With the pandemic still looming over our heads, 2021 was a pretty action-packed year for the auto industry. Sure, you had challenges, with automakers having to contend with issues like chip shortages, causing delays to consumers. But regardless, the show had to go on and we got some pretty cool cars making their debut, predominantly towards the latter half of 2021.

Let’s get one thing out of the way, 2021 really was also the year, when the market as a whole began to embrace EV’s and you could see several automakers both the legacy as well as EV startups bring several new models to market. Having said that, we did see some pretty cool ICE cars, also make their debut. Now there were several cars that made headlines this year, it was very difficult to pick out the best ones, but the cars on this list definitely stood out. Here’s our list of some of the most highly anticipated and important cars that were unveiled in 2021.

Automakers are coming in with some big reveals for this year’s SEMA show considering that the 2020 event was canceled. General Motors is no exception as the Detroit giant is in Vegas at this year’s show, with not one or two, but eight concepts. Leading the pack will be its new Chevy Beast concept.

The 2022 Toyota Tundra came out with all guns blazing. It doesn’t offer a plethora of engine options like its American rivals, but it still has a strong and loyal fan base who swear by its reliability. No wonder the Tundra and the Tacoma have a high demand even in the pre-worshipped market. While the 2022 model’s highlight was the new hybrid engine, there’s one other thing that deserves attention – its composite bed. It is said to be more abuse-friendly, but is that true?

Chevy introduced the Silverado ZR2 recently as its flagship off-road truck. Now, the company is putting money where its mouth is by having it compete in the upcoming ‘Best In The Desert King Shocks Laughlin Desert Classic’ race. It might be the truck’s official racing debut, but the prototypes have been taking part in such competitions since 2019. Nevertheless, it’ll be interesting to see how the Silverado ZR2 performs at the event.

The Chevy Silverado has been in second place for a long time in terms of the truck market. However, they may be about to get at least somewhat of a jump in sales due to their new redesign and revival of the ZR2 name!

We talk about how the upcoming electric pickup trucks are fast and heavy on performance. Trucks like the Tesla Cybertruck, the Rivian R1T, the GMC Hummer EV, etc. are all quicker than some of the famous supercars of this era. Although internal combustion-engined trucks aren’t known to be ‘fast’, there are a handful of them that could are quite agile. GM has been quite active in the pickup truck space since the beginning. It has even bifurcated its trucks between two brands – Chevrolet and GMC – and combined, both of them rake up pretty good numbers. Chevy brings in more sales as opposed to GMC and has managed to keep up with Ford and Ram in terms of models and trim levels on each of them. It even announced an electric Silverado that could arrive in a couple of years. However, the automaker has lagged in the case of a performance off-road truck. There are Silverado trims with off-roading prowess, but there’s no standalone model like the Ford F-150 Raptor and the Ram 1500 TRX.

There were rumors of Chevy working on one such product, but there’s still no concrete detail. It was rumored to be called the ZRX, but those were mere speculations. Chevy had trademarked the ‘ZRX’ moniker sometime back, but there seems to be no development on that front thus far. Is the automaker missing out on something big by not offering a performance off-road truck to the market? We sure think so.

Chevy is taking baby steps towards competing with the Ram 1500 and the Ford F-150 in the off-roading, performance truck department. Out of the Big Three, Chevy is the only one not to offer a full-fledged off-road model for the Silverado. Ford has the F-150 Raptor (and Raptor R V-8 in the works), whereas Ram has the 1500 TRX. While Chevy hasn’t come up with a standalone off-roading model yet, it has teased a new trim, something similar to what Ford does with the Tremor and Ram does with the 1500 Rebel. Chevy has plans to offer the Silverado in the ZR2 outfit that will give you the freedom to take your bowtie truck off the roads without much hesitation. Well, better late than never!

SVE has been associated with GM for a very long time. In over three decades, the aftermarket company has tuned over 65,000 vehicles. SVE made headlines when it revived the Syclone badge for Canyon-based 2019 and 2021 models.

The company even builds Silverado-based Yenko S/C editions. The company released an 800-horsepower version of the truck last year. Now, it has come up with a 710-horsepower iteration of this Yenko S/C called the California Edition. It will be available across the Silverado trim line and will be limited to just 50 examples.

This is a 1959 Chevrolet Apache work truck that was part of the ‘Task Force’ series launched by the bowtie back in the 50s. The restomod includes putting the Apache on a new chassis, tossing in a V-8 engine, and fitting a four-wheel-drive system to make it a practical, daily driver work truck, as opposed to a pavement pickup like the yesteryear GMC Syclone.

With the latest and greatest in gas turbine engine technology, lateral pop-out headlights, and the weirdness of twin-dial steering, the Turbo Titan III was Chevrolet’s attempt at creating the truck of the future. But with Ford’s own Big Red promotional gas turbine truck already roaming the growing Interstate Highway system, what did Chevy bring new to the table of experimental big rigs?

It was pretty hard to digest that one of the top truck manufacturers in the U.S., Chevrolet, was mum about electric trucks. At a time where every EV manufacturer was coming up with an offering to the open-bed segment, Chevy was out of the limelight for a very long time. Ford, on the other hand, has been active for years now, right from challenging Tesla to making official announcements.

But finally, the Bowtie has stepped up and officially announced its first-ever electric pickup truck in the form of the Silverado EV. And the icing on the cake? A range of 400 miles!

Performance trucks have been there for a very long time, but they are finally becoming mainstream now. While automakers are rolling out high-performance pickup trucks, aftermarket companies have also upped the ante to make them better than factory products. The new Callaway Silverado Signature Edition is the latest example. This big, burly truck with a V-8 engine has enough power and mechanical tech to beat even the Chevy Camaro in a straight-line race. While there isn’t much you can do in that aspect apart from offering different types of Tonneau covers, or illumination, or different material for the base. Ram and GMC changed the game when they launch tailgates that can be used more efficiently. These tailgates became the talk of the town, but surprisingly, the other players in the market, Ford and Chevrolet, didn’t make a move. Although we’re yet to see the former do something about it, Chevrolet has made its move.

The automaker has announced a “MultiFlex” tailgate that will be available for the 2021 Silverado. There isn’t a lot known yet, but Chevy will drop more details about it on September 21.

Full-size performance off-road trucks are picking up heat lately and it has piqued the interest of truck manufacturers and aftermarket companies alike. There was just one significant production-truck – the Ford F-150 Raptor – in this niche until recently, but Ram joined the fray with the 2021 Ram 1500 TRX.
