pretty hefty gap between the two…
We think that in the end, Harris had to agree that a S4 is far better than the Cayman, because, as we reported yesterday, he decided to sell his Porsche and buy a Ferrari 599.
A standard Audi S4 delivers a total of 333 horsepower, but plenty of people think it has more potential. The guys over MS Design seem to agree with that and today they have unveiled the first official details on the new A46 package based for the S4. What does the name stand for? The answer is quite simple: from the amount of power found under the hood - 460 horsepower.
Thanks to the extra 127 horsepower, the A46 sprints from 0 to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds - half a second faster than the S4 - and can hit a top speed of 178 mph. In order to handle the extra power, the new A46 has also been equipped with a specially adapted brake system, a height-adjustable sport suspension and a new set of 8.5-by-20-inch lightweight wheels.
The new Audi A46 can be ordered either as a complete car or as an upgrade for your standard S4. The model will make its world debut at the Top Marques Monaco set to begin tomorrow.

In 1992, the S4 was both luxurious and rather powerful, considering its 2.2-liter 5-cylinder engine pumped out a stout 227 horsepower. By today’s standards, those numbers are pretty much average for a 5-cylinder engine – the handful, or so, out there. So the last thing you would classify this aging Audi is supercar fast. Well, that is until you have a look at Jeff Garner’s heavily modded S4.
This beast’s 2.2-liter 5-banger has had more work done than an aging actress trying to make a comeback. It now pumps out a mind-blowing 1,100 horsepower to all four wheels via the Audi’s classic Quattro system. Jeff uses this massive powerplant to run the S4 at the Bonneville Salt Flats each year and last year he managed to hot 242 mph – an impressive number itself.
This year, however, Jeff was aiming for the stars and got pretty close; as he hit an astounding 260 mph. Soak that up for a second… That’s faster than a Bugatti Veyron and pretty much every other factory car on the market today. In fact, reports are pointing that this may be the fastest sedan on record.
Even better, there is now a two-part video of this awesome run. You can see part one above and part two is after the jump.
Simply awesome!
Audi has already confirmed that the new RS4 will be making its world debut next month at the Geneva Motor Show, but the company is still making its way through some testing grounds in Southern Europe to see how the car can handle the hot weather. The prototype in these images are still heavily camouflaged, even though the masses already know plenty about the vehicle.
The new Audi RS4 will be featuring feature an aggressive front end, larger and wider wheels, and the possibility of some extra aerodynamic pieces made of carbon fiber. The design of the vehicle will stick to the sporty language already present in the RS5.
The Audi RS4 will also share the RS5’s engine: a 4.2 liter V8. This engine delivers a total of 450 HP at 8,250 rpm and a peak torque of 317.15 lb-ft available between 4,000 and 6,000 rpm. This output will make the RS4 the ideal car for public roads and for the track, all while being able to load the back with the products of your shopping ventures.
The facelift version of the Audi A4 is on sale in Europe and will go on sale in the USA in the summer of 2012. In this short time, the model has already received a number of significant upgrades, but German tuner, ABT Sportsline, is adding another one to the faster version of the A4, the S4. Their package, called the AS4, includes a series of exterior upgrades and some serious engine boosts to allow the A4 to excel.
The exterior changes were made to improve the car’s aerodynamics and were kept to a minimum. These changes include a new air dam, new side sills and wing inserts, aerofoils, rear apron inserts, a two-pipe exhaust system, and, of course, a new set of alloy wheels.
Under the hoods of the different versions of the A4, the most impressive changes were made for the S4. The Audi S4’s 3.0 L TFSI V6 engine was pumped up to 435 HP from the standard 333 HP. The top speed limiter has also been removed, providing the luxury sedan with a top speed of 175 mph, while the 0 to 60 mph sprint is made in 4.8 seconds. The 3.0 TDI engine has also been increased from 245 HP to 282 HP, while the tiny four-cylinder version, the 2.0 TFSI, goes from 211 HP to 275 HP.
With the A5 launch in the bag, Audi is primed for the debut of theA4 family and its series updates. For 2012, the new A4 will be getting a more attractive design and new solutions for efficiency, driving dynamics, and infotainment. The A4 family will arrive on the US market in Summer 2012, but the new details surrounding the S4 - the most powerful version of the family - have already been released.
The Audi S4 will be powered by a 3.0 TFSI engine that delivers a total of 333 HP and a peak torque of 324 lb-ft. The sedan has an average fuel consumption of 29 mpg and can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in under 5 seconds on its way to a limited top speed of 155 mph.
As for the updates, the S4 has received changes to the headlights, the bumpers, the air inlets, and its colors, with subtle changes scattered in the interior. Audi has also equipped the S4 with an S sport suspension and 18" wheels.
UPDATE 01/23/12: The 2013 Audi S4 will go on sale in June 2012, so to get its marketing ploys, Audi has released the vehicle’s first promotional video. Check it out!

Those of you who have been with us for some time might know that the Audi S4 might be one of our favorite cars on the market. It combines pure speed and aggressive handling with comfort and everyday practicality. If you had to pick one car for the rest of your life, the S4 wouldn’t be a bad call.
Despite its near flawlessness, Stasis Engineering has decided to rework the four-door Audi and make it that little bit more hardcore. Normally we would despise this sort of thing, but after all, it is SEMA.
A little background of Stasis before we get started with the tuned up S4. STaSIS Engineering is dedicated to providing automotive performance to the mainstream market. They specialize in performance-enhancing brakes, suspension, driveline, and engine products. Basically, these products are as close as you’re going to get to real racing car equipment.
Hit the jump to read about how Stasis applied these products to the S4.
UPDATE 02/21/2011: The STaSIS Signature S4 packages are now available exclusively from APS of Brackley, with prices starting at £12,500 (or about $20,000 at the current exchange rates) including VAT @ 20% and installation.
When you first look at the new 2010 Audi S4, it might appear that Audi has taken a step backwards with a less-powerful, less-expensive S4, but you’d be wrong. The “third” German car company is finally an individual, no longer shadowing behind the Mercedes AMG or BMW M.
Today, visit an Audi dealership and you will find a completely revamped S4 with more power than the base A4 2.0T and better handling than the Mercedes C63 AMG.
This newest S4 pushes aside the old V8 for a far more efficient supercharged V6 with more torque. Some purists might whine about this change, but the fact of the matter is that the car is now $3,000 cheaper and just as fast.
With the new A4 range, Audi is hoping that its cheaper models will lure people into buying the more expensive high performance sedan. Unlike the old S4, which was pitted against the Mercedes AMG C-Class and the BMW M3, the new $40,000 range S4 is more suited to battle the 335i orC350.

As if the higher performance variant of the A4 wasn’t sporty enough, Avus Performance has developed a new tuning kit for the Audi S4 that will not only provide the 3.0 liter V6 engine with a jump in horsepower, but will also allow it to look the part with a few exterior as well as interior features.
The boost in horsepower allows the Audi S4 to produce a total of 430 HP compared to the 333HP developed in the standard model. This boost in power was held together by a thread spring kit allowing for minor suspension adjustments.
The aerodynamic package includes a new grille, rear diffuser, and front blade all with a glossy black finish which can be changed to a carbon finish if the customer so chooses. The back of the Audi S4 will see a whole new set of stainless steel mufflers with the tail pipe variant RS4/RS6-look in matte black. The interior can also be decked out in the carbon finish or the customer can choose from a wide variety of colors in a leather finish. The car sits on 22" Hankooh Ventus S1 Evo rims.
Unless you’re dealing with a high-powered, tuned-up Audi, a race between a Lamborghini Gallardo and an Audi S4 is about as fair as a two-legged horse participating in the Kentucky Derby. Fortunately, the Audi S4 shot in this racing video in Somalia had enough power to remain competitive against a Gallardo and even managed to stretch the Gallardo’s legs with an extra passenger on board.
To be fair to the Gallardo, its driver looked like he wasn’t even trying and if it did decide to pound the throttle, it probably would have left the modded Stage 3 Audi B5 S4 eating its thermoplastic dust.
Usually, all the Audi models have, at some point, an S and an RS version and since the Q5 has acquired some stiff competition with the BMW X5 and the BMW X5M, the company decided to offer more options of the Q5 for their customers.
The first to arrive on the market is the SQ5, a model inspired by the Q5 Custom Concept. It will arrive in 2011 and will be powered by a super-charged 3.0 liter V6 engine with a compressor comparable to Audi’s existing S4. This car will be delivering an output of 333 horsepower. While most of the car is the same with the standard Q5 version, a couple of striking differences between a standard Q5 and the SQ5 will include, among others, a new front and rear spoiler and a rear diffuser, quad exhaust and a chrome "S" grille.
The next step will be the RSQ5, a model powered by the same 3.0 TFSI V6 engine and will deliver 408 hp and 500 Nm of torque.
There is a soft spot in our hearts for BMW and with the SQ5 and the RSQ5 producing 333hp and 408hp, respectively, we stand strong on the 555hp produced by the BMW X5M. We can only hope that this new competition will lead BMW to an X3M model. If you happen to be an Audi lover, don’t worry, we will keep a lookout for any type of confirmation on these two new Audi models. Who knows, if they do debut, maybe it will get us to change our minds.
The Audi S4 is the German automaker’s sport tuned version of their entry level sedan, adding a bit more exhilaration and extravagance to the A4 with a high output power plant and exotic materials used for the interior. For 2010 Audi went away from the 4.2 Liter V8 and opted for a more economical supercharged V6 that makes 333 HP, more then enough to scoot the all wheel drive sport sedan around corners while the Alcantara seat inserts holds the occupants in place. 2010 S4 went on sale in the fall of 2009 and is only available as a four door in the U.S. with the European market receiving an Avant as well.
The 2010 Audi S4 is powered by a 3.0T V6 FSI combining gasoline direct injection with forced induction to deliver a total of 333 HP and 325 lb-ft of torque, when equipped with a manual transmission the 2010 S4 sprints from 0 to 60 MPH in only 4.9 seconds while its top speed is limited to 155 MPH. The S4 is a sports car offering an impressive driving experience, leading technologies, and every day suitability. The luxury sport sedan comes equipped with performance features like: adjustable engine/throttle mapping, suspension damping, rear differential, dynamic steering and Quattro with new optional Sports Rear Differential in order to enhance the performance vehicle’s agility.
The 2010 Audi S4 will be offered in two trim levels: Premium Plus and the S4 Prestige, with prices starting at $45,900 and $52,000 respectively. However you might want to spring for the Audi Drive Select Package priced at $3,950 as well, after all it includes all those adjustable bits that takes the S4’s handling from impressive to outstanding.

In a direct sign of the times, price cuts among car makers have become an increasing trend. With the entire auto industry grasping at straws just to sell their vehicles, most have relied on slashing off prices from their cars as a way to getting some sales. Case in point: Audi recently released the price for the 2010 S4 and as has been widely expected, the car’s price tag has been significantly cut.
The car, which was sold at a base price of $57,000, has now been slashed to $45,900 for the 2010 model. According to the guys at Audi, the move was prompted as a repositioning strategy to make the S4 “more attainable witout compromises in performance or features.” Our translation: “We need to sell cars, so we’re offering them at a lower price.”
The consequences of the S4’s slashed prices results in a downgrade, albeit not a big one, in the car’s engine: from a 4.2-liter V-8 to a supercharged V6. Despite that, the S4 still boasts of premium features that makes the reduced $45,900 price tag seem like a good bargain.

Audi today announced prices for the 2010 S4 and A5/S5 Convertible models. The S models will go on sale in August, followed by a fall debut for the A5 Convertible. The S4 sedan is priced at $45,900 for the manual version and at $47,300 for the S tronic one. The A5 Cabriolet 2.0T multitronic front-wheel drive is priced at $42,000, the A5 Cabriolet 2.0T Tiptronic quattro at $44,100 and the S5 at $58,250.
The 2010 S4 is powered by a 3.0T V6 FSI direct injection supercharged engine with 333 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque.
All the models will be offered with: 3G MMI (Multi Media Interface) with 3D map graphics and SIRIUS traffic displays the latest evolution of 3D navigation, joystick control for navigation map destination finding, updated graphical clarity, SIRIUS® artist/title preview, and SIRIUS traffic-based navigation. The S4 sedan features voice-based destination input control, and voice inputs such as “I’m hungry,” “I need gas” and “I need coffee”.

The German tuners at ABT Sportsline have come up with a new performance program for the Audi S4. The high performance specialists are raising the supercharged V6’s output from 333 HP all the way up to 435 HP. With the the additional 102 HP, the S4 is now able to sprint from 0 to 60 MPH in just 4.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 175 MPH.
ABT dressed up the vehicle in order to compliment the new found performance under the hood. Out back the rear end is spruced up by the quad exhaust tips sticking out from underneath the back bumper. An improvement that can bee seen from all four sides of the four ringed tuner car are a set of upgraded rolling stock. ABT Sportsline is offering aftermarket wheels sized anywhere from 18 to 20 inches for the S4. Personally we find the larger the better. The kit will set you back about $5,400 and although that may seem like a nice chunk of change, remember that not only will your Audi look better, but it will also performa like a champion.

The German tuning house, MTM, has just revealed a new performance upgrade for theAudi S4 and A6 that are equipped with the automaker’s 3.0 Liter TFSI six cylinder engine. Thanks to a M-Cantronic system the S badged entry level sedan now makes 430 HP, that is almost 100 HP above the stock output, all without having to turn a wrench and get your hands dirty. The same computer retune is available for the TFSI equipped A6s, but in the larger sedan, the increase is only good for about 70 HP.
Besides the improved performance of the smart engine software, MTM is also offering their new signature sport tuned exhaust system for the vehicles wearing a four ringed emblem. The exhaust can be finished off with either a quad tip, oval tailpipe or a blacked out unit so that you won’t see anything at all. Completing the handling part of the performance upgrade, MTM also equips the Audi’s with a set of 19 to 21 inch Bimoto wheels with a big brake upgrade underneath as well as an MTM height adjustable coilover suspension.

Just because the world’s automakers are downsizing their engine opitions doesn’t mean that you have to settle for a lesser vehicle. Take the Audi S4 for example. The car started out as a wonderful bi-turbo V6, but then German automaker wanted to take the entry level sedan DTM racing, so they shoehorned a V8 in between the strut towers and sold to car to the public. The last generation RS4 was an even better car, with a 420 HP 4.2 Liter FSI engine and quattro all wheel drive system it was like an early R8 with the body on backwards. With tighter emissions and fuel consumption becoming more an more of an issue, the current generation S4 had been reduced back to a six cylinder with a blower sitting in the "v".
As an automotive consumer you do not have to settle for this, this is when you turn to the aftermarket, and the German tuning house, MTM is prepared to help you with a simple computer module that will take the 3.0 Liter TFSI engine from 328 HP all the way up to 424 HP without getting your hands dirty. The twisting force is raised from 324 lb-ft up to 379 lb-ft of torque and the upgraded S4 will sprint from 0 to 60 MPH in only 4.6 down from the standard car’s 5.2 second sprint. The modification will set you back 2491 Euro if you want to go to MTM directly, but we are sure for a few more they will figure out a way to raise the 155 MPH speed limiter.
We already knew that Audi was moving the S4 and the S5 from V8 engines to smaller, lighter turbo V6 units. But now Car and Driver is reporting that the V6s are just a stairstep on the way to reducing the cylinders by half.
This does make sense. Audis have become a little portly in their pursuits for horsepower. For example, the 2010 S5 Cabriolet weighs in at 4300, which is about as much as a Ford Explorer.
Audi acknowledges that this weight disadvantage could really hurt it in the future, and is now taking great steps to fix it. When the new S4/S5 appears in 2014, it will incorporate more aluminum, magnesium, and high-strength steel for weight reduction. It will also switch to turbocharged four-cylinder engines. The result will be a car that has 20 percent less weight and up to 30 percent less engine displacement.
While we’re usually not fan of smaller engines, Audi does seem to have a good guide to follow. The current TT lineup doesn’t have to cross into six-cylinder territory to get 340 hp with the TT RS.
German tuners TurboArt have successfuly generated in excess of 700 hp from the Audi S4. The cars mass has been lowered to 1,513 kilograms (about 3330 lbs.) That’s about a 540 lbs. weight savings.
In order to get the power to the ground the TurboArt Audi S4 uses a Bilstein suspension, BBS CH rims and Dunlop SportMaxx GT rubber. Safety in the TurboArt Audi S4 is highlighted by a roll cage and Recaro race buckets. During the evaluation at the Papenburg race track the TurboArt Audi S4 recorded a 0 to 300 km/h (186 mph) sprint in 26.94 seconds.
Unfortunately the engine modifications necesary to produce such power is a guarded secret of the gentlemen at TurboArt.
Audi may have gone for a few laughs with its Super Bowl ad for the U.S., but its going artistic to promote the new S4 at home in Europe.
When the S4 arrives in Germany’s showrooms this fall it will be powered by a 3.0 TFSI that delivers 333 hp and a peak torque of 325 lb-ft. It makes the 0 to 60 mph sprint in 5.1 seconds while top speed is limited to German gentlemen’s agreement of 155 mph.
After unveiling the European specification on the 2009 S4, Audi also revealed USA data on the car. The S4 sedan will go on sale in Fall of 2009 as a 2010 model, with pricing to be announced at a later date, but according to the company will be similar to the outgoing model. S4 Avant body style will not be offered in the USA. S4 will compete with BMW M3 sedan and Mercedes-Benz AMG C63.
Full US specifications after the jump.
Audi will unveil at the Paris Auto Show the 2009 S4, both sedan and station wagon version. The two models will go on sale in March 2009.
Both models are powered by a completely redesigned engine: the 3.0 TFSI, the newest member of the Audi V-engine family. The V6 generates its power from a displacement of 2,995 cc, is equipped with a supercharger, and delivers 333 hp. The sedan sprints to100 km/h (62.14 mph) in just 5.1 seconds, and the Avant in 5.2 seconds: they both have an electronically governed top speed of 250 km/h (155.34 mph).
The 3.0 TFSI delivers its maximum 440 Nm (324.53 lb-ft) at 2,500 rpm and maintains this constantly until 4,850 rpm. In fourth gear, the vehicle accelerates from 80 to 120 km/h (49.71 to 74.56 mph) in just 4.4 seconds. Thanks to the extremely short gas paths, the sonorous, supercharged V6 responds spontaneously to the throttle, even more so than a naturally aspirated engine of the same displacement.
Furthermore, the new 3.0 TFSI achieves exemplary fuel efficiency. On average, the sedan uses 9.7 liters of fuel per 100 km (24.25 US mpg), and the Avant 9.9 liters per 100 km (23.76 US mpg) – an improvement of 3.4 liters (26 percent) compared with its predecessor.
Press release after the jump.
Audi will unveil the S4 Sedan and Avant versions at the Paris Auto Show. Until we’ll have the official images here’s a pretty good idea of how the Avant version might look like.
The S4 will feature a modified bumper, a larger diffuser and a modified spoiler, same as in the S5. The RS4 will feature an even more aggressive design.
The 2009 S4 will be powered by the Audi’s all-new 3.0-liter supercharged V6 engine that will deliver around 330 hp.
The Audi S4 is ready for the market launch, and this latest spy shots prove that we are right. The S4, sedan version, will make its world debut this autumn at the Paris Auto Show. The station wagon version will be launched at a later date, and the first prototypes are also on testings.
The V8 engine was dropped and replaced by a 3.0 liter V6 TFSI-engine, both turbo and direct injection, that delivers around 330 hp (there are rumors also saying there will be a 350 hp version.) The engine will be mated to a 7-speed S-tronic gearbox.
The new 3.0 TFSI engine makes its debut in the S4, and starting 2010 will be used in S5, and a detuned version that will produce around 300 hp will be used for the A6 and A7.
Audi will unveil the hot S4 sedan this autumn at the Paris Motor Show. It will be powered by a new supercharged V6 petrol engine producing around 350bhp.
The future S4 will feature the new S-tronic gearbox that weights 142kg - around 40 kilos more than the six-speed manual. However, performance is actually faster with the twin-clutch ’box and emissions are lower, too.
The 2009 S4 will make the 0 to 60 mph sprint in less than six seconds and will hit a top speed of 155 mph (electronically limited).
Sales will begin in early 2009. The S4 will be offered as sedan, station wagon and convertible. A RS4 version will also debut in 2009.
The next generation S4 will be unveiled in 2009 as a 2010 model. The super-sedan will be powered by a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 and will have enough power to compete with models like BMW 335i.
In 2011 Audi will also unveil a RS4 version, powered by a V8 engine. It will compete with M3.
The 2010 S4 will loose weight and will have improved fuel economy.
First rumors said the 2010 Audi S4 would share its powertrain with the S5. But this rumors are incorrect as the 2010 S4 will be powered by an all-new forced-induction 3.0-liter V-6 that will generate something close to the 340 hp.
The reason is quite simple: fuel economy. Audi’s strategy is to deliver comparable or improved overall performance by toeing the line on weight and maintaining power output by using forced induction on a smaller displacement engine. Doing so will boost a manual transmission S4’s fuel economy on the European cycle to 23.3 mpg compared with only 19.4 mpg for the V-8 S5. That’s an efficiency gain of 20%.
A less powerful, 290-hp, 310 lb-ft version of the engine will be the base offering in the A6 Quattro, replacing the 3.2-liter V-6. Known as TFSI, which in the past has been Audi’s internal moniker for four-cylinder turbos, the new engine may be referred to as the 3.0T in the model name, possibly indicating a twin-charged system using both a supercharger and a turbocharger. While Volkswagen has a “twincharger,” Audi has not yet offered such a system. At the very least, we expect the new V-6 to be supercharged, although what will allow the S4’s version to generate 50 or so more horsepower is still a mystery.
Audi will debut the 2010 S4 this autumn, probably at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
Some guys from Audiworld publish some pictures taken in Germany of what it looks is the Avant version of the Audi S4. The exterior is not the S4, but the brakes and the back kind of say it is.
According to some inside information from someone on Audi, the new S4 model will be powered by a 3.0 liter TSFI engine twin turbo, generation 330 hp. The time needed to make from 0-60 mph will be better that the 5.4 seconds from the actual model, dropping to a clean 5 seconds.
Drivers of Audi A4 and S4 cars (years 2002-2005 B6 8E) should know that reading or viewing the following information can induce euphoric episodes of Tuner’s Syndrome. Symptoms include increased heart rate, daytime reverie and pronounced urges to use a telephone.

The pattern of ‘clustering’ most frequently occurs with upper midsize cars like the Acura Integra, which accounts for eight of the top 25 most stolen vehicles. The Integra, along with the Suzuki Aerio (positions 12 and 13 on the list), are also part of a trend among what is commonly referred to as ‘tuner’ cars. These cars are popular with street racers, who look for vehicles packing a powerful motor in a lightweight and efficient package.
Perhaps most surprising is that in spite of escalating (...)

Cars that announce their thrilling performance with wings, spoilers, stripes and neon undercarriage lighting have their place. Mostly that place is in the fantasies of eighth-grade boys, but it’s a place. There isn’t an eighth-grader on Earth who’ll draw anything that looks like the new Audi S4 Cabriolet in his study-hall notebook.
Perhaps it was part of a Christmas bonus for the employees, or a renegade draftsman who broke into his piggy bank in an act of selfless charity towards his fellow coworkers, but someone has gifted the designers in Ingolstadt a set of curved stencils. This is nowhere more evident than the seventh-generation of Audi’s B-chassis cars, first introduced to us as the mid-year 2005 A4 and now embodied in the 2006 S4 Wagon.
The S4, a high-performance offshoot of the compact A4, rejoined Audi’s lineup for the 2004 model year. The S4 is powered by a 340-horsepower, 4.2-liter V-8 that teams with either a six-speed-manual gearbox or a six-speed-automatic transmission that incorporates a manual-shift provision.
