Pickup trucks made a name for themselves through workhorse character and hauling ability but who says they can’t boost one’s ego from time to time?

Certainly not Shelby, who jammed 770 horsepower inside the F-150 Super Snake which we believe is, actually, the only genuine competitor for the incoming Hellcat-powered Ram TRX.

In the market for an American performance coupé and in a pickle when it comes to picking your poison? Should it be a sports car? Should it be a muscle car? Tough choice, right?

Well, lucky for you, this guy took both the 2020 Chevy C8 Corvette and the 2020 Shelby Mustang GT500 on a circuit to tell you how each of them behaves when pushed hard on a winding course.

This is a duel between the conspicuous and the subtle. The raw and the precise. The Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 and the Porsche 911. They’re both rear-wheel-driven automotive icons and they serve the same purpose, but with a totally different set of tools in their bags.

The new Porsche (992) 911 has got a 3.0-liter, twin-turbo flat-six powerplant while the Shelby GT350 packs a V-8. So, how do they fare against each other in a hot lap track battle? The answer comes courtesy of MotorTrend.

It was only recently that we witnessed the 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 proving its mettle when facing the likes of Ferrari 812 Superfast, Dodge Challenger Hellcat, and Porsche 911 GT3 RS. As it turns out, the GT500 can not only keep up with the Porsche on the track but also avoid making a fool of itself in a straight-line race against the Superfast, obliterating the Hellcat in the process.

And while the amount of performance baked into the stock Shelby GT500 is downright impressive, a smartly-tuned one is capable of even more greatness, such as dispatching the quarter mile in less than ten seconds.

The 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500 is a speed demon in itself but here comes the Shelby GT500 Dragon Snake, a vehicle that Shelby says it designed and developed for blistering performance on the drag strip. The GT500 Dragon Snake packs north of 800 horsepower, is said to be lighter than the regular GT500, and it also puts the power down more efficiently thanks to a retuned transmission and other bits and bobs.

We know the 2020 Shelby GT500 is theoretically capable of blazing from naught to 60 miles per hour in 3.3 seconds and run the quarter mile in 10.7 seconds. Car and Driver, however, estimates that under normal conditions, on regular pavement (i.e. in the absence of a drag race-prepped surface), the Shelby GT500 will need 3.5 seconds to hit 60 miles per hour and about 11 seconds to clear the quarter mile. So, we must ask: can the new 2020 GT500 Dragon Snake accelerate to 60 miles per hour in less than three seconds and match the Demon’s 2.3-second 0-60 sprint? Let’s find out.

The Shelby Mustang Super Snake has been updated for 2018 and 2019 with extra power, new looks, and a desire to eat anything that comes near it – all for a price of $113,445.

If you’re in the market for a Mustang with excessive power and an excessive price tag, then look no further than the update Shelby Super Snake. For that $113,445 price tag, you get a base Mustang GT with a whole host of add-ons that bring power output up to 710 horsepower in standard form. Standard performance equipment includes Ford Performance 710-horsepower supercharger, Shelby’s extreme cooling package, performance half shafts, short throw shifter, one-piece driveshaft (manual transmission only,) Ford performance exhaust, 20-inch wheels, and a Shelby Brembo brake system with break and bearing cooling.

That’s not the best of the Super Snake, though. If you really want something more, you can opt for the 800+ horsepower supercharger. It’s a Whipple unit and comes pre-polished. According to Shelby, the 800+ horsepower upgrade can deliver a 60-mph sprint in 3.5 seconds. It might be more powerful and a bit faster, but we’d rather get our hands on one of those 10 1967 Shelby GT500 Super Snake continuation cars instead. We are about to witness the birth of a “brand-new” Mustang, as Ford will reveal the new "Pony car" to world on December 5, 2013. A new era in the glorious history the Mustang will begin with the launch of the sixth-generation Mustang.

One name that can never be forgotten and has ever since been attached with all things Mustang is Shelby. We bet Carol Shelby would’ve been glad to add his personal touches on the new model. Having said that, Shelby American has just announced a range of performance upgrades for the 2014 Ford Mustang, giving the fifth-generation Mustang the sendoff that it deserves.

The latest set of upgrade will allow customers to experience first hand, the expertise of the legendary Carroll Shelby in performance tuning a muscle car that he dedicated his life’s work for.

When Shelby announced that they were bringing two models to the 2013 Detroit Auto Show, a lot of us already penciled in that one of those models would be a custom-tuned Ford Mustang. The other one, however, was still subject to speculation with the front runner being some sort of derivative for Ford’s mighty sports hatch, the Focus ST.

True enough, those who thought it was the Focus ST were proven right when Shelby unveiled the Shelby Focus ST, a "budget-minded" performance vehicle for those who can’t afford the bigger and meaner Shelby Mustang.

Limited to only 500 units, the Shelby Focus ST is, as its name suggests, a souped-up Ford Focus ST that comes with a plethora of aesthetic and performance upgrades that’ll turn your already awesome sports hatch into one that has the stamp of approval from Shelby themselves.

The North American International Auto Show (aka the Detroit Auto Show) is slowly creeping up and we are learning more each day about what is going to be at the show. We pretty much already know what the much-anticipated C7 Corvette will look like, thanks to the leaky pipes over at GM and our crack rendering team, and now Shelby has announced that it will be in on the fun.

Shelby has announced that two new vehicles will show up at the NAIAS and the first one will be a wide-body version of the 2013 Super Snake. That’s a pretty cool announcement in itself, but Shelby is keeping the second one under pretty tight wraps for now. The only information that it released about the second model is simply a quote from the late Carroll Shelby: “I think you’re going to see the industry going completely to small engines with turbochargers. That’s the only way you can get the mileage that the government is going to be demanding.”

From that quote, we can make out that the heavily guarded model will be a smaller-displacement, high-performance vehicle that will gain extra power from a turbocharger. So, this leaves us with a pair of potential scenarios. The cooler of the two would be a Mustang bearing a high-output four-cylinder or an EcoBoost V-6, which could be a preview of what to expect from the future Mustang SVO. The less awesome scenario would be a heavily tuned Focus or Fiesta ST.

We’re crossing our fingers that this will be a four-cylinder-equipped `Stang with some serious ponies, but we really don’t see any writing on the wall about which scenario will come true.

We’ll keep an eye on this situation and let you know as soon as we get some more info.

If the 650 HP coming out of the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 isn’t enough for those speed-lovers out there, Shelby American is ready to shut them up with their famous Super Snake package, which will transform the stout muscle car into a more powerful and agile machine.

The new Super Snake package will upgrade the GT500’s power level to an impressive 662 HP in the base version, or an incredible 850 HP if the additional supercharger is chosen. The model can be ordered in any exterior color combined with Satin Black or Gloss White stripes and new wheels in Satin Black or Bright Silver Metallic. As a first for Shelby vehicles, the new Super Snake will be offered with a choice of rear-only or front and rear "wide body" packages with an optional 13 inch rear wheel and tire package - a tribute to the legendary Carroll Shelby.

The new GT500 Super Snake package is priced at $28,995 for the 662 HP version and $39,995 for the 850 HP model, not including the base car. It will be limited to only 500 units, both coupe and convertible. The official debut will be made at the upcoming Barrett-Jackson collector car auction in Las Vegas on September 27th–29th.

After we lost racing and general automotive legend, Carroll Shelby on May 10th, a squabble ensued over his remains. His estranged wife, Cleo, claimed that she had the rights to his remains and the documentation that his children had, which requested that he be cremated and his ashes split between his children and his burial plot in Texas, was forged.

According to reports, Shelby had filed for an annulment of the marriage, citing that his wife had lied about her background and even her name, just before he died. Unfortunately, the annulment was not awarded posthumously, so it appeared as if the only other way to settle the dispute was in court.

Fortunately, the two sides managed to keep the case out of court by coming to an agreement on Monday and Mr. Shelby’s body will be laid to rest in the way that he requested, except for one minor compromise. The minor compromise is the fact that his estranged wife gets part of his ashes.

We’re glad to hear that the issue is settled, though we would have preferred to see his wife completely cut out of it. The most important thing, however, is that the issue is done and this legend can now be laid to rest peacefully and his children can hold their heads high that their father was laid to rest in the way he requested, though his son Michael says that they are still not happy with the results.

The late-1960s Shelby G.T.500 was one of the most desirable cars available in its era and has now become one of the rarest mustangs. The rarest G.T.500 of them all is a 1967 convertible model, due to the fact that there was only one example ever made. This example went straight to Carroll Shelby himself and no other examples ever existed.

Well, the folks over at Classic Recreations, who are known for their classic Ford Mustang projects, are now making it possible for you to own a drop top 1967 G.T.500 at a fraction of the price that Shelby’s model would fetch.

Granted, this model is no true G.T.500, but it’ll certainly turn heads, especially once you lay into it and let its engine do the talking. There are two models of this G.T.500 available, the tamer 545 model and the wild 900S model.

So what does this recreation of the single-most rare Shelby Mustang G.T.500 have to offer you, and is it a fair bargain?

The Shelby GT500 is far and away the most powerful production Mustang, and pony car for that matter, ever built. So how in the world do you reign in those 662 ponies and 631 pounds of twisting force as a rookie driver? Well, you add in traction control for one and second, you install a launch control system that allows even the novice driver to launch this `Stang like a pro.

To prove its worth, Ford has even released a video touting its launch control, which uses a combination of the ABS and traction control, mixed in with its other electronic controls to give its driver the perfect launch. The video, which you can see above, explains that you simply set the desired launch RPM, mash the gas pedal, and release the clutch, then the system maximizes the torque load and tire grip, and “Wheeeeeeeeeeee” you’re off with a cloud of beautiful, yet expensive, white smoke in your wake.

What’s simply awesome about this video is the fact that the late, great Carroll Shelby is a main feature in it, which means that this video was likely filmed nearly a year ago. He still shows his dislike for Corvettes at the 1:17 mark when he says “You know, that’s important to people that want to leave a Corvette in the dust at a stop sign.” You can’t help but love the fact that Ford truly flowed deep within Shelby’s veins.

For those that don’t like the predictability of launch control, the video also lets you know that you can turn it off. Why someone wouldn’t want to rip, dig, and scoot perfectly off of the line every time is beyond us, but some people prefer controlling it themselves.

Even if you don’t give a rat’s hindquarters about traction control, the hoonage and white smoke in this video is a gorgeous thing. Plus there are few engines in the world that sound as sexy as a well-tuned Ford V-8. Have a look and listen, you won’t regret it.

To say we absolutely love every Shelby Cobra to death is an understatement. This also breeds a little hatred in our hearts for those that take a hacksaw to them and start modifying stuff. However, here are some modifications to Shelby Cobras that we can stomach and some that we completely fall in love with at first sight. Magnis Jinstrand’s modified Shelby Cobra just happens to fall squarely in the latter classification…

This beautiful example of automotive genius boasts a disgustingly sexy 6.0-liter Mercedes V-12 with an equally disgusting loud-mouthed supercharger strapped to its intake. There’s no information on the power pushed out by this mean machine, but judging by the above video, we would have to estimate it to be in the 700-horsepower range.

The exposed supercharger really just does it for us. Not only does it look awesome, but it is about the only whining that I can say I want to hear while driving a car. This blower obliges by providing plenty of it in audible goodness.

We are unsure what other modifications this Cobra has on it and we are also unsure if this is actually a real AC Cobra or not. Chances are that it’s a kit car sitting on a custom chassis, especially given how well it handles. Regardless of its authenticity, it is still one sexy beast. We will update you if we happen to come up with any of the vehicle’s specs. Until then, crank your speakers up and enjoy.

The name Carroll Shelby spans across three makes – Ford, Chrysler, and Dodge – and is arguably the most recognized name by any true automotive buff. Unfortunately, we lost this remarkable man just weeks ago following a fight with pneumonia, but he is far from forgotten.

This past Wednesday, Peterson Automotive Museum in Los Angeles decided that it was time to give Mr. Shelby a proper send off. Unlike many folks, a moment of silence just wouldn’t be a good fit for a man notorious for filling the streets with cars boasting awesome-sounding exhaust systems and cams that lobe so hard it feels like the earth is moving.

In lieu of the typical moment of silence, PAM chose to honor Mr. Shelby with a “Moment of Noise” at precisely 6:55 p.m. PST on May 30th. Over 1,200 cars bearing the “Shelby” name showed up at PAM to let their pistons and dual exhaust give this legend a proper send off. But it was not all about the noise, as there was a series of speakers that followed the roaring of these Shelby-designed machines in an event named “Carroll Shelby a Life Remembered,” which Jay Leno hosted.

The event was not limited to just L.A., as Shelby cars around the world fired up and paid tribute to this great man. Fortunately, the wide world web has come in handy again, as a plethora of videos of the various synchronized revving around the world have popped up online and we have them for you. There is also an awesome tribute done up by the folks at Forza Motorsport of all Mr. Shelby’s creations running side-by-side around a track.

In all, it was a spectacular showing and our hats go off to the participants and to the man that made this all possible, Mr. Carroll Shelby…

The employees over at Classic Recreations have the best job ever. All of the classic looks of some of the best looking muscle cars of all time get to keep their exquisite designs, while getting juiced up and buffed out for their grand re-entrance into society. Classic Recreations have already gifted us with their modern take on the 1967 Shelby GT500CR and now they are astounding us once again with the 1967 Shelby GT500CR Venom. The Venom takes the standard GT500CR and adds a bit of edge and even more power to create a muscle car that can literally stop our hearts.

Whereas the GT500CR carried a fuel injected, naturally aspirated, hand-built 7.0-liter engine that produces 545 horsepower, the new GT500CR is now the card-carrying member of a 427 cubic inch V8 coupled to a ProCharger F1-R centrifugal supercharger that pumps out 790 HP. Just that alone sends shivers up and down our spines, but there’s so much more.

The folks at Factory Five Racing, the premiere Shelby Cobra replica builders in the world, have just come out with their fourth generation roadster complete with a reshaped body for a more period correct look thanks to a new in house fiberglass manufacturing process that significantly reduces the costs to tool the bodywork and apply the paint as well as additional room in the footwells for a more comfortable ride for both the driver and passenger and an optional aluminum shell seat for bigger guys.

The Mk4 roadster replica also comes with an all new assembly manual for complete kits making it easier to put the cars together from scratch as well as a Koni suspension that was first offered as an option on the last generation model and are now standard with all kits, but best of all they are made to accept the all new 400 HP 5.0 Liter Coyote V8 from the new Mustang GT.
