Elon Musk’s golden run this year ends with Time Magazine’s Person of the Year award
by Sidd Dhimaan, on LISTEN 03:08Whether you like him or hate him, there’s no ignoring him. And, if you thought you wouldn’t see more of him this year, well, we’ve got some news. Elon Musk has been named the ’Time Person of the Year’, and it doesn’t come as a surprise. The man has created news and controversies many times this year and is definitely one of the most influential people of 2021. Can you think of anyone else who deserved the honor instead?
Elon Musk – The 2021 Time Person Of The Year
Elon Musk is all over the internet either for his off-beat humor that falls flat more often than not, his issues with the federal agencies, or his tweets that literally regulate the crypto market - even though he denies it! But, there’s no denying that this man knows how to run his businesses. He’s been on a roll this year and even became the richest person in the world, with his net worth crossing $300 billion at one point! At the time of writing this article, his net worth stands at $251.9 billion. He’s followed by Jeff Bezos, who’s placed at a distant second with a net worth of $195 billion.
But, it’s not just about the money. Elon Musk wants a greener, cleaner transportation system. Is it so he can offset the carbon footprint with his space launches? Well, as he stated, it’s “Mars and “Cars” for him. This year, Tesla became one of the handful of companies to have a valuation of over $1 trillion. It’s not just Tesla; his other company, SpaceX, is also following the same path. It’s valued at $100 billion for now, but a Morgan Stanley survey has reported it is expected to be more valuable than Tesla.
This is how the Time Magazine introduced him:
This is the man who aspires to save our planet and get us a new one to inhabit: clown, genius, edgelord, visionary, industrialist, showman, cad; a madcap hybrid of Thomas Edison, P.T. Barnum, Andrew Carnegie and Watchmen’s Doctor Manhattan, the brooding, blue-skinned man-god who invents electric cars and moves to Mars.
The magazine’s Editor-in-chief and CEO, Edward Felsenthal, also heaped praises on this year’s person of the year. He said,
"Person of the Year is a marker of influence, and few individuals have had more influence than Musk on life on Earth, and potentially life off Earth, too. In 2021, Musk emerged not just as the world’s richest person but also as perhaps the richest example of a massive shift in our society."
Conclusion
I’m sure there are a lot of people who are not exactly happy with Musk getting this recognition. But, there will also be a bunch of loyal Musk fanboys that are the happiest right now. Elon took his son X Æ A-12 to the coronation. What could’ve been a potential booing incident (well, metaphorically at the prestigious event), turned out to be an adorable moment. Did he play with our minds again? Who knows!
