Audi’s premium sedan looks to be getting a much-needed facelift
The 2020 Audi A4 has arrived with a fresh look, new technologies, and enough engine options to make your head spin. While it’s technically a mid-cycle refresh of the same generation model that launched in 2016, the 2020 A4 looks and feels more than just a refresh. You can call it an all-new model because that’s what it actually is. The updates are significant across the board, so much that it’s hard to look at the 2020 A4 as a continuation of the current-generation A4 B9 model. Audi’s new compact luxury sedan looks every bit like the winner we all hoped it would be. Now it’s time for the BMW 3 Series and the Mercedes C-Class to stand up and take notice. The 2020 Audi A4 is coming, and it’s coming with a vengeance. U.S. availability and pricing of the 2020 A4 have yet to be announced, but those details should come soon, ahead of the sedan’s scheduled launch later this year.

Here’s Your First Look at The Last Fuel-Powered Audi A4
It wasn’t long ago that Audi boss, Markus Duesmann, told Germany’s Manager Magazin that the midsize A4 will ditch the internal combustion engine by 2023. As such, the next-gen model that’s seen here (and due in 2023) represents that last fuel-powered generation of the A4 with an electric model due after that. So, will this generation get all the bells and whistles to give it a proper send-off, or will it be business as usual?
Audi Was Forced To Recall A Whole Bunch of Vehicles for the Craziest Reason
As cars get more complex and high-tech, recalls are seemingly becoming more common nowadays. Audi is yet another prime example of this as the company announces a recall affecting a swath of 2021 and 2022 models due to issues surrounding their rearview cameras.
The Next-Gen Audi A4 Arrives In The Shadow of a High-Performance EV
In 2021 alone, Audi has flipped the script, fully embracing electrification without thinking twice about it. What started with the E-Tron GT quickly led to the release of the Q4 E-Tron and Q4 E-Tron Sportback. And, just when you thought that was enough, Audi hit us with that cool-as-hell A6 E-Tron concept. Now, we’re learning that Audi is planning to stir up the pond even more, and this time it’s the RS4 that’s in the crosshairs, and you’re probably going to think this is really good news.

2020 Audi A4 Avant
Audi’s current sedan lineup consists of the A8, the A7, and the A6, followed by the A4 taking up the smallest slot of them all. Among these four-door nameplates, Audi also offers a variety of wagon iterations for added practicality. The A4 Avant takes up that space in the A4 family, and with the arrival of the 2020 A4 Avant, we finally get a good look at Audi’s new entry-level wagon in all its glory. Updates for the new wagon come everywhere, whether it’s the fresh exterior styling or the cleaner center console in the interior. The 2020 A4 Avant also benefits from the latest in Audi technology, not to mention a lineup of gas- and diesel-powered engines — with mild hybrid assist — that should cater to the whims and preferences of all the customers in markets where the A4 Avant is available. The 2020 Audi A4 Avant will be available sometime in the latter half of the year. Unfortunately, the U.S. market isn’t getting the 2020 A4 Avant, as has been the case for a long time.
2020 Audi S4 Avant
Audi promised a significant redesign of the A4 and, like clockwork, that promise finally materialized with the debut of the 2020 A4. The German automaker didn’t just stop with the new A4, either. The entire family of models attached to the luxury sedan also arrived, including the S4 Avant, the high-performance wagon that has remained a forbidden fruit for customers in the U.S. Just like the A4, the S4 Avant is arriving in style. It still traces its roots to the current B9 generation of the A4 that dates back to 2016, but you wouldn’t know it once you get a good look at it. Most of the changes are cosmetic, though there are also a handful of technological updates that gives the punchy wagon an all-new model vibe. Unless Audi has a change of heart, it doesn’t look like we’ll get to see the updated S4 Avant in the U.S. anytime soon. Years have passed, and the S4 Avant is still out of their reach.
Audi Traffic Light Information System Will Tell you How Fast to Go to Catch a Green Light
Audi has offered a system called Traffic Light Information (TLI) on some of its models since 2015 (in cities where vehicle-to-vehicle V2I infrastructure was implemented), and now it is adding a new supporting system to it called Green Light Optimized Speed Advisory (GLOSA). It is available on post-2017 model year A4 and Q7 models and, on paper, it sounds really useful as it recommends what speed you should travel at in order to catch “the green wave.”
2020 Audi A4 Allroad
Estates have always been looked upon as family and luggage haulers. They were never meant to be attractive, fast, or adventurous. These vehicles were boring, but very practical. But with time, estates, aka wagons, started getting glamorous and confident, and lately, even luxurious. One classic example of the same is the Audi A4 Allroad. Other than the slight body roll and the long tail, it is a perfect blend of a sedan’s ride and handling and an SUVs practicality and off-roading capabilities.
Audi Spills the Beans on 2019 Model Updates
Audi is gearing up for a raft of changes throughout its model range in 2019 that sees a number of cars get their facelifts done while adding some new models to the lineup like the e-Tron SUV.
German automaker Audi, part of the Volkswagen Group, is currently fighting an uphill battle against its core rivals in the executive and luxury segments. Audi’s global sales figure barely went up by 0.6% last year and, while 2018 stats look better, Mercedes-Benz and BMW are still the key reference points. In the U.S., Audi’s growth is a bit more visible, sitting at about 7.75% between 2016 and 2017, with the current trend seemingly still strong on its feet.
The brand-new BMW 3 Series is arguably one of the most important launches at this year’s Paris Motor Show. The German compact executive sedan flexes its muscles in a class defined by the decades-old rivalry with Mercedes and Audi. The latter presents itself with the A4 which was launched two years ago but will undergo a subtle facelift for the 2019 model year.
BMW’s legendary 3 Series gets a seventh generation for 2019. Known as the G20, next year’s car has a new platform, is bigger all round and features bold styling even with the lower trim line option. BMW says it is sportier than the previous generations, but purists already lament the lack of a manual transmission.
The Audi, in comparison, is a car that’s already reached the mid-point of its production cycle. The styling is more conservative, consistent with Audi’s decision over the past few years to not introduce particularly eye-catching design cues. As such, the BMW might be the one you notice first, but the longer Audi shouldn’t be ruled out from the get-go.
Read on to find how the new BMW 3 Series stacks up against the Audi A4.
13 Crossover Wagons You Could Buy Instead of an SUV
High-riding vehicles, like crossovers and SUVs are at the height of popularity right now, but they’re not the only way to go if you want practicality and some off-road capability. Crossover style raised wagons are a great alternative and while they can still drive you over a rough field or rutted road with ease, they’re better to drive on road and actually pretty stylish.
They are essentially the wagon versions of different cars which have gained extra ride height and plastic cladding on the outside to protect them from scratches in their most vulnerable points. These vehicles usually have standard all-wheel drive and are usually a higher trim level, so they are not cheap (compared to the vehicle they’re based on) but they also come with a lot of equipment.
Here’s a list of the 13 coolest crossover-style wagons you can buy today.
The Audi-based FitCar PPV is a Car That Helps You Get Fit Every Time You Drive It!
Have people made you feel guilty about taking your car to the nearby grocery store? Here’s a slap to their face known as the FitCar PPV. A Saudi-based inventor, Nasser Al Shawaf, and Dutch engineering partner, BPO, have created the world’s first calorie-burning car, the FitCar PPV. The FitCar is a genuine pedal-powered vehicle wherein you find a pedal mechanism instead of an accelerator pedal.
2018 Audi A4 Ultra Sport Edition
In an effort to compliment Audi enthusiasts who appreciate a good stick shift and, obviously, ease the news that Audi won’t be offering the A4 and the A5 with the option of a manual transmission from the 2019 model year onwards, it’s said that the company will introduce the A4 Ultra Sport Edition. It is a limited-edition car only 40 of which will be produced and sold, presumably to Audi lovers. Despite the sad news of Audi discontinuing its offering of the manual on their popular models, the A4 Ultra Sport Edition is actually a fitting adieu to the stick shift.
In order to make it as impressive as possible, Audi gave it a number of pieces to differentiate it from the rest of the lineup.
The Audi A4 Ultrasport to Return as a Very Limited Last Stand for the Manual Transmission
Audi is dusting off the Ultrasport name and bringing it back one last time to coincide with the end of manual-transmission versions of the A4. The famous designation will return as part of the Audi A4 Ultrasport, a limited run of 40 units that will include three pedals, a stick, and a lot of extra goodies. No timetable has been given, but all 40 units of the A4 Ultrasport will be sold exclusively in the U.S.
Audi Eliminates Manual Transmission From Its U.S. Lineup
The traditional manual transmission is not preferred by the new breed of customers in the U.S., and that’s the bottom line. We’ve seen a lot of automakers lately, providing only automatics in their offerings. The latest to go fully-automatic is Audi. The German company is replacing manual transmissions with automatic and dual-clutch gearboxes across its entire line-up. Why, Audi, why?
The S-Line Competition Package Gives the Refreshed Audi A4 Some Extra Value
Three years after the current generation was launched, Audi has finally revealed the facelifted 2019 A4 sedan and A4 Avant. The revised A4 gets minor exterior upgrades and an all-new S-Line Competition Equipment Package, but for now, these updates are limited to the European market. We do expect the U.S.-spec A4 to get the same changes as well, but when that will happen is another story.
Hello Audi A4 Cabrio, Goodbye Audi TT Roadster and A5 Cabrio
The Audi A4 Cabriolet could be making a comeback as Audi tries to reshuffle its convertible lineup to make room for its return. Part of that reshuffling reportedly involves axing two current convertibles that have become anchors weighing Audi’s sales volume down. If this happens, we could be saying goodbye to the Audi TT Roadster and the Audi A5 Cabriolet. Both models have had their time in the sun, but now it’s looking like they’re being called back home.
2019 Volvo V60 Vs. 2018 Audi A4 Allroad – A Visual Comparison
It doesn’t get much more “Volvo” than that old standby body style we all know and love. I’m of course talking about the station wagon, a favorite for both families and modern automotive journalists. The Swedish brand is certainly well-versed in this space, as is evident by the release of its latest wagon, the new mid-size V60. Officially breaking cover at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, stateside buyers will be happy to know that this gorgeous piece of extended roof goodness is indeed arriving on these shores to meet all your grocery-getting needs. But how does it compare against the competition? To find out,we lined it up against another luxury wagon, namely the Audi A4 Allroad, and gave ’em both a thorough visual shakedown, diving into the aesthetics, the equipment, and what’s going on under the hood.

What’s The Best Sporty Luxury Sedan You Can Get For Less Than $50K?
At its most basic, a sport sedan should be a happy balance between two competing philosophies. The “sport” half of the equation should make it engaging, both in the way it drives, and the way it looks. A sport sedan should issue a dose of adrenaline when the hammer is down, and be a willing dance partner in the corners. It’s also gotta draw attention, turning heads as it goes, making its owner pause momentarily after exiting and locking the doors. Then there’s the “sedan” bit. A sport sedan isn’t supposed to be stripped down and basic – practicality and comfort are paramount. Often used as a daily driver, backside coddling should be there in abundance, complementing the car’s speed potential, rather than taking away from it. All told, it’s a big ask, but this segment has plenty of contenders vying for the title of best. In this comparison, we look at six of the top entries and sort them out, from first to last.
Listed in alphabetical order, this comparison will take a look at the Audi A4, BMW 3 Series, Chrysler 300, Infiniti Q50, Jaguar XE, and Mercedes-Benz C-Class. We’ve evaluated each in terms of exterior aesthetics, interior comfort and technology, powertrain and drivetrain specs, and chassis and handling. We’ve also included a glut of info in chart and graph form to help you make a quick comparison. So without further ado, let’s take a look at the best sporty luxury sedan you can get for less than $50,000.

Ditch The SUV And Try One Of These Wagons Instead
In case you haven’t noticed, American consumers are still enamored with the idea of driving around in a tall-bodied, relatively off-road capable SUV with loads of space to haul around many people and lots of things. Sales of such vehicles continue to rise, and automakers are responding by churning out new models by the truckload. But is there a better means to achieve similar ends? What if, for example, you want something with the capability, cargo space, and attitude of an SUV, but the maneuverability, ease of use, and comfort of a regular passenger car? Luckily, such a combo does exist, and we’ve got five of the best examples on the market lined up right here in this in-depth comparison article.
The five vehicles in question are (in alphabetical order) the Audi A4 Allroad, the Mini Clubman All4, the Subaru Outback, the Volkswagen Golf Alltrack, and the Volvo V60 Cross Country. That’s right folks – wagons, representing a diverse price range and wide array of tastes. Once the torchbearer of utility and practicality, the wagon body style has declined in popularity with the rise of the SUV. But just because something is trendy doesn’t mean it’s good, right? Read on to find out what makes these five vehicles fantastic alternatives to the SUV status quo. You rebel, you.

Audi Becomes the First Brand to Offer Vehicle-to-Infrastructure Connectivity Services
Audi likes to believe it is changing the world for the better, and it has now announced the latest development in its Audi Connect Prime services. This newest feature, which is being offered in conjunction with Traffic Technology Services, is called Traffic Light Information, and will apparently allow equipped Audi models to connect with the traffic light infrastructure in certain cities. The 2017 Audi Q7, Audi A4, and A4 Allroad will be the first models to get this new technology.
To put things simply, this technology will allow the car to receive real-time signal information from advanced traffic management systems across the United States. The link is created via the on-board LTE data connection and Traffic Technology Services’ company servers. For now, this feature will allow equipped vehicles to display the amount of time left before a traffic signal changes from red to green. It will be displayed in the driver information center and on the heads-up display if equipped.
Pom Malhotra, the General Manager of Connect Vehicles, said, “This feature represents Audi’s first step in vehicle-to-infrastructure integration. In the future, we could envision this technology integrated into vehicle navigation, start / stop functionality and can even be used to help improve traffic flow in municipalities. These improvements could lead to better overall efficiency and shorter commuting times.”
The city side of these services are set to roll out in fall of 2016 in select “smart cities” and metropolitan areas and new areas will be added “through 2017 and beyond.” Q7, A4, and A4 Allroad models built after June 1st will have the feature available when equipped with Audi Connect Prime services.

TopSpeed’s Top 5 Premium Wagons – 2017 Edition
At this point, it should be more than obvious that if you want a car with utility and space for at least five people, but don’t wanna join the crowd of crossovers you see crammed onto the roads, your best option is to get your hands on a wagon. Once a steadfast bastion of the practical, wagons have seen a sharp decline in popularity over the last few decades, the result of an all-out assault from the tall-bodied insanity of the current SUV craze. But fear not – the wagon hasn’t gone gently into that good night, at least not yet, and we’ve assembled five top-shelf options right here for your perusal and approval.
Rather than limiting ourselves to what’s currently available, we decided to look ahead in anticipation of what’ll be in dealers in the next year or so, including both existing offerings and those that have yet to be released. As it turns out, there are a few very strong entries barreling down the pipeline right now, which means buyers will have a nice selection of premium wagons when shopping in 2017.
So what’s topping the menu? Read on to find out.

2017 - 2018 Audi A4 Allroad Quattro
If you’re in the market for something that combines comfort, practicality, and a little off-road capability, odds are you’re combing through a seemingly endless number of crossover models. But while the crossover’s popularity is unrivaled in the U.S., its jack-of-all-trades disposition is far from perfect, especially when it comes to things like maneuverability, ride quality, and driving dynamics. So what if you want all the advantages of a crossover, but in a decidedly more car-like package? Audi has the answer, and it’s called the 2017 A4 Allroad. Unveiled at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show, this next-gen vehicle brings a revamped drivetrain, revised suspension, and even more features for the occasional jaunt into the rough stuff, making it a real alternative in a sea of CUVs.
Audi first offered the A4 Allroad in 2009, but the philosophy hasn’t changed – take the style and familiarity of a wagon, and infuse it with maximum functionality. To that end, Audi starts with the A4 Avant (a model that’s sadly reserved only for non-U.S. customers) and adds new styling cues and beefier hard bits. The result is something that keeps the easy-driving, good-looking wagon stuff, but adds a little extra for ski runs or traversing the dirt path to that hidden trailhead.
It’s a tempting combination, but is it enough to entice buyers away from the crossover status quo?
Updated 07/26/2016: Audi just released info on the U.S.-spec A4 Allroad Quattro, so we’ve updated the Drivetrain and Prices sections with the latest.

Audi AS4 By ABT Sportsline
The Audi A4 doesn’t get the same kind of adulation reserved for the R8 supercar or the attention that is normally commanded by the A6 and A7 luxury sedans. But ever since it first arrived in 1994, the A4 has earned the reputation of a model that brings out the Audi fan in a lot of people. It’s true that while it may the entry-level model in the German automaker’s premium lineup of sedans, the A4 has carved out an identity unique to its own.
That identity is also why a tuner like ABT Sportsline has spent hours upon hours of its time building programs specifically for the A4. The tuner’s latest work also speaks to the versatility of the A4 as the kit comes with engine upgrade packages for two engine variants of the sedan, one for the 2.0-liter TFSI that nets 330 horsepower and another for the 3.0-liter TDI V-6 engine that results in 325 ponies.
There’s not a lot of flash that went with the creation of this program. ABT Sportsline opted to keep it simple and effective and the results are what you see. Exterior upgrades are limited, although there are a couple of aero components that provide both cosmetic and handling improvements. A fresh new set of wheels also adds another layer to the A4, as does a suspension upgrade that ties everything together to create a more balanced ride for the sedan.
It’s fitting that ABT Sportsline embarked on building this program as it celebrates its 120th anniversary this year. The A4 has, for a long time, been one of its most tuned models, and with the release of this new upgrade, it seems that the tuner’s old habits aren’t about to die down anytime soon.

Audi Teams Up With Cazzette And Laleh To Create Worlds First 3D Song: Video
There was a time when the quality of car sound systems just flat-out sucked. You couldn’t get any bass, while treble was scratchy at best. Because of this, the aftermarket car audio market grew tenfold, and manufacturers finally took the hint. Now, new cars come standard with decent audio systems and offer even better systems as optional equipment. One of the best “stock” systems going right now is the 19-speaker, 3D audio system from Bang and Olufsen that is available in new Audi A4.
With that said, it’s no surprise that Audi has its finger in the developing the first real 3D song, right? As it turns out, Audi has teamed up with electronic music duo Cazzette and the singer Laleh to create a song that takes full advantage of the Bang and Olufsen 3D audio system. The song is named Blue Sky was adjusted and mixed specifically for the 19-speaker system in the A4. It will make its official debut on May 23rd in the Audi A4 at dealerships all across Sweden, and will be released to the public on June 3rd.
According to the video, the people behind the song were able to give the sound a third level by using a specific algorithm co-developed with the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits. These algorithms are said to add a vertical level to the audio, creating a feeling of height that hasn’t been heard before. For now, you can click play on the video to see a little background about it before it makes its official debut.
B&B Automobiltechnik has just released a tuning program for the Audi A4 that is arguably one of the most comprehensive kits that the German tuner has created. Four engine options for the A4 and S4 have engine upgrades available, three of which come with three-stage kits with the other having two stages. That’s a lot of upgrades with the one for the S4 – an increase to 450 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque – representing the biggest improvement in power of the lot.
But that’s not the full extent of B&B’s tuning program. The German tuner also got help from Belgian tuner Caractere, which provided an aerodynamic body kit to ensure that the A4 wasn’t left high and dry on that section. A new set of wheels are also being offered, as is a choice of chassis and suspension improvements, all of which combine to create a stellar package that owners of the A4 and S4 will surely appreciate.
It’s rare that customers are given this kind of variety when it comes to the kind of upgrades they stand to receive from an aftermarket tuner. But B&B answered the bell on this one and as a result, would-be customers can literally have their pick on the kind of power they’d like to see from their A4 and S4 models.

2016 Audi A4 L
Cars have become status symbols for people of all cultures and backgrounds. Here in the U.S., driving something like a Mercedes C-Class puts you higher on the totem pole than someone driving, say, a Chevy Cruze, for instance. Over in China, on the other hand, important people don’t drive – they ride. And, that is exactly why there are so many weird long-wheelbase cars that have debuted at the Beijing Auto Show.
If you stroll the show, you’ll find long-wheelbase variants of the Jaguar XF, Mercedes E-Class, and even the BMW X1 (crazy, right?). As odd as it may seem, it’s completely true, and that’s also why we’re looking at an updated, long-wheelbase version of the Audi A4.
The whole idea behind something like a long-wheelbase A4 is that the rear passengers have more legroom and maybe some extra cargo room. And, that is exactly what makes up the Audi A4L. As you would expect, the A4L took on all of the updates that came with the standard, 2016 A4 and is even available with Audi’s virtual cockpit. The A4L is built primarily for the Chinese market, so don’t expect to see one in the U.S. anytime soon. So, with all of that said, let’s dive in and take a look at the new Audi A4L.

Audi Launches All-New Quattro All-Wheel-Drive System With Ultra Technology
Just as every automaker seems to be up to their knees developing the latest in automotive technology, Audi has momentarily traded in its lab coat for a well-pressed suit to announce its latest technological masterpiece. The German automaker has introduced a new quattro all-wheel-drive system with ultra technology, aimed to make driving experiences more efficient without having to sacrifice the car’s performance and handling characteristics.
The German automaker accomplished this by installing a number of sensors throughout the drive system. Each of these sensors is responsible for monitoring a number of factors that determine the drive system in use at any point in the ride, be it front-wheel-drive or all-wheel drive. Road conditions, vehicle data, and driver behavior all play a part in this automated shifting of drive systems.
The system starts off in all-wheel-drive mode but when it detects that AWD isn’t particularly needed, the AWD system automatically deactivates and transitions into front-wheel-drive. The system then reverts back to all-wheel-drive when driving conditions call for it. According to Audi, that change can happen in a matter of milliseconds, enabling the car to quickly adapt to certain road conditions that forces a car to, for example, lose traction. More impressive is Audi’s claim that the system can analyse an assortment of data instantaneously before reverting back to AWD.
Essentially, this new quattro all-wheel-drive system provides the benefits of front-wheel-drive and its all-wheel counterpart. The company says that this new system can reduce fuel consumption by as much as 0.3 liters/100 kilometers compared to traditional drive systems.
Audi’s new A4 Allroad will get first dibs on this new quattro all-wheel-drive system with ultra technology, although it’s unclear if the company is going to offer this as a standard feature or as an added option. The A4 Allroad is expected to arrive in European markets later this summer with the US market not far behind at the tail end of 2016.

The Audi A4 has been one of those “love it” or “hate it” models for some time, thanks to its conservative body style and rather mundane updates over the years. For 2016, Audi brought the fifth-generation A4 into showrooms, and as expected, it’s more of a facelift than the evolution we hoped for. Highlights of the new-gen model include a more defined grille with sharper points, larger and more aggressive corner air intakes, new layout for the headlight and taillight lenses, and is slightly larger over its predecessor. Inside, the car took on more gracious changes that include a cleaner dash and center stack, standard LED lighting, lightweight seats, a new MMI infotainment system with 4G LTE connectivity, and Audi’s virtual cockpit sitting behind the steering wheel. In the drivetrain department, the A4 got a range of updated engines that range in output from 148 to 268 horsepower.
While Audi went with its traditional ways and did little to the exterior, it did come correct for a new-gen model on the inside. Plus, the car has a rather large range of engines, depending on the market, that will suit just about anyone’s need. Plus, since the A4 is a bit larger than before, which translates into more passenger room and cargo space. Of course, for those who fall into the “love it” category the minor changes outside will be clearly overshadowed by the long list of improvements inside. With that said, check out the full review below to learn about everything Audi brought to the A4 for the 2016 model year.
Updated 01/07/2016: Audi announced that the all-new A4 will be making its North American debut at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show and will be put on sale in the spring of 2016 at a starting price of $37,300.

You may have heard by now that Audi has managed to make a carbon-neutral fuel out of water and carbon dioxide pulled from the air. This is all well and good, but will it work in your car? Nope, but don’t worry, Audi has a solution for that: the A4 G-Tron. The somewhat unfortunately named concept was just unveiled at the Frankfurt Auto Show, and is perhaps most remarkable for being fairly unremarkable. It is basically just a 2016 Audi A4 Avant (wagon) with a dual fuel system, and even this system isn’t too radically different from existing systems that have been in use for years.
It is perhaps not even right to call this a concept, since the G-Tron won’t look any different from other A4s when it hits dealerships in about a year’s time, minus the big decals on the sides, of course. You might be thinking that a year from now is awfully soon for a car that runs on some kind of half-magical new kind of fuel for which there is basically no infrastructure yet. But the G-Tron will also run on natural gas, and regular pump gas as well, giving you more choices for fuel than you ever knew you wanted.

The redesigned 2016 Audi A4, scheduled to arrive in the U.S. in 2016 as a 2017 model, will cross the pond with a diesel engine alongside the familiar 2.0-liter TSFI unit. The oil burner will also be a 2.0-liter four-banger, rated at 190 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque. The new A4 also has a 3.0-liter V-6 with up to 268 horses and 443 pound-feet, but it seems six-cylinder models won’t be sold here.
The diesel mill joins the revised 2.0-liter TFSI gasoline engine producing 252 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of twist. It replaces the previous four-pot rated at 220 horses and 258 pound-feet. Both engines will be available with either front-wheel-drive or quattro, as well as Audi’s seven-speed S tronic transmission, according to Motor Authority. Fuel economy estimates aren’t yet available, but the Germans said efficiency has been improved by up to 21 percent.
The redesigned sedan is scheduled to go on sale next March. Pricing will be revealed closer to launch, but it shouldn’t be significantly more expensive than the current model, priced from $35,500. Don’t expect the Avant to come to the U.S., though an updated version of the Allroad will be launched in a couple of years.

The fourth-generation Audi A4 was launched back in late 2007, making the B9 generation a bit long overdue taking into account Audi’s earlier product cycles. Despite taking its time with the development of the 2016 A4, it seems that the Ingolstadt carmaker is right on track when it comes to testing the model, with a pre-production prototype having been spied recently in Lapland, Sweden. Even though it uses a hefty amount of camouflage, most of the design details hiding underneath can be easily interpreted, not leaving too many surprises for the car’s reveal sometime later in 2015.
As you can see and probably expected, the 2016 Audi A4 will receive a not-exactly-surprising evolutionary exterior design, while overall proportions will be quasi-identical to the current A4. A slightly lower and wider single-frame now unites a pair of headlights which look like a slimmer and squinty versions of the ones from the 2016 Audi Q7, which was recently unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show. Going over to the side, a different design and aerodynamic-related motif is represented by the new mirrors, which are now mounted a bit lower on the doors.
As far as the rear design goes, it seems that the 2016 Audi A4 will offer a look not unlike a mix between the Audi A3 sedan and what we saw on the Audi Prologue Concept but with larger, individual taillights. Built on the Audi MLB Evo architecture, the model should weigh up to 220 pounds, or so, less than its predecessor, while the engine lineup will likely also offer a plug-in hybrid variant. A station wagon "Avant" version should follow suit about six months after the sedan’s unveiling, while the A5 and A5 Sportback will be launched in late 2016 at the earliest.

Audi seems to have ditched the test-mule body of the Audi A4, opting to finally give the next-generation sedan its own set of clothes. The heavily wrapped A4 was recently spotted by our eagle-eyed spy photographers doing some hot-weather testing in Southern Europe, and while the swirly bits made it difficult to make out the car entirely, we did notice a few juicy tidbits on what looks like a more muscular A4.
The A4 prototype in these photos appears to be running on a longer wheelbase with shorter overhangs compared to its predecessor. This could be a product of Audi’s new MLB Evo architecture developed using ultra high-strength steel mixed with aluminum and composite materials. This should help the A4 cut 200 pounds off of its weight, making it more balanced on the road.
Audi has also been tight-lipped about the next-generation A4’s engine options but we do know that the German automaker will offer the usual gas and diesel options, as well as a performance-oriented RS4 packing a turbocharger.
The model is still in the middle stages of testing and development, so we don’t expect to see the next-generation Audi A4 in the coming months. A more realistic timetable would probably be the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show.
Audi’s always had a strong presence at Frankfurt so if there was an auto show where the A4 could be revealed, it would probably be there.

Ever since the upper-management shakeup at Audi last year, details have been murky on when the new A4 sedan and Q7 SUV would make their debuts. Well, as Car & Driver reports, the two popular vehicles have been redirected back into development.
The A4 was originally on track for a debut later this year with its menacing new look, but Audi’s head of R&D, Wolfgang Dürheimer, was unexpectedly “moved to another position within the Volkswagen Group” for apparently ruffling too many feathers in the short 10 months he occupied the position. Now Ulrich Hackenberg, Volkswagen’s R&D former front man, fills the role. Hackenberg made the call to postpone the A4’s launch in order to rework its styling and fine tune its suspension and assistance systems to ensure everything meets Audi’s ever-increasing expectations. It appears the A4 is rescheduled for the summer of 2015 with a hybrid version coming as well.
An oddly similar story surrounds the Q7. Another Audi executive named Wolfgang — this time Wolfgang Egger, Audi’s chief designer — was canned and replaced by yet another Volkswagen employee, Marc Lichte. Now both new in their positions, Hackenberg and Lichte are reworking the Q7 at the design level. Car & Driver’s insider reports the new design will be softer and less aggressive than Egger’s original plans. This is the Q7’s second delay attributed to its exterior design. There’s no real word on when the Q7 will eventually see production, but at this rate, we’re expecting it to fly and cure cancer.

Overall, the A4 is easier than ever to buy and still brings one of the finest interiors in the entry luxury sport sedan segment. This year’s Premium Plus and Prestige models come standard with S-line body kits and a slightly revised front bumper that includes a darker shade for the single-frame grille and a reshaped diffuser piece out back.
Despite the 2012 model year refresh to the headlights and taillights, the A4 is looking quite mature next to the brand new Mercedes-Benz CLA250, BMW 328i and Lexus IS250.
The Audi A4 must also fend off a few credible domestic competitors for the first time, including the Cadillac ATS and the Buick Regal GS.
Rumors are swirling about a refresh in 2014 or 2015. Even so, the current A4 is charged with defending Audi market share in this hyper-competitive luxury compact segment.
Updated 07/02/2014: Audi announced prices and some updates for the 2015 A4 which is now available at dealers. Updates for 2015 include a series of new exterior colors, some new packages and interior updates.

Audi’s rugged allroad wagon is back in America with some major changes, following a hiatus of the previous A6-based models. The new allroad is based on the latest A4, but shares a family appearance with the A6 allroad that will not be coming across the pond in its latest generation.
The realignment of the allroad brand also includes dropping the A4/A6 badges from the official lower-case names. It is a tedious distinction but one also shared by the deliberately-lower-case quattro GMBH tuning division of the luxury automaker. The latest allroad replaces the standard A4 Avant in U.S. price lists.
Naming tweaks aside, the new model is quite handsome and packs a torque-rich turbo four-pot engine in place of the previous model’s 2.7-liter twin-turbo V-6 option. The latest allroad also loses a few features from the original model, namely the adjustable-height suspension that really increased the older model’s versatility but easily adds $5,000 to the build cost.
When lowered, the old allroad had a more aggressive appearance than even the RS6 Avant due to its huge fender flares and flashy aluminum graphics front and rear. The only fly in the ointment was the two-tone bodywork that used unpainted grey plastic for the fenders and sills.
The new Audi allroad goes a long way toward refining the style of the allroad. It offers a large, luxurious interior and some of the most sought-after tech solutions of any car on the market.
The allroad was always a wagon for people who didn’t like following the normal SUV route. This continues with the latest model as it competes for consumer attention with Audi Q5 small SUV. Other thorns in its side include the GLK350 Mercedes-Benz and the BMW X3.
What the allroad delivers is a far more car-like experience paired with light off-road capability. Is this butch wagon enough to lure drivers away from boxy small SUVs?

The most powerful model in the Audi A4 lineup comes equipped with a 3.0 TFSI engine that delivers a total of 272 horsepower. Pretty good, but what if the A4 could do better?
ABT Sportsline had this question in mind and developed its new AS4 package that takes the output to an amazing 380 horsepower, which is even more impressive than the 333 horsepower that the S4 delivers. Peak torque was also increased to 369 pound-feet, which represents an increase of 74 pound-feet.
Customers interested can update any other version in the A4 lineup: the 1.8 engine can be increased to 211 horsepower and the 2.0 liter TFSI to 270 horsepower. If you drive a diesel car you can also opt for some improvements. The 2.0 TDI version can be tricked to deliver 205 horsepower and the 3.0 TDI 300 horsepower.

Audi will launch the next generation A4 in mid-2014 and it will be offered with a more dynamic design and improved technology. The body will remain pretty much unchanged, with updates that include a more prominent single-frame grille, new headlights and taillights, flared wheel arches and a more pronounced spoiler.
The interior will also be improved to offer more interior room and will offer new technology features, like a heads-up display and an MMI Touch infotainment system also used in models like the recently announced A3.
Under the hood, the next A4 will be offered with a wide choice of engines, including a new 1.4-liter TSI engine with an output of either 122 horsepower or 180 horsepower. This new engine will come with cylinder-deactivation technology that will reduce fuel consumption by about 0.5 liter/100km.
The next Audi A4 could also be offered in a plug-in hybrid variant that will combine a 211 horsepower 2.0 TFSI engine with a 95-horsepower electric motor. This new version will deliver autonomy of 50 kilometers (31 miles) on pure electric mode.
Update 12/28/12: This review has been updated with more specific information on the upcoming refreshed A4.
ABT Sportsline first modified an Audi — the Audi 80 — over 40 years ago. In celebration of this long tradition, the tuner has unveiled an AS4 package for the A4 sedan and station wagon. Customers can update any engine they want, starting with the 1.8 TFSI and up to the 3.0 TDI. Along with the engine updates, each car will be offered with a series of aerodynamic updates.
Customers that prefer the petrol engines will have to choose between two updates. For the 1.8 TFSI engine, the output has been increased from the standard 170 horsepower up to 211 and for the 2.0 TFSI engine, this kit drives the power up to 270 horsepower (up from the standard 211 horsepower). The diesel lineup will also be offered with some pretty impressive updates. The 2.0-liter version will be increased to 205 horsepower and the 3.0 TDI will jump to 300 horsepower, which is a 55-horsepower increase over standard.
As for the aerodynamic updates, the tuner is offering a new front spoiler, fender inserts, and side skirts. On the back end, the A4 gets a new spoiler, a skirt, and a four-pipe exhaust system.
ABT will offer a choice of two wheels, sized 19 inches or 20 inches, which can be had in either a CR and DR design. As a final option, ABT is also offering new springs and an ABT coil-over suspension, which lower the car’s ride, giving it a sportier appearance and increasing cornering capabilities.
The old term “They sure don’t build ’em like they used to” should always be followed up with a “Good,” because modern cars perform better in crash tests than any of the land yachts of the 1970s. Yeah, these cars may be smaller and lighter than those of yesteryear, but advancements in crumple zones and energy transfer over the decades has made them into very protective shells that crumple into piles of tin for the sake of protecting their passengers.
Unfortunately, all of this technology is not without its flaws, which the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) is now pointing out. The IIHS has developed a new test to mimic the cause of nearly a quarter of all front-end collision deaths, which is called the “small overlap” test. This is when only a small portion of the front bumper impacts another vehicle or an object.
You may be surprised to hear about who’s failing this important new test. Among those tested to receive the IIHS’ worst rating, “Poor,” was the Mercedes Benz C-Class, Lexus IS and ES, and the Audi A4. Receiving a score of “Marginal,” which is just above poor, is the Acura TSX, BMW 3-Series, Lincoln MKZ, and Volkswagen CC.
Click past the jump for the rest of the results, as well as an obnoxious statement by one top automaker in regards to the testing process.
We firmly believe that the vast majority of cars only look good from certain angles, rather than every angle. In a similar vein, we believe that many cars look far better from the front than they do the rear and vice versa. Two of those cars just happen to be many previous generation Audi A4’s as well as the recently retired BMW 520.
Whether you prefer the front of either to the rear, it doesn’t really matter, but what does matter is the question of joining the two best angles of each together to create a superior looking car.
Well, we recently stumbled upon an interesting sale on eBay UK where a used 1993 Subaru Impreza WRX is being sold with an Impreza interior and custom wheels but most importantly, it’s borrowed the rear-end from the BMW 520 and the front fascia from the Audi A4.
The result?
Interestingly enough, the end result is nowhere near as horrible as one may assume. The owner has managed to combine the two ends in such a way that this interesting Impreza actually looks quite impressive.
With 110,124 miles on the clock, the car has received four bids thus far with the highest bid currently being £4,000.00 (at the time of writing). Also included in the package is a “performance exhaust” and “Predator brakes” and the unnamed owner has promised that it’s been “maintained to [a] high standard.”
With just over five days left of the sale, any prospecting buyers better get a hurry-on as this truly is a unique one-off piece of machinery.
BMW’s 5-Series GT hasn’t been as successful as the company hoped it would be. However, the Bavarian company will expand its Gran Turismo line-up with the addition of two new models, one based on the 3-Series and one on the 1-Series. Audi hopes it can stunt the success of these models as well with its new A4 Superavant.
Audi’s new model will be built on the A4 platform and will be built to fill the gap between the A4 Avant, the Q5, and the up and comingBMW X6-competitor, the Q6 crossover. As for the name, there are three different possibilities: A4 Sportback, A4 Avantissimo, or A4 Superavant, the latter being the most likely.
Under the hood, expect to find a 255 HP 2.0-liter four-cylinder and a 2.0-liter TDI rated at 197 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque.
The new A4 Superavant will be offered as a concept sometime in 2014, with a production version to follow two years later.
Audi has already confirmed that the new RS4 will be making its world debut next month at the Geneva Motor Show, but the company is still making its way through some testing grounds in Southern Europe to see how the car can handle the hot weather. The prototype in these images are still heavily camouflaged, even though the masses already know plenty about the vehicle.
The new Audi RS4 will be featuring feature an aggressive front end, larger and wider wheels, and the possibility of some extra aerodynamic pieces made of carbon fiber. The design of the vehicle will stick to the sporty language already present in the RS5.
The Audi RS4 will also share the RS5’s engine: a 4.2 liter V8. This engine delivers a total of 450 HP at 8,250 rpm and a peak torque of 317.15 lb-ft available between 4,000 and 6,000 rpm. This output will make the RS4 the ideal car for public roads and for the track, all while being able to load the back with the products of your shopping ventures.
The facelift version of the Audi A4 is on sale in Europe and will go on sale in the USA in the summer of 2012. In this short time, the model has already received a number of significant upgrades, but German tuner, ABT Sportsline, is adding another one to the faster version of the A4, the S4. Their package, called the AS4, includes a series of exterior upgrades and some serious engine boosts to allow the A4 to excel.
The exterior changes were made to improve the car’s aerodynamics and were kept to a minimum. These changes include a new air dam, new side sills and wing inserts, aerofoils, rear apron inserts, a two-pipe exhaust system, and, of course, a new set of alloy wheels.
Under the hoods of the different versions of the A4, the most impressive changes were made for the S4. The Audi S4’s 3.0 L TFSI V6 engine was pumped up to 435 HP from the standard 333 HP. The top speed limiter has also been removed, providing the luxury sedan with a top speed of 175 mph, while the 0 to 60 mph sprint is made in 4.8 seconds. The 3.0 TDI engine has also been increased from 245 HP to 282 HP, while the tiny four-cylinder version, the 2.0 TFSI, goes from 211 HP to 275 HP.
The history of the A4 started back in 1972 when the company penned it as the successor for the Audi 80. In October, the ten millionth midsize Audi rolled off the assembly line: a Misano Red Audi S4.
That being said, even the most successful models need to be updated from time to time to keep up with the ever changing market. That time will be the 2013 model year for the A4. The updated model will get a new front fascia with a revised grille, restyled headlights, a modified hood, a new diffuser, revised taillights, and a dual exhaust system. Minor changes will also be made to the interior, along with a revised suspension and a new power steering system.
As for the engine line-up, customers will have the option to choose between six TDI and four gasoline engines, with 23 possible engine-transmission combinations.
UPDATE 11/28/2011: Audi has unveiled the first promotional video for the new A4 facelift. Enjoy!

Next to the facelift versions of the A4 and the S4, Audi has also unveiled the A4 Allroad Quattro version. Just like with the two other models the Allroad version has been improved in all its aspects and we have to admit it looks better than ever!
Just like with the standard models the A4 Allroad Quattro will receive a revised grille, restyled headlights and a modified hood, but it will be distinguished by its grille’s horizontal chrome applications and by the round fog lights. The car is 15.49 ft long and has a luggage compartment capacity of 50.50 cubic ft. The car will come with standard 18" wheels with four independent designs.
The A4 Allroad will generally be offered with the same engines as the standard A4, except with the entry level four-cylinder diesel (the 120 HP version) and the the 3.0 TDI engine. The model comes with standard quattro permanent all-wheel drive system and with either a manual transmission or a S tronic with all engine versions.
And now the best part: the A4 Allroad Quattro will once again be offered on the US market. The model will go on sale in 2012 as a 2013 model.
UPDATE 10/27/2011: This review has been updated with official images and details.
After a 12 year hiatus from participating in the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC), Audi will be headed back to the racing series to try and regain the championship previously won in 1996. In 2011, the Audi name will once again be heard in the competition thanks to private race team, Rob Austin Racing, who will bring two Audi A4 models to compete with in the series.
The Audi A4 models participating in the series will need to be refined in order to meet up with the new Next Generation Touring Car technical regulations. These regulations include the vehicle being capable of front- and rear-wheel drive as well have a ’300bhp+’ turbo-charged engine, but the most important aspect of the new regulations is the lowering of running costs for the teams while still maintaining the performance from the previous years. Currently, GPR Motorsport is working on the future racers, but Rob Austin Racing has provided the rendering above as a preview to the vehicles.
The A4 BTCC will have strong competition next year as the Honda Racing Team (Honda Civic), Team Aon and Airwaves Racing (Ford Focus), Eurotech (Vauxhall Vectra, Special Tuning UK (SEAT Leon) and AmD Milltek Racing.com (VW Golf) have already announced they would be amping up their vehicles with the new regulations for the 2011 season.
Historically, with every new Audi vehicle that was born, a weight increase of about 10% always came along with it. That was, until the Audi A4 came into play in 2009. This Audi, AKA the B8, only carried a little less than 100lbs of a weight gain from the previous model and Audi seems to be the only brand that has managed to drop weight, but increase size. And Audi isn’t stopping the weight reduction with the 2009 A4. In an interview with Autoblog, Heinrich Timm, head of Audi’s Lightweight Design Center, said that the next generation A4 - set to be revealed in 2015 - will lose around 150 kg (330 pounds) from the current weight. In order to do that, Audi will use more aluminum, innovative structural techniques, and composites.
Of course, the first benefit of a lighter car is a lower fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, but it can also improve every aspect of the vehicle’s dynamics – from handling to braking to acceleration. In fact, for every 220lbs lost from a vehicle, that vehicle can get to 60mph in 20 fewer feet. Pretty impressive.
According to Timm, the weight reduction is the only way automakers can simultaneously meet new emission standards while delivering the content and driving experience customers expect. Timm says, "We want to bring it to a higher volume."
Audi A4 Avant received a tuning package from the German tuner Avus Performance. Called Black Arrow is painted in gloss black finish and is powered by a 2.7-liter TDI engine that thanks to an ECU upgrade delivers 230bhp and 358 lb/ft of torque (up from a standard 190bhp and 295 lb/ft).
The car is also equipped with coilovers and lowering springs. It sits on massive 21 inch wheels. The car can be also ordered in matte black or white.
The ‘Billboard War’ between Audi and BMW has taken a new life of its own, thanks to the latter’s new Billboard in Ingolstadt, which incidentally, is the home turf of Audi.
If you recall, the two European automakers engaged in a ‘can-you-top-this?’ billboard duel in California, USA last April. The first salvo was thrown by Audi, which created a billboard for the Audi A4 with the tag line ‘Your move, BMW’ at its dealership along Santa Monica Boulevard. Not to be outdone, BMW commissioned Juggernaut Advertising, which came up with a brilliant response to Audi’s billboard. Across the street from the Audi billboard was put up, BMW produced a bigger billboard of its BMW M3 with the simple tag-line of ‘Checkmate’ – a direct reference to Audi’s slogan.
The German automaker Audi has just announced prices for the 2010 A4 and A5 sedan and coupe as well as the Q5 compact crossover. In the appropriate Vorsprung das Tecnik fashion, each of the luxury vehicles have been improved for next year. The A4 and A5 now feature LED tail lights as part of the Premium Plus and Prestige trim packages, the sporty A5 will also receive, for the first time, the same fuel efficient 2.0 Liter TFSI direct-injection four cylinder engine that is offered in the A4. The larger Q5 Prestige will also offer an optional Luxury Package to make customers feel like their money was well spent.
The 2010 Audi A4 will start at $31,450 equipped with the TFSI 2.0 Liter driving the front wheels and goes all the way up to $42,250 for the quattro version when they start to make their way into showrooms. The sporty A5 will start out at $36,000 for a 2.0 TFSI powered quattro Coupe with a manual transmission and will go all the way up to $45,500 for a Tiptronic. The Audi Q5 SUV is not only the heaviest of the bunch, but will also tip the monetary scales the most with a starting rice of $37,350 that climbs to $48,850 depending on how luxurious a packages you prefer.
Press release after the jump.
Audi is offering new entry-level engines for both the Audi Q5 and Audi A4 Allroad. The Q5 gets the 2.0 TDI and the 2.0-liter TFSI, both in conjunction with the 6-speed manual transmission. The diesel engine is also available for the A4 Allroad.
Both engines are in-line four-cylinder engines with direct injection, with the diesel version developing 143 hp and the gasoline one 180 hp.
Press release after the jump.
Watch out Bugatti, because someone has just has just recorded a land speed record, for an alternatively fueled vehicle. This gas powered Audi A4 sped its way into the pages of the Guinness Book Of World Records with a 225+ MPH run. Under the hood, the four door Audi uses a modified turbocharged 3.0 Liter V6 running on compressed natural gas. An added advantage of the alternative gas is its rating of 120 octane, allowing Hohenester, the tuners which prepared the vehicle, to pile on the boost without worrying about detonation. Although the twin turbo motor makes closer to 800 HP, it was restricted to only 700 ponies for the record setting 226.55 MPH run.
What we want to know is, where to get some CNG for our test fleet.
Audi launched the most fuel efficient A4 in the line-up: the A4 2.0 TDI e with a fuel consumption of 4.6 liters of diesel per 100 kilometers (51.13 miles per U.S. gallon) and CO2 emission of 119 g/km.
The e version delivers 136 hp and can sprint from 0 to 62 mph in just 9.5 seconds and can hit a top speed of 133.59 mph.
Sales will begin at a price of 30,800 euros.
Press release after the jump.
It was no big surprise when Audi confirmed at the Geneva Motor Show that its wagon/crossover A4 allroad would not be part of the U.S. lineup. The limited market and the failure of the A6 allroad seemed like an easy decision to keep the car off the wagon-fearing shores of North America. But now that Subaru has a new Outback on the way, everything may have changed.
The Truth About Cars has a source within Audi North America who said, “Audi believes there’s a large number of U.S. Outback owners who’re tired of the brand. Customers who want the same sort of vehicle, only better.” Now the A4 allroad mat be in U.S. showrooms as early as September.
Audi sells the A4 allroad in Europe starting at €37,100 (about $49K at direct current rates), and the current Outback starts at $22,295. Last year Subaru sold 44,280 Outbacks, so is this market big enough for Audi to skim the cream off the top?
Not all of us can get to Ingolstadt, Germany to watch Audi build an A4, so the next best thing is to see Audi’s video from the factory. We’re sure Audi didn’t plan ahead when making this video, and its assembly line is just littered with attractive blondes. Hmmmmm.
It’s a wagon...It’s an SUV...It’s the Audi A4 allroad quattro. Audi will officially unveil the A4 allroad quattro in March at the Geneva Motor Show, but it is already letting the details out. The car will go on sale in early summer at a base price of €37,100. That’s about $47,500 at current rates, but Audi has confirmed the A4 allroad will not make it to the U.S. Audi sold the original A6-based allroad North America, but it was pulled in 2006 due to weak sales.
The A4 allroad quattro will be offered with a choice of three engines: 211 hp 2.0-liter TFSI, 170 hp 2.0-liter TDI diesel, and 240 hp 3.0-liter TDI diesel.
These are available with either a six-speed manual transmission or dual-clutch S tronic transmission depending on engine choice.
The A4 allroad shares a resemblance with the Audi A4 Avant on which the allroad is based. Some distinguishing elements include the higher ride height, wider stance (less than an inch more than the A4 Avant), and two-tone paint created by the body cladding. For lovers of crossover vehicles, the allroad is one of the first and best examples. It combines the car and SUV together in a package that’s more car (and thus, more fun) than almost anything else out there.
