Husqvarna Joins the Electric Bike Frenzy
The motorcycling world is going electric whether you like it or not and the latest manufacturer to jump on the bandwagon is Swedish brand Husqvarna, now part of the KTM group. In effect, the E-Pilen is a Svartpilen with an electric motor in place of the petrol engine. Swappable battery technology is no surprise, given KTM’s partnership with Piaggio, Honda and Yamaha in developing such tech. You can’t buy it yet, but it won’t be long!
Husqvarna Norden 901 Ready To Launch
Husqvarna showed the concept Norden 901 at the EICMA show back in 2019. Since then, nothing much has been heard of it, until now. The first in a series of videos introducing the bike before an imminent launch has been released on Husqvarna’s website and its Youtube channel. It doesn’t show the bike, but talks to the two designers responsible for taking the bike from concept to production-ready.
Steve McQueen’s First Husqvarna Could Make Six-Figures at Auction
Steve McQueen played a big part in establishing the Husqvarna brand in the U.S. His first Husky was bought after seeing Swedish World Champion Bengt Åberg racing his Viking 360. McQueen bought it there and then and it remained in his collection until his death in 1980. Now, it’s up for auction in August.
2021 Husqvarna Svartpilen125
Husqvarna expanded its burgeoning Svartpilen lineup downward with the addition of the entry-level “125” model, the smallest in the family. A 125 cc thumper drives a rugged machine that has clear urban DNA with a dual-sport bent. The lightweight and narrow-waisted 125 both enables and encourages the use of body English so you can practice and get accustomed to shifting around on a bike. For our friends in areas with tiered learner’s permits, the 125 comes “A1” compliant right off the showroom floor to make it even more accessible for younger riders.
2018 - 2020 Husqvarna Vitpilen 701
The Vitpilen 701 joined its diminutive 401 sibling to double the number of Black Arrows on offer last year from Husqvarna. Like its little brother, the 701 packs all of its cubeage into a single cylinder to the tune of 692.7 cc with a respectable 75 horsepower on tap and ready to go. Contemporary style and a race-tastic vibe give the 701 even more of what makes the 401 so popular, and it’s clearly targeting mature/experienced buyers while simultaneously trying to appeal to the Millennial buyers who, thus far, have largely shunned the two-wheeled lifestyle but seem to be crazy about the ’Pilen range.
2019 - 2020 Husqvarna Svartpilen 701
Husqvarna expanded its streetbike lineup ahead of MY2019 with the new, flat track inspired Svartpilen 701. The Svartpilen – literally Black Arrow in Swedish – carries the relatively new family of naked bikes into streetfighter territory with a race-tastic chassis and the largest engine currently offered by the streetbike division. Thoroughly modern, the Svartpilen comes loaded with all sorts of top-shelf safety and ride-quality tweaks to deliver the stability and peace of mind that is becoming more ubiquitous, and expected, almost daily.
Top Speed Top Six Naked Streetfighters to consider for beginners
A motorcycle with an upright riding position, lacking plastic fairings for that narrow lane splitting ability, and lightweight construction for the ease of flickability is what we are looking for folks entering the world of two-wheels.
Providing confidence before they can get on the big guns, these motorcycles are the perfect choice for urban hooligans, making it easier than the rest to move around traffic and obstacles. Small mistakes on these machines could be classified as affordable and will be a perfect linear learning curve onto becoming a responsible motorcyclist.
Top Speed Top Six Scramblers to buy under $10,000
With knobby tires, spoked wheels, and higher suspension travels, this segment is ready to take on tough terrains across the world. The retro-modern design language is literally in fashion now, and most of the Scramblers in the 2020 line-up flaunt them. It is an intelligent fusion of an old-school cover over modern technology that is born to live both the city and the wildlife.
Here is a list of our six favorite Scramblers who does all of that for just under $ 10,000. Aiding it will be a torquey motor with high mounted exhaust pipes and knobby tires to take it on terrains otherwise not possible.
"The Apex 2.0" – A custom Husqvarna Vitpilen 701 commissioned by Charles Leclerc
He’s 22, he drives for my favorite team, he’s from the home that runs my favorite circuit, he’s the youngest to win the Pole Trophy, he’s Charles Leclerc.
A precocious champion with breathtaking talent and ballistic pace, Charles has been fast-tracked into the money-can’t-buy race seat at Ferrari. Raking up the space left by Scuderia’s last world champion, Kimi Räikkönen, he promptly scored more race wins and points than his teammate, an established number one, Sebastian Vettel. That’s some profile!
Out of the car, Leclerc is modest and thoughtful and apparently loves seeing the world go past by like flashes of strobes, even on two wheels.
He recently commissioned a cool custom build of a Husqvarna Vitpilen 701 from one of the fanciest French builder, Bad Winners . It’s got ten more horses, is 60 lbs lighter and goes by the name - "The Apex 2.0".
