There is no dearth of electric cars in the market now. We aren’t just talking about the urban commuters, but also fast electric cars. There are many new automakers that start their electric car journey with fast cars or electric supercars. Companies like Estrema, Aspark, and even Tesla, for that matter, came up with fast electric sports cars or electric supercars. While some have faded into oblivion after showing us promising concepts, some have weathered the storm and are either into production or will enter production.

Here’s a list of the eight fastest electric cars in the world today that are in the production stage or about to enter production. Some of these fast cars are from mainstream automakers, some from established EVmakers, and some from new start-ups.

We love celebrating car birthdays and this year is the Lamborghini Jalpa’s 40th anniversary. The car that was once considered the entry-level Lamborghini has now become 40 years old, having been produced between 1981 and 1988. With only 410 units produced, it certainly is rare and prices have started to reflect that. Here’s a brief overview of the 1980s “Baby Lambo”.

Very few cars have the enigmatic presence of a Porsche Carrera GT. The mid-engine supercar debuted in 2003 and in its four-year production cycle only 1,270 were made. With that said, the YouTube channel AutoTopNL is giving us a short, but epic video of the Porsche Carrera GT hitting over 186 mph (300 km/h).

The EV revolution has given rise to countless new automotive brands the world over, be it Tesla, Rivian or Lucid in the United States, Rimac in Europe, or Nio in China, the list really is a long one. Vazirani Automotive, based in India, also wants a slice of that pie.

They showed off the stunning Shul electric hypercar at the Goodwood Festival of Speed back in 2018. The automaker is now following up with a new all-electric concept car, dubbed the Ekonk, which apparently has the ability to breathe. When you think of iconic, classic American cars, Cadillac Coupe DeVille, Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Corvette, and Dodge Challenger are, often, some of the first to come to mind. And while each of them has had their fair share of special editions, we can’t help but wonder what classic American cars can be like, with a European twist. Whether it’s their design or an unusual engineering solution, these are the most obscure American classic cars ever to exist.

The idea of a new car that looks like a classic is not a new one, as many carmakers and design studios have been romanticizing it for a long time. However, it became most obvious around the early 2000s, with cars like the muscle car trio – the Mustang, Camaro, Challenger, and cars like the Mini Cooper and Fiat 500, only to name a few. That said, while many of these concepts went into production, others did not. Such is the case with the 2002 Mazda Cosmo 21, which took the Miata NB and turned it into a faithful representation of the first Mazda to use a Wankel (rotary) engine.

Tesla had another moment of internet glory and hype as the Interwebs were filled with interior renders of the revised Model S and Model X. Specifically, it was the yoke-style steering wheel that caught everyone’s attention, even though it might not make it into production.

However, not everything is milk and sugar for the EV maker and its fan/customer base as the Roadster has been hit with a delay.

The Koenigsegg Jesko is the company’s latest supercar, third megacar, and spiritual successor to the iconic Agera. Unveiled at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, the Jesko boasts a power-to-weight ratio greater than 1:1, which means its engine generates more horsepower than the car’s total curb weight in kilograms. Koenigsegg offered similar versions of the One:1 and Agera, but the Jesko takes things one step further with an impressive downforce rating of 2,205 pounds.

Named after Jesko von Koenigsegg, the father of company founder and CEO, Christian von Koenigsegg, the Jesko marks the debut of the firm’s latest carbon-fiber chassis and nine-speed multi-clutch transmission. It’s also supposed to hit at least 300 mph according to Koenigsegg, so it could improve the Agera RS’ 277-mph world record really soon. Let’s find out more about that in the review below.

The Lamborghini Centenario shook the world at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, when it was unveiled to celebrate Ferruccio Lamborghini’s 100th birthday. Aside the waves it sent through every car-centric medium at the time, it’s even more striking today, four years later, as it continues to look like an alien of a car.

The Maserati 3500 GT is, arguably, Maserati’s first stab at building a mass-market grand tourer that could challenge both Ferrari as well as its British peers. Many coachbuilders submitted designs to Maserati before the 3500 GT was put into series production and Pietro Frua came forth with proposals for both a fixed-head coupe as well as a convertible.

This very car was his idea of a topless 3500 GT and it is unique because, as it happened, Maserati chose Vignale’s design instead. The car is back on the auction block after previously being among the headliners at Monterey in 2017.
