The McLaren Artura PHEV Lays the Foundation for an Electrified Future
The McLaren Artura is here, and with it comes a lot of firsts for McLaren. It’s the first plug-in hybrid McLaren, even though it counts as McLaren’s third hybrid model behind the P1 and the Speedtail. It’s also the first McLaren to use the freshly developed 3.0-liter twin-turbo V-6 engine, put in place of the bigger and heavier 3.8-liter V-8 unit that McLaren has used for its Sports Series models in recent years.
The Artura is also the first McLaren hybrid supercar that’s built on the automaker’s new MCLA platform. It’s the same architecture the British automaker developed to accommodate electrified powertrains. The Artura’s arrival sets the stage for McLaren’s electrified future that now looks a lot more compelling.
Drag Race Battle - Ferrari 812 Superfast Versus Tesla Model X P100D
On paper, an SUV should have no business competing against a supercar in a drag race. But the cars in question, a Ferrari 812 Superfast and a Tesla Model X P100D, aren’t exactly too far apart in the performance category. One produces 588 horsepower and 910 pound-feet of torque, while the other has 790 horsepower and 530 pound-feet of torque on tap. Line them side-by-side on a drag strip and the question of who wins isn’t as ridiculous as it sounds. In the end, such a race took place at the Drag Times home track of Palm Beach International Raceway. As for which car won? Watch the video and find out.

With this, now the complete Range Rover lineup is electrified. The company hasn’t been at the forefront of electrification, but it doesn’t lag either. So, will the new Velar’s efficient, plug-in model become the best-selling model in the lineup?
Did We Just Catch a McLaren GT Hybrid in the Wild?
The McLaren GT was introduced in 2019, and we know for sure that the mule we see here is, in fact, a McLaren GT. Be that as it may, it was caught in a residential neighborhood in France by a friend of Topspeed, and it certainly raises a few questions. First, why is there a camouflaged McLaren GT cruising around France? Second, why was it parked outside a residential area? Third, why do the wheels have “Dyn Wheel” written all over them? Well, we think that McLaren might be testing its new V-6 hybrid drivetrain.

Ford Announces $500 Million Investment Into Rivian to Use EV Skateboard Platform
General Motors was already in talks with Rivian, but it seems that agreement has fallen through and another American automotive giant, Ford, has secured a deal with the EV maker for use of its skateboard platform and the joint-development of a future Blue Oval EV. Ford will sink $500 million into Rivian as part of a much bigger investment in EVs, estimated at $11 billion that includes models like the all-electric Mustang-like crossover or the all-electric F-150 pickup.
2019 Bentley Bentayga Hybrid
The 2019 Bentley Bentayga Hybrid is the electrified version of the company’s first SUV. It’s also Bentley’s first hybrid ever, as well as the world’s first luxury SUV with an electric motor. The Bentayga Hybrid joins the original 2017 Bentayga with the W-12 engine that Bentley unveiled in 2015, as well as the V-8 and diesel variants that the British firm launched since 2017.
The Bentayga Hybrid is virtually identical to the regular SUV inside and out. The exterior features an additional "fuel" cap for the plug-in socket, while the interior includes new tech and a revised infotainment system for hybrid duty. Things are notably different under the skin though, where the familiar W-12 and V-8 engines were replaced with a V-6 and an electric motor. The layout is similar to that in the Porsche Panamera E-Hybrid. Let’s find out more about this electrified SUV in the review below.

Tesla Goes Ice Fishing, Burns Up, Doesn’t Melt Ice
Currently, there’s the shell of Tesla Model X that burned to a crisp sitting on a frozen lake in Vermont. That’s a sentence I never imagined I’d write. The situation certainly is odd. It raises a lot of questions. What sparked the fire? Why didn’t it melt through the ice? What was the car doing on the lake in the first place?

More than 50 years after going out of business, Hispano Suiza is poised to make a comeback in the auto industry with a new electric car that’s scheduled to debut at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. Not much is known about the model, at least except for shadowy teaser that showcases retro-styled arches that harken back to some of the brand’s most famous works in the early part of the previous century. More details about the new Hispano Suiza electric supercar should come to light in the days and weeks leading up to the Geneva Motor Show this coming March.
Tesla Launches "Track Mode," Turns Model 3 Into Drift Machine
One of the coolest advantages of electric powertrains over internal combustion engines is that power and torque are available instantly. And this is one of the reasons why the Tesla Model S is the quickest production car with a 0-to-60 benchmark of only 2.5 seconds. Now, Tesla wants to put the Model 3’s instant torque to good use on the race track through a new driving mode. It’s called Track Mode and turns the compact sedan into a drift machine.
Tesla Must Pony Up $5 Million In Reimbursements Over Autopilot 2.0 Delays
Tesla’s back in the news and, lo and behold, it’s again because they have to pay a few million dollars back. This time, the money will go to aggravated customers who bought the $5,000-worth Autopilot 2.0 suite only to find out that they have to wait months before it actually becomes available.
As part of the $5,400,000 settlement, which will see Tesla pay back customers anywhere between $25 and $280 depending on when they purchased the car. Basically, Tesla announced they will release the Autopilot 2.0 group of functions in December of 2016 in two separate packages: the ’Enhanced Autopilot’ package which was priced at $5,000 and the ’Fully Self-Driving’ package which cost $2,000 less. Sadly for customers, Tesla couldn’t keep up to its side of the bargain so lawsuits were filed aplenty.
Tesla Model S Driver Rams Into A Nissan SUV Despite Autopilot’s Warning
This is the latest Autopilot crash; but it wasn’t the system’s fault. A couple, who was too busy engrossed in something else other than focusing on the road, rear-ended a Nissan SUV despite the system warning and chiming its brains out. How can one trust a machine blindly?
Jeep Renegade to Get a Plug-in Version by 2020
FCA is one of the slowest groups to move towards electrification. Currently, it has got just 3 cars under its umbrella which are anywhere close to electrification. Nevertheless, FCA announced the production of a Jeep Renegade Plug-in hybrid. It will be built alongside the regular Renegade and its Fiat 500X platform mate in FCA’s factory in Melfi, Italy. Jeep will start building pre-production units in 2019, and launch it in the market in early 2020.
