There is no dearth of electric cars in the market now. We aren’t just talking about the urban commuters, but also fast electric cars. There are many new automakers that start their electric car journey with fast cars or electric supercars. Companies like Estrema, Aspark, and even Tesla, for that matter, came up with fast electric sports cars or electric supercars. While some have faded into oblivion after showing us promising concepts, some have weathered the storm and are either into production or will enter production.

Here’s a list of the eight fastest electric cars in the world today that are in the production stage or about to enter production. Some of these fast cars are from mainstream automakers, some from established EVmakers, and some from new start-ups.

In a recent interview with MotorTrend, Mate Rimac gave us an idea about the future path of the renowned French automaker, Bugatti. According to Rimac, one thing is for certain: it will be distinct from what has been seen thus far.

We have been following this story (Bugatti-Rimac merger) for a while now at TopSpeed and the day has finally come. Porsche and Rimac , the Croatian EV performance automaker, have agreed to form a joint venture that will include Volkswagen’s high-performance marque; Bugatti .

After Mate Rimac talked about the Nevera’s straight-line performance, and followed up with some pretty outrageous specs for the new Nevera, we didn’t exactly need to see the car go to know that it’s an aggressive and mean machine. Then, just a couple of days after it was revealed, a Rimac employee got caught on camera hauling ass down a slim public road in none other than the Nevera. As you can imagine, this is an unexpected development.

Today, tuning a car requires either having a lot of know-how and technology, or dropping your car off at an aftermarket tuner like Hennessey, ABT Sportsline, or Brabus among many, many others. We’re already to a point where tuning has gone beyond simple bolt-on upgrades or deeper engine work with computer remapping capable of adding, in some cases, 100 horsepower or more depending on the car. In the future, however, going to a tuner will be obsolete, much like going to a store and renting a movie or video game is today. The first car to legitimately prove that, is the all-new Rimac Nevera.

Three years after previewing the C_Two concept, Rimac has finally unveiled the production version called the Nevera. The Nevera is an all-electric, 1,900+ horsepower electric vehicle that can sprint to 60 mph from rest in just 1.85 seconds! It comes with a WLTP-estimated range of 342 miles and even supports fast charging with speeds of up to 500 kW. Rimac will build just 150 examples of Nevera and comes with a sticker price of €2 million (approximately $2.5 million) a pop. Are you willing to put your money on this Croatian product?

Rimac Automobili’s YouTube channel hits us with more details regarding the Rimac Concept Two’s straight-line performance. We already know that the Rimac Concept Two will be a very quick car. The combined power of its electric propulsion system is 1,914 horsepower (1,408 kilowatts) and 1,696 pound-feet (2,300 Nm). Mate Rimac – the founder of Rimac Automobili hits us with some new details about the hyper EV. We already know that, in a straight line, the C Two will be insanely quick. The 0 to 60 mph (97 km/h) sprint takes just 1.85 seconds.

Porsche has raised its ownership stake in Rimac, going from owning a minority share of 15.5 percent to 24 percent. The deal cost Porsche €70 million, or around $83.2 million based on current exchange rates. This is the third time the German automaker has invested in its Croatian company. Back in 2018, Porsche secured a 10 percent minority stake in Rimac before that share grew to 15.5 percent in 2019. Other automakers have also bought into Rimac, specifically Hyundai and Kia. The two Korean brands invested €80 million, or around $95.1 million, as part of a technical partnership that would give birth to a pair of high-performance electric vehicles.

The Volkswagen Group could be on the verge of selling Bugatti to Rimac. A report from German weekly Automobilewoche quoted Porsche CEO and Volkswagen AG management board member Oliver Blume hinting that a decision on the blockbuster sale could happen by the middle of 2021.

There are a lot of facets to developing a hypercar. A long list of parameters and features must work perfectly together or by themselves, and the ability to cut through air or generate downforce are not to be ignored.

The Rimac C_Two has been in development for the better part of two years, and even though the final production version hasn’t been revealed, the Czech automaker hasn’t had trouble attracting prospective customers.

No, Rimac hasn’t sold the C_Two’s entire production run, but it has filled up the supercar’s production allocation for the first year. That’s the word from no less than Rimac’s head honcho Mate Rimac, who took to Facebook to clarify rumors that all 150 planned units of the C_Two are already accounted for.

Revived in 1987 by Italian entrepreneur Romano Artioli, Bugatti was acquired by the Volkswagen Group in 1998. Under German ownership, the French brand introduced the Veyron and the Chiron, as well as a handful of one-off supercars, all powered by massive W-16 engines with more than 1,000 horsepower. Come 2020 and Bugatti could be sold off, and rumor has it the French company may end up with Rimac Automobili, the Croatian firm that produces electric supercars, drivetrains, and battery systems.

Nico Rosberg lives a relatively charmed life, at least compared to most of the world’s population. After winning the 2016 Formula One Driver’s Championship, Rosberg retired like a boss, ensuring that he left the sport sitting on the mountaintop.

Since then, the German driver has dabbled in driver management, television hosting, and eco-entrepreneurship. But just because Rosberg has been gone from motor racing for four years, that doesn’t mean his thirst for speed and performance has dissipated. On the contrary, Rosberg remains a driver/racer at heart, and his latest car purchase proves as much. In the event that you’re desperate to own a Rimac C-Two but you can’t afford one, now’s a good chance to live vicariously through Nico Rosberg, who proudly showed off his latest four-wheeled acquisition, much to our collective jealousy.

Croatia’s very own all-electric hypercar maker Rimac is busy making the C_Two, a semi-autonomous, 1914-horsepower rival to anything the established bunch has to offer.

While we wait to see how a C_Two off the production line really feels like, the company teases us with the car’s myriad of features out of which, obviously, we picked this one because you know as well as we do that 1,696 pound-feet of torque doesn’t mean much unless it can all be translated into clouds of tire smoke.

The Rimac C_Two was supposed to make its official debut at the 2020 Geneva Motor Show. The coronavirus, of course, had other plans, and the event got cancelled altogether, so Rimac had to postpone the launch.

It’s been a race against the clock to get the C_Two up and running for its supposed debut in March, and seeing Misha Charoudin driving the car and getting this sort of emotions from it got us thinking that Rimac might have outdone itself with the C_Two.

The production variant of the Rimac C Two is coming at the 2020 Geneva Motor Show, but Rimac isn’t exactly on holiday these days. The two-seater, all-electric hypercar needs to be locked and loaded by the time Geneva kicks off (unless the recent coronavirus developments will force the authorities to cancel the show), and Rimac is hard at work to ready the C Two for its debut.
