Ducati Gets Serious About Off-Road And It’s About Time
Could Triumph’s New Enduro and MX Bikes Look Like This?
2021 Husqvarna 701 Enduro
Swedish giant Husqvarna rolls into MY2021 with boosted performance, new electronics, and a spanky new Euro-5 emissions compliance rating on the 701 Enduro. The factory also gave it a bit of a facelift with a new headlight housing, new instrumentation, and tuned up bodywork that benefits from Husqvarna’s extensive off-road racing experience. New brake hardware and switchable ABS rounds out the safety package.
2021 KTM 450 Rally Factory Replica
The KTM 450 Rally is a legend in its long lifetime, taking 18 consecutive victories in the Dakar Rally up to 2019. Now, KTM has released a limited-production version for sale to the public, with development carried out in-race by the team’s riders. It’s the ultimate Enduro bike but you have to have deep pockets and even deeper talent to do it justice. Only 85 available worldwide.
2019 - 2020 KTM 690 Enduro R
The KTM 690 Enduro R joins its streetwise sibling, the 690 SMC R, to finish covering all the bases for street and dirt. As its diabolically clever name suggests, the “Enduro” is set up to be street legal so you can drive it down to your favorite off-road locale and skip the trailer and tow vehicle. Far from being just another dual-sport, the Enduro rocks the same top-shelf electronic rider aids as the SMC R to give it a safety and stability far beyond the norm for an off-road machine. The factory also chucked a new frame and top-shelf, WP XPLOR suspension at it to sweeten the deal.
2020 Cake Kalk INK
Blurring the lines between mountain bikes and motorcycles, the Kalk series of machines from the Swiss made “Cake” intends “to speed up the journey towards a zero-emission society while enhancing excitement and fun.” They are walking the path that will change the future of riding with the focus on off-road performance and innovation in terms of weight and simplicity of riding.
Their newest entry is the Kalk INK. It takes on the KALK OR with the same powerful drivetrain with slightly heavier and stable wheels and a simplified and sturdier suspension derived from motocross machines. This is a black rendition of the KALK OR as a casual offroader for a thrilling backcountry exploration.
CAKE introduces a new KALK sibling - the INK
The brainchild of a Swedish Stefan Ytterborn, “Cake” is a new player in the electric transportation business that intends “to speed up the journey towards a zero-emission society while enhancing excitement and fun.” Jumping into the category of light electric off-road motorbikes, the Kalk is the first one of a number of models to come and is walking the path that will change the future of riding. The focus here has been off-road performance and innovation in terms of weight and simplicity of riding on the Cake.

Which motorcycles on sale today give the best mpg?
The beginning of this century saw the world views changing gradually towards climate change and the need to preserve the environment. This, along with stringent policies, has forced the manufacturers to develop motorcycles that can run cleaner fuel and extract the maximum economy from it, sometimes even at the cost of performance.
Bad news for people who seek the element of thrill, but a pretty good one for someone living in urban jungles where folks prefer commuting on a motorcycle rather thank a car for its practicality and frugal fuel-efficiency. Then there are us few who love the idea of putting serious miles on two-wheels and living the adventure.
We here have compiled a list to give you the best available tools for such situations and save some money on gas while at it.
2019 Zero Motorcycles FX
Range and performance are hot-button topics in the electric bike sector, to be sure, but so is variety, and Zero Motorcycles looks to address that last point with its newly improved, enduro-tastic FX model. Zero combines its powerful drive system with a terrain-loving chassis that lets you take your EV adventures just about anywhere you want. This is no soccer-mom’s SUV either. It brings genuine capability to the table with enough torque to gobble up hills for breakfast, be they paved or not. If that sounds like a lot, I assure you the FX can back up all my talk, so let’s dig into the details on this exciting genre-expanding ride to see what the future looks like, because this is it.
2018 Alta Motors Redshift MXR
The Brisbane, California based Alta Motors designs and manufactured the most advanced electric motorcycles in the industry. Starting in 2010, the firm has come a long way in establishing itself building bikes that prove to be better off-roaders than the petrol-powered counterparts. Until now, their motorcycle line-up included a Supermoto (SM), an Enduro (EX) and a Motocross (MX) electric off-road bikes.
Now, the makers are stepping up their game and have launched a brand new motorcycle called the Redshift MXR. All their current bikes badly needed an upgrade from their 250cc equivalent electric motors that only did 42 horsepower and 120 foot-pounds of torque. Luckily, the chaps at Alta have done just that.
The 2018 Redshift MXR Motocross model ups the ante in all departments and adds a significant change with its electronics package and battery-motor combo. It boasts of more power, less weight, better recharge times, and better heat management to keep the competition in check.

What if these car companies made motorcycles?
I know what you are thinking. Companies like Honda, BMW, Suzuki, and Peugeot are already making both cars and motorcycles. They have successfully managed both the shows and show no signs of aging or trouble to either one because of the other. Yamaha is also trying to get a piece of the four-wheeled world with ‘The Sports Ride’ concept.
But what if exotic car makers like McLaren, Mustang, Porsche, and Rolls-Royce made motorcycles? It would be awesome, of course, but how would they look like? Well, we might have an answer to that. Thanks to the chaps at Jennings Harley-Davidson, a dealership with shops in both Leeds and Gateshead in the UK.
They’ve designed six absolutely bonkers motorcycle concepts that distill visual cues and character of what the company actually makes.
KTM is testing new 690 Enduro and Supermoto
Introduction of new emission norms last year forced all manufacturers to shelve a few models since they were unviable to have a ramped up production to suit new rules. The Austrian manufacturer, KTM, too had to undergo this process and amongst the many models taken down were the 690 Enduro (title image) and 690 Supermoto.
Luckily, however, it seems like KTM just couldn’t completely let go of these babies and is currently undergoing a full testing phase of their brand new iterations that will conform to new laws. Our friends at MCN managed to snap a few pictures of the Enduro and the Supermoto doing a full production model tests.
2018 is here. And these top dogs are heading our way
Aspirin taken, ate some food, drank that much-needed water and took a hot shower. Hangover time is over and getting my head around the fact that I have to wake up early to work depressed me at first. But luckily the excitement brought with the launch of these new machines means we and I get to see them on our roads pretty soon, and I cannot wait to unveil the secrets they behold.
Unveiled at the back end of 2017, these hot machines give new life goals and expectations, not just for riders, but also to other manufacturers giving them no option but to up their game as well. Thanks to this, competition keeps getting hotter by the day, and we are ultimately rewarded with machines that beam innovation and technology.
