We can all agree that 911 is the definitive Porsche model. It’s the car you think about when you hear Porsche. But in times where everyone is heading towards electrification, one has to ask, what the future of the Porsche 911 is. A rendering done by Sandor Boldog gives us a good idea of what might be the future EV equivalent of the Porsche 911.

The Porsche 928 came in 1977 with the intention of succeeding 911. Although that never happened, the 2+2 gran tourer still left a mark and, even today, has a cult following. The recent transition to electrification on behalf of carmakers (Porsche included) suddenly created new opportunities for car companies to bring back iconic names. This is where ex VW designer Guilherme Knop, with help from CGI expert João Schendel, come in. Together, they created a hypothetical modern-day successor to the Porsche 928.

Porsche have been romancing the idea of a four-door performance sedan long before the Panamera came to be. The original idea actually came around 1982. At that point, Porsche had already started moving towards more luxurious models. The 928, for example, was much more of a gran-tourer than a proper sports car – that was the 911’s occupation. Although the 989 never made it to production, its development involved some interesting ideas, as well as thinking “outside the box”, which we are now sharing.

Concept cars are tricky to digest. On one hand, they delight the eyes as they preview a carmaker’s (often spectacular) path for the future and on the other, they most often than not leave us disappointed at their lack of fruition. Most concept cars do not get turned into road-going cars. Sadly, that is the case of the Porsche Renndienst minivan. And the reason is simpler than you would imagine.

The automotive world is one of the biggest communities. It attracts individuals from all backgrounds and some of them become emissaries for the car culture. Khyzyl Saleem, also known as The_Kyza, is one such individual. A concept artist, automotive designer, and a car lover, he has created some of the most epic car renderings you will ever see. Khyzyl is not the only one who’s doing car renderings, but there is something that sets him apart.

We are not saying that here at TopSpeed we have a knack for Porsche or for Khyzyl Saleem. That is easily noticeable from our weekly coverage.

It just so happens that occasionally, we get slapped with a couple of digitally-tweaked images that are so ridiculous that upon closer inspection, they somehow gain awesome status. It’s a must-share situation, really.

The year was 1948 when the first car to wear the Porsche logo left the assembly line in Gmund, Austria. Named the 356, the roadster was fitted with a 1.1-liter air-cooled flat-four engine borrowed from Volkswagen which cranked out about 35 horsepower.

The 356 is the car that paved the way for the 911 and in an interesting plot twist, it’s a 911 chassis that might bring to life the 356, albeit in restomod version.

We don’t know about you, but whenever the words ‘bulletproof’ and ‘car’ are joined together, our minds immediately flash nameplates such as the Range Rover, BMW X5, 7 Series, Mercedes-Benz S-Class, you get the point.

Heck, the business of adding ballistic protection to a given car is so lucrative that there are companies that manage to take the vehicle to the extreme – think of Rezvani and their Wrangler-based Tank.

On that note, we never thought Porsche would go this route. However, it did, for a one-time project that involved a 996-gen 911 Carrera.

Let’s face it: the Taycan is an amazing sports car, nothing short of what we expected from Porsche in the first place. And when I say amazing I say capable of breaking one’s neck during full acceleration from a standstill but also capable of planting itself on the road like it’s on rails.

Then again, what if the Taycan belonged to the supercar species?

The Porsche Taycan is one of the coolest looking four-door coupes out there. It’s sleek, aggressive, and it looks as if Porsche actually wanted to create a four-door supercar. Well, the company’s latest release of previously unseen concept cars confirms that what became the Taycan was first conceived as a four-door supercar. And no, I’m not talking about the Mission E concept. The project is much older than that. Meet the 960 Turismo, the true predecessor of the Taycan.

Porsche recently unveiled several concept cars that it has kept out of sight over the last 15 years. Among them, there’s the Vision Renndienst, an all-electric van that pays tribute to the old vans that Porsche used as support vehicles for its racing program back in the 1950s and 1960s. They were mainly first-generation Volkswagen Microbus vans, usually painted red and labeled "renndienst," which is German for "racing service." The van concept looks surprisingly hot, and given that Porsche already built something similar in the past, maybe it’s time Stuttgart rolls out a production van. Of the high-performance variety, of course.

Porsche just published "Porsche Unseen," a book that showcases design studies and never-before-seen concept cars from 2005 to 2019. The release unveils a few spectacular designs, including the 919 Street, a road-legal version of the incredible 919 Hybrid race car. But apparently the 919 Street wasn’t Porsche only idea for a streetable hypercar. Porsche also envisioned the Vision 920, a Le Mans racer for the road, also described as its "most extreme vision of a super sports car."

Porsche recently unveiled several design studies and concept cars it has created over the past 15 years, and some of them, including the 904 Living Legend, are downright impressive. Created in 2013, the 904 Living Legend is a tribute to the iconic 904 sports car of the 1960s. Design-wise, the 904 Living Legend is a combination between the modern Cayman and the classic 904, but the drivetrain underneath that sleek body is surprising, to say the least.

Be it a futuristic design, a pre-production model, or a technological showcase, the concept car is now a major part of the automotive world. Tens of concept vehicles are being released every year and many of them are downright spectacular. But the concept cars we see are just a fraction of the concept vehicles that are being designed or built behind closed doors. If you need proof, Porsche just published "Porsche Unseen," a book that showcases design studies from 2005 to 2019. Three of them have been released online as well, and they’re as spectacular as they get.

Porsche’s “Porsche Unseen” campaign is the gift that keeps on giving. We’ve already seen two teasers of models that never made it to production, and now, the German automaker has dropped the third teaser of what looks to be a concept that goes against everything we thought Porsche stood for. The teaser doesn’t do much in showing the actual car, but a quick edit of the image’s brightness and exposure reveals a car that Porsche describes as a “futuristic vehicle with an autonomous driving mode.” It’s not exactly a pillar of everything that Porsche stands for, is it? There’s more to the teaser, too, specifically what the image editing reveals about its interior. Of all the teasers that Porsche has released for its Porsche Unseen campaign, this one is undoubtedly the most curious of them all.

Big automakers usually employ tremendously skilled designers, but production cars are rarely as exotic as the concept many of these artists create. There are many reasons for that, and most of them have to do with practicality and costs. Independent designers, on the other hand, aren’t limited by regulations like these, so they often produce more extreme and spectacular digital models. The Project 411 by Mossawi Studios is one of them. A tribute to the iconic Porsche 911 Spyder, it could be a glimpse into the 911’s distant future.

It’s easy to get yourself lost in the sea of digital renders popping up these days on the interwebs. With artists becoming more and more visible, we’re constantly bombarded with wannabe futuristic vehicles, modern twists brought to classic cars, or simply all-new concoctions that are never going to see daylight in real life.

Porsche 911 fans are always given a hard time. Be it because they love a "glorified Beetle" or because "that thing’s been looking the same since the days my grandma was in kindergarten", 911 fans rarely catch a break and it’s all simply because they love a car as anachronic as Stuttgart’s most famous automotive export (sorry Mercedes). But Paul Breshke took it upon himself to change all that and, in doing so, he made the 911 feel novel again. Behold the Porsche Cyber 677 Concept.

Old Porsche 911s turned rally cars are not a novelty. We’ve seen a couple of them over the years and all we can say is that our garages wouldn’t mind one. Actually, Porsche built such contraptions in the early 1970s, after it got out of racing in the WRC, and while there are no such plans for the future, here’s a batch of 993-based 911 ’Safari’ renders that might turn into reality should someone crazy enough see them.

A truck is all that Porsche is missing from its current lineup. Even so, it’s extremely hard to imagine that even in its wildest corporate dreams the carmaker would think of coming to the market with a pickup truck, even in the context where a lot of brands are rushing to jump the e-truck market.
