The 840-horspower Dodge Challenger SRT Demon stole the show at the 2017 New York Auto Show, but the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk certainly garnered a ton of attention. The highly anticipated an long-rumored Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is everything we hoped for and more, including that 707-horspower 6.2-liter supercharged Hemi V-8, beefed-up TorqFlite eight-speed automatic transmission and reinforced full-time 4WD system. The Jeep even gets the Demon’s Torque Reserve system, helping launch five-passenger SUV to 60 mph in an astonishing 3.5 seconds!

Yeah, the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk isn’t the most practical vehicle debuting at New York this year, but it’s by far the most practical Hellcat ever produced. Sure, the Charger Hellcat is a usable sedan with little draw-backs, but the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk offers 68.3 cubic feet of cargo volume and a respectable 7,200 pounds of towing capacity. Not to mention, this Jeep will likely do well in wintertime conditions with a set of proper tires, especially since its drive modes include a setting for snow.

Jeep engineers didn’t just shoehorn a Hellcat V-8 under the hood of an ordinary Grand Cherokee, however. The Trackhawk is heavily modified, sharing nearly no common powertrain parts with the standard Grand Cherokees. Even the 6.4-liter V-8-powered Grand Cherokee SRT version comes with less whiz-bang engineering.

In case you haven’t noticed, let me be the first to tell you – there’s some really weird things going on in the auto industry these days, especially when it comes to performance machines. Some of the fastest cars on the planet are hybrids (Ferrari LaFerrari, Porsche 918 Spyder and McLaren P1), and the all-electrics aren’t that far behind. But probably the weirdest trend of them all is the performance SUV craze. These are two terms that make for strange bedfellows – “performance,” as in going fast, and “SUV,” as in big and tall and heavy and utilitarian. These things shouldn’t go together, but go together they do thanks to cutting-edge engineering magic. Performance SUVs seem to flaunt their resistance to the laws of physics, and the latest entry in this segment (and perhaps one of the most celebrated) is the vaunted Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, a Hellcat-powered off-roader-turned-dragster that promises tire-shredding power and absurd speed potential in a tall-bodied package. It’s big, dumb, and completely pointless. And I really wanna drive it.

I’ll explain. When I first heard the rumors Jeep was fixing to stuff an SUV with Hellcat power, I was perplexed. I found the idea of a 700-horsepower SUV to be absurd and unnatural. If acceleration and speed is what you’re after, why go to the trouble of making it happen in a body style so out of line with that stated goal?

I still feel that way now, and probably always will. For the price of a Trackhawk, you could easily get two vehicles to fill the dual roles of speed-maker and utility hauler, each of which would do their respective duty better than a single Trackhawk ever could.

But that still doesn’t mean I don’t want to drive this thing.

When Dodge blew the doors off the performance car market with the Dodge Challenger and Charger SRT Hellcat models, fanboys everywhere started begging for the 707-pony powerplant to be introduced into just about every model under FCA’s American brands that were worthy of such royalty. Seriously, it’s kind of ridiculous how badly the masses want Hellcat-powered machines. There were even rumors circulating at one time that there would be a Hellcat-powered Chrysler Pacifica – we even made a speculative review and a rendering just in case. That model just isn’t going to happen, of course, but a Hellcat-powered Grand Cherokee was confirmed back in 2016, and we’ve all be desperately waiting for it to make its first appearance. Now, if Motor Authority is to be believed, a “reliable source” has claimed that the Hellcat-powered Grand Cherokee Trackhawk will make its official debut at the New York Auto Show alongside the Challenger SRT Demon.

For now, official specs and details have been kept a complete secret. Some rumors indicate that the Trackhawk could be tuned to deliver even more power than the Challenger SRT Hellcat, but more than likely, it will get the same 6.2-liter V-8 with 707 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque. The Trackhawk will have an all-wheel-drive setup which could, in theory, make it even quicker off the line than the other Hellcat models on the market right now. Then again, to ease strain on the AWD system, Jeep could very well slim down at least first and second gear to help balance things out for reliability reasons.

As far as actual performance goes, the Trackhawk should be one hell of a monster. Considering the brand-new Dodge Durango SRT and its 475-horsepower, Hemi, V-8 can hit 60 mph in 4.4 seconds and run the quarter-mile in 12 seconds; the Trackhawk should be able to topple that hands down. Expected 60 mph to come in as quickly as four seconds flat and the potential for a quarter mile run to come in the high-ten-second range. Now, that’s one fast SUV right there, don’t you think?

The doors of the 2016 New York Auto Show are open, and there are lots of things to look and talk about. Remember the “Trailhawk” concept that Jeep introduced back at the 2012 Easter Jeep Safari? Well, that concept was so widely accepted, Jeep made it a trim level for the 2014 model year of the Jeep Cherokee. The following year, it was brought back as a trim level for the Jeep Renegade. Now, Jeep is bringing the "Trailhawk" name to the 2017 Grand Cherokee, promising it will be the “most capable factory-produced Grand Cherokee ever.”

Mike Manley, Head of the Jeep Brand for FCA Global, said, “Our Cherokee and Renegade Trailhawk models are among our fastest selling and most sought-after models, and we are following that successful formula to provide consumers even more legendary Jeep 4x4 capability for Grand Cherokee – the most awarded SUV ever.”

The Grand Cherokee Trailhawk will be on display at the New York Auto Show until April 3rd, and, according to Jeep, it’s slated to arrive in Jeep showrooms toward the end of the summer, which means you’ll be able to get your hands on one just in time for some fall off-roading. We know that everyone’s attention is now focused on the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, but right after that the New York Auto Show will open its doors. This is where Chrysler will unveil the successor to the current Liberty. We say the successor because the company still has to decide if the "Liberty" name will be kept or a new name will be adopted.

The new model will be smaller and lighter than the new Grand Cherokee, but it will deliver the same off-road capacities of its big brothers in the Jeep lineup. One of the major updates will include a new independent rear suspension system - as revealed by the prototypes that were caught testing.

Along with the new-generation Liberty, Chrysler will also unveil 47 all-new or significantly refreshed models over the next four years, six of which will come from Alfa Romeo. It is rumored that Jeep will contribute with a new-generation Wagoneer, plus an entry level model set to be produced in Italy.

We know that Jeep has been working on a new smaller SUV for quite some time now, but everyone expected this new model to be the new-generation Liberty built on an Alfa Romeo platform. Instead, rumors point toward Jeep deciding to bring back the ”Cherokee” name, and as you can see from this leaked image, it looks like no other Jeep.

The first thing you will notice is the odd headlight design that combines narrow lights on the top with larger bulbs next to the grille. When viewed from the side, it looks a little bit like the Isuzu Axiom - a car that enjoyed relative success, despite its odd looks. In general, the new Cherokee features a more futuristic look and no doubt is more daring than any other Jeep we have ever seen.

The new Cherokee will be based on the Alfa Giulietta, but with all the modifications needed to transform it into a real off-road model. The model is expected to receive a 3.2-liter V-6 engine, while a 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel engine will be offered for exported models.

The new Cherokee will be unveiled next month at the New York Auto Show.

When we saw the first leaked images of the new Cherokee, we found them rather hard to believe; after all, they were revealing something never seen before on a Jeep model. Those images however were very accurate and the model finally made its world debut today at the 2013 New York Auto Show.

When initially announced, Jeep claimed the new Cherokee will deliver "even more best-in-class capability, exemplary on-road driving dynamics, and fuel economy improvements of more than 45 percent versus the outgoing mid-size SUV model," - aka Jeep Liberty.

The new Cherokee will be built at the company’s assembly plant in Toledo, Ohio and will be put on sale in the third quarter of this year. Customers can choose from the 2014 Jeep Cherokee Sport, Cherokee Latitude, Cherokee Limited and the Trail Rated Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk.

Jeep knows how to strut its stuff when it comes to special editions for their rugged lineup of vehicles. We’ve already seen a number of them primed and ready for the 45th Moab Jeep Easter Safari, but the New York Auto Show is getting its own special models, one of them being the Wrangler Mojave. The Mojave pays tribute to the well-known and rugged Mojave Trail and it will go on sale at a starting price of $29,195, excluding the $750 destination fee.

The new Mojave edition is based on theWrangler Sport and features a unique desert theme inside and out. The exterior features a body-color hardtop and fender flares, "Mojave" and lizard decals on the hood and rear, the Sahara model’s side steps, and a new set of mineral gray 17-inch wheels shod with 32-inch tires. There are three colors to choose from: Sahara Tan, Bright White, and Black combined with a black fuel filler door and taillamp guards.

The interior follows in the desert theme with dark saddle leather and a lizard logo embossed on the front seats. There is also a unique driftwood surrounding the vents, front-passenger grab handle, steering-wheel spokes, and door-handle inserts.

Chrysler introduced two new SRT8 models at the 2011 New York Auto Show, but the one that jumped out at us the most was the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8. Our apologies to the Chrysler 300 SRT8, but we just like the bigger and more rugged look a tad better. The new Jeep comes with performance-oriented styling, world-class ride and handling, benchmark braking, and race-inspired interior.

This monstrous machine is powered by a 6.4-liter HEMI V-8 that delivers an estimated 465 HP and 465 lb.-ft. of torque. Coincidentally, it’s the same engine used in the Chrysler 300 SRT8, but we can fit the kiddies and the dogs in the back.

"The all-new 2012 Grand Cherokee SRT8 is the ultimate performance SUV, delivering a combination of Jeep capability and utility, world-class performance, luxury and refinement, and advanced innovative technology," said Mike Manley, President and CEO — Jeep Brand, Chrysler Group LLC. The look is unmistakably Jeep, but everything else on the 2011 Grand Cherokee is a departure from the old. Outside Jeep ditched the body cladding look of the previous three generations, and has gone for a more unified appearance. It’s a combination of smooth and sharp lines that’s further accented by the reduction of the grille and headlight area. It looks almost like how Toyota would design a Jeep.

Jeep wants to up play the premium SUV elements of the new Grand Cherokee. For starters, Jeep is being very vocal about the new Grand Cherokee sharing a platform with the Mercedes M-Class. Inside the layout has not changed greatly, but the materials quality has been given a big upgrade.

The engine choices have now gone from five to two. The bread ’n butter engine will be the new flex-fuel flexible 3.6-liter V-6 engine that delivers 280 hp and 260 lb.-ft. of torque (353 N•m) @ 4,800 rpm. Second one is a reworked version of the 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine. It now delivers 360 hp and 390 lb.-ft. of torque (up 3 hp and 1 lb.-ft.).

Updated 05/12/2010: Jeep today announced prices for the 2011 Grand Cherokee that will be available in showrooms in June. The SUV will be offered in three trim levels: Laredo priced at $32,995, Limited priced at $39,995 and Overland that is priced at $42,995. The SUV will be offered with: standard Active Head Restraints, full-length side-curtain and seat-mounted side thorax air bags, Electronic Stability Control, Electronic Roll Mitigation, Hill-start Assist, and Trailer-sway Control. A Blind-spot/Rear Cross-path detection system and Adaptive Cruise Control with Forward Collision Warning.

The Mopar ImMortal will also be presented at the 44th annual Moab Easter Jeep Safari in Moab, Utah. The ImMortal is in fact a Wrangler powered by a 5.7-liter HEMI engine and features Military-grade portal axle ends.

The ImMortal also features: Performance body armor, an AEV heat-reduction hood, half-door kit, Viper Snakeskin Green Pearlcoat exterior paint, off-road front and rear bumpers, and hydraulic steering assist.

Jeep Patriot Extreme is the third Moparized vehicle presented by Chrysler today at NY Auto Show. This extreme version gets a e Trail-Rated off-road package, a 2-inch Rocky Road Outfitters suspension lift, TJ ‘Moab’ 16-inch wheels, and BF Goodrich KM2 tires, but also custom rock rails were also added for extra protection.

The second model in Jeep’s "Moparized" vehicles line-up is the Nukizer 715 - an all-purpose truck that pays homage to the Kaiser M-715 truck. Based on a Jeep J8 four-door military vehicle, the Nukizer 715 gets a new front clip produced in carbon fiber, a wheelbase stretched to 124 inches from 116 inches, a unique soft top made by Bestop, and 38-inch BF Goodrich Mud Terrain tires mounted on Hutchinson beadlock wheels. Mopar also used an aftermarket AEV Brute pickup box built for a TJ to convert the vehicle to a pickup body style.

Equipment list includes: a Warn 9.5XP low-profile winch equipped with a Master Pull synthetic winch line, Warn air compressor, Terraflex dual-rate front sway bar, and Garmin GPS Map 640 navigation unit.

The Mopar design team revealed their "Moparized" Jeep and Ram Truck vehicles today at the 2010 New York Auto Show. All of the vehicles will appear at the 44th annual Moab Easter Jeep Safari in Moab, Utah on March 27th - April 4th, 2010.

The first on the list is the Jeep Wrangler J7, a custom car built off of a Wrangler Rubicon, but stripped of its carpet, fog lamps, alloy wheels and stereo system. Mopar cranked up this military-style vehicle with new front and rear steel bumpers, ‘helicopter hooks’, a heavy-duty tailgate and steel wheels.

In addition to the accessory changes listed above, the car also received a Mopar 2-inch suspension lift, 35-inch Mickey Thompson tires, and a unique Mustard Plug exterior paint.

Not afraid to get dirty, Jeep(R) today revealed the all-new 2007 Wrangler Unlimited from underneath six tons of mud.
Outside of the Javits Center, the beginning of the Jeep press conference featured only a simple mound of mud on stage, but quickly became one of the dirtiest vehicle reveals in New York International Auto Show history.
