Cars are getting more and more advanced every year, leaving them more dependent on electronics and technology. With this increasingly blurry line dividing the world of technology like laptops and smartphones and the world of cars, more tech companies are having a go at making their first automobiles. Hon Hai Technology Group, the owner of Foxconn, debuted three new electric vehicles at the Hon Hai Tech Day 2021 event. Those electric vehicles are the Model C, Model E, and the ambitiously named Model T.

The Pininfarina Battista needs no introduction. It officially made its debut at the Monterey Car Week a couple of months back with a price tag of $2.2 million. The photos of it on the winding roads of California right before the said event gave us an idea of how gorgeous this EV is. Now, it has officially received the award. The automaker announced that the Battista won the coveted Design Award at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este in Lake Como, Italy. Well, we couldn’t agree more.

Pininfarina had jointly designed and developed nine Leggenda eClassic Simulators with ‘The Classic Car Trust’ to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the start of Battista “Pinin” Farina’s career. Pininfarina revealed the first production-ready Battista at the 2021 Monterey Car Week, but it seems the company couldn’t wait to let it soak in some of the sun’s vitamin-filled rays. The Battista was put through the paces – legally – on California roads. And it somehow made it look like those winding mountain roads were built for the Battista and not the other way around.

The car presented in Monterey is finished in a distinctive black exposed signature carbon fiber that is visually enhanced by the black gloss precision polished Impulso wheels. On the inside, you’ll see black sustainable luxury leather with Iconica Blue contrast stitching and quilted Pilota seats wrapped in blue Alcantara. Under the body lies a 120 kWh battery and four electric motors. Those motors are said to be good for 1,900 horsepower and 1,696 pound-feet of torque – enough for a 62-mph sprint in 1.9 seconds and a top speed of 260 mph. It’s not for everyone, though, as Pininfarina is only building 150 examples and each one comes at a minimum cost of $2.5 million.

Ahead of its appearance at the Monterey Car Week, the very first production-ready version of the much-awaited Pininfarina Battista made a spectacular debut on the roads of California. The model that is all set to be displayed during the Monterey event can be finally seen in all its glory on the road.

Pininfarina, the company best well known for its association with Ferrari, wants to break free from under the shade of the Prancing Horse and make a name for itself as the builder of the fastest car to come out of Italy. The name of this car? Battista, like the name of the company’s founder. The numbers that should firmly plant this car on the map? 1,900 horsepower and 1,696 pound-feet, a 0 to 62 mph sprint in less than two seconds, and a top speed of about 250 mph. All done by an EV powertrain that’s capable of running over 300 miles between charges.

Reading those numbers it’s easy to dismiss the Pininfarina Battista as just another ludicrous car that will never actually become reality. Something like the Devel Sixteen, the Arabian hypercar that packs a V-16 engine that’s capable of 5,000 horsepower. That one was supposedly slated to start final testing this month. Or the equally insane Vector WX-8, Jerry Wiegert’s project that should’ve brought his once proud company back from the dead. He said 12 years ago that a 10-liter, twin-turbocharged, V-8 will power the car and that it will crank out 1,850 horsepower. More recently, Wiegert sold his two WX-3 prototypes to fund the project.

But the Battista is a more serious offering than both those elusive creations. First off, Pininfarina was bought by Mahindra four years ago for $190.6 million and, as we know, Mahindra has the financial power to throw cash at a project like this if so desires. With Pininfarina aiming to build just 150 of these, 50 dedicated to each of its three markets: Europe, America, and the Middle-East, we can expect people to actually come forth with pre-orders once it gets revealed at Geneva in a couple of weeks.

Unveiled at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show and originally scheduled to go into production in 2020, the Pininfarina Battista has yet to hit public roads, but the all-electric supercar is ready to meet its first customers. Pininfarina latest testing session took place on Italy’s Nardo track, where former F1 and Formula E racer Nick Heidfeld put the Battista through its paces over a few fast laps.

Electric cars are no longer just about commuting without burning oil and emitting CO2. Technology has advanced so much in recent years that electric cars can now be as quick or even quicker that gasoline-powered supercars. We already have the Lotus Evija and NIO EP9 to look at for proper examples, but more high-tech and high-powered EVs are in the making.

One of them comes from Pininfarina. It’s called the Battista, we’ve seen it in prototype form in 2019, and the Italian firm is currently testing it at the Nardo track. The loop is mostly famous for top speed testing, particularly by Bugatti, but Pininfarina says they’re not looking to set new records.

The automotive world is one of enormous diversity. Quite often designers are given the green light to unleash their imagination giving us some truly amazing stuff. That said, the modern-day regulations has been cracking down harder and harder on the automotive design language, and many amazing concepts remained one-offs. Pininfarina is responsible for some of the most provocative-looking cars in history. From legendary machines like the Ferrari F40 and Ferrari Enzo to staggering custom creations like the Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe Hyperion, BMW Gran Lusso Coupe, and Fittipaldi EF7 Vision Gran Turismo, Pininfarina’s design DNA can be found in some of history’s most attractive rides. Automakers far and wide have come to Pininfarina for their automotive design needs, and the Italian design house has proven time and again that it’s the go-to firm for those needs. A big part of the studio’s success rests on the designers that it has in the fold.

One such designer, Daniel Gombo, technically isn’t employed by Pininfarina, but he did just finish his master’s thesis under the supervision of the Italian firm and part of that thesis required Gombo to design a vehicle.

Pininfarina never misses an opportunity to showcase something special at the Geneva Motor Show. It helps that its stand is located right as you come up the stairs from the main hallway, so you can’t really miss its stunning concepts.

Although it was forced to reveal the Battista Anniversario on the world wide web this year, Pininfarina didn’t forget how to make a splash, albeit on our screens and not in the metal.

Pininfarina, once Ferrari’s preferred coachbuilder, is now busy establishing itself as a standalone automaker. It put its best foot forward by unveiling the radical Battista hypercar that promises to be one of the fastest four-wheeled things on the planet and now it’s doubling it down by announcing a whole range of models, the first of which will be an SUV. Fear not, however, as the Pura Vision isn’t your average sporty SUV as Pininfarina aims to deliver supercar-level performance under a skin that both resembles a four-door GT and the existing Battista. It sounds like a match made in heaven.

Coming with an outlandishly appointed cabin and a class-bending profile, the Pininfarina Pura Vision could seriously reduce the market share of Lamborghini’s Urus and Ferrari’s upcoming Purosangue. While we’re yet to feast our eyes with the pre-production prototype showcased to prospective customers during a series of VIP events held by Pininfarina in August during the Monterey Car Week, those that have are talking about a sleek and not overly complicated design so typical of Pininfarina, one that’ll only be matched by its impressive performance. At this stage of the game, the Pura Vision might become Pininfarina’s most important product so they have to get it right.

Between four-figure output numbers, seven-figure price tags, and designs pulled from the brains of aerospace engineers, these machines bring enough hype to wake the dead. Such is the case with the 2020 Pininfarina PF0 Battista, an all-electric Italian stallion capable of hitting 60 mph in just 1.9 seconds and topping out at 250 mph. The Battista is swimming in so many superlatives it’s hard to imagine another début in 2019 that can upstage the sheer spectacle it provided in Geneva last week. The Battista also happens to feature a number of easter eggs, none more eye-catching than the “2019 Geneva” badge that’s sitting inside its headlights. The badge could mean different things to different people, but for the most part, it’s a nod to the Geneva Motor Show, the event that has hosted some of the most incredible cars penned and developed by the legendary Italian company.
