F1 Champ Max Verstappen’s Honda Civic Type R Is Up For Sale
This is your chance to own one of Max’s personal vehicles, assuming that you live in Europe
by Isaac Atienza, on LISTEN 02:33The 2021 season of Formula 1 recently concluded with a new champion. Max Verstappen of Red Bull Racing Honda effectively ended the streak of Mercedes-AMG Petronas’ Lewis Hamilton, albeit in a controversial fashion. But that’s a story for another day. What we have here is a chance for you to own his Honda Civic Type R.
Having Honda as your team’s engine supplier gives Max the indulgence to own a 2018 model year Honda Civic Type R as his work car. Sure, it’s no Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series that Valtteri Bottas received a little earlier this year, but the Civic Type R is one of the best front-wheel drive (FWD) hot hatches money can buy.
Weirdly enough, the listing at CarNext.com—one of Max’s major sponsors—states that the Civic Type R is rear-wheel drive (RWD). The listing also says that it produces 272 kW (364 hp), which is way above what a stock front-wheel drive (FWD) Civic Type R produces. Could it be possible that his Civic Type R is actually RWD? Probably not, since major re-engineering will be needed in order to achieve that.
What’s most likely true is its upgraded power figures. The YouTube video description says that Max’s Civic Type R is customized. For perspective, a stock Civic Type R produces 306 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque to the front wheels via a six-speed manual.
Max’s Honda Civic Type R will officially be open for sale on December 17 for €33,000 (around $37,252). And while CarNext is primarily a buy-and-sell website for used cars, it also sells cars via auctions. Considering Max recently became the World Driver’s Champion, expect that price tag to easily skyrocket.
Proceeds from the sale will be donated to Wings for Life—a non-profit foundation established by the two-time motocross world champion Heinz Kinigadner and Red Bull founder Dietrich Mateschitz in 2004—which aims to find a cure for spinal cord injuries and paraplegia.
If you’re a Max Verstappen fan and you live in Europe, this is your chance to get your hands on his customized Civic Type R. More details will be revealed on December 17.
