We love celebrating car birthdays and this year is the Lamborghini Jalpa’s 40th anniversary. The car that was once considered the entry-level Lamborghini has now become 40 years old, having been produced between 1981 and 1988. With only 410 units produced, it certainly is rare and prices have started to reflect that. Here’s a brief overview of the 1980s “Baby Lambo”.

The Lamborghini Centenario shook the world at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, when it was unveiled to celebrate Ferruccio Lamborghini’s 100th birthday. Aside the waves it sent through every car-centric medium at the time, it’s even more striking today, four years later, as it continues to look like an alien of a car.

Lamborghini loves to churn out as many derivatives out of its exotic-looking supercars and in a move we honestly didn’t see coming, the Sian FKP37 will return to the limelight as a roadster.

A recent report talks about a Sian Roadster that Lamborghini is currently working on, but other details are pretty much nonexistent.

There’s something to be said for an aftermarket company that can just roll out of bed in the morning, decide that it wants to build a concept model based on a Lamborghini Aventador, and then proceed to envision what it would do with it when it decides to make it.

That’s how it goes over at DMC these days. During a recent interview with LamboCars, the supercar tuner was asked what it could whip up should a customer say he wants a heavily modded Aventador without any budget constraints.

And this is what DMC came up with; an indescribable piece of engineering that we don’t even know where to begin. It’s already been christened as the Lamborghini Aventador LP1200-4R and in true Lambo nomenclature, the "1200" on its name is representative of the 1,200 horsepower DMC is capable of getting out of the exotic’s 6.5-liter, V-12 engine. Doing that, though, will constitute adding twin-turbos, as well as increasing the displacement by 1.2 liters to a mammoth 7.7-liter engine.

To be clear, this is still a concept, and there are no hints of it being built and developed in the future. But when the company said that it could build a $2.5 million program for the Aventador and it shows something like this, clearly DMC isn’t joking.

But get this; that 1,200-horsepower output it can get out of the Aventador doesn’t even compare to what it can do when a customer really wants a missile on his hands. According to DMC, if somebody really wants to push all the boundaries of speed and power, 2,000 ponies is attainable.

As far as the aerodynamics of the car are concerned, DMC has also prepared a list of new components it would want on the project, which includes a new body kit, stronger air intakes, more air vents, an adjustable-fin air brake system, an adaptive ride height, gold-plated intakes and a new set of 20- and 21-inch wheels on the front and back.

All told, the Lamborghini Aventador LP1200-4R is being touted as having 1,200 horsepower and 671 pound-feet of torque, while weighing just 3,473 pounds. When it’s fully stretching its legs, the concept is capable of hitting 62 mph in 2.3 second to go with a top speed of somewhere in the neighborhood of 250 mph.

Being a bit of a sneakerhead myself, I can appreciate collaborations between the kicks industry and the auto industry. Remember a few years ago when Nike released a special-edition Kobe Bryant sneaker in collaboration with Aston Martin?

Not to brag, but yes, I have that in my collection.

In any case, the recent LeBron 11/11 Experience held in Miami for LeBron James’ 11th signature sneaker with Nike had a pretty interesting guest during the event: a unique Lamborghini Aventador Roadster that was worked on by auto designer Rich B. Caliente in partnership with Toys for Boys Miami and Lou La Vie.

The special wrap Caliente used on the Aventador was inspired by the first signature release of the LeBron XI, called "King’s Pride." If you know the sneaker game, you might also recognize the South Beach-styled design from the Lebron X Low Championship Pack Edition.

Either way, there aren’t a lot of Lamborghini Aventadors in this world that looks as unique and eye-catching as this one. Kind of makes you wonder why somebody would take off that wrap once the event is offer. It looks awesome on the Aventador and more importantly, fits right into the laid back yet flash lifestyle Miami is known for.

When someone comes to ask you if you want to spend an entire day with the Lamborghini Aventador coupe and roadster versions, the only correct answer will be:

"Yes, please!"

Or... “Si Si Prego,” in bad Italian if you want to have them for a few extra days.

This is exactly what the guys over the British magazine AutoCar did when they were invited to spend the day with the Aventador.

What can you do when you have both the Aventador Coupe and Roadster in your garage? Not much, right? While most of the people will try to put them next to their usual competitors, AutoCar decided to do something a little bit more interesting. They put the two supercars one next to the other and wanted to see which one is the best. In theory they should deliver the same driving experiences, but in real life is a little bit different.

AutoCar didn’t put the two models on a 0 to 60 mph test, not quarter mile or top speed. Instead they wanted to see if the two models can fly!

Los Angeles based tuner, Misha Designs, has prepared quite a few surprises for the upcoming 2013 SEMA. Next to the Porsche 911 body kit announced the other day, the Misha will also bring its new wide-body Lamborghini Aventador Roadster to the aftermarket show in Las Vegas.

Misha Designs revealed pretty much no details on this kit up to this point, but for sure it will be unveiled in all its glory on November 5th at the SEMA. What we do know is that while the model to be displayed in Vegas will be based on a Aventador Roadster, the first prototype was based on a Aventador Coupe.

Clients interested can already pre-order the kit and deliveries will begin immediately after the show. Don’t worry, if you don’t own an Aventador, during 2014 Misha Designs will prepare some body kits for all Lamborghini models.

DMC Luxury has applied its wild Molto Veloce and LP900 upgrade kits to the Aventador Roadster to create the first modified example of this brand-new exotic from Lamborghini. Called the Aventador Roadster ‘Black’, the DMC upgrade includes a laundry list of exterior carbon fiber styling mods to go along with the frightening engine note and intimidating looks.

As if any Aventador needs more street cred, the DMC team’s comprehensive exterior make-over is quite effective at making your Aventador Roadster one of a kind - and looking like an escapee from the nearest race circuit.

The modifications on the DMC prototype show off the wide variety of upgrades offered by the supercar specialist. In fact, all the upgrades shown are available individually as well. Pricing requires significant cash reserves, or perhaps your own oil field. Even so, the upgrades are more custom-tailored and actually far cheaper than ordering all the dress-up aerodynamic accessories directly from Sant’Agata.

As its name implies, this DMC Aventador is indeed Molto Veloce - which means too hot to touch - in the desert sun of the firm’s press photos. With three custom Lambo’s parked on the street in front of the firm’s Marbella showroom, it looks like DMC has no shortage of wealthy owners seeking the ultimate in supercar personalization.

The Lamborghini Aventador Roadster. Really, what is there to say about this supercar that hasn’t been said before? We’ve run out of superlatives to describe what we feel about this bad-boy.

But somehow, aftermarket extraordinaire, Wheelsandmore, managed to make it even better.

Are we surprised? With this tuner, not the least bit.

This has always been the M.O. for Wheelsandmore. Get a stock sports/supercar and then make it better. Far often than not, it succeeds with its programs. And on the rare times that it doesn’t, well, the projects still look pretty spectacular.

In the case of the Aventador Roadster, Wheelsandmore spared no expense, giving the Italian exotic a program fit for a king. There are wraps. There are wheels. And there are engine upgrades.

All in a day’s work, really, for one of the best aftermarket companies in the world.

If at some point in the year you decide to finally take the jump and buy a Lamborghini Aventador Roadster, we’d be the first ones to offer you congratulations.

That is until after we remind you that, according to Lamborghini, the entire inventory of Aventador Roadsters until the middle of next year has already been sold out.

Yep. If you want one, you’re going to have to wait a really long time to get it. This news isn’t all that surprising, considering the Aventador, for one, is really awesome and for another thing, is really, really awesome.

It certainly looks like Lamborghini has another hot ticket on their hands, making them two for two with the Aventador. If you really insist on getting yours in advance, then the you must pay an enormous amount in advance or comply to paying special taxes.

Either way, it’ll most likely cost you more than the supercar’s $440,000 sticker price. But, if you have the money for it, what’s stopping you?

It’s no secret that Lambo has huge plans for its 50th anniversary and that the Aventador is due to lose its top in the U.S. market… officially. The Italian automaker decided why not just kick them both off at the same time, which it did today in Miami and we were there to witness it all.

The day kicked off at noon today in Miami, and began with a press conference across from the Breakwater Hotel and a 40-car parade down Collins Avenue. During the press conference, Lambo unveiled the much-anticipated Aventador LP700-4 Roadster to us media folk and it was definitely worth the wait. Have a look at our collection of images and you can see just how sexy the car really is.

On top of the official unveiling of the drop-top supercar, Lambo also satisfied our appetite for some speed. It accomplished this feat by closing off a runway at the Miami International Airport – the first time MIA has ever close a runway for an automotive event – to allow 12 Aventadors to run wild down the long straight stretch, peaking out at over 180 mph.

What a phenomenal showing by Lambo.

Underground Racing started 2013 big, and we mean really big, as they have prepared a monstrosity of a program for the Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Performante, which is owned by a gentleman named Joe from Texas. In its standard version, the LP570-4 Performante is powered by a 5.2-liter V-10 engine that produces a total of 570 horsepower. That wasn’t enough for Joe, as opted for a Stage 3 upgrade that almost doubled the supercar’s output.

Stage 3 upgrade includes two Precision Turbochargers, Motec boost by gear, an optional quick-shift upgrade and much more. Underground Racing announced that after installing the Stage 3 upgrades, the LP570-4 supercar will deliver an estimated total of 1,000 horsepower at the wheels on pump gas and 1,250 horsepower at the wheels on race fuel. This car still has to be tested on dyno, so stay tuned to learn the official output of this impressive Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Performante.

Of course, the price for such an amazing update is pretty hefty at $94,000, which is about half the price of the standard car. As you know, performance costs!

As promised, today is the day that Lamborghini has dropped the official details on the new Aventador LP700-4 Roadster. The model has been described as "the most exciting series production Lamborghini ever built and the new benchmark in the world of open-top luxury super sports cars."

To no surprise, the new Roadster version features a design language similar to the coupe version, except for the changes any open-top model requires. For example, the rear pillar has been redesigned to offer total support for the removable roof and a new engine hood that features a central "spinal column" with two pairs of hexagonal windows connected at the sides.

The new Aventador Roadster is being offered with a two-piece roof made entirely from carbon fiber that can be stored in the front luggage compartment.

Under the hood you will find the same 6.5 liter aspirated V12 that delivers a total of 700 horsepower and mated to an ISR 7-speed gearbox. The Roadster version will sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 3 seconds and can hit a top speed of 217 mph.

In Europe the model can be already ordered and the price will start from 300,000 euro or about $380,000 at the current exchange rates.

UPDATE 11/15/2012: Lamborghini has finally announced the U.S. prices for its new Aventador Roadster, and we have to admit it’s a little bit more than we were expecting: $445,300, including the $3,700 gas-guzzler tax.

When Lamborghini unveiled the new Aventador Roadster, it described the car’s two-piece roof as very easy to install. In fact, the official announcement says that each of the two 13-pound carbon-fiber pieces can be attached and removed in just a "matter of seconds."

The question that begs to be answered is “in a matter of seconds for whom: a Lamborghini engineer or a regular customer?” We think the above video will give you an idea of what to really expect.

During the car’s official presentation, Lamborghini wanted to show its customers how to install this wonder-roof. The problem is that it took a Lamborghini rep about two minutes to install it! Granted, he was talking while working, but he has been trained to install the roof. Now, imagine someone with absolutely no training installing this roof and you can see how it could take about two minutes. That’s a real problem if you happen to live in a place where torrential and sudden rainfall is the norm, like London or South Florida.

Nevertheless, we need to admire the absolute beauty in this masterpiece of a vehicle. We’re also pretty sure that it’ll take a few dozen practice installations before a new owner can install the roof "in a matter of seconds." One thing is for sure, the Aventador’s roof is easier to install than the soft top on the Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 Roadster. That process seems to require two people, a sledgehammer, hope, prayers, and a few choice four-letter words to accomplish.

Miami residents definitely have something to smile about: the new Lamborghini Aventador Roadster will be making its US debut on November 12th at the local Lamborghini Miami dealer. Lamborghini will then start a presentation tour of the car, with the next stop being Los Angeles.

European customers will benefit from multiple showcases in the coming weeks at the company’s factory, but those are just for small groups - as usual.

The first details offered by Lamborghini on the upcoming Aventador Roadster: "The new Aventador LP 700-4 Roadster is crafted from an ultra-rigid carbon fiber monocoque for strength with light weight. Its shatteringly powerful 6.5 liter V12 engine drives through all four wheels. Yet it also offers the thrill of open-top motoring, with the roof down, all the sensations of a high performance sports car are amplified - including the soulful sound of that 691 HP engine. Our most powerful Roadster ever."

Lamborghini unveiled the new Gallardo LP560-4 back at the 2012 Paris Auto Show in September, but only displayed the model in coupe form. We expected the Spyder version to come about sometime during a future auto show, but the the images of the drop top variant have unceremoniously surfaced online. This is an interesting move from Lamborghini considering that no information has been unveiled in the past few weeks which would make any of us think this was coming.

The only major difference we can see between the Spyder and the Coupe is the missing roof. There is also a "New Gallardo" logo in the front bumper to distinguish this new version of the Gallardo.

Under the hood, Lamborghini will keep the usual 5.2-liter V-10 DOHC engine that delivers a total of 552 HP at 8,000 rpm and 398 lb-ft of torque at 6,500 rpm. Because of the addition of the heavier roof, the performance numbers will be slightly lower than in the coupe version, which does the 0 to 60 mph sprint time of 3.7 seconds and has a top speed of 201 mph.

Lamborghini’s “entry-level car,” if you want to call the $187,000 Gallardo “entry level,” is getting on in age and we already know that a successor is due out in 2014. We also know that the Gallardo came in a dizzying amount of formats, trim levels, body styles, and special editions, which tended to confuse the casual Lamborghini buyer and was somewhat intimidating.

In an interview with Car and Driver, Lamborghini America COO, Michael Lock, let us know that the Gallardo’s successor, which may be named the Huracán, will be a much simpler lineup to navigate. It’s not that Lambo will eliminate all of the options, but rather streamline them into precise packaging. The basic configurations — coupe, convertible, all-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive, and lightweight — will be available, but you will not be able to walk into a dealership and pick a Lamborghini that meets every spec (i.e. convertible, all-wheel drive, and lightweight).

That will be a relief to most buyers, as is the much needed elimination of the aging Gallardo. We will continue keeping an eye out for news on the upcoming Gallardo replacement and let you know as soon as we hear something. We expect to start seeing a lot more details rolling down the pipe by the end of this year and we should see an actual production concept sometime in early-2013.

Also addressed in the meetup was the manual transmission option making a return in the Gallardo’s replacement. It was confirmed by Lambo’s COO that the manual option will not return in this model, or ever again to the Lamborghini lineup.

Although the two vehicles in this video are different - one’s a coupe while the other is a roadster - the Lamborghini Aventador and the Mercedes SLS AMG Roadster can still be considered two of the most amazing supercars currently on the market. Hennessey Performance obviously feels this statement is accurate since they decided to pit the two cars against each other on a spicy 1/4 mile dragstrip race.

You’ll have to watch the video to see who wins the race, but we’ll give you some details to help you out. The Aventador is powered by a 6.5-liter V12 engine that delivers a total of 700 HP and sprints the car from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.9 seconds. The SLS AMG Roadster, on the other hand, is powered by a 6.3-liter V8 engine with 563 HP and can go from 0 to 60 mph in just 4 seconds.

While most of us were hoping that Lamborghini would offer the roadster version of their latest Aventador supercar in March at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, the company decided against it and extended the anticipation even longer. Now, Italian magazine Quattroruote, has offered a few more details on the upcoming Aventador LP700-4 Spyder.

According to the magazine, the new Aventador Spyder will feature a removable, solid roof and not a soft-top roof like the Murcielago Roadster. The retractable hard top should detach into two sections, separated in a transverse direction. It will be made ​​of carbon fiber just like most of the other body components. This material will keep the weight of the car down and make the roof easier to maneuver. The magazine also reports that the Spyder version will feature an increased number of carbon fiber applications.

Expect to see the launch of the new Lamborghini Aventador Spyder in the coming months.

After two images were released two days ahead of the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, Lamborghini has officially debuted the Aventador J, but not in concept form as previously suggested. The J is a fully functional sports car ready for road use. The bad news is that this will just be a one-off model that will ride off into the sunset with its new owner at the end of the Geneva Auto Show. "There is only one of them, no prototypes and no others for the Lamborghini Museum. The buyer can look forward to a truly unique, street-legal work of art."

The Aventador J is not the first one-off model offered by Lamborghini. This tradition began back in the 1970s with the unveiling of the one-off Jota - a Lamborghini Miura with improved performance and virtually redesigned in every detail. The car takes its "J" letter from the sporting rules of the FIA world motorsport organization: "Appendix J" defines the technical specification of race cars in the various classes.

The Aventador J’s exterior and interior meld into each other in an attempt to obtain a two-seat sport-bike effect. Elements like the climate control and nav systems have been removed in order to make the car faster. High quality materials also help in the speed department. Carbon fiber has been used for the car’s bumpers, the front air scoop, the winglets, and for that huge rear diffuser. Inside, the sports car boasts of seats covered in a new carbon fiber fabric called "Carbonskin."

Just like the standard Aventador, the one-off J version will be powered by a 6.5-liter V12 engine that is capable of delivering a total of 700 HP. Top speed goes up to an impressive 186 mph - a little less than the standard Aventador, but the J has to take into account it’s missing roof.

UPDATE 03/15/2012: There’s no doubt that the Aventador J had an impressive presence at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, but how long did it took to create such a masterpiece? A year, half a year, a month, a few months? In an interview with Top Gear, designer Filippo Perini admitted that the Lamborghini team only needed six weeks: "It was the 14th of January that Mr Winkelmann asked us to do something for Geneva," says Perini. "A blank sheet. Do what you want. I drew up this car in a weekend..." Absolutely amazing!

UPDATE 04/22/12: For a car that was built for one customer, Lamborghini really spared no expense in the Aventador J. So much so that they even made a promo film for it. Check it out by clicking on the photo above.

The Spyder version of the new Lamborghini Aventador supercar will be unveiled next month at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, but thanks to our spy photographers, we have some fresh spy shots to give us a head-start on the unveiling. The drop-top super car has been caught during some of its extensive winter testing somewhere in Northern Sweden. In these photos, we can see what the camouflage was being used to conceal: the roof can be lifted off. It also looks like the roof may be made of carbon fiber instead of the soft top fabric found on the Murcielago Roadster.

Everything else about the Aventador Spyder - from the design language to the performance - will be identical to its Coupe sibling. This would leave potential buyers with the option of purchasing a super car with a 700 HP V12 engine that can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.9 seconds and can hit a top speed of 217 mph, all while enjoying the roadster style amenities.
