2022 Volkswagen Taos

2022 Volkswagen Taos

A long-awaited entry of a budget compact crossover from VAG but does it live up to the hype it created?

Being the most compact VW SUV you can buy right now, we are genuinely surprised by how good the Taos is. While the Tiguan was the most compact till now, the Taos, being the smallest, is surprisingly comfy in the rear which, in our opinion, is quite rare in this segment. It is decently powerful, packs a good amount of cabin and driver assistance features while holding a cheap price tag of $22,995. So, what do you get for that price?

The Volkswagen ID.5 Arrives As A Less-Practical ID.4 Coupe

The Volkswagen ID.5 Arrives As A Less-Practical ID.4 Coupe

When the crossover-coupe craze is so strong, it’s no surprise that VW jumped on the wagon with its latest ID model.

Volkswagen continues to diversify its EV (and ID) portfolio with the new ID.5 electric crossover. Available at launch in two different trims – GTX and Standard – and with your choice of three different powertrain options, the ID.5 comes to fill the need of both families and enthusiasts alike. Does it look a lot like the ID.4? Well, that’s probably because it’s basically an ID.4 with a coupe-like roof, so there’s a lot of shared DNA here. What’s below the skin of the ID.5? More than you think.

Yes - A Volkswagen Golf Can Outgun the Ferrari 488 Pista

There is a catch here, but a stock Volkswagen Golf can outgun a stock Ferrari 488 Pista!

It sounds pretty absurd at the onset that a Volkswagen Golf can beat a Ferrari 488 Pista in a quarter-mile race. But, it actually can… on a technicality. The folks at ‘Driven Media’ pit these two very unlikely contenders in a drag race. It goes without saying that the Italian supercar will win, but is there a way the Golf can get the W? Well, it can if the Ferrari treats it as a standing drag race and the Golf as a rolling race. But, at what speed? Let’s find out.

The 2022 Taigo - Volkswagen's First SUV Coupe Arrives In Europe

The 2022 Taigo - Volkswagen’s First SUV Coupe Arrives In Europe

We are just looking at a T-Cross with a coupe-like roofline

Volkswagen has launched a new coupe SUV – the company’s very first – for the European market, jumping on the wagon started by the BMW X6 way back in 2008. This is the new TAIGO, but if it looks familiar, it’s because it’s not actually new – it’s also known as the Nivus in Brazil. The TAIGO will be built in Spain and will slot between the T-Roc and T-Cross, but it’s really little more than a T-Cross with a less headroom. Higher trim levels will come with VW’s new IQ Light LED matrix headlights and an illuminated radiator grille.

The TAIGO will only be offered with FWD and, believe it or not, will only be offered with a gasoline engine. There’s a 1.0-liter three-cylinder or a larger, 1.5-liter four-banger with output ranging from 95 to 150 horsepower. A five-speed manual will be standard on three-cylinder models while four-cylinder models will come with a six-speed. VW plans to offer an options seven-speed DCT if you’re willing to pay for it. This is no performance coupe SUV, though, so top speed will sit at 210 km/h or about 130 mph. It will be sold in 28 different European countries, but pricing wont’ be available until closer to its official launch.

Volkswagen Golf R MK8 by ABT - Making the Competition Irrelevant

Volkswagen Golf R MK8 by ABT - Making the Competition Irrelevant

ABT makes the Golf R way faster than the Civic Type R and on par with the AMG A45 S and Audi RS3

When Volkswagen revealed the Mk.8 Golf R, everyone was very impressed. The familiar 2.0-liter turbocharged four-banger was massaged to deliver 315 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque – a nice improvement of 27 horsepower and 30 pound-feet over the MK.7 Golf R. On top of this new Golf R brought the future with it thanks to some awesome high-end tech like that cool all-digital dashboard. In the end, the Golf became a formidable competitor for cars like the Honda Civic Type R, beating it out in almost every category except top speed, which it lost by 2 mph (167 mph vs. 169 when the Golf was equipped with the performance package.) But, what if this kind of performance isn’t enough? Wait, who am I kidding? This is TopSpeed, and it’s never enough. Well, I suppose it’s a good thing that ABT has our back, and even thought what I’m about to tell you is going to sound pretty awesome, it’s going to get better in the future too!

The Volkswagen Golf May Only Have One Generation Left Before Retirement

The Volkswagen Golf May Only Have One Generation Left Before Retirement

As crazy as it sounds, the Volkswagen Golf could soon find itself in retirement…. But why?

When Volkswagen introduced the new 2020 Mk.8 Golf, we got to feast eyes on the Golf GTI, GTD, and GTE, a blend of trims that pretty much covered every desire imaginable. Later we got to lay eyes on the 2021 VW Golf R and Golf GTI Clubsport. I don’t need to tell you why any of these models is special, but did you know that only the Golf GTI and Golf R are sold here in the United States? That’s right! Outside of these two models, the rest of the Golf lineup is a forbidden fruit. It might seem a little early to think about the next-gen Golf considering the 8th generation is still practically brand new, but will there be another generation? And, what happens after that? Well, with the way the automotive industry is changing, that’s a very good question.

2022 Volkswagen ID.4 GTX

2022 Volkswagen ID.4 GTX

A sportier take on the standard ID.4, the GTX comes with a dual-motor-setup, all-wheel-drive system, and improved power outputs and performance specs

Volkswagen has decided to step on the gas (pun unintended) and launch a new range of performance EVs with the ‘GTX’ badge. The automaker has introduced its first car under this series based on the ID.4 called the ID.4 GTX. The EV comes with significant performance upgrades over the standard model and also comes with some aesthetic changes. An additional motor, enhanced power outputs, and new headlight detailing are some of the differences here. The performance, however, comes at the cost of the range since Volkswagen has made use of the same battery pack as the standard ID.4. What is more important to you?

2021 Volkswagen Tiguan

2021 Volkswagen Tiguan

The refreshed Tiguan comes with new face, new tech, but the same old engine under the hood

The Tiguan is almost 15 years old and it won’t be wrong to say that Volkswagen has been a little slow to update it as per the segment standards. The second generation came out in 2016 and the German automaker milked the design for almost four years before bringing out the facelift. The 2021 Tiguan is the typical mid-cycle refresh one would expect. It comes with slightly revised aesthetics, new tech features, and also some announcements about newer offerings with the product lineup.

This Volkswagen Golf Mk. 2 Puts Every Porsche On The Planet To Shame

A modified 90s hatchback shows Porsches how it’s done

When you think about compact cars with great tuning potential, 8 out of 10 people would probably think of the Honda Civic. However, in Europe, there’s another popular alternative – the Volkswagen Golf. A while back, a video was circulating around the internet where someone in a Nissan 350Z was chasing a Porsche 997 GT3. At the same time, a stock-looking Golf Mk1 came out of nowhere and embarrassed both the Z-car and the 911, without even a sweat.
