Performance luxury sedans are the perfect middle ground for those seeking comfort, practicality and performance in a single package. And while we have gotten plenty of great examples like the BMW M5, Mercedes AMG GT63, Porsche Panamera, and others, there are those that came to us as concepts, but never delivered in the real world. Here are the most prominent culprits.

With the pandemic still looming over our heads, 2021 was a pretty action-packed year for the auto industry. Sure, you had challenges, with automakers having to contend with issues like chip shortages, causing delays to consumers. But regardless, the show had to go on and we got some pretty cool cars making their debut, predominantly towards the latter half of 2021.

Let’s get one thing out of the way, 2021 really was also the year, when the market as a whole began to embrace EV’s and you could see several automakers both the legacy as well as EV startups bring several new models to market. Having said that, we did see some pretty cool ICE cars, also make their debut. Now there were several cars that made headlines this year, it was very difficult to pick out the best ones, but the cars on this list definitely stood out. Here’s our list of some of the most highly anticipated and important cars that were unveiled in 2021.

The Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo is the more practical version of Porsche’s first, modern-day EV. More importantly, from 2022, both body styles get a GTS version. The Porsche Taycan GTS is already shaping up to be right in the middle of the Taycan lineup, in terms of price and performance, but it also brings a bit more excitement. Find out how, below.

There is no dearth of electric cars in the market now. We aren’t just talking about the urban commuters, but also fast electric cars. There are many new automakers that start their electric car journey with fast cars or electric supercars. Companies like Estrema, Aspark, and even Tesla, for that matter, came up with fast electric sports cars or electric supercars. While some have faded into oblivion after showing us promising concepts, some have weathered the storm and are either into production or will enter production.

Here’s a list of the eight fastest electric cars in the world today that are in the production stage or about to enter production. Some of these fast cars are from mainstream automakers, some from established EVmakers, and some from new start-ups.

Although Porsche’s most definitive model is the 911, these days it’s the Taycan that often steals the show. Porsche’s first, modern-day EV gave the Tesla Model S a worthy competitor from an established brand and now, the Porsche Taycan is blessed by the GTS moniker. How does it stack up to the rest of the lineup and does GTS still stand for the sweet spot in Porsche’s lineup?

Mat Watson and his team from ’Carwow’ got four cars to the drag strip for an all-German drag race. The contenders included the Audi RS6, the BMW M5 CS, the Mercedes-AMG E63, and the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid. All the cars feature V-8 engines and two turbochargers. The Porsche goes in the races with a slight advantage, thanks to the electric motor assisting the engine and helping it make the most horses here. But, it’s a double-edged sword as the motor and batteries make it the heaviest. Which car do you think will dominate the races?

The Taycan has been Porsche’s best-selling non-SUV so far in 2021, so it was no surprise when Porsche ushered in some pretty decent improvements for the 2020 model year, nor was it a surprise when the brand launched the off-road focused Taycan Cross Turismo. It’s pretty obvious that Porsche is dead set on expanding the Taycan into what could almost be its own standalone brand, with rumors indicating that we could even see a Taycan Coupe, Turismo, or road-focused Sport Turismo wagon. Well, as it turns out, Porsche showed up to the L.A. Auto Show with not one but two new Taycans – the aforementioned Taycan Sport Turismo and the new Taycan GTS. It seems Christmas has come a little early this year, folks.

For years now, we’ve been told to patiently wait for an electrified Porsche 911. Back in 2018, Porsche’s 911 Product Line Director, August Achleitner said that an electrified 911 in any form definitely won’t come soon, with the plan being 2022 at the very earliest. Later on, we found out that Porsche was struggling to electrify the 911 without ruining its iconic nature, and finally, back in 2020 Frank-Steggen Walliser, the man in charge of Porsche’s sports car line, said the 911 would be the last Porsche to go electric. Things clearly haven’t been looking up for an electrified 911 – hybrid or full-on EV. All of that is about to change, though, and the video we have for you today is the proof – it’s a hybrid 911 kicking ass around the Nürburgring.

The fully-electric Porsche Taycan has been stealing the spotlight from the Panamera lately, outselling its similarly-styled sibling by nearly 3 to 1 so far this year. A new Platinum Edition model aims to bring back the Panamera’s shimmer, but is it enough to convince Taycan buyers?

The Macan S sits in the sweet spot of the Macan range. The updated 2.9-liter twin-turbo engine blends with Porsche’s handling wizardry to bring performance and handling so close to that of the Porsche 911 that you won’t believe it. But is it enough if to be relevant in a world where it must compete with cars like the BMW X4, Audi SQ5, and the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio? Let’s dive in.

The Taycan Cross Turismo is a perfect combination of performance and comfort with added luxury from the house of Porsche. Like its sedan brother, the Cross Turismo delivers a spacious cabin, but has an enlarged cargo area and is practical in most cases. While the 2022 model year mainly remains unchanged, there are a few additions which we will talk about in detail in this in-depth review.

When you hear words "Ares Design" the first cars coming to your mind should be the S1 or the Panther ProgettoUno. The company even had a project based on the old Porsche 911 964 announced earlier in 2021. Now, it is focusing its attention on the new generation 911 Targa and has transformed it into the car that it should have been from the start.

It’s always interesting to see how different engine layouts compare to one another. It’s even more interesting when a high-performance SUV goes up against some of the best compact sports cars and a capable hot hatchback. This is exactly the case with this drag race from Carwow, where a Lamborghini Urus is being challenged by a Porsche Cayman GT4, Audi TT RS, and a Volkswagen Golf R.

Porsche has launched the new 2022 Cayenne Turbo GT and it comes with some very impressive specs. It comes with a V-8 engine that puts out 632 horses, making it the most powerful V-8 engine to come out of the Stuttgart’s factory ever.It also set a new lap record at the Nurburgring, thus announcing itself as the top dog in the Cayenne’s lineup. Porsche has also said that the new Cayenne will arrive Stateside in early 2022 only in the Coupe form. As for the price, it is a shade under $200,000.

Updating cars on a year-to-year basis is becoming a new trend, and the Taycan is the latest model to jump on that bandwagon. For 2022, Porsche has improved the Taycan dramatically, with all updates geared toward making day-to-day use easier. It all starts with Normal and Range modes. When these modes are engaged, the front motor is almost completely decoupled and de-energized. And an new computer algorithm allows both motors to disengage when the car is coasting or at a standstill, something that also helps increase usable range.

Beyond this, Porsche has updated the Taycan’s thermal management system with the goal of optimizing the drivetrain. The battery can now be heated to a slightly higher temperature, which allows for fast charting earlier and at a higher charge level – something that reduces the amount of time required to charge. Even better, the excess heat from electrical components is now used to a greater extent to regulate the battery’s temperature.

Alongside these new upgrades, Porsche is now offering the Taycan with Remote Park Assist that will allow you to park it with your smartphone and Android Auto has finally been integrated into the sixth-generation PCM infotainment system. The Taycan can also be ordered through the paint-to-sample and paint-to-sample plus programs, the first one of which includes up to 65 available colors, like the cool red you see here.

Sometimes you see something on the internet and think “why don’t they make it in real life?” This is exactly the case, at least to us, for this Porsche Taycan RWB rendering, which looks like it belongs in the latest “Need for Speed” game. The project is actually done by a digital designer that goes by the name “Shashank Das”. In fact, not long ago, we featured another creation of his – an orange widebody Mazda RX-7, quite similar to what we see here, in terms of modifications.

The Porsche Macan has been on the market since 2014. Following a revamp in 2018, Porsche has reworked the Macan once again to make it ready for life alongside an all-new electric model that will shortly join it. With its second facelift, the combustion engine model is buying more time. The upcoming Electric Macan will be the first vehicle to be constructed on the Audi and Porsche PPE (premium electric platform).

There have been rumors for a while now about Porsche working on a new performance-oriented variant of its Cayenne Coupé. As always, the sense and nonsense of such a vehicle can be argued at length, but the fact that the folks at Zuffenhausen know a thing or two about how to make an SUV fast is no secret, and now we have even more proof.
