Hyundai Motor Company or simply Hyundai Motors is a South Korean car manufacturer headquartered in Seoul. Hyundai has been around since 1967 and at the time of writing, it formed the so-called Hyundai Motor Group together with Kia and Genesis. Hyundai is also the third largest car manufacturer in the world - it employs around 75,000 people worldwide and operates the world’s largest automotive manufacturing facility in Ulsan. The plant has an annual production capacity of 1.6 million units. Hyundai sells its cars through a network of 5,000 dealerships and showrooms located in 193 countries. It also operates an R&D center in Germany (as of 1994), while its European headquarters are located in Rüsselsheim, which is also the home of Opel. Hyundai’s first car, the Cortina, was launched in collaboration with Ford. Hyundai entered the British market in 1982 and four years later, the carmaker began selling cars in the U.S. as well, under the Hyundai Motor America moniker. The brand’s first U.S.-sold model was the Excel, which sold in 168,882 units during its first year on the market but eventually succumbed to its faulty nature.
