Ford Mustang GT Gen3 Supercar Looks Ready To Take On The 2023 Repco Supercars Championship
The car will make its racing debut during the 2023 Repco Supercars Championship season
by Alina Moore, onEver since the fifth-generation Ford Mustang was launched back in 2015, the muscle car proved itself of being quite a successful race car. During its six-year lifetime, the current Mustang won many racing series, putting the Chevrolet Camaro in second place.
Ford announced the next-generation Mustang GT Gen3 Supercar at Mount Panorama, right before the 2021 Bathurst 1000. Both the Mustang Supercar and the Camaro did a series of display laps during the race before getting ready for an intense testing session throughout 2022.
The new generation Ford Mustang Supercar was built to meet the new Gen3 technical regulations, that will "increase relevance to road going product, reduce costs for teams and increase on-track entertainment through reduction of aerodynamic aids to allow for closer racing."
The Mustang GT Gen3 Supercar is wearing the iconic Ford Performance Racing livery and has a very mean look. It features a widened track, flared fenders, and a huge rear wing.
Under the hood, Ford placed a production-based 5.4-liter 'Coyote' V-8 engine, but the final specifications have yet to be revealed.
After its 2022 testing season, the new Mustang GT Gen3 Supercar will make its racing debut at the first round of the 2023 Repco Supercars Championship season.
“As Supercars enters a new era – with new ownership and the incoming Gen3 technical regulations, Ford is demonstrating its continuing commitment to Australia,” said Andrew Birkic, President and CEO, Ford Australia.
“It has been a huge couple of weeks for Ford Australia, with the reveal of the Australian designed and engineered Next-Generation Ranger last week and now this spectacular next-generation Mustang Supercar. We want to make the sport better for the fans, with more relevant cars, and more entertaining racing. Gen3 looks absolutely incredible, sounds even better and I’m sure I’m not alone in saying how much I am looking forward to seeing it on-track this weekend."
