Supercars are near the top of the automotive food chain when it comes to performance and engineering. Because of this, they can be quite expensive to develop. When you hear supercar, you probably think Ferrari or Lamborghini – two brands backed up by the financial might of their parent companies. But in 2014, an engineer and car enthusiast named Jeff Lemke proved that you don’t need the financial might of a big car company to build a proper supercar. In 2014 he made the Falcon F7. Here’s everything you need to know about this almost entirely home-built supercar.

The Falcon F7 project commenced when engineer and car enthusiast Jeff Lemke decided it’s time to build his very own supercar. It took Falcon Motorsports less than three years to complete it, just in time to show the production version of the vehicle at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show. The F7’s configuration is pretty much basic and in accordance with today’s supercar standards. It rides on a tungsten inert gas-welded aluminum chassis with a carbon-fiber/kevlar reinforced floor pan, the body panels are made of carbon fiber, while the GM-sourced V-8 engine is mounted behind the seats.

Yes, like most small automotive ventures, Falcon Motorsports did not develop its own powertrain or suspension system, choosing to borrow them from the previous Chevrolet Corvette Z06.

Although the recipe sounds similar to those used by Shelby SuperCars or Hennessey, the Falcon F7 has yet to stir the supercar waters, probably because it has no speed records or thousands of horsepower attached to its name. But despite its rather anonymous status, this unique, daring vehicle is worthy of your attention.

Mach7 Motorsports waltzed into the 2011 Detroit Auto Show with a killer new machine that was poised to further represent America in the supercar war of the worlds. Turns out, that was just a prototype and they’re back in Detroit again to reveal their polished Falcon F7. The new Falcon F7 supercar will go on sale at a starting price of $195,000, with some versions heading up to $250,000. Mach7 Motorsports hopes to produce fifteen cars in the first year, twenty- five plus cars in the second year, and then consistently produce one hundred or more cars in each of the following years.

The Falcon F7 will feature an all carbon-fiber body, an aluminum/carbon fiber monocoque chassis, a billet suspension, an extreme power to weight ratio, and hand-crafted interiors. It is powered by a 7.0 liter V8 engine that delivers a total of 620 HP at 6600 rpm and 585 lb-ft of torque at 5400 rpm. With the extra power, the Falcon F7 will sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 3.3-3.6 seconds and will hit a top speed somewhere between 190 to 200 mph.

When it comes to supercars, America is fairly well-represented against its European contemporaries with the SSC Ultimate Aero and the Saleen S7. But even if the Land of the Free has some noteworthy machines on its side, the other side of the pond has more options to choose from, including the high-and-mighty Bugatti Veyron.

In an attempt to bolster the American supercar line-up, Mach7 Motorsports, led by its founders, Jeff and Carl Lemke, recently introduced the Falcon supercar at the 2011 Detroit Motor Show. Despite being a pre-production car, all signs are pointing to the Mach77 Falcon being ready for production in the future, at least until after finishing touches and performance tests are done on it.

In any case, Mach7 is looking into building 15 Falcon models every year with seven being built at a time and in six-month intervals. When it becomes ready to be sent off to dealerships, early estimates indicate that the Falcon will be priced at around $200,000, a far cheaper alternative than its American supercar brethren, the Saleen S7 and the SSC Ultimate Aero.
