Dodge Viper GTC: Is It Worth The Price?
The Dodge Viper is one of the most distinctive sports cars ever made. It started in the 1990s, with the idea of recapturing the spirit of the 1960s Shelby Cobra and Carroll Shelby, himself, was attached to the Viper’s development. Sadly, the last Viper rolled off the production line in August 2017, and it doesn’t look like there’s going to be a new one. And while prices have remained steady, one question remains: is it worth it? YouTube channel Raiti’s Rides gives a good answer.
The SRT Viper is sliding into 2014 on a plume of tire smoke and V-10 rumble: sure of victory over the new Corvette in its launch specification.
The new Viper suffered a serious black eye when it ranked behind the outgoing Corvette ZR1 in a few big comparison tests, so the SRT crew has been busy refining the model with a new Bilstein DampTronic adjustable suspension, a ‘Rain’ mode on the stability and traction control, and matte-black paint on the new-for-2014 Anodized Carbon Edition.
SRT is fresh off a class victory at Road America with the racing GTS-R version of the latest Viper, but is this V-10-powered brute still in touch with sports car buyers in the age of the Nissan GT-R?
The most impressive is the yet-to-be-seen 2014 Viper Anodized Carbon Edition, which packs all the interior and exterior carbon options from the 2013 Time Attack model, but brings Chrysler’s first-ever matte-black paint job.
The T/A model shares its handling refinements with the base and GTS Vipers for 2014 via a track pack that also cuts the big supercar’s curb weight by 57 pounds.
How does the new Viper compare to its rivals like the all-new Corvette Stingray that barely costs half as much as the SRT? In the $100,000 super-coupe segment, is the Viper’s newly-gentrified cockpit enough to lure in Porsche 911 Turbo buyers?

Everyone expects that once the all-new SRT Viper arrives on the market that more powerful versions will follow. SRT CEO, Ralph Gilles, already hinted that a Viper ACR version could arrive in the near future, but this announcement is not a huge surprise.
Unfortunately, we have no idea on what the ACR variant will bring to the already powerful SRT Viper, but we can take a few pointers from the previous ACR model. It’s assumed that SRT will offer a more aggressive exterior look, bigger brakes, adjustable dampers and a set of low-weight wheels with ultra-high-performance tires.
The most impressive update will be made under the hood. The engine will remain the same 8.4-liter all-aluminum V-10 engine found in the base SRT Viper, but tricked to deliver much more than the standard Viper. Considering that the previous Viper ACR offered an extra 100 horsepower over the standard version, you shouldn’t be too surprised to see the ACR model with output close to 750 horsepower.
The previous-generation Dodge Viper ACR impressed us with great results like a Nurburgring lap time of 7:12, so we expect the same from the upcoming SRT Viper ACR. We are pretty sure SRT engineers will not disappoint us.
Expect the new SRT Viper ACR to arrive sometime in 2014.

When SRT unveiled the 2013 Viper back in September 2012, the company announced that the new supercar be delivered to dealerships by the end of December. However, as you can see it is already the end of January 2013 and the new Viper still hasn’t arrived to dealerships. In fact, it has been confirmed that the first Vipers won’t reach dealers until mid-February.
In a recent interview with The Detroit Free Press, Ralph Gilles — president and CEO of the SRT brand — officially apologized to the company dealers and announced: "we are just holding ourselves to a higher standard."
He also confirmed that each dealer has received a letter that explains that a "hand-made car takes a little finesse to get everything perfect." This desire for perfection is the apparent reason for the delay – don’t know if we’re buying it, but okay…
Gilles also confirmed that SRT plans to build a total of 1,600 Vipers in 2013 and 800 of those units have already been spoken for.
